† HUBBARD Pauline “Peg” Hubbard age 92 of Ionia formerly of Saranac passed away Surrounded by her family May 30,

2022. Peg was born November 27, 1929 in Ionia the daughter of Frank and Emma (Endres) O’Mara. She graduated from Lake Odessa Highschool with the Class of 1947 and went on to attend County Normal. Peg married Kenneth Hubbard August 20, 1949 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Lake Odessa. He preceded her in death February 4, 2017. Together they raised five children. Surviving are her children; Gary (Brenda) Hubbard of Saranac, Judy (Joe) Stuck of Saranac, Marilyn (Ross) Walhout of Grand Haven, John (Cathy) Hubbard of Jenison and Diane (Scott) Boeskool of Belmont. 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Brother Eugene O’Mara of Ionia, Sister Rosemary Hickey of Lake Odessa and Sister-in-law Ruth O’Mara. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth, 2 brothers and 1 sister. Peg enjoyed traveling with her husband to Hawaii, Spain, Greece, Austria, Paris, Czechoslovakia, Alaska and also spent many Winters at Gulf Shores, Alabama. She worked as a teacher for many years at Saranac Public Schools. Peg also taught 4H sewing. She was an incredible seamstress and also enjoyed golfing, reading, cooking, baking, shopping and had a soft spot for fireball whiskey. She along with her husband Ken were founding members of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Saranac. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, June 9th, 11:00 a.m at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church with Father Tom Brown presiding. Visitation will be at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia on Wednesday 4-7 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to Kindred Hospice. † IRWIN Stacey Rae Irwin was born to Donald “Donny” Irwin and Donna Cody, in Grand Rapids Michigan on April 30, 1980. She was well known by the residents of her hometown of Saranac and the neighboring cities of Lowell and Ionia. Stacey was a graduate of Saranac High School, Class of 1999. She had a love for helping others, playing Bingo and hunting for hidden treasures at local garage sales and second hand stores. When she was not treasure hunting she could be found spending time with her loved ones; especially her daughter and grandchildren. Stacey was a proud grandmother who loved to join in on movie dates and fun trips to McDonalds for impromptu shakes and chicken nuggets. From an early age, Stacey was diagnosed with brain cancer. She bravely fought and won the battle in 1999 and went on to be a supporter of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life along-side her mother who was also a cancer survivor. In 2021, Stacey was diagnosed with another brain tumor and underwent treatments; however on May 29, 2022 she experienced a severe brain bleed ultimately leading to her passing on May 30, 2022. Stacey is survived by her immediate family; father Donald Irwin, mother Donna Cody, brother Casey Irwin, sister Shawna Pierce, daughter Alexis Osmolinski “French”, son in law Michael Osmolinski, and grandchildren, Aaliyuh Swinehart, Grayson Osmolinski and Lincoln Osmolinski. Visitation will be held at Lake Funeral Home in Saranac, Tuesday June 7, from 10-3 with service following at Saranac Cemetery. Those wishing may make memorial donations to the Ionia County Animal Shelter. † MASON On May 24, 2022, Gerald Eugene Mason of Green Acres in Lowell, formerly of

the field with a team of horses. Growing up during The Great Depression taught Jerry to be a very resourceful person, and provided him the experience to repair or build almost anything as needed. After attending Dorr School, he quit to work at local farms and various jobs to help support his family. With the Korean War in action, Jerry volunteered to serve his country and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951 and served until 1954, being honorably discharged as a sergeant. After enlistment, he was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, received his training at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland, and then boarded a ship for active duty in Korea to serve in the 2nd Infantry Division. While serving in the Korean War, he mastered the art of weapon repair. After his Army tour of duty, he returned to Belding to marry the love of his life, Alice Coates, on May 28, 1955; a marriage that would last 50 years until her death in 2005. Together they raised three daughters in a little home he built with the assistance of his father, Charles, and father-in-law, Elmer Coates. During the early years of his marriage, Jerry worked for Nelson’s Welcome Orchard in Ionia where he developed a passion for growing apple trees. After leaving Nelson’s, he pursued a career as a professional truck driver, earning his certificate from Lansing Community College. In 1968, Jerry commenced work at Indian Summer in Belding and retired in 1998 after 30 years of employment. Jerry had many talents and interests in life but his passion was his music. When he was 15, his mother enrolled him in Hager’s Schools of Music where he learned to play the steel guitar. From these music lessons, Jerry gained an early appreciation for music, which would continue and grow throughout the remainder of his life. For many years, he would accompany local musicians to perform at various gatherings throughout Michigan. It was during these musical events he would meet many wonderful people that would become lifelong friends. When potluck dinners were included, Jerry was sure to bring along a homemade apple pie featuring the fruit from his well-maintained apple trees. A memorable characteristic of Jerry is that he had a sense of responsibility. Without hesitation, he would assist a family member, friend, neighbor or stranger in need of help at any time, day or night. He also loved to visit with family and friends and was quick to share stories of his many life experiences and memories. Thus, “a short visit” with someone was never really short. Preceding Jerry in death were his parents, his beloved wife, Alice, and his eldest daughter, Linda. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Ilah, Orville, Roy, Laura, Thomas, Alfred, Nancy, Herbert, Marian, Dorman and James, several nieces and nephews and relatives-in-law. Surviving Jerry to remember him with love are his daughters, Audrey (Steve) Ackerson of Benton Harbor, Michigan and Tina (Jeff) Williams of South Bend, Indiana; grandson, Trey, great-granddaughter, Ozlynn; sister, Janette Neilson-Phillips; brotherin-law, Gordon (Barb) Coates; many dear nieces and nephews and many special friends that have shared in his journey through life. A Memorial Service will be conducted at Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich Street, Ionia, on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. by Pastor Kendall Harger, with a graveside service following at Greene Cemetery on Johnson Road, Belding. Visitation with the family will commence one hour prior the memorial service. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation for the loving care and attention provided by Jody, Nancy, and all of the caregivers at Green Acres in Lowell and Kindred Hospice of Grand Rapids. March 14, 1933 h June 4, 2021 She lived life to the fullest, she was involved in many things over the years, camping, square dancing, snowmobiling, ice skating (even at 50+ years old), horseback riding (at 70+ years old), country dancing well into her 80’s, kayaking on Lake Huron at 85+ years old. She volunteered at the Commission on Aging and helped at 4H Horse Shows. She loved to travel... she made it to all but 3 of the 50 states and went to Ireland. She was lots of fun and loved to laugh. Even when she came home with hospice, she was joking and laughing. She is missed by many. She was a special person! Miss you so much! Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, “Wow! What a ride!” –She loved this!
