† PERRY Timothy James Perry age 64, a loving, adventurous, funny, entertaining, yet private
husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, dropped a gear and disappeared taking his final cruise to heaven’s gate on Saturday, April 9th, 2022. Tim was born December 9th, 1957, to Allen and Mabel (Richardson) Perry in Ionia. Tim was the youngest of 3 boys, joining Michael and Patrick. Tim’s father passed away when he was just a senior in high school and his mother passed away a few short years later. Although both of his parents had careers in the medical field, Tim’s passion for mechanics grew from a young age. When it came to his schooling and his friends, his heart remained torn between Ionia where he attended grade school and Gladwin where he ultimately graduated high school. Although Tim’s family moved to Pratts Lake in Gladwin during his high school years, he never stopped telling stories of his childhood on Benton court in Ionia. He also loved the lake so much in Gladwin that he took yearly trips there after graduating. Tim went on to marry his forever loving wife, Roberta of 44 years. Their forever friendship started in 7th grade in Ionia Jr. high. Tim sat in front of Roberta in study hall in which they spoke very little to each other at first. Soon after, a friendship blossomed once Roberta noticed that Tim had a passion for building model cars. Roberta then took it upon herself to buy one and bring to study hall just so Tim would help her build it. Tim taught Roberta everything there was to know about model cars including how to remove parts from the trees, to sanding and painting them. After junior high school, Tim’s family moved to Gladwin where he graduated and went on to get his Diesel Repair certification at Bailey Tech in St. Louis, Missouri. Tim eventually returned from St. Louis to Benton court where on a Saturday night cruise in his 1963 flat black Fairlane (which it sounded as tough as it looked) spotted Roberta and together they were again. May 7th of that same year they were married and started the Perry family’s lifetime story and built their forever home. As mentioned before Tim’s passion was mechanics. Once graduated with his diesel certification, Tim went on to start a career with Caterpillar in Jacksonville, FL. After that his career continued in GR at Ring Power. Lastly, his work finished out at American Bumper (Ventra) for the past 30 years as a tool and die journeyman manager. Tim loved being in the garage, he built motors and transmissions, he did body work, and he had undeniable fabrication skills. This along with his family, were his unquestionable devotions of his life. He was known to many as the Ford guy and found endless enjoyment working on them. He was a master of his craft and believed that vehicles should be preserved and spent his lifetime precisely doing that. One of his loves was his 1968 Mustang named Blackcherry. Tim enjoyed driving this car in cruises and all around the state. The Perry family took many cruises together and also spent time driving the dunes at Silver Lake. Tim was also known to do some street stock racing in Crystal, Palo, and Ionia in his early years driving #44. He also enjoyed winters that he was able to rescue people stuck in the snowstorms and drive his Ford trucks to pull people out. He enjoyed family camping trips, and never said no to a Sci-Fi movie or series on TV- he loved them! If you were blessed to know Tim, you would know that his priorities remained with his family. Tim was calm, kind, caring, wise, and a hardworking man. Always teaching his children and grandchildren what it means to be dedicated to work and family. He always spoke his mind and you knew what he was thinking although he had no problem telling you. Tim always tried to help others and never asked for repayment. Surviving Tim and carrying on his legacies to cherish are his wife, Roberta (Priest), sons’ Nicholas (Faith Oberlin), Joseph (Amber Lake), Christopher (Morgan Prescott), and daughter Michelle Perry. Nephew Tony Campbell. Brother-in-laws Mike Priest (Julie Anderson), Dennis Priest (Darlene Alexander), Sister-in-laws Debra (James) Thalison, Patricia (Bob) Priest, and brother Michael Perry. Also surviving Tim are his beautiful, loving, and kind grandchildren Devin Perry, Nicholas Bergeron, Brianna Perry, Braxton Perry, Nautica Tasma, Levi Perry, Benson Perry, and Serenity Perry. Tim was preceded in death by his newborn granddaughter Lachlan Perry, sister-in-law Tami (Werner) Priest, his parents Allen and Mabel Perry, parents-in-law Robert and Reba Priest, and brother Patrick Perry. If your heart is moved to donate in Tim’s name and memory- donate to Ionia Community Awareness. This organization helped with providing love and support to Tim and his family during his 5-year battle with cancer. He was a past Governor of the Ionia Moose Lodge, and a past president of the Ionia Farm Power. He is preceded in death by his parents, many aunts and uncles, and life-long friend Lawrence Chipman. Larry is survived by his wife, Doris; children, Debra (Elwin) Hall of Ionia, Theresa Menichino of Holland, Curt (Cindy) Cobb of Cedar Springs, Brenda Cobb of Holland, Brian (Cheryl) Cobb of Ionia and Kris Cobb of Ionia; sister, Joan Cobb; niece, Julie Cobb; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; step-children, Judy (Scott) Effenberg of Holland, Caro (Jim) Baughn of Ohio, Kenny (Lori) Gustafson of Ionia, Tammy Pierce of Ionia, Iva (Andy) Manning of Ionia and Sandy (Jeff) Rogers of Saranac; many step grandchildren and great grandchildren. A graveside service was held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Thursday, April 14th at 1 pm, with a memorial gathering at Renucci’s following. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Hospice. Governor rejects Calley’s plan to ensure accuracy of official voter rolls
State Rep. Julie Calley today expressed deep disappointment in the governor’s decision to veto her plan to remove dead and ineligible voters from the state’s qualified voter file but vowed to continue her work to improve the integrity of Michigan elections. A recent report from the independent, nonpartisan state
Auditor General revealed serious concerns about the integrity of the state’s official voter rolls. The audit recommended that the state correct discrepancies created by inaccurate addresses and deaths. The same concerns were flagged in a 2019 performance audit, but the Secretary of State’s Office failed to take action to correct the problem.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer rejected House Bills 4127-28, which would have established a procedure to ensure the state’s qualified voter list is up to date and accurate. “Improving the reliability of our voter list is not a partisan issue. It benefits every Michigander by boosting confidence in our election process,” Calley said. “This bill package would have increased the integrity of our voter rolls and made sure qualified voters maintained access to the polls.” According to the Auditor General, hundreds of people on Michigan’s voter rolls are listed as being over 120 years old – which would be older than the oldest known living person. In addition, it is estimated that 300,000 people on the rolls are inactive voters who haven’t voted in more than 20 years. Under House Bills 4127-28, the Secretary of State would have been required to send a notice asking the elector to provide a corrected address or date of birth, including a warning that his or her registration may be cancelled if the information is not provided. If the voter does not return the card and does not engage in any voter activity in the following two general elections, the registration will be cancelled. “The Auditor General identified a clear problem. The state should not continue to ignore it,” Calley said.
“Taking people off our official voter rolls who died or moved out of state decades ago is a good policy that has wide-ranging support from the public. I hope the governor’s office will work with us to put a solution in place.”

Our family annually sponsors an endowed scholarship (Gregory Family Scholarship)). Additionally, our family has a strong understanding of the importance and necessity of a well-funded school district. I question the prudence and timing of this millage request. It is particularly troubling that IPS leadership is asking for this millage increase during a time that its citizens are already facing unique financial challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. It is true that the millage, if passed, will not affect your primary residence; however, what about 1) industrial 2) commercial 3) investment property 4) vacation homes and 5) rental properties? They all will be affected. If my memory serves me correctly, IPS recently passed a sinking mill tax levy. If the tax payers of IPS want to restore “Bulldogs Beginnings” spread the taxes equally. Red Cross Blood Drive
Our March 21 American Red Cross Blood Drive at the Saranac Community Church had a late start due to computer problems. We were still able too collect 41 pints of life-saving blood. Lizbeth Deindorfer was presented with her 1 gallon pin, Patsy Schwenke and Barbara Hotchkiss their 4 gallon pins, Blaine Wittkopp his 5 gallon pin, and John Heiler earned his 11 gallon pin. Congratulations and thanks to all of our donors and volunteers for your patience. Our next blood drive will be May 16 at the St. Anthony's Church. REQUIREMENTS: •Must be age 55 or over •Income less than $27,180 per year for one person, $36,620 for a couple (medical expenses are deducted from income for eligibility) •Agree to serve at least 10 hours per week (Monday – Friday) •No educational requirements BENEFITS YOU RECEIVE: • Bring home up to an extra $240.00 per month or more which is tax-free and does not affect Social Security, rent subsidies, Medicaid/Medicare, commodities, or other services from Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). • Mileage reimbursement of $.45 per mile • Social opportunities for men and women • One free meal per day at the site • Paid time off (P.T.O) = vacation and sick time paid to you • Paid holidays Foster Grandparents help children maintain or improve their self-esteem by encouraging them, assisting them throughout the day, and being a positive role model. Grandparents work with children in an assigned classroom at a local school, daycare center, or preschool. Senior Companions help individuals live independently, visiting them weekly, sharing a cup of coffee, reminiscing, playing cards, socializing with those unable to get out, and providing transportation for local errands.
