As we begin 2020, we’d like to reflect upon 2019 and give our thanks to those that have helped us succeed! 2019 was an incredible year for Live Local Realty! On top of helping over 200 home-buyers & sellers, we were able to donate over $23,000 back to local charities! This is an incredible feat for our small 12 person team! Not to toot our own horn, but our little company was the top real estate office in all of Ionia county for 2019!!! We attribute our success to our wonderful clients, family & friends who continue to refer business our way and also to our commitment to provide the absolute best Real Estate service in our local area. So, to those of you that continue to believe in Live Local Realty, THANK YOU! Live Local Realty started as just a simple dream of 3 independent agents. Since inception in 2013, we have grown to 12 agents and been involved in over one thousand real estate transactions. But BEST of all, we have been able to contribute over $113,000 back to local charities! We cannot thank you enough for your continued support of our little company. To those of you thinking of making a move in 2020, we’d love to show you why we continue to be a leader in our market! We look forward to working with you in 2020!
We wish each & every one of you a prosperous, safe & healthy 2020!

Traveling with pets is more popular than ever Today’s pets are increasingly on the go. Individuals and families planning to travel are increasingly choosing to take their pets along with them. A survey by the American Pet Products Association found people spent $69.51 billion on
pets in 2017. A large chunk of spending - around $6 billion - was directed toward pet accommodations and boarding. Statistics Canada says that Canadians spent more than $8 billion on pet-related items in 2017, and about half of that spending was

on veterinary and other pet services. Pet owners have options regarding pet care when leaving home for business or pleasure. Pet owners can hire pet sitters, leave the pet with a friend or family member, arrange for boarding, or bring their pets along with them. Nowadays, millions of pet owners are taking their pets with them when they travel. To meet the demand, everything from hotels to Airbnb accommodations to airlines are enabling people to bring companion animals along. Some major airports offer pet-relief areas and even Amtrak rail service recently started letting small pets on board. Certain facilities charge fees to bring pets along. Such fees typically range between $100 and $200. Some pet-friendly places even offer special perks, such as staff that takes the pets for walks when the owners are away from their rooms. The Kimpton hotel chain does not charge pet fees and also offers free pet beds, water bowls and treats, making it easy for customers to travel with their companion animals. If pets are coming along for the ride, flight or stay, pet owners should brush up on these pet travel tips. · Obtain a health certificate. Schedule a visit to the vet and have them offer a health certificate listing immunizations and the state of the pet’s health. Many airlines, hotels, pet care centers, and border crossing authorities will require such proof of pet wellness. · Research local vets. Find a vet or animal hospital near the hotel or city where you will be staying. In the event of an emergency, you’ll know where to go. · Plan for pit stops. Give pets time to stretch their legs and take

bathroom breaks. Try to take breaks every two to three hours. · Vet the transportation service. Check the train or plane policy for bringing pets along. In addition, look into the history of transporting pets, keeping an eye out for any incidents of pets being lost
or injured. · Bring a crate or carrier along. Many pets feel safe and secure in crates, and hotels or airlines may require pets be contained when unattended. So be sure to bring a crate when traveling with a pet.
· Contact the tourism board. Ask a local tourism board about local pet-friendly accommodations and restaurants. Traveling with pets allows the entire family to enjoy time away from home.
Prince & Buddy
Prince & Buddy’s owner tragically & unexpectedly passed away. These two are bonded and fantastic dogs that want to find a home together to spend the rest of their years. Prince is a neutered 6 year old Beagle mix and Buddy is a neutered 11 year old Lab. Both are potty trained and great with other dogs. Experienced around kids, but they mainly grew up in a quiet household. They are very friendly and love attention. They can be escape artists so a home with proper containment would be ideal!

LANSING, MI – Bill Roeser, recently retired President of Sparrow Carson and Sparrow Ionia hospitals, and wife Marcia, a longtime Sparrow Hospital Nurse, have received a surprise special honor in recognition of their many years of service to Sparrow, our Patients, and the community. Sparrow plans to create a pathway on the Sparrow Ionia Hospital property this year named the Bill and Marcia Roeser Walking Trail. A plaque at the start of the trail will be
installed to recognize their service. The trail was a project Bill Roeser worked on since the new Sparrow Ionia Hospital was built in 2015, as it was his wish to see the project completed as a community asset, promoting health, wellness and disease prevention for the greater Ionia community. The Roesers were stunned when the plan was announced at a reception for the couple this week. “It’s great because that’s
one of the things I’ve wanted to do,” Bill Roeser said. “It’s wonderful. I’m very grateful.” Bill Roeser retired on Jan. 3 after a nearly 17-year career at Sparrow. He has had a huge influence on Sparrow’s Community Hospitals and on maintaining the highest standards of healthcare for rural communities in Mid-Michigan. He began his career as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Sparrow Clinton Hospital, was named President and CEO of Sparrow Ionia in June 2007 and became President of both Sparrow Ionia and Sparrow Carson in April 2019. His wife, Marcia, was a well-regarded Nurse at Sparrow Hospital for 25 years, and has been in Nursing for 40 years. Linda Reetz, Sparrow Carson’s interim Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer, has been named Acting Hospital Administrative Officer/Chief Nursing Officer at Sparrow Ionia, and Mark Brisboe, current Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Sparrow Carson, Clinton and Ionia, will add Acting Hospital Administrative Officer/Chief Financial Officer at Sparrow Carson to his duties. The Sparrow Ionia Foundation is hoping to raise $30,000 through a special capital campaign to pay for a portion of the trail project. For questions or to make a donation, contact Laurie Tjalsma, Manager, Marketing and Communications, Sparrow Ionia Hospital, at Laurie.Tjalsma@sparrow.org.

Sparrow Cleft Lip & Palate Clinic receives national recognition for its work for young Patients LANSING, MI – The Sparrow Multidisciplinary Cleft Lip & Palate Clinic has received national recognition with a listing as an approved team by the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association. The listing means the Sparrow Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Team meets the gold standard for cleft care. The clinic is the only practice in Mid-Michigan to receive such recognition, a reflection of the personal commitment of Caregivers from Sparrow and the Michigan State University HealthTeam to this special population of pediatric Patients. The designation means the clinic is certified for five years as a Cross-Specialty Team and will be listed on cleftline.org for Patients searching for accredited practices. Cleft lip and palate occur in about one of every 1,000 live births and can affect speech and other functions. The clinic, which is located in the Sparrow Professional Building in Lansing, uses a team approach to respond to the needs of Patients and families,
providing expertise from social workers, dietitians, speech pathologists, psychologists, dentists, orthodontists, Nursing, and the many Physicians who volunteer their time. The recognition effort was led by Stephanie Bray, M.D., an MSU Pediatric & Craniofacial Plastic Surgeon, who works with children of all ages with cleft craniofacial conditions, and Layna Korcal, RN, CPN, a Sparrow Caregiver and the Cleft Palate Clinic Coordinator, who is instrumental in ensuring the team’s recommendations are implemented and conveyed to families. “These surgeries can completely change the way these kids interact with the world around them,” Dr. Bray said. Care for these children continues throughout their childhood, with most requiring an average of four to five surgeries. For more information about the clinic, speak to your child’s pediatrician or contact Layna Korcal, RN, CPN, at 517.364.5415.
