† KAPUSTKA Kenneth Joseph Kapustka, age 84 of Ionia, formerly of Carson City passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at his home, surrounded by family. He was born June 17, 1938, in Fulton Township the son of Joseph and Leona (McGraw) Kapustka. He was a 1956 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Carson City. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from July 25, 1956, until his honorable discharge on July 24, 1958.

Kenneth worked as the parts manager at HJ Martin International Harvester Dealer in Carson City for 30 years. He later worked as a Corrections Officer in Carson City, retiring in 2000, after 13 years of service. He also spent many years farming.

Kenneth married Mary Bennett on February 27, 1960, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Portland, a blessed union of 63 years. Together they enjoyed traveling and attending their grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carson City.

Kenneth enjoyed playing sports, especially baseball, softball, bowling and golf. He also enjoyed gardening and took great pride in keeping up with his yard work and landscaping.

Kenneth was loyal to his family and community, helping others whenever he was able. He will be remembered for his storytelling, sense of humor and his contagious laugh. He remained a humble man his entire life and will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Neil (Heather) Kapustka, Karen (John) Viera, Mike (Ann) Kapustka; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; his siblings, John (Donna) Kapustka, Darlene (Roger) Barnes, Danny (Mary Ann) Kapustka, Allen Kapustka, Jackie Unruh; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jill Schaeffer; his parents; and three sisters, Marilyn Wineland, Mary Lee Kapustka and Linda Pierce.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 1, 2023, at 11 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carson City with Fr. Steve Cron officiating. Interment will follow in Maryknoll Cemetery, Carson City. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 30th from 1-4 pm at Lux and Schnepp Funeral Home, Carson City with a Rosary to be held at 3:30 pm. Visitation will continue Monday from 10 am until the time of services at the church. Memorial contributions in Kenneth’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or the Ionia County Commission on Aging.

† MCPHERSON Tucker Alan McPherson age 59 of Saranac passed away April 11, 2023, surrounded by family and friends, after a courageous battle with Cancer. He was born June 19, 1963, in San Diego, California the son of James D. and Ora May (Friedli) McPherson. Tucker graduated from Saranac High School with the Class of 1981. Following his graduation, he joined the Army National Guard serving from 1981 until 1987 as a Mechanic. Tucker was proud of his service and that led him to joining and actively serving as a Member of the Saranac American Legion. He was a very artistic person and was a people magnet, which led him to deciding to be a Barber. Tucker worked for his grandfather Paul and with his sister Allison at Paul’s Barber Shop in Saranac where he would cut hair for 36 years until being diagnosed with Cancer. Tucker was diagnosed with two stage 4 cancers that spread throughout his body and always continued to battle. He had the support of many friends, family, his daughter, and his wife Mary which gave him the strength to continue the fight.

Surviving Tucker is his wife Mary of Saranac. Daughter Alana McPherson of Saranac. Son Al Ashley of Oklahoma. Sisters; Allison and Shannon of Saranac. Nieces Erica (Tim), Jade and Tessa. Nephews John, Jim, Bruce, Jimmy, and Logan. Stepson Lance Raimer and Family. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Tucker’s Life will be held at the Saranac American Legion Saturday May 6th at 3pm.
