Women Working Wonders makes $500,000 donation to benefit Sparrow caregivers LANSING, MI – The Sparrow Foundation’s Women Working Wonders (W3) has made an extraordinary donation of $500,000 to assist Sparrow caregivers and aid Sparrow in its response to COVID-19.
The donation is comprised of two parts and was made possible through the generosity of the community through W3 events, such as Dapper Dads, Art a la Carte, and Hats in the Garden: •$300,000 to the Challenge

RESTORATION
Adam and Eve fell in the garden in three ways: mentally, physically, and spiritually. (Genesis 3:6 - “She saw that the tree was good for food.” (This is the physical aspect of the temptation.) “It was a tree to make one wise.” (This refers to the mental aspect in which she fell) “The tree was pleasant to the eye.” (Eyes are a symbol of spiritual discernment. This refers to the spiritual fall) When Jesus came, He RESTORED the victory FOR us in these three areas. (Matthew 4:1-10) When tempted to turn stones to bread after fasting 40 days, Jesus said,” Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” He gained the victory over physical temptation. When tempted to prove He was the Son of God by casting Himself down from the mountain because God would not let Him dash His foot against a stone, Jesus replied, “You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’’ He gained the victory over mental temptation by not being presumptuous. When shown all the kingdoms of the earth to be given Him if He would just bow down and worship Satan, He refused, saying, “You shall worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shall you serve.” This was the spiritual victory Jesus gained for mankind. So Jesus restored the victory for mankind in these three areas : physical, mental, and spiritual. The first angel’s message in Revelation 14:6-14 contains the RESTORATION message in these three aspects of growth to RESTORE God’s image IN mankind. Christ not only gained the victory over sin for us, He wants to gain the victory in us. First He provided the vicarious victory; then He gives us the real victory. First He declares us righteous, and then He makes us righteous through the indwelling Spirit. Christ IN us is the hope of glory. Matthew 1:21 - “You shall call His name Jesus, for He shall save His people FROM their sins.” Most people want to be saved IN their sins. That’s not going to happen. Sin separates us from God. Sin has to be destroyed. The first angel has the everlasting gospel to preach to the whole world. This is a universal message. The gospel is the good news of salvation. “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23). “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus.” (Romans 6:23) Jesus said, ·’Go and TEACH all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost; teaching them to observe ALL things whatsoever I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:18-20.) “He who BELIEVES and is baptized shall be saved.” (Mark 16:16) “REPENT and be baptized, every one of you, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” (Acts 2:38) Jesus died for us, saving us from sin’s PENALTY. This is deliverance. Jesus gives us the Holy Spirit, saving us from sin’s POWER This is obedience to the law. God not only wants to justify us by DECLARING us righteous, He wants to sanctify us by MAKING us righteous. Romans 7:24,25 says the law is spiritual. Romans 8:7 says the carnal mind is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. The carnal mind cannot keep a spiritual law. The natural mind is opposed to God’s law. What is the New Covenant? (Hebrews 8: 10 and 10: 16) .. And this is the covenant that will I make with them after those days, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them upon their hearts; and I will be to them a God and they shall be to me a people.” -”This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and in their minds will I write them : and their sins and iniquities shall I remember no more.” Our response to God’s salvation should be one of loving obedience to Him. Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15) As one theologian said, “You have given all for me; what have I done for thee?” Next time, the first angel’s part one message: “Fear God.” What does it mean to fear God? Let’s let the Bible tell us. Peace and blessings and safety.

State Rep. Julie Calley today was named to a bipartisan oversight committee to review and assess the state’s actions during the coronavirus outbreak. Calley, of Portland, will serve on the Joint Select Committee on the COVID-19 Pandemic. In total, the bipartisan committee will include five legislators each from the House and the Senate. Its existence will better protect the people of Michigan and maintain key foundations of state government – checks and balances, involvement of the Legislature and its role as a conduit to the people it represents. “The people of Michigan deserve to be part of the conversation when it comes to how our state responds to this ever-evolving situation,” Calley said. “In my role as state representative, I serve as a voice of the people. I’m privileged to have this opportunity to advocate for their interests and locate the answers they deserve, as our state continues to address the health and economic devastation this virus has caused.” Calley also said she is pleased the governor has decided to heed the recommendations of legislators who have implored her to allow certain workers to return to their jobs and loosen restrictions on the sale of goods and services, outdoor activities, and the freedom to travel between residences. The revised stay-at-home order announced by Gov. Whitmer today allows residents to purchase items from additional businesses through curbside pick-up and delivery, something legislators have been fighting for to improve the lives of residents and put people back to work. “While easing these restrictions is a big step in the right direction, there are many more changes we should be making to address the needs of families who are struggling,” Calley said. “The
one-size-fits-all approach the governor continues to take is unnecessarily hurting people who live in areas outside southeast Michigan, where we aren’t experiencing high concentrations of the virus. It’s time to stop treating everyone in the state the same and start looking for solutions that allow more people in rural areas to get back to work.”

How to use protective masks & gloves the right way Personal protective equipment is well-known and utilized often within the health care community and various other industries. It only is in recent months that personal protective equipment, or PPE, became something the general population learned more about as the COVID-19 outbreak took hold in the western hemisphere. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, PPE is equipment worn to minimize exposure to hazards that cause serious workplace injuries and illnesses. PPE can include gloves, safety glasses, masks, earplugs, hard hats, respirators, or coveralls. In the medical community, PPE generally extends to gowns/ aprons, respirators, face shields, and more. Even though the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention were only advocating for the
use of masks primarily for COVID-19 patients and the health care workers tending to them, many people began to use gloves and masks of their own accord to safeguard themselves against contraction of the virus. Gloves and masks are only effective if they are used in the proper manner. The following are some guidelines for proper PPE use. GLOVES The CDC says that gloves should fit the users' hands comfortably. Gloves can only prevent the spread of pathogens if hand hygiene is performed before and after wear, states the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology. To remove gloves properly, pinch the outside of one glove at the wrist without touching bare skin. Peel the glove away from the body, pulling it inside out. Hold the glove just

removed in the other gloved hand and dispose of it. For the remaining glove, slide your fingers inside the glove at the top of the wrist, being careful not to touch the outside of the glove. Again, turn the second glove inside out while pulling it away from the body. Dispose of the glove properly. MASKS Masks, sometimes referred to as respirators, also need to fit to be effective. Masks should be tight-fitting to the face. Clean hands and put on the mask, molding the mask over the bridge of the nose and sealing it around the face. One strap should be high on the head, the other low around the base of the neck. To remove the mask, tilt your head forward and pull the bottom strap over the back of the head, followed by the top strap without touching the front of the mask, says APIC. Keep straps tight during the removal process. Don't snap the straps or touch the front of the mask, as this can spread germs. (Directions provided are for N95 respirators. Other mask designs should be removed according to manufacturer recommendations). PPE has become a household term. Proper usage is necessary to stay safe if and when masks and gloves are utilized.

Secretary Benson encourages voters to return absentee ballots as soon as possible

Those who are eligible and intend to vote in the May 5 election are strongly encouraged to cast their absentee ballots by mail as soon as possible, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said today. In order for a ballot to be counted it must be received by the local clerk’s office by 8 p.m. on Election Day. Approximately 740,000 voters were mailed applications, 213,011 submitted them, and already 86,355 have cast ballots — nearly 12 percent a week from the election. With turnout for May elections averaging at roughly 13 percent in recent years, these numbers indicate a significant increase in participation. “The data confirms what we already knew; when people are given the option to vote from the comfort of their home, they overwhelmingly choose to do so,” said Secretary Benson. “This level of turnout proves how committed Michigan voters are to participating in our democracy, and how even during a health crisis Michigan’s elections are successful.” Earlier this month, absentee ballot applications and postage-paid return envelopes were mailed to every voter in the jurisdictions still holding May 5 elections — mainly those with expiring millages or other funding concerns that could not wait until August. “Even though we’ve already seen excellent turnout, everyone who is able to do so should still cast their ballot by mail as soon as possible,” said Secretary Benson. “Voting by mail is a safe, secure and easy way to practice social distancing and engage in the democratic process at the same time.” For those unable to mail in their ballots in time, local clerk offices will be open on Election Day to serve as ballot drop locations. Same-day registration will also still be available, and those who need to request and then cast their absentee ballot in the office may do so.
