The Elijah Message

Elijah was called out of nowhere to give a message to Ahab, king of Israel, and God’s chosen people. It was a call to repentance and a call to obedience to God’s law. Ahab blamed Elijah as the cause of no rain in the land. Elijah replied, “I have no troubled Israel, but you and your father’s house, in that you have forsaken the commandments of the Lord, and you have followed Baalim.” (I Kings 18: 18) Baal was the sun god. Elijah had a showdown with the priests of Baal and the prophets of the groves. One man against 850 priests and prophets. (Verse 9). The majority, in God’s eyes, even the religious leaders, are not always correct, and they had led the people away from God’s commandments. In Matthew 17:11-13, Jesus told the people that John the Baptist was Elijah. When the people asked John the Baptist if he were Elijah (John 1 :21-23) John replied, “I am not. I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Elijah.” John the Baptist was not Elijah the person, but he had the same :MESSAGE. (Matthew 3:1,2) “Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand.” When the religious priests, rabbis and lawyers came to John, he rebuked them as a “generation of vipers.” Snakes - split tongued, crying peace and safety when there is no peace. I Thessalonians 5 :2,3 tells us that Jesus is coming suddenly and unexpectedly when “They shall say peace and safety; then sudden destruction comes upon them.” God has spoken of these religious leaders before. Isaiah 56: 10-12 - “His watchmen are blind; they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber. Yes, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, that cannot understand.” Isaiah 56: 1-6 = Thus saith the Lord, Keep you judgment, and do justice: for my salvation is near to come, and my righteousness to be revealed .. Blessed is the man that does this, and the son of man that lays hold on it; that keeps the Sabbath from polluting it, and keeps his hand from doing any evil.” Isaiah 58:12,13 - “And you shall be called the REPAIRER of the breach, the restorer of paths to dwell in. IF you tum your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on my holy day; and call the Sabbath a delight, holy to the Lord, honorable; and shall honor Him ... Then you shall delight yourself in the Lord; and I will cause you to ride on the high places of the earth, and feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it.” But Malachi 4:5 tells us, “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the corning of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.” Elijah is not going to return in person. Just like John the Baptist gave the Elijah message at the first coming of Jesus; God has called a people to give the Elijah message just before Jesus’ second coming. What is that message? That message is found in Revelation 14:6-14. It is called the “everlasting gospel.” The first angel’s message is a call to repentance and a call to worship the true God; the Creator and Redeemer of mankind. It is a message of restoration. The second and third angels’ messages are a call to tum away from Baal worship -spiritual Babylon .. It is a warning against false worship and the influence of spiritual Babylon on God’s people, just like Jezebel had influence in false worship on Ahab and Israel.
