† CHICKERING Marjorie L. Chickering 94 of Fenwick passed away Saturday Novem ber 12, 2022 at Midland Hospital in Midland. Marjorie was born on October 21, 1928 in Ionia, the daughter of Samuel and Karen ( Christiansen) Nielsen. She graduated from Ionia High School with Class of 1947, had a lifelong enjoyment with antiques and enjoyed wintering in Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, two brothers, Kenneth, Carlton and three sisters, Marguerite, Mattie and Dorothy.

Marjorie is survived by her children, George ( Linda) Chickering of Belding, Vicki Chickering, DVM of Rhodes, her grandchildren, Jessie ( Jane) Chickering, Nik Chickering, and four great grandchildren. In keeping with her wishes’ cremation has taken place and no public service will be held. Cremation services were entrusted to Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. † FOCO Our beloved son Brent Allen Foco passed away at his home in Greenville on November 20, 2022, at the age of 34. He had a very rare cancer that he battled since April of 2021.

Brent maintained his dignity, sense of humor, wittiness, and kind ness up until his last days. His courage was and is inspiring to all who loved him. The courage he showed will help all of us through this heartbreaking loss.

Brent loved spending time with his friends and family. He had a love for playing video games and kayaking. During this past year he developed an interest in lego building, which turned into a sizable collection. One of his favorites is a 9000 piece Titanic ship. We are so grateful for his girlfriend Jessica, who cared for him and never left his side. Without her and the wonderful hospice team Brent would not have been able to stay in his home as he wished.

Left to cherish Brent’s memories are his parents Brian and DeAnna (Fox) Foco, his brother Jeff Foco and Lily Sims, all of Ionia, best friends Kyle Pollock and James McGraw, Jessica Velchansky (the love of his life), and his long-time companion Ripley (a very mean cat), and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Brent was preceded in death by his grandparents Merlin and Diana Fox, Don & Judy McEachern, and Fred and Jane Foco.

Brent will be cherished in our hearts forever.

Funeral care has been entrusted to Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. A private service will take place in the near future. Internment will be in North Plains Cemetery, Muir. Memorials may be given to the Humane Society of Montcalm County. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. 9TH YEAR OF TREASURES FOR TROOPS A SUCCESS!

It's year number nine for “Treasures for Troops” col lecting items on behalf of Blue Star Mothers Chapter #188 of Ionia, Montcalm, and Kent Counties, and WION is proud of the results!

WION's broadcast week was November 14th through 18th with broadcasts from the Village Market of Muir, Young Chevrolet-Buick-GMC of Ionia, and the Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce. The results are amazing! Even after the past two years of Covid, and this year's unimpressive eco nomic conditions, The Blue Star Mothers and volunteers met on Sunday November 20th...then sorted, boxed and prepared 233 boxes to go to deployed Servicemen and Women in all branches of our country's military!

Boxes are packed with donations collected in this yearly event, and include letters, cards, and notes from Saranac, Ionia, Lowell stu dents, Ionia area residents, and others.

The Ionia Moose lodge once again hosted the stor age, sorting, and boxing of donations, which were then prepared for mailing from the Saranac Post Office. Young Chevrolet, Buick, GMC was once again our sponsor, as they have been each year of

the drive.

233 boxes are going out to active military members deployed far from home. The boxes will be a surprise to most recipients, however some addresses were provid ed to the Blue Star Mothers by families and friends of the deployed.

Major donations for postage were received from Reurink Roofing & Siding Sales of Ionia, and Herbruck's of Ionia, with many individual monetary donations from WION listeners, advertisers, and the public in Ionia and Kent Counties. Once again Lowell High School Radio WRWW-92.3FM and Lowell Schools contributed to the drive! Special thanks goes to the Lakewood United Meth odist Church Youth Group of Lake Odessa who held their yearly special drive for our project and donated what was for them a RECORD amount of items during the boxing on Sunday the 20th.
