Every day, somewhere, some way, when people participate in the Idaho Lottery, someone is benefitting. Whether it is the player themselves with a winning experience, the corner store retailer who’s earned a commission for selling and cashing winning tickets, or Idaho’s public schools and the State’s permanent buildings benefiting from Lottery proceeds, there’s always a winner.
IDAHO LOTTERY MONEY IS SPREAD ACROSS IDAHO Most people know that each summer the Idaho Lottery returns an annual dividend to the People of Idaho. Last summer, in August 2020, we returned $55.5 million. To date since beginning in 1989, we’ve returned $961.5 million. The Idaho Lottery was created specifically to benefit Idaho public schools and buildings. Since inception through June 30, 2020, the Lottery has returned $422,725,000 to the Department of Education for Idaho’s 115 school districts and 63 Charter Schools to maintain and improve student occupied facilities. Another $116,050,000 has benefitted just the Department of Education’s Bond Levy Equalization Fund to help districts meet their bond obligations. Finally, $422,725,000 has gone to Idaho’s Permanent Building Fund to support State-owned facilities, such as our public university and college campuses, state park facilities, and other public buildings. To achieve these dividends the Idaho Lottery rigorously manages it’s budget. Below is a breakout of where the money goes: Prizes 67% Dividend 20%

INTRODUCING IDAHO LOTTERY DO GOOD PROGRAMS Beyond the dividend, though, the Idaho Lottery is finding ways to get dollars to where it is needed most, into classrooms and elementary school libraries around the state.
SCRATCH FOR For nearly two decades, the Lottery has offered Scratch for Schools. This program has brought together principals, teachers, and staff regionally in a fun atmosphere to raise needed dollars for their classrooms. After nineteen years, this program has returned over $1.3 million for individual classroom needs – things like playground equipment, audio book learning tools, and technology needs. In Fiscal Year 2020, Scratch for Schools delivered over $89,000 to 426 participating schools. Below is the money raised by location in 2019. DATE LOCATION

The Idaho Lottery introduced Classroom Wish List in FY2019 as a pilot program for small school projects. This program allows schools to propose projects, the Lottery selects one each month, and VIP Club members fund the wish to make it happen. Beginning in mid-April, instead of one project per month, the Lottery began funding two to three projects per week, giving much needed support to schools during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. This program funded 19 wishes in Fiscal Year 2020 and awarded over $16,000 for projects like those listed below: • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

The program everyone was reading about in the fall of 2019 was Bucks for Books. The Idaho Lottery raised funds through the play of their VIP Club members and partnered with Barnes & Noble Booksellers to support an initiative in collaboration with the Idaho Commission for Libraries to improve early education literacy in public schools. The Idaho Lottery launched on July 19, 1989. Dividends are transferred to the Public School District Building Account, the Permanent Building Fund, and the Bond Equalization Fund for distribution. Dividend distribution occurs annually in July. The Department of Education handles distribution at the district level based on average daily attendance.
