30 th ANNIVERSARY Year

2022 kicks off the 30th year for Idaho’s Favorite Game, Powerball.

The Idaho Lottery is a founding member of the Powerball game. Thirteen other states and the District of Columbia joined Idaho in 1992 to create what has become the biggest game in the world.

No other single game has brought as much excitement or made as many millionaires as Powerball has for Idaho since the first ticket was sold.

Powerball’s official birthday is April 19, 1992. Watch for lots of fun and celebration throughout the year. To date, Powerball sales have contributed $356.3 million to Idaho Public Schools and Buildings.

Happy New Year!

The coming of the New Year is always a time to reflect on our shared accomplishments of the year that’s ended and embrace the possibilities of the year ahead. We had much to celebrate during the holiday season including the conclusion of a very successful calendar year which saw us return the largest dividend in Lottery history, eclipse $1 billion in dividend returns, and offer our highly successful Do Good programs that delivered $250,000 in needed resources, supplies, and books to teachers and their classrooms.

Idaho Lottery sales remain consistently strong and ahead of last year’s record setting pace. Year in and year out, players turn to our lineup of fun and unique gifts for family, friends, and co-workers. Our holiday line-up of games performed very well, especially considering the Idaho $1,000,000 Raffle sold out prior to Thanksgiving. Last minute shoppers and gift-givers turned to this year’s holiday-themed tickets for stocking stuffers.

Idaho’s Favorite Game, Powerball, is up 43% compared to FY2021-to-date. At press time, the jackpot keeps growing and, in turn, bringing players to your stores.

As you may recall, we were unsuccessful during last legislative session in getting statutory changes that allows us to continue to offer Powerball in Idaho. So you’re aware, we will be re-introducing legislation in 2022 as the game celebrates its 30th anniversary.

The Idaho Lottery was an original founding member of the game 30 years ago when the first Powerball ticket was sold on April 19, 1992.

We remain confident in our ability to reach our projected dividend at the end of the fiscal year.

afternoon in early December, one Boise family was quite literally “over the moon” excited their patriarch happened into the Albertsons on Eagle Road in west Boise and purchased a single Sapphire 7s Idaho Lottery Scratch ticket.

“My wife called me and said we needed some cat food from the store,” recalled Jerald Moon. “I picked that up and then bought a single Sapphire 7s Scratch ticket. I was lucky to be at the right place at the right time.”

Moon’s Sapphire 7s Scratch ticket turned out to the be game’s first top prize winner of $200,000. Having just sold his business practice, Moon decided not to keep the money for himself and in the spirit of the holiday season, split the winnings among his family, including three college aged children, his

mother-in-law, and his wife.

“This way I won’t have to pay their college tuition bills for a while,” he said with a smile.

The excited group brought their holiday joyousness to the Lottery offices and made the event a big family celebration.

The younger members of the Moon family said they were planning to use their winnings to support their college educations. Moon’s wife and mother-in-law were too happy celebrating to elaborate on their plans other than Christmas was only a couple of weeks of away. The winners included Susan, Paige, Emily, and Jared Moon, plus Pearl Torrey.

For selling the winning ticket, Albertsons receives a bonus of $20,000.

IDAHO CASH’S RUN OF WINNERS Good fortune often finds its recipients in the most unlikely of places and usually at the best of times. Rick Nelson of Boise had that experience shortly before Christmas. A long time Lottery player, Nelson had only recently begun playing the popular Idaho Cash draw game. A week after he began, he won a jackpot of $69,500 from a ticket he purchased at the Jacksons Extra Mile #95 store in Garden City.

“My friend told me about the game and I started playing it last week. I really needed this. This is indeed a blessing for the holidays,” said Rick when he claimed his winning at the Idaho Lottery Offices. He plans to pay down medical expenses and enjoy the holidays.

Rick, though, was not the only Nelson to win an Idaho Cash jackpot in the past two months. Jay Nelson (no relation) from Silverton, Idaho won $83,300 in the middle of October from a ticket sold at Stein’s Market in Osburn. And just months before Jay won, Vicki Dodgson from Nampa won $168,900 on Idaho Cash from a ticket she purchased at Walmart in Nampa.

The run didn’t end, though, with Rick. Five days after he won, another winning ticket (the fourth since August) was sold to a player in Benewah County worth $23,300. That ticket remained unclaimed at press time.

Let your players know that Idaho Cash is having a run of big winners! This Idaho exclusive game gives players two chances at the jackpot for $1.

Jackpots start at $20,000 and grows until it is won. The all-time record for Idaho Cash has players match is $311,000 from a ticket won in Lewiston in March 2021.

SHARE LOTTERY LOVE Luck, like love, is often just around the corner.

Valentine’s Day is also just around the corner and this year, nothing says love more than to have your players share Idaho Lottery luck with the ones they love.

This Valentine’s Day, the Idaho Lottery wants to remind your players of what it was like to fall in love, receiving candy hearts with romantic sayings, or a bouquet of flowers from a secret admirer. Only this version of Lottery Love comes with three games that have top prizes ranging from $500 to $50,000!

During January and February, your players will be doing a little cash crushin’ over the InstaPlay game Bee Mine, where they could win up to $500. Expressing one’s love was never as fond as asking your

sweetheart if they could Be My Huckleberry, especially if it comes with a top prize of $10,000. And then, the game that is all about romance, the sweetest game of all, Big Bingo Bouquet, where true love could bring your players an extra $50,000.

Let your players know about these, and other games this winter and share a little Lottery Love with them. Who knows, one of your players could be Idaho’s next big winner – in luck or in love!

SILVER BELLS STOCKING STUFFER It is a long, well-established fact that Idaho Lottery Scratch tickets make great stocking stuffers during the holidays. We say so every year. The truth behind this comes from stories like the one from Sydney Madsen who won $50,000 this year, on Christmas morning, from the Silver Bells scratch game that was a stocking stuffer.

Sydney was visiting her family for the holidays near Idaho Falls. By tradition, her mother buys scratch tickets and gives them out as stocking stuffers to Sydney and her siblings. As Sydney told us, she and her siblings toss bean bags into a bucket to see who can select the stocking stuffer scratch tickets first. Well, Sydney missed on her first attempt and had to wait a turn. She connected on her second try and selected the Silver Bells scratch ticket.

“I didn’t really believe it at first. No one really did. But there it was, $50,000,” explained Sydney. “And none of my siblings are upset over it or anything. They were very supportive. It was all good.”

Sydney says she plans to use her winnings to buy real estate closer to her family.

The winning ticket was sold by Hitt the Road in Ammon. For selling the winning ticket, Hitt the Road gets a very merry $5,000 from the Idaho Lottery.
