Robert LeRoy Bennett age 86 of Ionia, MI passed away March 27, 2024. He was born on October 23, 1937 in Ionia to mom, Fern (Charlie) Montgomery and dad Warren (June) Bennett. Robert married Margaret Lesky on February 17, 1955 in Ionia. He worked for Ionia Hospital doing maintenance work for 25 years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed remodeling houses, doing carpentry and cement work.

Surviving are his loving wife of 69 Years, Margaret T Bennett of Ionia; children, Rochelle (Dan) Makley of Fenwick, Robbie Bennett and Annie Misner of Ionia, Peggy Daugherty and Darryle Bowman of Houghton Lake and Laurie (Dirk) Lake of Ionia; 18 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and a soon to be great great grandchild; siblings, Sherry Shook of Lansing, Gloria (Ken) King of Indiana, Madeline (Gary) Hunter of Moddersville, George (Jackie) Bennett of Lansing, Linda (Ron) Dankenbring, Nancy (Wayne) Morgridge and Pat (Terry) Madison; sisters-in-law, Shirley Bennett, Jean Peoples, Mary Seymour and Phyllis Cahill; special cousin and friend, Billy Montgomery.

Gary Robert Christensen age 79, passed peacefully in his home, surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, March 27, 2024. “Although our lives’ journey have bid us to be apart, I am with you, you are with me, always in our heart.” Carolyn Ferreira Gary was born on July 12, 1944, to Robert and Doris (Conklin) Christensen. Gary graduated from Belding High School in 1963. He went on to serve in the Navy from November 6, 1964 to November 4, 1966. Gary continued his service with the National Guard for 4 years. He retired from General Motors after 36 years and started his own lawn-mowing business. Gary is survived by his loving wife Debra L. Christensen (Mapes), son Jay B. Christensen (Barb), daughter Michelle Castle (Matt), brother Gale Christensen (Bonnie), sister-in-law Camille Christensen, 5 grandchildren, Jared and Abby Christensen, Mattelynn, Michaela, and Henry Castle, honorary sister Kathy Squires, special friend John Lafler, many nieces, nephews and brothers/sisters-in-law. Gary was preceded in death by his parents Robert W. and Doris B. (Conklin) Christensen, his brother, Jerry Blaine Christensen, mother and fatherin-law William C. and Doris I. Millwood. Gary loved life! When he was not busy working, lending a hand, cheering on his grandchildren, or shopping he was fishing up north on the St. Marys River. Gary was a member of the Ionia County Fishing & Hunting Club and the Ionia Loyal Order of the Moose where he enjoyed sharing stories and playing cards. His impact will be forever felt by all who were fortunate to know him. His ability to sacrifice, provide, support, and love will forever be ingrained in all he knew.

Visitation was scheduled on Friday, April 5 from 4 to 8:00 pm and Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 1 to 2:00 pm at Lake Funeral Home, 3521 S State Rd., Ionia, MI 48846. A memorial service will be held following visitation on Saturday, April 6 at 2:00 pm. Family and friends are welcome to gather immediately following the service at the Ionia Loyal Order of the Moose, 869 E. Lincoln Ave, Ionia, MI 48846. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Gary R. Christensen to the Ionia County Fishing & Hunting Club at 2311 Bluewater Hwy., Ionia, MI 48846. Lillian “Pat” Yvonne Madison age 85 of Mulliken, MI passed away March 31, 2024. She was born on September 23, 1938, in Easton Township, the daughter of Charles and Joy (Bowers) Montgomery. She married Terry Madison on November 19, 1984. Pat loved going to her grandkids sporting events, camping at the fair and going out to dinner. She also loved her dog GIGI.

Surviving is her husband Terry Madison of Mulliken; children, Dawn (Bob) Loveland of Vermontville, Arlin (Robin) Duke Jr. of Cadillac, Terry (Vanessa) Madison Jr. of Orleans, Tina Ruehs of Eaton Rapids, Kurt Duke of Mulliken, Tracey Madison of Ohio, and Angie (Chris) Musser of Vermontville; 19 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; sisters, Linda (Ron) Dankenbring of Ionia and Nancy (Wayne) Morgridge of Ionia. She was preceded in death by her first husband Arlin Duke, parents, sisters, Doris Hopkins, JoAnn Robinson and Margaret Yahr and stepbrother, Robert Bennett. ‘Ginny’ age 86 of Lyons, Michigan passed away peacefully February 3, 2024. She was born April 21, 1937, in Lyons, Michigan, the daughter of Webster and Florence (Cowles) Linebaugh. She was a graduate of Portland High School and Michigan State University with a degree in elementary education. Virginia married Douglas E. Ferris on June 14, 1958. She taught third grade for over thirty years at Portland Public Schools. She was a former 4-H member and a 4-H leader for over sixty years. She was the superintendent of 4-H Foods for many years. She was a member of LeValley Methodist Church and sang in the choir. She was involved with the Sterrey Stout Sunday school class and supported the Ionia High School FFA program. She enjoyed reading, sewing, weaving baskets and playing games. She was an excellent cook and baker and well known for her delicious pies and rye bread. Surviving Virginia are her two children, Tammy (Tom) Dickinson of Ionia and Kirk (Jessica) Ferris of Lyons, grandchildren Bethany (Jacob) Bormann of Kalamazoo, Matthew Dickinson of East Lansing and Bryant (Rebecca) Dickinson of Ionia, Joshua (Madison) Ferris of Lyons, Brandon (Alyssa) Ferris of Ionia, Brianna (Jack) Greve of Manistee, Heather (Jeffrey Koelsch) Ferris of Caledonia and Jayden Gerrity of Grand Rapids, great grandchildren Henry and Charlotte Bormann, Aiden Greve, Emmett Ferris, Cole Dickinson and Pierson Ferris, sisters Jean Kuhlman, Pat (Robert) Thomas, Judy (Han) Huynh, brother Jim (Judy) Linebaugh, sisters-in-law Audrey Keefer and Ardist Ferris, close friend Sondra Bergy, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister and brother-in-law Margaret and Bob Janes, brothers-in-law Ned Kuhlman, Basil Keefer and Duane Ferris, nephews Steve Ferris and Jeremy Linebaugh.

Funeral services will be held at LeValley Methodist Church on Saturday, April 20th at 11:00 AM with Pastor Nancy Patera officiating. Interment Keefer Cemetery. Visitation will be at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia on Thurday, April 19th from 4-7 PM and 1 hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements cared for by Lake Funeral Home in Ionia. † NELSON Pamela Jean Nelson age 71 of Saranac, MI passed away March 31, 2024. She was born on September 26, 1952 in Ionia, the daughter of Paul and Helen (Cross) Morrison.

Pam graduated from Saranac High School with the class of 1970. She married Miles “Mike” Nelson on June 12, 1970 in Huntsville, AL. Pam worked for Country Roads Upholstery, Meijer in Ionia, I-96 Speedway, L & S Pharmacy in Saranac, real estate with Troms agency and managed Saranac Café. She loved her grandkids and enjoyed watching birds, reading and meeting her friends for lunch.

Surviving is her husband, Miles “Mike” Nelson of Saranac; children, Brian (Melissa) Nelson of Muir, Aimee Nelson and Jeff Noon of Lowell and Beth (Brandon) Moore of Portland; grandchildren, Matthew Nelson, Kyle Rininger, Nicholas Nelson, Samantha Moore, Spencer Moore, Dustin Taylor, Anthony Nelson, Dallas Taylor and Brittany Nelson; great grandchildren, Karleigh Rininger, Lucas Rininger and Kole Rininger; brother-in-law, Kenneth Nelson; sisters-in-law, Deb Minnie, Esther “Pearl” White and Sue (William) Meyers. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Joseph Morrison and Phillip Morrison. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church on Saturday, April 6th 11:00 AM with Father Michael Goodwin celebrant. Interment Saranac Cemetery. John “Stub”

Mason age 67 of Saranac passed away March 31, 2024. He was born October 17, 1956 in Ionia the son of Thomas C. and Rita (Sonday) Mason. He attended Saranac Public Schools graduating with the Class of 1975. Stub was a member of the Saranac American Legion.

He worked as a mechanic for Klahn Farms and would later go on to drive truck for Mizkan for the last 25 years. Stub loved riding motorcycles, building his own vehicles, cutting wood (like a lumber jack) and working on other’s vehicles. He would help anyone who needed a hand.

He is survived by Vicki Warner of Saranac. Children; Travis (Sarah) Mason of Saline and Samantha (Frans) Badenhorst of Hawthorne, Florida. Grandchildren; Cora Mason, Davis Mason and Daniel Johanna. Like a son John (Lisa) Warner and their children and grandchildren. Siblings; Ed Mason, Joe Mason, Rose (Mike) Miles, Judy Woodman, Kathy (Ron) Davis, Mary (Mark) Castle and Marie (Joe) Boyd. Several Brothers and Sisters in law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Stub was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation has taken place and there will be a celebration of life at the Saranac American Legion Saturday April 6th from 2-7 p.m. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Saranac American Legion. † BAYLY Myrtle Louise Bayly age 99 of Ionia passed away April 2, 2024. She was born May 13, 1924 in Keene Twp, Ionia, MI the daughter of Jesse and Ruth Esham. Myrtle enjoyed golfing, crocheting, riding her motorcycle with her poodle Pebbles, and driving in the car. Myrtle took great pride in the vehicles she drove. She was a great cook and enthusiastic fan of the Detroit Tigers. Myrtle retired from the State of Michigan. She was a Corrections Officer at Riverside Correctional Facility on One Post. She kept our community safe and received recognition for firing a warning shot at inmates attempting to escape. She was very proud of the acknowledgement the State of Michigan gave her for this brave act. She loved her hometown of Ionia.

She is survived by her Daughter Shirley Peacock of Saranac. Grandchildren; Lindy Wiles of Florida, Todd (Kay) Peacock of South Dakota, Cindy (Gary) Lewis of Ionia, and Jim Wiles of Crystal. Great grandchildren; Jamie (Joe) Peacock-Voight, Kylie (Josh) First, Paige, Bailey, Ryan (Kailey) Lewis, Kodie (Sierra) Lewis, and Michaela Lewis. Great great grandchildren; Brant, Raegan, Dawson, Layla, Hayes, and Oakley. Several Nieces, Nephews, and cousins. Ryan, Sarah, Chloe, and London Sullivan who were Very Special Neighbors to Myrtle. Myrtle was preceded in death by her Son-In-Law Al Peacock, Cousin Robert Wright, and siblings Betty (Wayne) Inman, Patsy (Jim) Luff, Beulah Catania, Florence Wright, and Jesse (Mary) Esham. Parents Jesse (Ruth) Esham.

Funeral Services will be held at Shiloh Community Church in Orleans Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor James Floyd officiating. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the church 1 hour prior to services. Those wishing may make

Robert LeRoy Bennett age 86 of Ionia, MI passed away March 27, 2024. He was born on October 23, 1937 in Ionia to mom, Fern (Charlie) Montgomery and dad Warren (June) Bennett. Robert married Margaret Lesky on February 17, 1955 in Ionia. He worked for Ionia Hospital doing maintenance work for 25 years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed remodeling houses, doing carpentry and cement work.

Pam worked for Country Roads Upholstery, Meijer in Ionia, I-96 Speedway, L & S Pharmacy in Saranac, real estate with Troms agency and managed Saranac Café. She loved her grandkids and enjoyed watching birds, reading and meeting her friends for lunch.

John “Stub” Mason age 67 of Saranac passed away March 31, 2024. He was born October 17, 1956 in Ionia the son of Thomas C. and Rita (Sonday) Mason. He attended Saranac Public Schools graduating with the Class of 1975. Stub was a member of the Saranac American Legion. He worked as a mechanic for Klahn Farms and would later go on to drive truck for Mizkan for the last 25 years. Stub loved riding motorcycles, building his own vehicles, cutting wood (like a lumber jack) and working on other’s vehicles. He would help anyone who needed a hand. He is survived by Vicki Warner of Saranac. Children; Travis (Sarah) Mason of Saline and Samantha (Frans) Badenhorst of Hawthorne, Florida. Grandchildren; Cora Mason, Davis Mason and Daniel Johanna. Like a son John (Lisa) Warner and their children and grandchildren. Siblings; Ed Mason, Joe Mason, Rose (Mike) Miles, Judy Woodman, Kathy (Ron) Davis, Mary (Mark) Castle and Marie (Joe) Boyd. Several Brothers and Sisters in law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Stub was preceded in death by his parents.
