CJ Foster, age 88, of Lake Odessa, passed away Friday, February 12, 2021.
† KLINE Ellen June Kline age 82 of Matherton, MI passed away at home with her family on February 17, 2021. She was born on April 16, 1938 in Matherton the daughter of Oral and Lena (Ludwick) Reed. Ellen married Raymond Kline on September 19, 1955 in Angola, IN. Ellen was the owner and operator of Rays Tackle shop along with her husband and also worked at Woods deli in Pewamo. She loved her family, flowers and country jams at Commission on Aging. Surviving are her children Susanne (Eric) Gallagher of Matherton, Sue (John) Nilsson of Saranac, Mike (Deb) Kline of Matherton and Andy (Melissa) Kline of Crystal. Tons of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ray Kline, sister Lillian Nummer and brother Orky Reed. Visitation will be held Saturday from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia with private family services conducted by Pastor Andy Croel. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to Ionia Commission on Aging. Online condolences may be made at www.lakefuneralhomes.com † SHERWOOD Michael Gordon Sherwood, age 74, of Saranac, Michigan passed away February 12, 2021 in Grand Rapids. He was born in East Grand Rapids on March 26, 1946, the son of Gordon and Esther J. (White) Sherwood. He lived his whole life in the family home at 96 Center Street, Saranac. Shortly after graduating from Saranac High School with the class of 1965, he began working at the Keebler Company, which later became part of the Kellogg Company. Mike became known as the “Keebler Cookie Man.” Mike loved sports; he played baseball and was team manager for football, basketball and other sports while in school. He followed SHS teams avidly, attending games for many years, especially enjoying the 1990 Class C State Champion Volleyball team. He also loved music and had a large collection of records, cds and electronic media music. He traveled within the USA and to many European countries either alone or with a travel group. Mike attended Galilee Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Deanna Loucks, and his niece’s husband, Gaylord Miller. Surviving Michael are his nieces, Cindy Massengail and Kelly Miller; nephews, Jon Loucks, Kuert Loucks and Kenneth (Lisa) Loucks; and many special friends and neighbors. Special thanks to his part-time caregivers this past year: April Steele, Susie Johns, Stacy Shattuck and Mary Duncan. He also appreciated the excellent staff and the care he received over the years at Spectrum Hospital, Sparrow Hospital, Laurels of Kent and SKLD Care. Cremation has taken place at Mike’s request. A memorial service is planned for later this spring. Those wishing to do so may make memorial contributions to Saranac Fire Department, c/o Village of Saranac, 27 N. Bridge St., Saranac MI 48881. 2021 BOARD OF REVIEW Due to the current COVID-19 social distancing requirements, the BOR is not allowed to accept in-person appeals. Boston Township residents and non-resident taxpayers, wishing to appeal their tax assessment, will have two options. Appeals may be filed in writing or by participating in a virtual conference. Whether you are filing a written appeal or participating in a virtual appeal, the township must have copies of all documents and paperwork prior to the BOR meeting dates to allow for dispersal to the Board of Review Members. Letters of protest and documentation for appeals will be accepted starting Monday, March 1st and must be received by the Township Supervisor no later than Monday, March 8th at 12:00 noon. Because the Board of Review members will be in separate remote locations, working from computers, all virtual conferences will be by appointment only. If possible, we would like to schedule all virtual appeals on Monday, March 8th. The book follows Marisol, an immigrant from El Salvador applying for asylum in the United States with her younger sister Gabby. When her asylum request gets turned down, she’s given an opportunity to stay in the U.S. The twist is that she has to literally take on the grief of another girl about her age. Join our book club to find out how Marisol’s journey ends. Registration will start on Tuesday, February 23 and is limited to 10 teens.
