Adopt by majority vote a resolution of intent to approve incorporation as a charter township by resolution. At least 60 days after the adoption of the resolution of intent, the township board may adopt the resolution to incorporate as a charter township. 3. Adopt by majority vote a resolution to place before the electorate at the next regular or special township election the question of incorporation as a charter township. A township board may also choose to take no action. If Option 2 is adopted by the township board, the citizens of the township have the right to file a “Right to Referendum Petition.” This petition must be filed before the final adoption of the resolution to incorporate as a charter township. The petition must follow, in general form, the nominating petition form as prescribed in the Michigan Election Law (MCL 168.488), and the heading must indicate “Disagreement of Intent to Incorporate as a Charter Township.” The petition must be signed by not less than 10% of the number of electors of the township voting for township supervisor at the last election in which a supervisor was elected. If the petition is successful, the question of incorporation will be placed on the ballot at the next general or special township election.

Joining the Sparrow Ionia Board for three-year terms are Virgil Biggs, owner, Biggs, Dickinson, & Roberts Wealth Management Services, LLC, and John Milewski II, director of technology, Ionia County Intermediate School District. Joining for a two-year term is Brett Reich, D.O., Emergency Medicine medical director at Sparrow Eaton and Sparrow Ionia hospitals and Sparrow Ionia Medical Chief of Staff. Biggs’ areas of expertise at his wealth management firm include
personal income tax preparation, and financial and investing planning services. He participates in various charitable and civic activities and was chairman of the Sparrow Ionia Replacement Hospital Capital Campaign. He previously served on the hospital’s Board of Directors from 2012-19, and in 2016 became a member of the Sparrow Ionia Foundation Board of Directors. Biggs and his wife, Connie, have three married children, Ginger, Tammi, and Rachelle. Prior to becoming the Ionia ISD’s technology director, Milewski was Technology Operations Manager for Ionia Public Schools. Milewski is an Ionia city councilman and is involved
in several charitable and civic activities. He previously served on the Sparrow Ionia Board of Directors from 2009-19. Milewski lives in Ionia with his wife, Beth, and sons, Will, John, and James. Dr. Reich is board certified and has spent time practicing emergency medicine in Detroit, Lansing, Ionia, and Charlotte. He has been at Sparrow Ionia since 2015 and has been medical director of the Emergency Department since 2017. He is also medical director of Sparrow Ionia’s Trauma program.
