REMAINING IN IDAHO! On March 17, 2022, Governor Brad Little signed legislation that will keep Powerball available for sale at Idaho Lottery retail locations in the Gem State. As you may recall, last year an Idaho Legislative Committee tabled a similar piece of legislation that would have allowed Powerball to remain in the Gem State in the event sales for Idaho’s favorite game became international. One year and one day removed from that vote in 2021, the Idaho Senate passed new legislation that will keep Powerball in all retail locations for years to come. The Idaho House of Representatives previously passed the same measure. “For many of our players, Powerball and the Lottery are synonymous terms,” said Jeff Anderson, Idaho Lottery Director. “Keeping Powerball in Idaho means nearly $12 million in retail commissions over the next ten years as well as nearly $200 million in dividends for our good causes, public schools and the permanent buildings of Idaho.” Idaho Lottery has sold Powerball for 30 years.

POWERBALL CELEBRATES 30TH ANNIVERSARY! Idaho’s favorite game is celebrating it’s 30th Anniversary on April 19! Thirty years ago, the Idaho Lottery, along with 13 other state lotteries and the District of Columbia collaborated to create Powerball – a game that would create big jackpots, player excitement, and tremendous benefits for each jurisdiction.
Over the years, Idaho has had five Powerball jackpot winners and another 73 players who’ve won over $200,000 playing the most popular game in the Gem State. To commemorate the day, the Idaho Lottery will provide a statewide offer. Every 30th Powerball ticket sold in Idaho will receive a FREE Powerball ticket. If you sell one, you might see another one print immediately after, and the photon will make a sound for a winning ticket. This is the free ticket! Please be sure to provide this to the player with their purchase. Break out the balloons, the party hats, the streamers and excitement for Powerball’s 30th Anniversary on April 19, 2022!

Last month, I reported that we (you and the Lottery) were successful in advancing H607 in the House State Affairs Committee to the full Idaho House of Representatives where it passed by a comfortable margin. This legislative accomplishment was possible due to the support of the Idaho Lottery Commission, Lottery staff, our business partners and their advocates, our beneficiaries, and legislators. Particular thanks go to Matt Berry of Berry Oil and current WPMA/CSA President, Charlie Jones of Stinker Stores, and Misty Swanson of the Idaho School Boards Association for their in-person testimony in committee hearing. Their words were powerful and effective. Credit also to the WPMA/CSA, Jackson Food Stores, Jackson Energy, Maverik – Adventure’s First Stop, the Idaho Retailers Association, the Northwest Grocers Association, and Intralot. There was a tremendous amount of work done in the past year on this and it would not have been successful without everyone’s assistance. I also highlight Idaho legislators whose leadership supported our efforts to save Powerball in Idaho: House sponsor, Assistant Majority Leader Rep. Jason Monks (R-22, Nampa); House State Affairs Committee Chairman Brent Crane (R-13, Nampa), who presided over a thorough and fair hearing that moved H607 to the floor of the House; Senate sponsor Senator Jim Guthrie (R-28, McCammon); and Senate State Affairs Committee Chair Senator Patti Anne Lodge (R-9, Huston) who shared her positive comments about the Lottery and our retail partners. Mid-February through to St. Patrick’s Day was one of the luckiest times for Lottery players this year! Each day, one lucky player who purchased a Lucky for Life ticket also received a voucher that would allow the player to claim $1,000 at the Lottery office. This promotion proved so successful and popular we have extended it through April 17! In total, these $1,000 winning vouchers came randomly throughout the day and have been found across all of Idaho! Overall, the promotion was a tremendous success. For the month, a sales comparison shows that Lucky for Life transactions increased by 122% and sales increased by 59% over sales in the previous month.
FREE TICKET EQUALS JACKPOT WINNER FOR TWIN FALLS MAN! The only thing better than winning a jackpot from the Idaho Lottery might be winning it from a free ticket. That’s the story of James Dalos of Twin Falls who won $87,200 in early March on the popular game, Idaho Cash. Dalos had previously purchased a $5 Idaho Cash ticket that correctly matched two numbers. This win earned him a free Quick Pick ticket. He was happy to play another game. When he checked the results of his free Quick Pick Idaho Cash ticket, quite humbly, he discovered the free ticket was a a jackpot winner! After visiting Boise and collecting his winnings from the Lottery office, Dalos said he plans to simply pay off some bills and hopefully fund a vacation for him and

his wife, just as long as they can find a trusted dog-sitter! “We haven’t been anywhere in two years, so it will be good to get us away for a while,” said Dalos. Winning ticket was sold at the United Oil store on Addison in Twin Falls. For selling the ticket, United Oil earns a bonus of $8,720.
Dalos’ win is the sixth jackpot winner on Idaho Cash in the last eight months.

Here’s how it works: each week, the Lottery will post a picture of a Cabela’s cooler filled with all sorts of goodies - marshmallows, popcorn, potato chips, among others – and players comment and guess how many of those items are actually in the cooler. Whoever gets closest to the correct number, without going over, wins the cooler. If multiple people guess the same correct number, we will do a random drawing. At the end of each week, the Idaho Lottery will host a Facebook Live event to announce the correct number of items and the winner! Guesses begin each week on Monday at noon and end Friday at noon. Facebook LIVE announcement at 1:00 pm MT each Friday.
