Lawrence Witzel Northrup aged 90 of Ionia passed away March 4, 2020. He was born July 16, 1929 in Ionia the son of Otto and Dalta (Witzel) Northrup. Larry married Ilene Smith who later preceded him in death. He worked several jobs over his years driving truck for the Ionia County Road Commission, Inmate Supervisor for Bertha Brock Park, SS Peter & Paul as Cemetery Sexton in the summer and at the school in the winter. His favorite job was Nighttime Security Supervisor for the Ionia County Free Fair. Larry was a member of SS Peter & Paul. He was always positive and selfless reaching out to those in need giving him countless friends over his lifetime. Surviving are 4 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Many Nieces and Nephews that he loved as his own. Preceding Larry in death were his parents, Otto & Dalta Northrup, wife Ilene, step son Dan Smith, granddaughter Michelle, Brothers; John (Marie), Richard (Betty) and James (Rosemary). Sisters; Margaret (Paul) Kukielka, Mary Ellen (Julius) Jeffery and Beatrice Davis. Cremation has taken place and there will be Graveside Services 1:00 pm, Thursday, July 16th, at Balcom Cemetery. Robert Wayne Zander aged 83 of Saranac passed away June 30, 2020. He was born February 23, 1937 in Ionia at his grandparents’ home the son of Wayne H. and Ethel I. (Seybold) Zander. Bob graduated from Ionia Highschool class of 1955. He would marry the girl across the street the former Patricia Reed in December of 1964. Bob began working for the Sentinel Standard at the age of 12 as a paper boy, he continued there in various positions for over 50 years ultimately retiring as a Production Manager. Bob served his country in the Army during the Vietnam Era. Surviving is his loving wife of 55 years Patricia Zander of Saranac. Children; Rebecca (Keith) Merwin of Battle Creek, Daniel Zander (Barbara Barry) of Frederick, MD. Grandchildren; Max Owen Hudson Zander and Kathryn Lily Zander. Sister Charlene Kingsley. Nieces and Nephews Jill (Ron) Baird, Lisa (Tony) Cunningham, John (Sue) Kingsley and Tim Kingsley. Great nieces and nephews Elizabeth Kingsley, John (Clarice) Kingsley, Tyler Cunningham and Nathan (Jason) DeLong. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother in law Jud Kingsley. Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 6, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Ionia with Pastor Jonathan Bratt Carle officiating. Interment Balcom Cemetery. Patricia Ann (BRADBURY) ZurHorst, age 70, went to be with her Lord on June 16, 2020, in Las Vegas , Nevada. Pat was born to Edwin and Agnes Bradbury on April 14, 1950. She was a dietician for over 40 years and her greatest love was cooking for friend’s and family. Pat is survived by her husband Carl of 50 years, and 2 children, Carl Shane ZurHorst, and Tricia Millwood, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Pat also leaves behind 6 siblings, Jean Sherman, Fran Maybee, Theresa Green, Laura Johnson, George Bradbury, and Ben Bradbury.Pat was proceeded in death by her parents Edwin and Agnes Bradbury, and a brother John Bradbury. June 28, 2020 – I have been asked to share my viewpoint about the proposed surcharge increase for Ionia Counties 911 which would begin July 1st, 2021. As a former Corrections Officer & Security guard I have had the opportunity to see first hand how valuable all the 911 departments are. I have also witnessed their importance, professionalism & skill in public at sporting events, residences & other venues. Ionia County 911 is the only emergency 911 answering point in Ionia County, and the only dispatch service for police, fire, medical first responder, and ambulance service. Equipment and technology to provide a 911 service is very costly to implement, maintain, and operate. 911 funding comes from local and state surcharge fees assessed on devices that can contact 911. They don't receive any funding from any other sources besides surcharge. Currently the local surcharge brings in close to 85% of the operating funds, which is $2.30 per month on landlines, cellular phones, and VOIP telephone systems. Almost 15% comes from the State of Michigan shared surcharge. 1% of the funding comes from State share Dispatcher training money. The surcharges pay for the operations of Ionia County 911 which includes all personnel costs, utilities, computers and servers, rent, equipment, maintenance/ support, insurances, telephone services, equipment

updates/replacements etc. new technology, and state of the art services such as Smart911 and Text to 911. Personally, I have contacted 911 on many occasions, the 911 operators have always been very knowledgeable, calm, and helpful every time. Lives have been saved, property damage has been curtailed by hundreds of thousands of dollars. Injuries have been treated rapidly and efficiently, during nearly all these encounters I've had with Ionia County 911. It's hard to put a price tag on these services and protections provided. As a Husband, Father, Grandfather and individual member of the community I fully support the proposed increase of .70¢ per device on the August 4th ballot. The proposed projects (if passed), include: replacing county fire department radios for full interoperability with county and ambulance services, replacing the 20-year-old backup generator. Modernizing dispatch console positions, including cable management floor. The proposed increase will allow Ionia County 911 to continue to provide State of the Art E911 dispatching services to the Citizens of Ionia County for many years to come. School Board Petitions Available Saranac Community School district residents will be voting for four Board of Education members on November 3, 2020. The Detroit Pistons announced today that the club is partnering with the Michigan Secretary of State’s office on a series of initiatives to drive voter awareness and participation in the upcoming August and November elections. Sparrow Ionia Hospital, Ionia County Health Department to COVID-19 testing event in Belding IONIA, MI – Sparrow Ionia Hospital and the Ionia County Health Department are combining to offer COVID-19 nasal swab testing in Belding. The testing will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, at Belding High School, 850 Hall Street, Belding and addresses the need for increased testing in the county. Patients will be able to attend without having a physician’s order in advance. No money will be collected on-site. Sparrow will bill patients later and has options

in place for those who cannot afford the test. A nasal swab (or PCR) test determines whether or not you have an active COVID-19 infection at the time the sample is collected. It’s a molecular test that is reviewed at Sparrow Laboratories and results are usually available within 48 hours. “Sparrow Ionia Hospital has been working collaboratively with the Ionia County Health Department to ensure the health and safety of our community,” said Linda Reetz, Sparrow Ionia
