Boston-Saranac Historical Society

HAVE YOU EVER wondered why it is that the Saranac Depot (Saranac, MI) is home of the Boston-Saranac Historical Society? First inclination would be to believe that it was named for Boston Township, home of the village of Saranac.

Upon closer inspection you would learn that when first settled in 1836, the area now known as Saranac was little more than a landing spot where Lake Creek flowed into the Grand River. In 1851, the community leaders renamed the village “Boston” but changed it back to “Saranac” in 1859 – ten (10) years before it

was incorporated as the Village of Saranac, in 1869.

In October of 1984, several residents of Saranac interested in organizing a historical society met and by January 14th, 1985, their first official meeting was held. The name “Boston-Saranac Historical Society” was chosen to represent both names used by the Village in its early years.

The Society is dedicated to preserving the Boston-Saranac area history and to inform residents of local historical facts so future generations will take pride and interest in our community.

Lloyd was Clarksville, MI passed away December 19, 2021. He was born born July 28, 1957 in Grosse Pointe, MI to Lloyd O. and Beverly L. on January 15, 1957 in Ionia the son of Lloyd and Evelyn (Wright) (Bridgewater) Corston. Lloyd was a lifelong Military man retiring in Mutschler.

2016 after 34 years of service including a tour in Iraq. He referred Lloyd married Robbie Mills on November 8, 1974. He enjoyed to himself as a “Turbine Engine Doctor”, after working on them having coffee with the guys. for 39 years. On June 26, 1982 he married Linda Rowe and she Surviving are his loving wife of 47 years Robbie Mutschler of survives. Lloyd loved restoring classic cars, boating, and hunting.

New Year’s Eve recovery tips

New Year’s Eve often marks the culmination of a season of celebration. Part of the fun of New Year’s Eve gatherings is letting loose and partying into the wee hours of the morning — which also marks the first day of the new year. The saying “go big or go home” is never more appropriate than on New Year’s Eve, when the festive atmosphere can compel people to stay up a little later than they otherwise would. Waking up hours later tired and lacking motivation is not uncommon on New Year’s Day. Fortunately, there are various ways for individuals who burn the midnight oil on New Year’s Eve to feel better on January 1.

• Take a nap. Too little sleep can make you feel grouchy and out of sorts. Sleep debt occurs after lack of sleep adds up consecutively, and Harvard Medical School says it occurs when you fail to get 6 to 9 hours of sleep each night, which is a common occurrence during the busy holiday season. Making time for a nap can be a great way to feel better on January 1.

• Drink plenty of water. Rehydrating after a night of celebration can help individuals overcome the overindulgence of the previous night.

• Enjoy a soothing cup of tea.

Rich foods and desserts may wreak havoc on your digestive system. A cup of chamomile tea can have anti-inflammatory effects and also settle your gastrointestinal system. Add a little ginger for even more stomach-smoothing properties.

• Look to caffeine as a pickme-up. While you shouldn’t go overboard with caffeinated products, a cup of coffee can chase away cobwebs in your head and sluggishness. Caffeine can help you be more alert and improve reaction times, according to Healthline.

• Eat light. Go lighter on meals for a few days to start to detoxify the body from the heavy, calorie-laden meals that mark the holiday season. Lean toward meals that are heavy on vegetables and whole grains.
