YOUDA BEST
Sweethearts, the beloved, heart-shaped candy brand best associated with Valentine’s Day is back for a second year as the theme for this year’s Idaho Lottery Scratch Game. For more than a century, the iconic Sweethearts brand and its conversational candies have been adored by generations with its original sayings centering around love and caring which are refreshed each year. The Idaho Lottery was the first Lottery in the world to feature these fun Sweethearts Valentine treats on a Scratch Game last year, and like the candies themselves, the game proved so popular it is making a return. “Almost everyone grew up with Sweethearts on Valentine’s Day,” said Jeff Anderson, Idaho Lottery Director. “The nostalgia of this classic candy has become a natural choice as the backdrop for our Valentine’s Scratch Game. And winning up to $50,000 gives great new meaning to the phrase, “Youda Best.” This $5 Scratch Game comes with 9 different scenes that include a classic list of the romantic phrases found on the delectable heart-shaped treats, like “My Hero”, “Sugar Pie”, “Pick Me”, and “Bear Hug.” Sweethearts the Scratch Game went on sale in Idaho on December 28, 2023 and carries two sweet top prizes of $50,000.

MY HERO
ea Nominat ero School H
Teachers, administrators, counselors, even lunch ladies make a difference every day for Idaho’s students. During January and early February, the Idaho Lottery will recognize 35 “School Heroes” with a Sweethearts prize package. Heroes will be chosen from nominations submitted to the Lottery and are not limited to teachers. Heroes could be any employee of a public school, aged 18 or older (Ex: Teachers, Aids, Librarians, Counselors, Janitors, etc.). To be selected, the nominator will complete a short form on who their hero is and what they mean to them. Nominations will be accepted from January 1st through January 31st, with deliveries made up until Valentine’s Day. The selected “Heroes” will be recognized during a surprise ceremony at their school. Tell your players to visit this site to nominate their “School Hero.” https://www.idaholottery.com/giving-back/ nominate-your-school-hero

IDAHO FINALIST! Times Square on New Year’s Eve isn’t just the place to kiss for good luck and watch the ball drop at midnight. This year, for one lucky Idaho Lottery Powerball player, it could be the place where she wins $1,000,000! Lora-Lee Casady from Boise went to New York City for New Year’s Eve as one of five nationwide finalists announced by Powerball to participate in a LIVE televised event just after midnight during the broadcast of “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2024” to become the Powerball First Millionaire of the Year!
LORA-LEE CASADY WON A VIP NEW YORK TRIP AND CHANCE TO BE MILLIONAIRE!
“It was so exciting!” said Casady when she was informed that she was one of the national finalists. “I’ve only ever been to New York City once before, for work, a long time ago. Of course, I’d love to win Continue to Page 2

Director’s Corner
Dear Friends,
As we start a new year, there is much to be grateful for during 2023, including you, our valued retail partners. The Idaho Lottery delivered the largest dividend in history. Our highly successful Do Good programs delivered more than $342,000 in needed resources, supplies, and books directly to school librarians, classroom teachers, and students. Lottery players remain engaged with our fun and entertaining games, and they continue to visit your stores on a regular basis. We’ve seen three billion-dollar jackpots between Powerball and Mega Millions in the past year. One thing we all can count on is big jackpots drive player interest and ticket sales. With my guarantee of two million-dollar winning tickets being sold in Idaho, the early sell-out of the Idaho $1,000,000 Raffle this year was no surprise. Idahoans love this game as well as holiday-themed Scratch Games for stocking stuffers. We remain optimistic we can achieve our sales and dividend forecast for FY2024. This is a good time to reflect on our shared accomplishments and welcome the opportunities ahead. As you will learn in the months ahead, 2024 marks the Idaho Lottery’s 35th Anniversary on July 19, 2024. The year will bring special games and fun celebrations for our players and your business. I wish you all success and good fortune for the coming year. Happy New Year! Cheers,
the million dollars, but I’ve always loved New York. I was just happy to go back and be a part of the vibe of the city.” Casady was one of 69,846 Idaho entrants who participated in the nationwide contest. She joins one winner from Georgia, New York, North Carolina, and Rhode Island as one of the five national finalists in New York City. One of these lucky winners will win $1,000,000 on New Year’s Day just after midnight, Eastern Time. As part of her winning package, Casady received a VIP Trip to New York City for two, hotel accommodations, airfare, meals, tickets to see the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular, and attended a VIP Experience at Times Square for New Year’s Eve.
$3,000 O’CHRISTMAS SPREE WINNER
Modest and understated, Jessica Glassinger was at Fred Meyer on Blue Lakes in Twin Falls before Thanksgiving and bought an Idaho Lottery O’ Christmas Spree Scratch ticket. Her holiday luck was about to change. “The ticket said ‘SPREE’ on it. I had no idea what that meant. The store told me to call the Lottery to find out,” explained Jessica on her experience. “That’s when I found out I’d won the shopping spree!” Jessica had just become the second, O’ Christmas Spree winner on the popular holiday game and would receive her chance to win at least $1,000 and up to $5,000. Two weeks later, Jessica was back at the same Fred Meyer on Blue Lakes for the LIVE O’ Christmas Spree shopping event in front of a nice display of poinsettia plants. “I wasn’t nervous or excited until I got here,” said Jessica as the game began. The winner plays a “Deal or No Deal” style of game where she selected one of five boxes, each with a different prize amount hidden underneath, as her ‘TO ME’ box. Jessica selected box #3, which ultimately won her $3,000. Jessica plans to buy groceries, fuel, and maybe some clothes with her new winnings. After she won and before leaving Fred Meyer, she purchased bags of dog food and cat food to donate to the Twin Falls area Humane Society during the holidays.
The Idaho Lottery has partnered with Kroger-owned Fred Meyer stores to offer this once in a lifetime shopping spree experience. Jessica’s win was the second. There are three Shopping Spree prizes and both top prizes of $50,000 remaining in the game.

DELIVERIES WEISER - MARI CLUFF
Working with students who are neurodivergent or who have physical limitations is challenging. Mari Cluff is a 15-year veteran teacher at Weiser Elementary, working with special education students who are between 9 and 11 years in physical ages, but anywhere from preschool through 3rd grade in their cognitive abilities. Sometimes, the school setting can be its own challenge. Weiser Elementary sits on a large hill, which makes classroom field trips around the grounds difficult for some. To accommodate those with physical limitations, Mari asked for and received a wagon to pull those students along for the walks. “I have a couple of students with physical limitations. That can make getting them down the very large hill our school is housed on and to community/school events when bussing is not available very tricky,” said Mari. “This past month, I had to get special permission to drive my two limited kiddos to our homecoming parade, but they missed out on the camaraderie of walking with their peers. They are small in stature and having a wagon that I can push/pull them in will allow them to participate in all our walking field trips with their classes.”

In New Meadows, pre-school teacher Katie Wright asked for a Zoo Phonics program to lay a solid footing for future student success. “I teach 3 and 4-year-olds in a small school district that provides preschool to the community,” said Kaite. “This Zoo Phonics program will help my students to learn their letters and letter sounds. This will be a starting foundation for my students. It will help prepare them for kindergarten and beginning to read.
PARIS ELEMENTARY PENNY BASSETT
Most people do not know there is a Paris, Idaho. While it does not resemble its French namesake, it does sit close to Bear Lake near the conjunction of Idaho, Wyoming, and Utah in the southeast corner of the state. In mid-November, Paris Elementary received six new, flower shaped tables in Penny Bassett’s classroom, compliments of the Idaho Lottery and Classroom Wishlist. “My classroom is a split grade classroom with 27 students,” described Penny. “In order to be more effective in our learning we do a lot of groups and centers. Having tables to work at are much easier and more conducive to group activities.”

GRATEFUL BIG SPIN WINNER
CLAIRRENE WINS $80,000 ON THE BIG SPIN WHEEL!
Listening to Clairrene Heywood, she has led a very blessed life. Maybe it is the country air she enjoys every day living in Weippe, a small ranching town on a high plain about 20 miles from Orofino. The small-town life suits her and her family. Clairrene buys her tickets from stores in Pierce and Orofino. She enjoys playing and found being a Big Spin winner to be a wonderful adventure for her and her family. “I’m grateful for whatever I win today,” said the retired rancher a week before her spin. “Whether it’s $60,000 or more, I’ll be happy. I have a wonderful family and community.” A week before Thanksgiving, Clairrene, her daughter Lori, son-in-law Mike, and granddaughter Chelsea made the long journey to Boise to participate in the latest Big Spin LIVE event at the Boise Towne Square. Wearing a shirt that read “Grateful”, Clairrene spun her way to becoming the biggest winner from Weippe, claiming a prize worth $80,000. Her win and easy demeanor seemed fitting with the season. She plans to pay off her car with her winnings. Her winning ticket was sold at Orofino Marketplace. For selling the winning ticket, Orofino Marketplace receives a bonus for $8,000. This was the fourth of the six top prizes in the 3rd edition of the Big Spin. There are two top prizes remaining for players to win during the upcoming holiday season.
