VILLAGE OF MUIR NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING FOR MICHIGAN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT (CDBG) FUNDING FOR THE SANITARY PUMP STATION AND FORCE MAIN PROJECT The Village of Muir will conduct a public hearing on May 11, 2021 at 7 PM at Muir Village Office, 122 W Superior St., Muir MI 48860, for the purpose of affording citizens an opportunity to examine and submit comments on the proposed application for a CDBG grant. The Village of Muir proposes to request $1,145,430.00 in CDBG funds to abandon the Villages wastewater pump station, and replace it with a new pump station, the project will also replace 2800’ of wastewater force main from the wastewater pump station to the Villages Wastewater Treatment Facility. The Village of Muir will contribute $141,570.00 from local funding. The project will benefit all residents within the Village and benefit at least 51% low to moderate income persons. No persons will be displaced as a result of the proposed activities. Further information, including a copy of The Village of Muir’s Community Development Plan and CDBG application is available for review. Jerry Lynn Pennington, age 78 of Ionia, passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2021. Jerry was born on March 3, 1943, the son of Harold and Pauline (Lake) Pennington in Ionia. On July 8 1961 he married the love of his life, Pamela, who preceded him in death in 2008. Jerry retired from Fisher Body and served his country in the Army during Vietnam. He was a member of the Ionia Moose Lodge, VFW and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, garage parties playing cards, and hanging with friends. Jerry is survived by his children, Gary Pennington, Chris (Toni) Pennington, Stacy Marcussen (Jason) and Nickki (Steve) Hurlbut; grandchildren, Jeremy VanDeusen (Misti), Stephen Hurlbut (Sarah), Jason (Traci) Guernsey, Janelle Allen (David), Clay Pennington and Garik Pennington; great grandchildren, Aubrey VanDeusen, Hudsyn Hurlbut, Kayleigh Allen, Ryker Spicer and Melody Pennington; sisters, Dierdra Hybarger and Sharon Kline; sister in laws, Sug (Dave) Pinnow and Lisa Loucks-McKee and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Pamela; inlaws, Harold and Patricia Loucks; brother in laws, Tom Loucks, Louise Kline, William Dennis and Ken Hybarger; sister-in-law, Karen Dennis and daughter-in-law Lona Pennington. A Visitation was held from 11AM-12 PM on Wednesday, April 28th at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia. The family asks if you would wear plaid shirts in memory of Jerry. Private Funeral Services held. Portland District Library Lines We asked the people of Portland to be creative, and they did not disappoint! There are 70 submissions for Portland Creates!, our all ages art competition, and now it’s time to vote. The art will be on display May 3 – 28, so stop by to have a look and choose your favorites. Then you can vote once per category per day. The most popular piece in each age group will win a prize, so make your vote count. Miniature Masterpieces 2 When your canvas is tiny—only 3 inches square—then your painting project gets done lickety-split. Last fall we painted a fall and a winter scene, and now it’s time for warm weather works. Take-and-Make bags will be ready on May 17, with all the supplies you’ll need to create two tiny paintings. An instructional video will be posted on YouTube that same day. Ages 15 and up. CHILDREN’S AND TEEN Scavenger Hunt Calling all Busy Bees and Book Cubs! The “Talking is Teaching” Scavenger Hunt is back and going county-wide this Spring! All 7 county libraries and the Ionia County Great Start Collaborative are bringing you the “Talking is Teaching” Spring Scavenger Hunt. This 8-week-long outdoor scavenger hunt will be offered to patrons in each community. Complete the hunt by locating themed clings and lawn signs in and around the community and visit that library afterwards to claim your prize. Try to complete all of them no later than Thursday, May 27 to receive

LANSING, MI – A new indoor vaccination site will allow Sparrow to safely provide up to 3,000 COVID-19 vaccines a day to Mid-Michigan residents, three times as many as possible in Sparrow’s drive-thru location. After administering thousands of vaccines in recent months at the Sparrow Laboratories Drive-Thru Clinic at Frandor vaccinations have now moved indoors at the former Sears building. The increased availability of vaccines exceeds what we can handle at the drive-thru site and necessitates this change. This will allow us to better fulfill our mandate to vaccinate as many people in the community as possible and protect the health and safety of Mid-Michigan residents. Other advantages include our patients and caregivers not being subject to varying weather conditions at the outdoor drive-thru, less traffic congestion, and reduced wait times for COVID testing and blood draws at the drive-thru. The drive-thru will remain in operation for testing and
have the capability to expand to seven lanes. Parking will be in the entire lot on the north side of Sears, with eight volunteers working throughout April to guide patients to the indoor entrance. Eagle Eye Golf Course has donated a golf cart to assist some patients and six wheelchairs will be available. Only patients will be allowed in the POD, with the exception of a parent/guardian accompanying a minor; parents who bring small children with them; and patients who need aid due to disabilities or language barriers. Patients will queue in eight lanes marked for social distancing and be checked in through Epic. Vaccination registration will continue through the MySparrow app and the process will not change for Sparrow caregivers. Hours of operation of the Indoor POD will be 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday; 1-6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
