Sparrow expands COVID-19 testing for public LANSING, MI – Sparrow Health System, a nationwide leader with some of the most advanced COVID-19 testing in the country, is expanding access to testing for the general public, including essential employees in order to protect co-workers and customers. Starting today, Wednesday, May 6, Sparrow expands testing to the general public, including but not limited to Medicare and Medicaid recipients, and essential workers. Drive-up nasal swab testing is available at two Sparrow locations: • Sparrow St. Lawrence Campus, 1210 W. Saginaw St., Lansing. Hours are daily, 6 a.m. to midnight. • Physicians Health Plan, 1400 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Medicare and Medicaid patients do not require a physician’s order and can simply get the test at either of the two locations. Private insurers do require a physician’s order. Those interested need to call their provider, obtain the order, then get the test. A physician’s order is not required if payment is made via checks or credit/debit cards. Sparrow also offers COVID-19 testing to employers who contract with Sparrow Occupational Health. Those work-

ers may include employees returning to work at grocery stores, gas stations, pharmacies and newly reopened big box stores. Contact your employer to get tested. Employers wanting more information can contact Sparrow Occupational Health at 517.364.3900. Sparrow is responding to a vital community need because as employees return to work and the stay-at-home order expires, there will be at a higher risk of exposure. Sparrow is committed to making the community safer.

First Angel - Fear God

The first part of the restoration is to “FEAR God.” How do we fear God? Jesus always said, ‘’Don’t be afraid.” (Matthew 6:50, 17:7, 28:10) Revelation 21:8 says that the “fearful” shall be cast into the lake of fire. In the Bible, fear has different meanings. When we think of fear, we think of terror, being afraid. But fearing God means something more than terror. The Hebrew “Yare” is the word for fear that can also be translated “REVERENCE.” To fear God is to give Him honor, respect, and reverence. The Bible says. “The FEAR of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, a good understanding have all they that DO His commandments.” (Psalm 111: 10) “The FEAR of the Lord is to hate evil, pride, arrogance, and the evil way, and the forward mouth do I hate.” (Proverbs 8: 13) “And unto man he said, Behold the FEAR of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.” (Job 28:28) “By the FEAR of the Lord, men depart from evil.” (Proverbs 16:6) Solomon, the wisest man in the world said, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter; FEAR God, and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.” (Eccl 12:13,14) So we see that fearing God has to do with showing respect and reverence to God by being obedient to His commandments. The call to fear God is a call to obey Him. How are people saved? Ephesians 2:9, 10 states, ‘’For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not by works, lest any man should boast.” We cannot earn salvation. But Paul continues, ‘”For we are created in Christ Jesus unto good works (obedience), which God has before ordained that we should walk in them.” Works, or obedience to His commandments, is not the CAUSE of salvation, but works is the RESULT ( or fruits) of salvation. If we accept Jesus into our lives, we will want to be obedient to Him in loving response to our salvation. Jesus, after forgiving the adulterous woman, said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go, and sin no more.” Forgiveness brings a willingness to obey. Aren’t we saved by faith? Yes, but what kind of faith? Romans 3:31 tells us that we don’t do away with the law by faith. ·’Yea, faith establishes the law.” James 2:20 states ‘’Faith without works (obedience) is useless. It is not faith AGAINST works. It is not faith AND works. It is faith THAT works. Faith leads to obedience. James stated, “Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith BY my works.” I John 2:4 states, “If any man says he knows Him, but does not keep His commandments is a LIAR and the truth is not in him.’’ Jesus said in Matthew 7:21-24 that the wise man whose house is founded on a rock is the one who hears God’s word and obeys it. Matthew 7:21 states, “Not everyone who says unto me, Lord, Lord shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he who DOES the will of my Father which is in heaven.’’ What is the Father’s will? “I delight to do thy will, O my God, Yes, thy law is within my heart.” (Psalm 40:8) Revelation 14: 12 tells us the ones who receive and listen to the three angels’ messages do two things: Here are they that KEEP the commandments of God AND have the faith of Jesus. Let’s get ready for Jesus’ return. Let’s show reverent respect and love for God by obedience to Him and His commandments. “Fear God” is the message of restoration MENTALLY by putting His laws in our minds and hearts. How to exercise during the pandemic Life changed overnight for millions of people across the globe in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, which shuttered businesses and forced many people to follow stay-at-home measures issued by their local governments. These measures not only affected the overall health of those infected with the virus,

but also those who experienced no symptoms and even tested negative for COVID-19. In recognition of the mental toll that social distancing and stay-at-home measures can take, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advised people to exercise regularly. But opportunities to exercise

seemingly dried up when stayat-home guidelines were issued and gyms were shuttered. People without exercise equipment at home suddenly found themselves wondering how they could stay fit and keep their bodies in the best possible condition to fight a virus that has claimed thousands of lives. Thankfully, there are

ways to stay fit and keep immune systems strong without violating stay-at-home measures. · ACCESS ONLINE EXERCISE PROGRAMS. Many gyms that were forced to close to help stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus began offering exercise tutorials and classes via social media or websites such as YouTube. These videos can be invaluable resources, teaching people how to stay fit at home even if they don't have weights or other equipment on hand. In addition to gym-sponsored exercise tutorials, the internet is loaded with free exercise videos and advice that can help people without access to a gym get fit or maintain their fitness routines. · GO BACK TO THE BASICS. Many people no doubt recall gym class from their school days. Such classes teach youngsters the basics of physical fitness without employing dumbbells or advanced exercise machines. Those same basic exercises that work for youngsters, including push-ups, sit-ups and lunges, can be effective for adults as well. If it's been awhile since you've done your most recent push-up, access an online tutorial so you can be certain your form is correct. · DO SOME YARD WORK. It might not feel as high-intensity as a spinning class or a Pilates session, but yard work can be a great workout. Dust off the push mower the next time the grass needs to be cut, and get to work on pulling weeds in garden beds. The added benefit to yard work is it provides a great opportunity to get some fresh air without violating social distancing guidelines. · GO FOR A JOG. Perhaps the simplest way to exercise during the pandemic is to go for a daily jog. According to the Mayo Clinic, aerobic exercise repeatedly moves large muscles in the arms, legs and hips while engaging the immune system and helping it to ward off minor viral illnesses. That makes an early morning jog an especially valuable, not to mention easily accessible, way to exercise during the pandemic. Exercise can help people maintain their immune systems in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, and there are many simple ways to fit in a little physical activity even while social distancing.

MDARD to offer private pesticide applicators an alternate option to take certification exams In accordance with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ recommendations designed to slow the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has cancelled pesticide applicator certification exams. Under Executive Order 2020-11, the typical classroom-style exams are prohibited. To help ensure Michigan’s private pesticide applicators (farmers applying restricted use pesticides on their own land or crops) are in compliance with the law, MDARD is offering renewing and new private applicators the ability to receive Michigan private applicator certification via oral interview by phone. Please be advised that the department is not able to offer this option for commercial applicators at this time. Per the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, Act 451 of 1994, Part 83, Pesticide Control, Section 8311(3) (c), certification for private

agricultural applicators (e.g., farmers applying on their own fields) can be accomplished via an oral fact-finding interview administered by an authorized representative of the department. The interview will consist of multiple choice and/or true and false questions based on content from the National Pesticide Applicator Certification Core Manual. Questions will be read by an MDARD representative, applicants must respond orally and obtain at least a 70 percent score to pass. This opportunity can only be offered for the private applicator Core exam. To schedule an oral interview, contact Lisa Graves by phone at 517-284-5653, or by email at GravesL@michigan.gov. MDARD continues to work with the administration and federal government to explore options for both commercial and private applicators to certify and perform essential tasks for agricultural production to meet the food and feed industry needs of the people of Michigan and beyond.

New presidents named at Sparrow Carson, Clinton, and Ionia Hospitals LANSING, MI – Two nursing leaders and a Chief Financial Officer have been named presidents of three Sparrow Community Hospitals, which provide quality, compassionate care throughout Mid-Michigan. Effective today, May 1, Mark Brisboe, Beth Daugherty and Linda Reetz have been promoted to serve as Presidents of Sparrow Carson, Sparrow Clinton and Sparrow Ionia Hospitals, respectively. Each has been serving as acting hospital administrators for the past few months and bring decades of healthcare leadership experience to their new roles. The community-based Boards of Directors of each hospital unanimously selected the trio. “We are blessed to have such strong leaders who stepped into the void at each hospital and earned their new leadership roles during these unprecedented times,” said Kira Carter-Robertson, Senior Vice President, Affiliate Operations, for Sparrow Health System. Brisboe has been with Sparrow since July 2009 and has served as the Acting Hospital Administrative Officer at Sparrow Carson and Chief Financial Officer for Sparrow Carson, Clinton and Ionia. He has 30 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare operations and finance within small and rural hospitals. Brisboe was involved in the operational turnaround at Sparrow Ionia Hospital which lead to the development and build of a new hospital in 2015. In addition, he has been involved in financial turnaround improvements at Sparrow Carson and served

as a key executive leader at Sparrow Clinton. Daugherty has been with Sparrow since January 2015 and most recently served as the Acting Hospital Administrative Officer and Chief Nursing Officer for Sparrow Clinton.
