2021 at the age of 88. Verdena is survived by her sisters Vivian Hey and Sharlene Hopp, her children Brenda (Ron) Karsies, Doug (Dawn) Borup, and Derrick (Lori) Borup, 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by husband of 52 years, Gilbert Borup, parents Lyle Pintler & Berneice (Thompson) Pintler, siblings Shirley Hopp and Dale Pintler. Verdena was born on March 14, 1933 in Entrican, MI. She graduated from Lakeview High School, attended 2 years of bible school while working for Bell Telephone in both Ionia and Grand Rapids. After marrying Gilbert they resided in Saranac, MI as their family grew into what it is today. Verdena dedicated her life to her family and church participating in the children’s ministry as a Sunday school teacher and Awana leader. She was a lifetime member of the Boston Saranac Historical Society. She spent her life assisting her husband in their printing business, driving school bus, as well as acting as township treasurer. A visitation was hosted at Lake Funeral Home Ionia from 5-8pm on May 12th. A 1-hour (10am) visitation preceded the 11am funeral Thursday, May 13th at Galilee Baptist Church, with a reception following. Tim Anderson officiated the ceremony. All were welcome to attend and celebrate Verdena’s life. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Boston-Saranac Historical Society or Spectrum Hospice. † BOTRUFF With great sadness our family lost Jane Anne Botruff who passed away on April 3, 2021. She is now with her family and friends that passed before her in the house of the Lord. Jane was born on August 7, 1942 in Portland, MI to the parents of Mildred Huhn Nurenberg and Edwin Nurenberg. Jane lived on a family farm with her siblings as well as her grandparents. Later moved to a farm of their own near Palo, MI. She attended school in a one room schoolhouse but missed many days of school because of her health. Jane was determined to overcome the odds that she had been dealt and went on to graduate in 1960 from SS Peters Paul High School in Ionia, MI. After high school, Jane went to Beauty School in Lansing, MI where she achieved her Cosmetology license in May 1962 and worked in two different beauty shops in Ionia. Jane was first married in 1963 and soon afterwards her doctor told her that she wouldn’t survive if she gave birth to a baby. Jane continued not to give up the fight to be healthy. She had open heart surgery in 1965. Overcoming the odds, she had two sons, Shawn Michael Botruff in 1968 and Brian Scott Botruff in 1970. In 1972, Jane met, and married Dave Botruff and they moved to Marquette, MI where she continued to work in the Norlite Nursing Home beauty shop to make the ladies of the facility feel good about themselves. Jane’s family had many adventures in the upper peninsula over many years and then moved to Grayling, MI in 1987 where her family bought a home on Lake Margrethe which became the gathering place for the blended family with great memories of kids and grandkids with Grandma Jane. She would spend many hours making everything “just right” for all. Her life was for her family and she made everyone very special and welcome. In 2002, after Dave’s retirement she spent sixteen winters in either Arizona or Florida making many friends from all over the United States and Canada. Jane is survived by many family members and will be greatly missed and remembered for all the love she provided to her family. Her husband Dave of 48 years. Their children Shawn Michael and Angela Botruff in Suttons Bay, MI, Brian Scott and Lorrie Botruff in Gladstone, MI, Dwayne and Traci Botruff in Byron Center MI, Anita and Jim Smith in Bradenton, FL and Brian Michael and Jennifer Botruff in Fowlerville, MI. Her siblings Don Nurenburg and Ethel Lowery in Portland, MI, Dave and Terri Nurenberg in Ionia, MI, Pat and Gary Seat in Carson City, MI, Linda and Dick Gotwalt in Greenville, MI. Lucy and Jim Wright and their family in Denver, CO, Gloria Botruff and family in Thorton, CO and Bruce Schroeder and family in Graying, MI. Jane’s grandchildren Tim DeMenter, Sarah Botruff, Jason Spooner, Jammie Hernandez, Brandon Botruff, Kelsey Botruff, Joshua Botruff, Hunter Botruff, Nikki Kassel, Bjorn Botruff, Ian Botruff, & Aiden Botruff. Jane’s great granddaughters Ava Botruff and Peyton DeMenter. Jane’s wishes were honored, and cremation has already taken place. A celebration of Jane’s life, a memorial at Lake Marquette where the family have gathered for the last 34 years will take place later this summer. † GOODMILLER Charles M. Goodmiller, age 90 years, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2021 surrounded by his family. Charlie was born in Lawton, OK to James and Mary Goodmiller. Charlie attended Oklahoma University, played tackle with the Sooner football program, and went on to serve in the Korean War as an Army First Lieutenant in Ordinance and Equipment Inspection. While serving in the military, he met and married Navy Seaman Ellen T. LaCase. Charlie owned and operated Giants Enterprises of Ionia for the next five decades, he enjoyed snowmobiling trips to the Upper Penninsula, gardening, mowing, collecting old cars and antiquing with his wife Ellen. Charlie will be sadly missed by his daughters Terese Listerman, Ellen (Ronald) Bowling, son Michael Goodmiller, grandchildren Amanda (Wayne) Willaman and Erin (Jeff) Melnick, grandson Logan (Sarah) Bowling, great grandchildren, Macy and Natalie Willaman, Jaxon and Elise Melnick. Brother Ken Goodmiller, sister Mary Green (Robert) and many nieces and nephews. Preceding in death include beloved wife Ellen, son-in-law Charles Listerman, sister Edith Parsons, brothers James Goodmiller and Roy Goodmiller. Cremation has taken place and based on his wishes no memorial will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Charlie’s name may be made to Ionia Sparrow Hospital. † SWIFT Versil Dallas Swift, 97, of Ionia entered Heaven peacefully at home May 11, 2021 with his daughters by his side. He was born June 23, 1923 to Georgia Cummings and Dallas Swift. He worked at Federal Mogul in Grand Rapids, co-owner of Swift Brothers in Stanton, manager of Production Credit Association in Lakeview, and retired as Vice President of the farm Credit Division at Ionia County National Bank. He served his country during WWII as a Sargent in the Army as a Forward Observer. After returning from the war, he married his high school sweetheart, Beatrice (Ellsworth) Swift. Preceding him in death are his parents, his wife, and his brothers, Maurice Swift and Forrest Swift. Surviving are his children, Marlene (Bob) Henry, Mike Swift, and Melonie (Jim) Kimble. They were blessed with 7 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Versil was a member of Temple Baptist Church. In October 1940 he accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He served God faithfully as a leader in Boys Brigade, Sunday School teacher, youth director
and deacon. Services will be conducted by Pastor Brian Rahn on Sunday, May 16, 2021 at Temple Baptist Church with visitation at 2:00 PM and funeral at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends at 2:00 PM until the time of the service. Internment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Ionia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Missionary Fund of Temple Baptist Church or Hospice Care of Lansing.

Meeting called to order by Supervisor Kurt Scheurer. Members present – Scheurer, Higbee, Harp, McCoy, and Pitchford Pledge of Allegiance Minutes approved as read. Treasurer’s report approved as read. Motion by Pitchford and supported by Higbee to pay this month’s bill on hand. Motion passed. Public Safety presented report. Motion by Harp and supported by Pitchford to accept and sign a 3- year Police Protection Agreement with the City of Ionia with a reevaluation after the first year. Roll call vote; all voted yes, Motion passed. Motion by Higbee and supported by Pitchford to sign a resolution to support a joint application for the Community Development Block Grant water-related infrastructure application on behalf of the Ionia Regional Utilities Authority, with the City of Ionia acting as lead applicant. Motion passed, Motion by Scheurer and supported by Harp to resend our March 9, 2021 motion to hire Less Trash Removal. Motion passed.
