IDAHO LOTTERY
DO goOd 2021 fiScAl REpOrT
The Idaho Lottery’s annual dividend is divided between three funds: the Department of Education’s School Building Fund, the Department of Education’s Bond Levy Equalization Fund, and the Department of Administration’s Permanent Building Fund that support our college and university campuses.
IDAHO LOTTERY MONEY DOES GOOD ACROSS IDAHO In the summer of 2021, a record setting $72.5 million dividend resulted in the Idaho Lottery eclipsing the $1,000,000,000 threshold of total dividends paid to the People of Idaho. Since 1989, the Idaho Lottery has returned a total of $1.034 billion to support our good causes: public education and the permanent buildings in our state. Every play pays. Beyond winners claiming prizes, retailers earning commissions, or schools receiving much needed upgrades and safety improvements, Lottery dividends remain in Idaho and benefit 165 communities across the Gem State. The Lottery impacts more businesses than just our 1,180 brick-and-mortar retail partnersit’s our local companies in shopping, hospitality, media, contractors, builders, and more. After 32 great years, we are proud to say, “Thanks a Billion, Idaho!” The Idaho Lottery rigorously manages its budget. Here is where the money goes: Prizes 68% Dividend 20%
Retailer Commissions 6% Marketing/ Communications 1%
Program Operations/ Game Support 4% Administration 1%
DOPROGRAMS GOOD In addition to annual dividends, Idaho Lottery “Do Good” programs: Scratch for Schools, Classroom Wishlist, and Bucks for Books provided over $150,000 in FY2021 to support education needs.
SCRATCH FOR The 20th edition of the Idaho Lottery’s Scratch for Schools program in 2020 was unlike anything offered previously. A total of 424 schools registered, many whom were in the throes of distance learning or complete school shutdowns. This year, the Idaho Lottery offered the traditional program virtually. A hallmark of the program is its ability to bring together people from various communities. And for the first time, there was opportunity through a series of Zoom calls for teachers, administrators, and staff members to interact with others from different parts of the state – many of whom had heard stories of each other but had never met before. It was a unique experience to see schools from Castleford, Idaho Falls, Lewiston and Coeur d’Alene together on the same call. In the end, Fiscal Year 2021 delivered $89,658 in much needed classroom funds to our participants.
Virtual Zoom Scratch for Schools Session
The Idaho Lottery introduced Classroom Wishlist in FY2019 as a pilot program for individual Idaho school projects. This program allows schools to propose projects, the Lottery selects one each month, and VIP Club members fund the wish to make it happen. This program funded 26 wishes in Fiscal Year 2021 and awarded nearly $18,000. Some of the projects were: • • • • • • • • • • • •

In Fall 2021, this program provided $40,000 in financial awards, delivering thousands of books to nineteen schools in need. The Idaho Lottery launched on July 19, 1989. Dividends are transferred to the Public School District Building Account, the Permanent Building Fund, and the Bond Levy Equalization Fund for distribution. Dividend distribution occurs annually in July. The Department of Education handles distribution at the district level based on average daily attendance. The Idaho Lottery office is open from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM MT, Monday through Friday, and closed all state and federal holidays. For more information, please contact: IDAHO LOTTERY P.O.
