There are so many great stories within these pages.

NEWS FROM HQ A MESSAGE FROM THE MD, ANDY KYNOCH The Queen’s Jubilee Celebrations were remarkable and I believe most of us, if not all, found some way to meet with friends and family and look back over the 70 years she has reigned. We witnessed how technology has moved with speed making the world so fastpaced and susceptible to change almost day by day. Our business is constantly evolving, whether it’s within Corporate Security or indeed Aviation Security and we must be one step ahead of those changes each and every day. Although we seem to be relatively free of Covid-19, the effects of the pandemic have brought aviation into the news more than we have ever known before as companies strive to bring back furloughed staff and ensure the surge in airline traffic and passengers is appropriately handled. I would like to thank all of our staff within our airport operations for the hard work that they have done and continue to do, to keep passengers moving. I would also like to thank our staff within the Amazon contract for all their hard work and commitment within that operation especially during their peak periods. Our company continues to win more work as you will read within these pages across both Corporate and Aviation. The terrible events in Ukraine were some I thought I would never see and has brought condemnation and support from around the world. Read the heartwarming support Paul Grzegorzek, our Corporate Regional Manager, has mustered and delivered to that beleaguered nation.

We live in challenging times and I am confident we are ready as a company to rise up and deliver ‘above and beyond’ service to all our clients no matter what changes are ahead. I can say that because we are ICTS, and we have been doing that for the last 35 years or so. It’s thanks to you, our staff. Thank you for your hard work each and every day. Take care and stay safe. - Andy.

INTERNATIONAL SAFETY AWARDS: ‘MERIT’ WINNER ICTS (UK) Ltd.’s London Head Office is presented with an International Safety Award for protecting its employees from the risk of injury and ill health at work. Mike Robinson, Chief Executive of British Safety Council, congratulated ICTS (UK) Ltd.’s London Head Office on their success in winning an International Safety Award 2022 with a Merit: “The British Safety Council applauds ICTS (UK) Ltd.’s London Head Office on their achievement. The award is in recognition of their commitment and hard work to keep their employees and workplaces free of injury and ill health. “The vision of British Safety Council is that no-one should be injured or made ill through their work – anywhere in the world. Achieving this requires more than complying with legislation; it means people committed not only to health and safety but also more and more to workplace wellbeing and impelling others to follow suit.” Andy Kynoch, Managing Director - ICTS UK & Ireland said, “We are extremely proud of this award; Health and Safety are at the core of our operation. ICTS AT ASIS EUROPE 2022 Margarita Miltiadous, Marketing Officer, ICTS UK & Ireland wrote, “The ASIS Europe 2022 event took place in Prague between 22 and 24 May. The ICTS team was very happy to participate in a fantastic event in the beautiful city of Prague. The event marked the official launch of our latest physical security innovation, Viridian. Viridian is our latest breakthrough in physical security technology which can be easily deployed locally or globally. Viridian is a game-changer in that it incorporates AI (artificial intelligence) and ML (machine learning) to measure security compliance in real-time and show a site’s resilience at any point in time. It is completely customisable and tailored to a client’s security needs. We conducted demos of Viridian at our booth and met many people; in fact, our booth was busy at all times. There was a big interest in Viridian and how it can be utilised to meet various organisations’ ever-evolving needs. Our giveaways of little tree-grow kits were a big success too! Peter McGowan delivered an excellent presentation in a full theatre on “Changing the game: Physical security transformed” which prompted even more people to approach us.

ICTS would like to thank everyone involved for a fantastic event and we look forward to the next ASIS event.”

CITY SECURITY COUNCIL AND CITY OF LONDON POLICE JOIN FORCES TO SUPPORT INCIDENT RESPONSE IN THE CITY On 8 April 2022, the City Security Council (CSC) and the City of London Police (CoLP) announced the launch of a new joint communications platform called CityINTEL that allows real time incident information to flow rapidly between the CoLP Joint Command Control Room (JCCR) and the CSC members who are based in the City of London. CityINTEL is a cloud-based purpose-built platform that will be managed by CoLP JCCR controllers. It has been tested over a period of months, with registered CSC members adding relevant security information about the buildings they operate to the platform to allow the JCCR controllers visibility of the most appropriate people to send incident information as it occurs. Information can be targeted to individual buildings, by geofenced areas as well as used to broadcast more generally when an incident occurs to the members, while CSC members can send communications back to the JCCR via the platform relating to a specific incident or a new incident. The Corporation of London are also a signed-in partner to the platform with the expectation that other City based organisations may join in the future.

ICTS’ Ashley Fernandes, Chair of the CSC said: “Allowing the two-way sharing of information between the police and our security officers on the ground will not only help us react and support the emergency services in times of need but will ensure our responses are coordinated and robust. The platform won’t add an unnecessary layer of communications because it has a specific use, such as advising on counter-terrorism threats or protests occurring as well as allowing us to inform the police immediately of any issues taking place within the City of London.” The new platform was officially launched by City of London Police Commissioner, Angela McLaren who pushed the button to send the first communication from the platform to the CSC members. She said: “Working closely with our communities and security partners across the City is an important way for us to gather intelligence, and share information to enable faster crime prevention and detection. We are constantly striving to find new and innovative ways to improve our processes, and the introduction of CityINTEL gives us an opportunity to engage with our contacts on the ground more efficiently. “This new tool sends a distinct message to those with criminal intent within the Square Mile. We have a multitude of partners ready to act as our eyes and ears and report any instances of wrongdoing, or suspicious activity. If you are looking to operate in the City of London, you will be caught.” Powering this game-changing initiative is Zinc Systems’ core product SYNAPSE, a globally recognised major incident management platform, which has been branded ‘CityINTEL’ for this project. The platform is integrated with a supporting mobile smartphone application that allows CSC security personnel to quickly alert the CoLP Joint Command Control Room of live incidents as well as providing the CoLP with the ability to push targeted messages to specific locations and stakeholders included on the platform.

Photo (L-R): Sophie Malone Commercial Director Zinc Systems, Ashley Fernandes Chair of City Security Council, City of London Police Commissioner Angela McLaren, Graham Bassett Vice Chair of City Security Council and Gary Brailsford-Hart, Director of Information CoLP.

Sophie Malone, Commercial Director of Zinc Systems said: “Our mission is to help organisations protect what matters. CityINTEL will deliver a safer City, through an innovative approach to the management of incidents and sharing of intelligence. Using its powerful analytics the platform will provide all the tools that the CoLP JCCR need to gather, communicate and analyse data quickly, as well as deliver 2-way communication with Security teams; helping all to be more prepared, take instant control and respond more effectively in events.”

THE THIRD ANNUAL HI VIZ! DAY IN THE CITY

Wednesday 18 May 2022: Hundreds of Police and Security Officers, including our Canine Teams took to the streets of the City of London in a unique exercise to help fight crime, raise public safety awareness and boost community engagement. The third annual HI Viz! exercise – held across the City of London – was designed to highlight that the Square Mile is safe for everyone who visits, lives or works in the area, as well as improving community engagement. Throughout the day, the public was invited to chat with City of London Police Officers and Security Officers – clad in high visibility jackets – at pop-up centres at St Paul’s, the Royal Exchange, Aviva Plaza and Liverpool Street / Bishopsgate. And with the night-time economy enjoying post-Covid growth, Officers visited licenced premises during the evening to discuss ways to lower incidents of violence – especially against women – and theft.

BUSINESS ASSURANCE A PUBLIC HEALTH BRIEF FROM OUR ICTS BUSINESS ASSURANCE DEPARTMENT This information will help you to understand how to reduce the spread of respiratory infections such as COVID-19 and flu in the workplace. This is especially important if there are people in the workplace whose immune system means they are at higher risk of serious illness from COVID-19. While there is no longer a requirement for all employers to explicitly consider COVID-19 in their statutory health and safety risk assessments, it is important that as a business, we continue to comply with the legal obligations relating to health and safety, employment and equality duties. Know Which Symptoms to Look out for: Respiratory infections can spread easily between people. It is important for staff to be aware of symptoms, so they can take action to reduce the risk of spreading the infection to other people.

The symptoms of COVID-19 and other respiratory infections are very similar, so it is not possible to tell if you have COVID-19, flu or another infection based on symptoms alone. Most people with COVID-19 will have a relatively mild illness, especially if they have been vaccinated.

Symptoms of COVID-19, flu and common respiratory infections include: •

Continuous cough

•

High temperature, fever or chills

•

Loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell

•

Shortness of breath

•

Unexplained tiredness, lack of energy

•

Muscle aches or pains that are not due to exercise

•

Not wanting to eat or not feeling hungry

•

Headache that is unusual or longer lasting than usual

•

Sore throat, stuffy or runny nose

•

Diarrhoea, feeling sick or being sick

Some people may continue to have a cough or feel tired after other symptoms have improved, but this does not mean that they are still infectious. You can find information about these symptoms on the NHS website. What to Do If A Member of Staff has Symptoms of a Respiratory Infection, Including COVID-19: If a member of staff is unwell with symptoms of a respiratory infection, such as COVID-19, they should follow the guidance for people with symptoms of a respiratory infection such as COVID-19. Actions to Reduce the Spread of Respiratory Infections, Including COVID-19: Encourage and enable vaccination. Vaccinations are very effective at preventing serious illness from COVID -19, flu and other diseases. Let fresh air In. Bringing in fresh air to occupied spaces can help to reduce the concentration of respiratory particles, lowering the risk of airborne transmission of respiratory viruses. The risk of catching or passing on COVID-19 and other respiratory infections can be higher in certain places and when doing certain activities. When someone with an infection breathes, speaks, coughs or sneezes, they release respiratory particles which can contain the virus. These particles can come into contact with the eyes, nose or mouth or can be breathed in by another person. These virus-containing particles can also land on surfaces and the virus can be passed from person to person via touch. In general, the risk of catching or passing on a respiratory infection is highest when in close contact with someone who is infected. It is also possible to pass on a respiratory infection between people who do not have close contact, especially if they are in a crowded and/or poorly ventilated space where smaller virus particles can stay suspended in the air for some time and where there are more people who might be infectious. The risk of airborne transmission is increased when occupants in a space are participating in energetic activity, such as exercising, shouting, singing or talking loudly.

10

Maintain a Clean Workplace: Keeping workplaces clean reduces the risk of infection and can reduce sickness in a workforce. It’s especially important to clean surfaces that people touch a lot. Staff can be supported to maintain a clean working environment by providing them with cleaning products, soap and hot water, and/or sanitiser. Risk Assessment:

We will continue to comply with the requirements for cleaning, ventilation and welfare facilities in the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992.

WORLD DAY FOR SAFETY AND HEALTH AT WORK 2022—28 APRIL Click on the image below to read the article written by our Health and Safety Manager, Hilary Curtis:

MENTAL HEALTH SPECIALIST TRAINING PROGRAMME INTRODUCED IN ICTS UK & IRELAND It is currently Mental Health Awareness Week (9 - 15 May 2022) in the UK, an opportunity to raise awareness of issues surrounding mental health and to encourage change. As an organisation, we are committed to fostering good mental health and wellbeing and doing what we can to promote it within the workplace. The pandemic and lockdown, coupled with the uncertainty and concern around our current geopolitical situation, has generated a whole mix of emotions. For many, this has created stress, anxiety, and the accentuation of underlying conditions which were perhaps previously manageable. As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility strategy for 2022 we are rolling out a Mental Health specialist training programme for our Leaders and Managers. It is our goal to have teams of Mental Health First Aiders in our sites of operation throughout the UK and Ireland, there to support and make a difference.

This training will allow our people to feel more confident around the subject of mental health. It will also highlight the policies and provide our Leaders and Managers with the skills to approach difficult conversations with compassion and openness. Our First Aiders, assisted by Mental Health Champions in every Division of the business, will act as a first point of contact and provide support and guidance to their colleagues. Together, we will make a difference.

TRAINING AVIATION SECURITY MANAGER (ASM) COURSE Congratulations to all those who successfully completed the Aviation Security Manager’s course which ran between 9 and 13 May 2022 at London Heathrow Airport. Read more about it on page 31.

INSIDER THREAT Brian O’Shaughnessy, Business Continuity Manager, ICTS UK & Ireland writes, “Recently I have been working on a report into insider threats, which are malicious threats to our company that come from anyone whom we allow legitimate access to the workings of the company or its systems. Insider threat has consistently been identified as one of the highest key threats to companies and presents a complex and dynamic risk to our company which has the possibility to impact any area of our business operations or those of our clients. A recent white paper highlighted that 53% of the companies surveyed in the report had suffered some form of inside threat against them.

Photo (L-R): Atta Bhatti, Nicola Jesson, Royston Crandley, Sarina Reuben (ICTS UK & Ireland’s Aviation Training and Compliance Manager), Kirsty Virdee, Sean Brennan, Zahid Hussein (front row).

CONGRATULATIONS, BRIAN O’SHAUGHNESSY Congratulations to Brian O’Shaughnessy, our Business Continuity Manager, for receiving his NEBOSH qualification. NEBOSH stands for National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health, a UK awarding organisation offering professional qualifications in health, safety and environmental management.

From this report, an online training session has been developed which we started to roll out in April to help everyone identify the signs of insider threat and significantly increase our resilience to such an event. For insider threat, the age-old saying of: Prevention Is Better Than Cure would appear to be true.

CANINE TRAINING AT CANARY WHARF

Natalie Çelikten, Bids Writer, wrote, “On Wednesday 30 March 2022 I had the pleasure of assisting Charlotte Smith (Canine Security Training Manager— Corporate Security) and her team in the dogs training programme at Canary Wharf. With a bright and early start, I was briefed by Charlotte and went undercover with drugs in my coat pocket at different locations. I blended into the public by joining café queues, riding the underground escalator, looking in shop windows and placing myself on benches. After a few tries I was swiftly detected by Becky the handler and Zuma the dog, leaving me with a rather wet coat pocket! Confident handler Becky and a very well-behaved Zuma the dog did very well in training.

OUR CANINE SECURITY TEAM IS LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO ASSIST WITH THEIR TRAINING PROGRAMME

Are you interested to learn more about our Canine Teams and to contribute to their ongoing training and development? Our Canine Division is looking for ICTS staff member volunteers who are willing to give up a few hours of their time to assist with training drills. No prior experience required and the training can be at any location within the London area and surrounding counties. For further information, please contact Charlotte Smith, Canine Training Manager—Corporate Security Services by email: charlotte.smith@icts.co.uk. Roberta Puccinelli Sher, Marketing Manager, commented, “I recently joined Charlotte and her Team to help with the training at an educational establishment not far from my home. I even brought my primaryschool-aged son, who was allowed to watch from a distance. We spent a lovely evening, meeting the handlers, seeing the dogs in action and learning something new.”

It was an enjoyable experience and great opportunity to learn more about the Canine Team from Charlotte, who has many years of experience in the field. I learned about how the dogs are trained in respect of their capabilities, timescales and demand. The canine team look forward to expanding their detection dogs, taking on board new opportunities and welcoming new recruits.”

25 YEARS’ SERVICE

20 YEARS’ SERVICE

Derek Hale (Manchester Airport).

John Quigg (Glasgow Airport)

“I started with ICTS as a young(!) 51-year-old at Manchester Airport. The station had opened about 18 months earlier, and I started as an Airsider on American carriers Continental, and American Airlines, where I progressed as a Profiler. I have worked as a Profiler on American, Canadian and UK carriers, and various other airlines with differing security requirements. I have carried out X-Ray duties on El-Al, cargo, private jets, and Liverpool Parcels Sorting Office contracts. I have worked at numerous airports, including Paris Charles de Gaulle, Leeds/Bradford, Doncaster, East Midlands, Cardiff, Bristol, and Liverpool, and I have really enjoyed the work involved. I have worked with some great colleagues, many of whom have become great friends. Aviation Security requirements have changed immensely since I started, from reliance on the Agents’ experience and knowledge to more on technology, but a good agent still needs that ‘gut feeling’. To conclude, I have enjoyed my last 25 years with ICTS, let’s see if I can stretch it to 30 years!”

“I cannot believe its 20 years since starting out as a Security Agent with ICTS at Glasgow Airport. I then progressed to Supervisor in 2004 and have now been in my current role as Trainer since 2014 covering both Glasgow and Edinbugh Airports. As a Trainer within ICTS it gives me immense satisfaction to see trainees from initial courses progressing through the ranks of the ICTS family which I hope to be part of for many years to come. I would like to say a big thanks for all the help and guidance I have been given through my journey with ICTS.” Bruno Jesus Freire (London Gatwick Airport) “I moved to the UK in 2001 and worked for 7 months at Costa coffee at London Gatwick Airport, before joining ICTS in 2002 as an HBS X-ray operative. I have progressed to being a Supervisor and have also assisted ICTS working on different contracts during my 20 years of service which has passed by very quick. I am proud to be a part of the ICTS family.”

Marc Lewis (HQ Accounts)

“I am very happy to have achieved 20 years in ICTS, throughout my time I've worked with loads of different people from all different backgrounds and learnt so much about the airport and the people. What I have enjoyed the most is all the parts of the operation I have learned throughout my time including terminal supervisor, controller, and now currently supervising the catering unit. I hope to achieve many more years and play my part in the continued growth the company is showing.” Amrik Singh (London Heathrow Airport) "I want to thank ICTS for this long service award. Joining ICTS was one of my dreams, and today being an employee and getting this award is remarkable. ICTS is my gold mine, so I promise I will work harder from now and I will support our company in growth." Many congratulations also to Lorraine Ferguson (Glasgow Airport)

I look forward to all the future challenges ICTS brings.” Naveeda Zafar (London Heathrow Airport) “After 15 years, I can say that ICTS is still an enjoyable and rewarding place to work. I am grateful to the many colleagues who have supported me throughout my time here. I look forward to many more successful years working with all of you. Thank you very much.” Ramachandran Saravanabavan (London Heathrow Cargo) “I started my employment with ICTS over 15 years ago in the Cargo security side of the operation. After 5 years I was promoted to Supervisor, and for the last 5 years I have expanded my role to work with multiple contracts falling under cargo as Ops Duty Manager. I could not be happier, I have met amazing people and have made great friends throughout the years. I have great staff working with me and supporting me to achieve the targets I will be thankful for them all the time. I have watched the company expand and grow. I am very happy working for ICTS and hope we are in the years to come.”

Atta Bhatti (London Heathrow Airport) “It has been a privilege to work for ICTS, where I started as an Agent, and ICTS gave me opportunities to flourish and become a Manager. I’d particularly like to thank my Service Delivery Managers, Joe and Levent, who have supported me along with my T3 team – without their support I could not carry out my tasks; I am very grateful.” Jose Letendrine (London Gatwick Airport) “I joined ICTS in 2007 as an HBS Screener and have since progressed to HBS Supervisor. I have also attended with ICTS the NATO and G8 Summit to assist with Security cover. 15 years have passed very quickly. I am proud to work for ICTS.” David Simon (London Gatwick Airport)

“I worked for a cleaning company at the airport before joining ICTS as a HBS screening operative, having progressed as a HBS Supervisor to my current position as Duty Manager. It's always been a pleasure working for this company, the employees that work in Heathrow work well together, like a family. We all share the same goals and hold strong values. I have always been lucky to have good management who listen to their staff. Keep up the good work.” Esme Randhawa (London Heathrow Airport) “I am happy to celebrate my 15th Anniversary of working with ICTS. It has been an eventful journey where I have learnt and contributed in equal measures. My personal experience is that the staff at all levels at ICTS have always been helpful and supportive towards me especially during Furlough. ICTS has a good working environment, and I am glad I have been here for such a long time.” Elaine Widdrington (London Heathrow Airport) “I have been working in ICTS for 15 years and have had a brilliant time. I have especially enjoyed my team and colleagues. I have enjoyed working on all the different contracts we have, and witnessing the company overcome the recent challenges of the pandemic, that has made us all stronger and more determined employees.”

19

MaryAnn Black (Glasgow Airport) MaryAnn Black cannot believe she has been working at Glasgow airport for 15 years. During this time, working as a Non Contract Agent, she thinks she has easily searched 10,000 aircraft seats! She is mainly based in Catering Facility for summer 2022, carrying out IFS searches for the Edinburgh United and Delta flights. Luckily, she does not mind the chill of the freezer and has been encouraging recently qualified new starts to join her.

Congratulations to Donna Menzies and Bill Young who have both reached the 15 years milestone of working with ICTS at Glasgow Airport. Both are fully qualified Profiling Agents, and although there are no USA Carriers departing Glasgow this season, they will be fully involved with document checking on WestJet and AirTransat. Over the past years, they have seen many changes in the work they have been trained to do, from Profiling using the Chapter 11 Method, through APIS (API data collection) to the more recently APM Method. Both confirmed they enjoyed the challenge that new training brings and being involved in doc checking on Canadian Flights this summer will require them to be stringently aware of the frequently changing requirements for entering Canada.

She commented that she didn’t mind where she worked or what job she was given as it meant working as a team with her colleagues. That made the job so enjoyable, and getting the passengers safely to their destination and on time made her proud every day.

Donna commented that it was never knowing what the next passenger presented to you that kept the job exciting. Bill agreed, and the debriefing at the end of the flight over coffee was worth getting out of bed for the early starts.

Donna Menzies (Glasgow Airport) & William Young (Glasgow Airport)

Many congratulations also to Thomas Anderson (Glasgow Airport)

20

5 YEARS’ SERVICE

Gary Roberts (Manchester Airport) “Wow! 15 years and I only joined up for a 6 month stop gap between jobs, but I found myself enjoying the job and all the interesting aspects and varied duties that the job entails so much that I decided to stay. I have worked on all contracts at Manchester, including high profile American carriers, El-Al Israeli Airlines, Oman Air, and others, as well as catering. I am now a supervisor, mainly on Singapore, Aer Lingus, and Kuwait, which has brought me into contact with lots of interesting people, colleagues and non-colleagues alike. I love my job and thoroughly enjoy meeting people from different cultures, ensuring their security and the security of the assets we are protecting is maintained. It’s great to be part of a company that has people of all ages and backgrounds working within, and I look forward to every day because even though the routines might be the same, every day is different. I hope to celebrate many more years with ICTS.” Michael Davies (Manchester Airport) “I’ve enjoyed working for ICTS and I have met some lovely people. I look forward to returning to work in the near future.” Many congratulations also to Elizabeth Hoare (Dublin Airport), Michael Naughton (Dublin Airport) & Paul O'Reilly (Dublin Airport)

The Customer Service Star scheme runs alongside our Employee(s) of the Month/Year scheme. The scheme has been established to recognise those employees who deliver excellent customer service to such a level that a client or a member of the public takes the trouble to write/post a commendation about the service delivered. This scheme goes a small way to say thank you and recognises all those very important customer service interventions by many of our employees. Employees are asked to email a copy of the feedback to our HR Team—hr@icts.co.uk.

Each winner will receive a sum of £/€500 as before. Should we not have a total of 6 winners in a quarter, the excess funding will be placed in a pot and will be allocated to the Employee of the Year’s charity of choice. We will continue to run the Employee of the Year reward programme and there will be no changes to this. Please note that nominations for Employee of the Quarter should only be in respect of employees who have gone above and beyond their daily duties. We are looking for employees who have done something exceptional that is worthy of recognition. Nominations should also be limited to those staff below the level of Site/Station Manager. Nominations are to be sent via email to: eom.nominations@icts.co.uk together with any supporting documents. Please note that the deadline for submissions for each quarter is as follows: 31 March 30 June 30 September 31 December

EMPLOYEES OF THE QUARTER FROM OUR AVIATION DIVISION: PAUL DAVIDSON, LEIGH-ANN SCOTT & KIERAN HOUSE Congratulations to our EoQ from Aviation: Paul has been recognised for the quality of his work, his flexibility, reliability and his team player skills. Leigh-Ann helped a passenger catch her flight. LeighAnn ran from the drop-off point through security and onward to the gate with a passenger’s forgotten passport, enabling her to catch her flight. Kieran went out of his way to help a disabled passenger get to the airport and take a Covid test enabling them to travel.

Paul “I am extremely grateful to have been nominated for this award. I have been part of a great team at Southampton Airport for 17 years. I always take pride in doing a very important job to the best of my ability and it is very satisfying to have my efforts recognised.”

All 2022 winner(s) of the Employee of the Quarter make up the shortlist for the Employee (s) of the Year 2022 award, who will receive £/€5,000 (gross) and a lapel pin. Leigh-Ann “I am truly honoured to have been selected for Employee of the Quarter. it came as a great surprise! I always put myself in the passenger's shoes and treat them how I would like to be treated. It was a good feeling to make the passenger’s experience less stressful and I was delighted to see the gate still open when I arrived with the passport. A little help goes a long way.”

Kieran “I am honoured to have been chosen for this award. As Security, I believe we should always go above and beyond for our passengers as many people can struggle with the airport processes. Everyday we overcome different challenges during our work day that I am sure many of my colleagues would do the same and always put our passengers first. I am so thankful that I have been chosen for this award and look forward to continuing to provide an excellent customer service experience.”

OUR EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR 2021: MARK BIRD

Our Employee of the Year 2021, Mark Bird and his wife were treated to lunch by our MD, Andy Kynoch. (See photo below)

CALUM BROWN When did you join ICTS? I joined ICTS Canine in January 2020. What was your first job (at ICTS)? Assistant Training Manager Canine Services. What do you enjoy most of your job? Working in a strong team, where everyone contributes to our vision. The challenges of dog training will always keep me trying to learn more! Seeing my team develop, taking bold steps into making us better motivates me. What key attributes make someone successful in your role? Allowing everyone to have a voice and listening to them. Encouraging team members at all levels to be decisive are very important. Being organised but flexible, and having patience goes a long way. Being able to communicate clearly and in the dog world, proving your product! Photo (L-R): Kevin Shopland (ICTS Station Manager, Bristol Airport), Mark Bird, Helen Jones (ICTS Deputy Station Manager, Bristol Airport.

What is your favourite pastime? Travelling with my wife, children and the dog! What has been your greatest achievement?

Mark, who is a Supervisor at Bristol Airport, has been recognised for his valuable contribution to the ICTS Mental Health and Wellbeing Programme at Bristol Airport. Read more by clicking on the image on the left.

Having confident and strong children. If you weren’t a Canine Trainer specialist, what type of career would you choose? If I weren’t a dog trainer, I’d be a people trainer. Teaching and training, passing on my experience has always excited me. Training development and the analysis of training is a field that I have worked in for a long time, so whether its with people or dogs, I’d be training!

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY ICTS SUPPORTS THE ROAD TO UKRAINE CHARITY

Instead of using his annual leave to take advantage of the lifting of restrictions and flying away somewhere sunny, this year Corporate Regional Manager, Paul Grzegorzek has been doing something very different with his leave. When the war in Ukraine started, Paul felt he had to help. He has an aunt who lives in southern Ukraine, and was unable to get hold of her for 6 days. During that time, he read day after day of horrific news about the war, and realised he had to do something. One news article was about a group from the UK, RoadtoUkraine.com. It was a group of everyday people who were coming together to drive emergency humanitarian aid and medical supplies from the UK to Ukraine, and help out at the border before returning with orphans displaced by the war to rehome them across Europe. Paul also offered his skills as a medic at the border, which were gained in his time in the police as a riot medic. The team came together from across the world, with members from the UK, Israel, the US, Canada and Ukraine. Carrying tons of donations and having raised money to buy more, the team set off from Kent on 18 March and drove across Europe, finally stopping in Przemysyl in Poland, a few kilometres away from the Ukraine border. There, they immediately set to work assisting in a refugee centre set up in a Tesco complex, where hundreds of displaced women and children were waiting, most in shock or traumatised, having travelled hundreds of miles, often on foot, to get to safety after their homes or towns had been shelled. The team also helped at the border, working with a number of organisations including Saviours Without Borders, an Israeli organisation who needed supplies for the women and children on foot waiting to cross the border in blistering heat during the day and the freezing cold at night. Paul and the team assisted by providing supplies such as water, blankets, hats, gloves and scarves, bringing the supplies to the border and then working with Saviours Without Borders to take them across the border on foot and hand them out directly to those in need.

The team also began to work with a number of organisations and charities within Ukraine itself, and travelled into Lviv to provide medical supplies to ambulances and medics heading out to the front lines to provide vital medical support, essential in light of the fact that the Russians have been deliberately targeting hospitals and medical centres. Paul said “the strangest thing in Ukraine was hearing the air raid sirens going off so often. You could tell who was from Lviv and who was from further east when that happened. Everyone from Lviv ignored it, while those from Kyiv and beyond ran for cover every time they went off.”

After a successful first trip, Paul headed out again in late April, driving another convoy of aid to the border. “There is still so much to do,” Paul said, “and it doesn’t look like the war is going to end anytime soon. I will keep going out there until I have no more leave to take, because I’ve seen people who are just like you and I, who were going about their daily lives when they were invaded and their homes were destroyed. There was a doctor from Mariupol who was in tears at the visa desk at the refugee camp, and she said she didn’t want to go to another country, but she had no choice as her home, and the entire city where she grew up, has been razed to the ground.” When asked why he had chosen to help in this way, Paul responded “I felt like I had PTSD from not helping. I know it sounds silly, but I couldn’t sleep at night and I had a constant feeling of being in the wrong place, wherever I was and whatever I was doing. I saw a news article with a toddler walking on his own with all he had left of his life in a tiny plastic bag, and he was crying inconsolably as he crossed the border. My youngest son is that age and I thought “if that was Louis and I was gone, would someone help him?” From that moment, I knew I had to do something.”

26

Back in the UK, Paul is now fundraising and coordinating physical donations from across the world on behalf of RoadToUkraine.com. He tells us that some of the aid being sent through other channels is being stolen and sold on the black market, so the group are only working with verified partners to get the aid directly to where it needs to be. When asked if he will go back, Paul said, “Absolutely, I will keep going back until I’m not needed anymore, because it’s the right thing to do. I would also like to thank everyone who has donated, including ICTS UK & Ireland, because every single penny makes a difference to the life of someone displaced by this horrific and senseless war.”

ICTS UK & Ireland is delighted to support the Road to Ukraine charity in raising money for the supply of medical equipment for the Ukraine relief efforts with a donation to the charity. Regional Manager Paul Grzegorzek said of the donation, “Thank you so much! This will genuinely help to save lives. I am genuinely honoured to work for this company, you have all proved once again what an amazing group of people you/we are.” For more information and to support Road to Ukraine see here: www.roadtoukraine.com

WORDS OF PRAISE FROM ONE OF OUR AIRLINE CLIENTS AT DUBLIN AIRPORT “Hi Graham, As per our conversation earlier, the quick actions of Gerard O’Reilly today on our 725 flight prevented significant damage to our aircraft engine.

KUWAIT AIRWAYS CHOOSES ICTS AT MANCHESTER AIRPORT Our ICTS Team was delighted to welcome Kuwait Airways to Manchester Airport on Sunday 1 May 2022. Manchester is one of the airline’s new routes for the 2022 summer season. The ICTS Team is responsible for the provision of aircraft guarding and search duties. With three flights a week (Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday), the route connecting Kuwait City with Manchester is a boost for businesses and tourism. Kuwait Airways joins a number of airlines which have chosen ICTS UK & Ireland as their security partner at Manchester Airport, including Virgin Atlantic, Singapore Airlines, Aer Lingus, Transat, Cathay Pacific Airways and Saudia.

The wind this morning caught an out-of-service baggage cart and blew it at speed towards the engine of our aircraft. Gerard was our ramp observer, he raised the alarm of the cart making its way towards the engine while he ran to intercept it. Gerard was able to make it to the back of the runaway cart and he was able to reduce the speed of it before it made contact with the engine. Thankfully, and as a result of his efforts, the engine only suffered minor damage and the aircraft was able to depart safely and our customers weren’t inconvenienced. I can only call him a hero for this! I would also like to mention that I was able to witness Gerard and Peter Burns OJT (on-job-training) one of our newest members to the team yesterday and they did an exemplary job! It was great to see how thorough they were with our access control requirements and the use of HHMD. We are extremely grateful to the team and the excellent job they do for us each day! Please pass on our appreciation to Gerard and the whole team for their continued excellence.”

ELECTRONIC SECURITY RECRUITMENT FAIR MANCHESTER AIRPORT Terence Bebbington, Support Trainer writes, “Andrew Wood and I attended a recruitment fair on 24 May 2022, at Wythenshawe Forum, Manchester. There were representatives from a very large number of employers from Manchester Airport, including a number of our Aviation Security competitors. Despite this, our table was the busiest of all the others, a fact acknowledged by two representatives from Jobcentreplus, with whom we have agreed an in-principle partnership to carry out interviews of potential candidates, checked by themselves and with 5-years’ checkable history already completed, at their offices in Wythenshawe, Didsbury (Manchester), and Stockport. As a result of speaking with attendees at the jobs fair, we obtained contact details for 59 persons, all of whom have now received further information and application forms via email. We are confident that the contacts we made at the jobs fair – particularly with Jobcentreplus - will result in a number of good candidates joining us.”

Curtis Wright, Head of Electronic Security and Monitoring Services writes, “The sales team has been enjoying great success of late after a lot of hard work. The team attended The Security Event in Birmingham in April and having spent a busy day in various meetings, it’s had some exciting results: working with some of the industry’s leading technology partners creating new business opportunities for ICTS. Highlights include a successful bid for Access Control, CCTV and intercom for a large office fit out through an M&E contractor with whom we’ve worked previously. The Reading-based company has specified Eagle Eye Networks which is Cloud storage for the CCTV, as well as Brivo on the Access Control. Brivo is another cloud-based solution, meaning the doors can be controlled from anywhere in the world. These are both new technology partners for ICTS and it’s fantastic to win new business with them so early on. Another fantastic win for us last month was a complete refurbishment of an NHS facility in Hove. We will be fitting a brand-new Paxton Access Control system along with Hikvision CCTV cameras. The facility itself is being set-up to help young adults with eating disorders and anxiety. ICTS feels extremely privileged to play an important role in keeping the patients safe. Lastly, we are due to start a project for Middlesex University for the refurbishment of the West Stand at the Stone X Stadium, home of Premiership rugby team, Saracens. The installation of a new Intruder Alarm and CCTV system is part of a massive £23m redevelopment project which includes a centre of excellence for Middlesex University’s London Sport Institute and Health Faculty.” You can read more about it here: New West Stand (saracens.com) Photo above (L-R): Curtis Wright with Adam Lodge.
