Dear Friends

Although travelling around our rather special collection of hotels is always a pleasure I will never tire of, one of the best perks of the job must be being obliged to taste absolutely everything that our super-talented chefs create. It could potentially become a full-time job at this time of year, as with the spring sunshine comes an abundance of fresh and colourful local ingredients, which invariably provide the inspiration for an array of new creations and of course the resurrection or sometimes the reinvention of several ‘Iconic’ classics.

As you well know, great kitchens and memorable food are at the heart of all our properties, be it a simple family alfresco supper, a celebratory gathering with friends or an important management offsite with time only for a power lunch. Regardless of the occasion though, the passion and effort that goes into every meal is always impressive, even at breakfast which we continue to regard as the most important service!

Seeing all our head chefs come together for the recent Iconic Summer Party was a magical sight, each bringing with them scaled down versions of their most popular dishes, encouraging partygoers to taste their way around the portfolio before dancing the night away by the Profumo Pool. And before Team Cliveden even had time to draw breath, they were preparing to host Relais & Châteaux’s prestigious World Oceans Day Dinner.

Looking ahead, more tasting is on the agenda, and with the interior renovations in full swing at The Chelsea Townhouse, ready for the big reveal in August, we are now fully focussed on what Head Chef, Antonio Aniello, is going to tempt guests with when they stay. Both The Chelsea Townhouse and Antonio are exciting additions to the Iconic Family, for sure!

Best wishes

A TOTALLY DECADENT ROUND-UP

THE ICONIC SUMMER PARTY

The highly anticipated annual Iconic Summer Party took place in Cliveden’s Walled Garden, and it was wonderful to see everyone there.

Champagne, cocktails and lively conversation flowed between guests as they made the most of the glorious sunshine and beautiful surroundings. Head chefs across the Iconic Luxury Hotels portfolio (including James Martin) came together to produce delicious culinary offerings, Laurent-Perrier’s vintage pink champagne van, Rosie, ensured guests’ glasses were refreshed, and the evening’s upbeat soundtrack was provided by Wandering Hands and DJ Chris Stark. Things heated up later in the evening as dancing got underway, and a celebratory conga was spotted snaking around the beautifully lit pool… needless to say, a great time was had by all!

GRILL AND TAVERN AT THE LYGON ARMS

The Great Hall was buzzing with excitement at The Lygon Arms on the 1st February, as guests thronged for the launch party of Grill by James Martin – one of his own classic Ferraris parked in front of the building delivered an ideal instagrammable moment for guests making their way inside. The beautifully lit vaulted ceiling provided the perfect acoustics for the live music, with a myriad of guests below enjoying samples of the taste of things to come, and the renowned chef front and centre, surrounded by interested well-wishers keen to congratulate. A speech by James from the heights of the Minstrel’s Gallery was warmly received, with everyone raising an enthusiastic toast to the start of a beautiful culinary friendship in the Cotswolds.

RELAIS & CHÂTEAUX’S WORLD OCEANS

DAY DINNER

In celebration of United Nations World Oceans Day on Thursday 8th June, six renowned Relais & Châteaux chefs (Yannick Noack of Purs in Germany, Alexandre Gauthier of La Grenouillère in France and Adriano Venturini from Eden Roc Cap in France, along with UK chefs Danni Barry of Ballynahinch Castle in Ireland and Cliveden’s own Chris Hannon), joined forces at Cliveden creating a stunning, one-of-a-kind menu honouring sustainable seafood for their esteemed guests.

A CHELSEA COUNTRY GARDEN

Running alongside Chelsea Flower Show, Chelsea in Bloom not only brings beautiful displays bursting with colour, but also a healthy dose of fierce competition amongst the high-profile participants. It’s with great pride therefore, that 11 Cadogan Gardens took top spot, taking home ‘Best Floral Display’ with their whimsical Peter Rabbit country garden. Positioned at the entrance and outside Hans’ Bar & Grill on Pavilion Road, the displays were created from cottage garden flowers and country blooms, grasses, watering cans, and vegetables. The bench, with its bunny ears, proved an instant Instagram magnet, irresistible to social media mavens keen to get in on the act.

[MENO]PAUSE AND RESTORE

Enjoy a 90-minute body ritual designed specifically to reset through targeted massage techniques and a curated soundscape to rebalance and restore. It also includes a stomach massage to release emotional heaviness, aid digestion and be at ease, and provides analgesic, cell-regenerating, anti-inflammatory properties to the skin and tissues. Live sound is weaved into the experience, stepping down the binaural frequencies to assist with the reset. Leave recharged and refreshed with a full-size OTO product to either help re-programme sleep or bring clarity through the day, as well as a selection of educational plans including exercise, diet, and relaxation.

PROVERB

Book a Proverb treatment at Cliveden and help the environment... Ever eco-conscious, Proverb donates £1 of every treatment to their partners Greenspark and Plastic Bank, who work to remove ocean-bound plastic, aiming to turn the tide on the 12 billion kilos of plastic waste entering the oceans every year. Plastic Bank, in turn, build ethical recycling ecosystems in coastal communities, while creating opportunities for those who helped collect it.

OSKIA THERAFACE

We pride ourselves on being at the cutting edge of what’s new in beauty, which is why our therapists are now using the new Theraface tech by Oskia at The Lygon Arms, Cliveden House and Chewton Glen spas. The beauty device everyone’s talking about, according to the Senior Beauty and Wellness Editor at British Vogue, the Theraface Pro brings handheld technology and instant results into the treatment room. Its multiple percussive heads deliver different treatments – using them in conjunction with each other offers additional benefits, too. Lissa Bankston, Therabody’s Director of Education, says “The micro-point percussive head is like an irrigation system for the skin. It will help increase blood flow, whereas the cone head is designed for pinpoint therapy – a potent dose of therapy to relax muscles and relieve pressure”. Infrared light therapy rings can be used with the percussive heads, to smooth fine lines, treat acne and breakouts and soothe inflammation, not to mention improving and building collagen and elastin at a cellular level, too.

THERAPIST OF THE YEAR

Lucie Allen, a therapist from Chewton Glen Spa, competed against a wealth of highcalibre competitors to win the highly prized accolade of ‘Therapist of the Year’ at the Professional Beauty Awards. A prestigious and established awards scheme for the beauty, spa, nails and aesthetics markets, The Professional Beauty Awards recognises individuals who make a real difference to the industry, and we are proud that for the second year running, one of our therapists has won this esteemed award – well done, Lucie.

If you venture up to the Cotswolds today, you’re in for a big surprise… well, two in fact. The Lygon Arms has undergone a culinary makeover, embarking on a new partnership with renowned chef, James Martin. Following his resounding success at The Kitchen at Chewton Glen, James has worked his menu magic and curated a selection of crowd-pleasing dishes to sample throughout the property. Inspired by local, artisanal and seasonal produce, the new menu is in-keeping with The Lygon Arms ethos of serving traditional and authentic dishes in a laid-back and welcoming atmosphere, and this is achieved with panache and style in Grill, the historic and welcoming main restaurant.

A relaxed and comfortable space, Tavern by James Martin is an affable choice to spend a few hours grazing on simple food, enjoying a glass of real ale or cider from local breweries (such as Hawkstone, owned by Jeremy Clarkson) and relaxing with the newspapers. The menu will feature nibbles and grazing dishes, complimenting the character of the cosy historical Tavern. Menu options will include The Lygon sausage roll with mustard, relish and pickles; Little Oak Middlewhite scotch egg with piccalilli relish, or hot pork pie with fruity House of Parliament sauce. A delicious pudding or two may also be slipped in to appease those with a sweet tooth, too.

ALL THINGS

11 Cadogan Gardens has launched their latest creation - an exceptionally unique British Gardens Afternoon Tea, with a miniature garden displaya mouthwatering sandwich selection arrives on a wooden platform adorned with artificial grass, tiny park benches and trees, along with gingham napkins. Light, fluffy scones are accompanied with thick clotted cream and jam, while the sweets (infused with floral and garden flavours, flower-shaped cakes, macarons with fruit flavours, and an abundance of edible flowers) are presented on a traditional afternoon tea stand, wrapped in ivy.

Following the theme, 11 Cadogan Gardens have launched The Secret Garden in partnership with Laurent-Perrier Champagne, which will no doubt enhance their reputation as the best-kept secret in Chelsea.
