† LEVERING Jerrie Lynn (McCartney) Levering passed away Wednesday October 14th at the age of 71. Jerrie was born August 15th 1949 to Arthur and Patricia (Johnston) McCartney. Jerrie was preceded in death by her Father Arthur, mother Patricia, two brothers Richard McCartney and Loren Challendar and sister Beni Stair. She is survived by her son Jim (Marci) Levering of Lake Odessa and her daughter Nikki (John) Levering of Ionia, her four grandsons Tyler (Tink) Levering, Ryan Levering, Machally Schafer and JC Schafer, two sisters Keri (McCartney) Hayes and Penny Challendar. Jerrie was surrounded by family in her final hours. Jerrie will be missed by all who knew and loved her. There will be a luncheon in memory of Jerrie Sunday November 1st from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The luncheon will be held at the Loft in Lake Odessa, Mi (1037 4th Ave). Maria married Roberto Martinez August 22, 1970 in Orleans, Michigan.

She was an active member of S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ionia. Maria loved music and dancing as well as shopping and traveling. She absolutely adored her grandchildren and spending time with her family.

Surviving are her husband Roberto Martinez of Ionia. Sons; Roberto (Ann) Martinez Jr. of Ionia and Michael (Sarah) Martinez of Grand Rapids. Grandchildren; Ashley (Dustin) Switzer of Portland, GraceMarie Martinez, Ayva Martinez, Christian Martinez, Mallory Martinez and Michael David Martinez. Great grandchildren; Willow and Scotlyn Switzer. Siblings Cruz(Francisco) Escojido of Lansing, Maria Luisa (Genaro)Lam of Lansing, Ramona (Antonio) Martinez of Ionia, Vicente (Rosa) Landeros of Lansing and Oralia (Juan) Claudio of Ionia.

For deer hunters in the Tri-County region, CWD testing may be on their minds as they begin to fill their freezers with venison.

In Kent, Ionia, and Montcalm counties, hunters may submit their deer for free CWD testing at DNR check stations from November 15-18 only; outside of this time frame, hunters are still able to submit their deer for CWD testing for a fee by pulling appropriate tissue samples and submitting the sample to a USDA-approved laboratory. To help make testing more convenient and less cost prohibitive for hunters, MSU Extension staff and QDMA Branch volunteers will be hosting CWD Testing Sample Collection Sites throughout November. Samples will be delivered to the Michigan State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. Hunters can find instructions, order and pay for testing, and find resources for lymph node collection at https://animalhealth.msu.edu.

All hunters are welcome and encouraged to bring their deer to testing collection sites to receive help collecting the appropriate tissue samples and submit those samples for CWD testing regardless of where the deer was harvested. The CDC recommends that individuals not eat venison from deer that have tested positive for CWD. Before visiting a collection site to submit a sample: • Order and pay for your CWD test online at https:// animalhealth.msu.edu by clicking on CWD Testing for Michigan Hunters. When filling out the information, select “I will bring the specimen to MSU VDL Building”.

Be sure to print off a copy of your receipt to include with your sample.

Then, • Bring any legally tagged whole deer, deer heads, or already extracted lymph nodes to the collection site.

If your deer was harvested prior to the collection day, freeze the lymph nodes or head to preserve the tissue so that it’s suitable for testing.

• Submitted samples will be properly packaged with the individual CWD test order receipt, kept frozen and transported to the Michigan State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.
