† STALTER Lyle Emerson Stalter, 85, of Clarksville passed away at his home surrounded by his family on May 5, 2020. Lyle was born on December 2, 1934 in Lake Odessa to Emerson and Frances (Batchelor) Stalter. He was an avid trap shooter, competing and earning many awards (MUCC State Shoot, 1970 Champion Team and 1996 High Gun Award amongst others). Lyle worked at Diamond Reo in Lansing building semi-trucks, and Snyder’s Farm Services repairing tractors and combines. He was an avid NASCAR fan and known for his vegetable garden and love of farming and old tractors. He will be dearly missed by children: Phillip Stalter, Laurie (Jim) Overbeck, Donna (Dave) Quillan, Alan (Kim) Stalter, and Brenda Stalter; grandchildren: Nathaniel (Katy) Stalter, Rhianna (Matt) Misner, Wendy (Keith Dunham) Overbeck, Shannon (Chad) Perkins, Jeremy (Louise) Overbeck, Lindsey (Eric) Possehn, Andy (Jessica) Quillan, Thomas (Abby) Stalter, Jamie (Noah Grawburg) Stalter, Katherine and Lizzy Wilcox; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings: Larry Stalter, Dale (Margaret) Stalter, and Carole (Dave) Emory; in-laws: Charlie Stiles and Dale ‘Butch’ (Carole) Stiles. Ionia Township Regular Board Meeting May 12, 2020

Meeting called to order by supervisor Kurt Scheurer. Present: Scheurer, Higbee, Harp, Lynn, and Hanulcik ( via phone) Pledge of Allegiance recited. Minutes approved as read. Treasurer's report approved as read. Motion by Hanulcik and supported by Lynn to pay this month's bills on hand. Motion passed. Guest Larry Listerman spoke briefly about the ICE detention facility. Sparrow offers COVID-19 antibody testing to the general public LANSING, MI – Sparrow Health System, a nationwide leader with some of the most advanced COVID-19 testing in the country, is making antibody testing available to the general public. Antibody testing is now available at Sparrow Laboratory Service Centers. (See attached list of sites, although note that the MAC and Medical Arts Building blood draw sites will soon be closing.) The antibody test used by Sparrow is approved by the FDA and has been validated. Antibody testing is a blood test that detects if you have developed antibodies to the COVID-19 virus. The test does not check for the actual virus but recognizes if you’ve had COVID-19 in the past. Insurance is accepted. The cost is $50 for those without insurance. Results will be sent to the MySparrow patient portal. If you have not signed up for MySparrow, contact Sparrow Laboratories at 517.371.9500 for assistance. Sparrow Laboratories operates 24/7 but the turnaround time for results will depend on demand. If demand is normal, results will be available within 72 hours. A positive antibody test indicates that you were likely exposed to COVID-19, and your immune system responded to that exposure at some time in the past. We do not know if antibodies that result from COVID-19 exposure or infection can protect someone from reinfection.

Regardless of the results of the antibody test, everyone should continue to protect themselves by social distancing, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, and frequently washing their hands. Diagnostic testing (nasal swab) is available and recommended for anyone who is experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19. If you feel sick or are experiencing symptoms contact your physician or be screened by calling Sparrow’s COVID-19 Hotline at 877.205.1300. Sparrow recently expanded access to COVID-19 nasal swab testing for the general public, including essential employees in order to protect co-workers and customers. Sparrow also offers COVID-19 testing to employers who contract with Sparrow Occupational Health. Those workers may include employees returning to work at grocery stores, gas stations, pharmacies and newly reopened big box stores. Contact your employer to get tested. Employers wanting more information can contact Sparrow Occupational Health at 517.364.3900. Sparrow is responding to a vital community need because as employees return to work and the stay-at-home order expires, there will be at a higher risk of exposure. How do we “glorify God?” I Corinthians 6: 19, 20 states, “For you are bought with a price; therefore GLORIFY God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” Romans 12:1 states, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” I Corinthians 10:31 says, “Whatever therefore you EAT, or DRINK, or whatever you DO, do all to the GLORY of God.” How did Daniel glorify God? Daniel 1 :8 says that Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not DEFILE himself with the king’s food, or his wine. Daniel 1 :12 says that Daniel ate vegetables and drank water. Why did Daniel refuse the king’s food? Leviticus 20:25 gives us a clue. “You sha11 therefore put difference between clean beasts and unclean... and you shall not make your souls abominable by beast... or by any manner of living thing... which I have separated from you as unclean. And you shall be holy unto me: for I the LORD am holy.” Leviticus 11:2-8 tells us the dogs, rabbits, camels, and pigs are unclean and unfit to eat. Leviticus 11 :9-12 tells us that all in the waters that don’t have fins and scales are mentioned as an abomination four times. It may be a surprise to know that in Genesis 1:29,30 God gave fruits, nuts, and herbs for man, beast, and insect alike. Nothing ate each other. In heaven there will be no death of man nor beast. When God brought the flood, Genesis 7:2 states, “Of every clean beast you shall take to you be SEVENS ... and of the beasts that are not clean by TWO, the male and his female.” So after the flood, clean animals were given for sacrifice and food. Well, wasn’t this done away with at the cross? What? Nasty, unclean food was now made clean because Jesus died on the cross for your sins? Look at Isaiah 66:15-17 - “For behold the Lord will come with fire ... and the slain of the Lord shall be many. They that purify themselves ... eating swine’s flesh, and the abomination (unclean seafood) and the mouse shall be consumed together, saith the Lord.” When Jesus comes the second time, He will destroy those eating unclean food. Many overlook Acts 15:19-21 which states that the Gentiles who come to Christ should not eat things strangled or with blood in them. Acts 15:28, 29 says the Holy Spirit also says it is a NECESSARY thing to not eat blood and things strangled. Leviticus 3:17 states. “It shall be a perpetual statute for your generations throughout all your dwellings, that you eat neither fat nor blood.” Isaiah 65:2-6 tells us that those who eat swine’s flesh and the broth of abominable things (unc1ean seafood) is in their vessels provoke Him to anger and are a smoke in His nose, a fire that burn all the day, who say, “I am holier than you.” Many preachers and priests and pastors will tell you that it is okay to eat anything you want and as much as you want. But Philippians 3:18, 19 states. “They are the enemies of the cross of Christ, whose end is destruction, whose God is their BELLY, whose GLORY is in their SHAME.” Romans 16:18 adds, “For that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own BELLY; and by GOOD works, and FAIR speeches DECEIVE the hearts of the simple.” Do I need speak on alcohol and drugs and holy living? I Corinthians 6:9J0 states, “Be not DECEIVED: neither fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, effeminate, homosexuals, nor drunkards shall inherit the kingdom of God.” But there is hope, ‘”But you are washed, but you are sanctified, but you are justified in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by the Spirit of our God. Let’s give God the glory by what we eat, drink, and do in our lives to have physical restoration in us to prepare for His second coming. Next time-Part three of the first angel’s message- “Worship Him that made the heavens, the earth, and the fountains of waters.” God guide you in all things and may you prosper and be in good health.

ICCF ADVISORY BOARD NAMES PATRICK AS NEWEST MEMBER The Ionia County Community Foundation welcomes Mary Patrick as the newest member of the Advisory Board. After growing up in Westphalia, Michigan, she has called Ionia home for more than 35 years. Now retired, Mary is enjoying spending her days and energy in Ionia. “Because I spent nearly my entire work life in Lansing, I was probably more aware of the things that were going on in that community than my own. I knew this was where I wanted to raise my family.” Mary loved being part of the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School when her children were students there, and especially enjoyed working on the school fundraising auctions each year. “Now that I’m retired, I have the time to re-immerse myself in Ionia and Ionia County. I’ve always loved the County’s mix of small towns and farms, and it’s been fun for me to see all that goes on here each day, what the needs are, and how volunteers work to meet those needs. I remember when the Foundation was started so it’s exciting to become part of it in a milestone year.” Mary’s career spanned over 40 years within State of Michigan departments that included Education, Corrections, and Natural Resources, where her last years were spent with the Michigan History Center. There she managed the Michigan Historical Marker Program and worked with both the Michigan Freedom Trail Commission (Underground Railroad) and the Michigan Historical Commission.

Mary is married to Michael Donaldson and they enjoy traveling at any opportunity. They have four grown children: daughter, Kasey Patrick of Ionia; sons Christopher Donaldson and wife Katherine of Carlisle, England; Kevin Donaldson and wife Madie of Pittsburgh, PA; and, Robert Patrick, III, of Royal Oak, Michigan. Welcoming the newest ICCF Advisory Board member, ICCF President Jim McCarty said, “We are very pleased to welcome Mary Patrick to our Ionia County Community Foundation Advisory Committee Board. Rep. Calley: Legislature fights to ensure people’s voices are represented in state’s COVID-19 response

Lawsuit asks court to intervene, restore representative democracy State Rep. Julie Calley said the Legislature this week continued its work to ensure voices of people all throughout Michigan are considered as the state continues to respond to COVID-19 by seeking intervention from the Court of Claims. Calley, of Portland, said the Legislature filed the lawsuit against Gov. Gretchen Whitmer because she refuses to recognize that her unchecked emergency powers must come to an end. She said the lawsuit was an unfortunate but necessary step the Legislature must take to ensure the people of Michigan are represented in the decisions being made as the fight against COVID-19 continues and the state begins to safely reopen. “The people of Michigan deserve to have their voices considered as the state continues its response to COVID-19 – and the best way to accomplish that is through legislators, who serve as a direct link to the people in their communities,” Calley said. “The legislative process

has inherent safeguards that add transparency and consensus-based decision-making to all of the work we do, and that is what has been sorely missing in our state’s COVID-19 response so far. We offered a partnership to the governor, which she did not accept. It’s unfortunate that we are being forced to take the governor to court just to get a seat at the table.” Calley said both the state and federal governments have three branches of government that are meant to be co-equal, with no one branch or individual wielding autonomous power. “The separation of powers is incredibly important because it prevents anyone from ruling by proclamation and instead necessitates deliberation and decision-making by the people’s representatives,” Calley said. “That’s even more important during this time, when the decisions being made by state government directly affect the fundamental rights of all Michigan families.”
