12/23/51 – 1/15/11

It’s been nine years now since you left, And you traveled to heaven above. Being by your side was so meaningful, For you were my first true love. I miss the special things we did, And wish that you were still here. My heart feels heavy now that you’re gone, I’m looking for a way to express my love. So I’m sending lots of hugs and kisses, On the wings of a snow-white dove. – Your Loving Husband

Notable plays in recent Super Bowl history As the annual championship game of the National Football League, the Super Bowl is one of the world’s most watched events every year. And for good reason, as the game is never short on dramatic moments. The following are a handful of the many notable plays in the recent history of the Super Bowl. · Malcolm Butler’s interception, Super Bowl XLIX, February

1, 2015: An epic battle between the reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots effectively ended when one of the most questionable play calls in NFL history resulted in a goal-line interception by Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler. With just 26 seconds to go and trailing 28-24, Seattle decided to pass the ball from

New England’s 1-yard line. The more conventional play call would have been to hand the ball off to running back Marshawn Lynch, who had already scored a touchdown and run for more than 100 yards in the game. But Seattle chose to pass, and Russell Wilson’s throw was intercepted, resulting in the Patriots winning their first Super Bowl in a decade. · David Tyree’s catch, Super Bowl XLII, February 3, 2008: It’s fitting that this Super Bowl is widely regarded as one of the greatest upsets in Super Bowl history, as it also featured one of the most unlikely heroes in the sport’s history. With his team trailing the New England Patriots 14-10 late in the fourth quarter, New York Giant David Tyree, a little-used wide receiver and special teams stalwart, made a miraculous catch on third down, leaping into the air and pinning the ball to his helmet. That 32-yard reception kept the eventual game-winning drive alive. The loss would mark the Patriots’ only defeat of the season. · Mike Jones’ tackle, Super Bowl XXXIV, January 30, 2000: A thrilling affair that featured a 16-point comeback from the Tennessee Titans, Super Bowl XXXIV came down to the final play of the game. With just six seconds remaining, the Titans trailed the St. Louis Rams 23-16 but had the ball at the Rams’ 10-yard line. Titans quarterback Steve McNair completed a pass to wide receiver Kevin Dyson, only to see Rams linebacker Mike Jones tackle Dyson at the 1-yard line as time expired, stopping another Titans comeback and earning the Rams their first Super Bowl victory. · James White’s touchdown run, Super Bowl LI, February 5, 2017: While the moment itself may not be as amazing as other Super Bowl plays, it remains among the most memorable for what it represented. Trailing the Atlanta Falcons 28-3 midway through the third quarter, the New England Patriots were written off by viewers across the globe. But those eulogies proved premature, as the Patriots orchestrated the largest comeback in Super Bowl history, culminating with White’s 2-yard overtime scamper into the end zone to seal the victory for New England.

What’s the purpose behind a leap year?

February is known for many things, one of which is being the shortest month of the year. Many people do not give much thought to whether or not February has 28 or 29 days. But February bears the unique distinction of being the only month on the calendar that does not always have the same number of days.

Known as a “leap day,” the 29th day of February helps to synchronize the calendar to Earth’s orbit. According to EarthSky, which reports on astronomy and other cosmos-related information, Earth’s orbit around the sun

takes approximately 365.25 days. That extra .25 creates a need for a leap year every four years; otherwise, the calendar, which is faster than the actual solar year), would drift from what is actually occurring with the orbit. After four years, it would be off by one day, or 25 days after 100 years. If no corrections were made to the calendar, the seasons might become misaligned. After 300 years, January 1 would arrive in autumn. Julius Caesar, at the advice of Sosigenes, an Alexandrian astronomer, was responsible for adding a leap day to February to compensate for Earth’s rotation after the original Roman calendar kept slipping out of alignment. During his reign, Caesar first implemented a 445-day calendar year in 46 BCE to bring the calendar back into alignment. Roman officials called it annus confusionis. To limit future headaches, the work-around was to simply add a leap day to February once every four years. The Julian calendar wasn’t exact to the solar year, but it was much closer than the previous Roman calendar. The Gregorian calendar, revised by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582, further adapted the calendar and the leap days. Recently diagnosed with LUNG CANCER and 60+ years old? Call now! All leap years are divisible by four. That is why 2020 will include a leap day on February 29. People can utilize the extra day in 2020 (yes, 2020 is a leap year) in various fun ways. In addition to learning more about leap years and astronomy, try these entertaining ideas. · Take a day off of work and spend it relaxing or engaging in a favorite hobby. · Be reminded that leap years also coincide with U.S. Presidential elections, and it will soon be time to vote. · Check out the celebrities who were born on February 29 and only get a true birthday every four years. Rapper Ja Rule, motivational speaker Tony Robbins, actor Antonio Sabato, Jr., swimmer Jessica Long, and football player Eric Kendricks are some of the notable people born on February 29. · Buy a gift for yourself or others on leap day and make it a tradition of going the extra mile to love and pamper. · Realign your life like the calendar is being realigned by focusing on organization or personal finances. Leap year has arrived, and that extra day can be put to good use in various ways.

Secretary of State offices to close for Martin Luther King Jr. holiday

Customers encouraged to use online services at ExpressSOS.com LANSING – Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson reminds residents that all Secretary of State offices and the Office of the Great Seal will be closed Monday, Jan. 20, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Most license plate types can be ordered or renewed online at ExpressSOS.com. Registrations for vehicles, motorcycles, snowmobiles or boats may be printed when renewing online, allowing motorists to drive legally until they get their plate and tab in the mail. Most driver’s licenses and state ID cards also may be renewed online unless a trip to a branch office is required, as is the case to upgrade to a REAL ID license or state ID. Additionally, customers may order a duplicate registration or title, change their address and register to be an organ donor on the website. The Department of State mails notices to motorists

45 days before their driver’s license or license plates expire to give them ample time to renew. Licenses and plates that expire on a day when state offices are closed, such as a holiday or weekend, can be renewed the following business day without penalty. License plate tabs also can be renewed at self-service stations, many of which are available around the clock. Visit the Branch Office Locator to find a Secretary of State kiosk near you. With the exception of holidays, offices are open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Smaller offices may close for the lunch hour. On Wednesdays, offices are open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. A few branch offices offer Saturday hours from 9 a.m. to noon. Check the Branch Office Locator at Michigan. gov/SOS for complete hours and services.
