– Obituaries – † MIER Anita Yvonne Mier loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many passed away at home surrounded by family members at her home on Thursday, March 31st, 2022. Anita was born on April 18th, 1936 in Minturn Arkansas. Most of her youth was spent in Alicia, Arkansas where she attended school and met the father of five of her six children. The family relocated to Grand Rapids, Michigan in the 1950 ‘s. Anita married the love of her life on December 9th, 1967 and shortly after the family relocated to Ionia, Michigan where she lived out the rest of her life. Anita was proceeded in death by her parents Robert and Jesse Gladden, brother Robert Gladden, children Johnny Lee, David Lee and Shelly North, stepdaughter Vickie Hicks and son-in-law Paul Burt. Surviving family include her beloved husband of fifty-four years David Mier of Ionia, daughter Marsha (Mitch) Emmons of Holland, son Robert (Amber) Lee of Ionia, daughter Shannon (Scott) Graham of Ionia, Randy North of Grand Rapids and Charlene Burt of Park Falls, Wisconsin. Surviving grandchildren are Bridget Gless, Sherri Oberlin, Brad North, Heather LaBelle, Alex Lee, Tyler Graham and Katlyn, Zach Lee, Megan Graham, Christopher Day and Alicia and Phillip Burt. Also surviving are 12 great grandchildren and dear to her heart are Rick Spaans, Steve McBride and Lori Slater. While most people have hobbies, Anita had passions. Throughout her life she had many. She had her vegetable gardens, canning and baking to provide food for her family. Many a day her children would come home to the smell of fresh baked bread and canisters of cookies. Anita had many years that she did quilting. She did all the sewing by hand and created quite a variety of quilts. She and Dave built two homes from the ground up! All that have known know of her love of her A.M.C. cars and car club. She and Dave won hundreds of trophies, plaques and various awards, with their cars, which are proudly displayed throughout their home. She loved Nascar! Sitting by the radio rooting on her drivers long before the races were regularly broadcasted on Television. Her collection of teapots is enormous! How many times we’ve all heard her say that she had room for no more only to be shown a new one during the next visit. Avid does not even describe the type of reader she was. She never forgot anything that she read either.
