Luxury Design for Longevity
Why luxury well-aging design is strategic and wise at 55.
The ultimate luxury is being safe and comfortable in a home you love. It isn’t exciting to think about aging, but if you want to stay in your home long into the future, it makes sense to think about beautiful design today that you will fully appreciate tomorrow.
As young as 55, our bodies are undergoing subtle changes, from vision and balance to mobility and overall
well-being, that gradually impact our daily lives. We have surgeries such as knee or hip replacements. And despite feeling like Superman or superwoman, we are at high risk of falling and sustaining a debilitating injury. Over 60% of falls happen at home, most of which are in the bathroom. Falls are physically, emotionally, and cognitively life-changing and they are costly in recovery time as well as financially. More importantly,
our homes are not built ready to prevent mishaps, let alone facilitate health recovery, safety, or accessibility, but they certainly can be.
According to a Harvard Housing Study, 99 percent of U.S. homes are not aging-inplace ready.
Regardless of size or price point, aging is not typically a forethought or priority in the architecture and design of homes when they are built. That’s why a lot of people end up in assisted living. Their homes are not able to accommodate their needs as they age.
Homes have never been considered a golden opportunity to boost longevity but they should be! It’s crucial to recognize that taking preventative measures in your living space is not just a necessity for people over 55, but a wise choice for everyone.

Bonnie J. Lewis Design creates luxury interiors incorporating special design elements that provide critical preventative measures and allow your home to accommodate unforeseen circumstances. The result? You boost your longevity and get a design that allows you to stay independent, living happier and longer in your home.
Nationally recognized for her expertise, Bonnie is one of just a handful of professional interior designers who are Certified Aging-in-Place Specialists (CAPS) in the country. She is also experienced in healthcare and senior living design. When you work with Bonnie, you are working with a degreed, award-winning designer who combines stunning aesthetics with safety and accessibility in a way that isn’t obvious or disruptive.
AS BEAUTIFUL AS IT IS SAFE AND ACCESSIBLE
Recently, Bonnie J. Lewis Design completed a project for a physician couple who bought their forever home in North
“OUR HOMES ARE NOT BUILT READY
Scottsdale. While they are still young at 55 and 65, they knew they wanted to plan for the future. It’s a smart investment for homeowners to do one remodel versus two, which is also better for the environment as it preemptively puts less in the landfill.
The primary bathroom involved designing a new ADA-compliant floor plan with abundant lighting, improved functionality, and accessibility while selecting appropriate finishes and ADA fixtures. Some of the standout design aesthetic elements include a custom 10-foot-high solid walnut, modern barn-style entry door, textured white wood-patterned tile plank flooring, a unique custom translucent blue window treatment, organic patterned wallpaper, 3-D wall tile, and custom cabinetry.
Bonnie always meticulously weighs the impact of every design decision and selection as she incorporates well-aging design, evidenced-based design, and Biophilic design to help clients proactively live safely and independently.
“Bonnie created and executed a breathtaking renovation that exceeds any spa bathroom I have ever seen anywhere in the world. She flawlessly incorporated accessibility features we did not think we would need for many years. I came to appreciate the larger shower, which could accommodate both my husband and me as I needed help with showering after I fell during a hike, breaking my wrist within months of the remodel.” Michelle Anderson, M.D.

My career has been shaped by building and scaling businesses across a variety of industries, from early stage startups to large corporate environments. I studied entrepreneurship and business economics at the University of Arizona and later earned my MBA from the University of Southern California, focusing on entrepreneurship and innovation. Along the way, I have worked in product, strategy, venture investment and corporate development, helping organizations grow through thoughtful innovation and meaningful partnerships. While my background is not in publishing, those experiences will help strengthen and expand what makes ICONIC LIFE so special.
I want to recognize and thank our founder, Renee Dee, whose vision and leadership built ICONIC LIFE into the widely respected brand it is today. CHEERS TO CHANGE
And just like that, we are back! I hope everybody had a wonderful time with their families during the holidays. I must say, I am happy to be back working and am more inspired than ever for what’s to come this year. If you haven’t yet heard, ICONIC LIFE underwent an ownership change in October 2025. Our new owner, Tracy Thomas II, will now lead the ICONIC brand into 2026 with plans for growth while maintaining what makes our magazine so great. We can’t wait for this new chapter.
January is the month of change, people adjust their diets, workout habits and personal practices, among other things. I’m experiencing numerous changes this year. Not only am I working on myself in all the ways I mentioned above, but I am also changing a significant part of my identity: my last name. In four months, I will be marrying my incredible fiancé and starting a new phase in my life, and I couldn’t be more excited.
As we begin this new year together, I encourage you to embrace change, as it often brings opportunity and growth. Don’t worry, though; amid all the change, one thing will stay the same—my commitment to providing you with the high-quality, ICONIC LIFE magazines you have all come to know and love. Cheers to 2026 and cheers to change.

How Laura Madden utilizes sustainability to make breathtaking art.
By Nakayla Shakespeare
Laura Madden’s art strikes conversation, not only for its visual intrigue but also for its conscious commitment to sustainability. Working with interior designers, architects and even chefs, Madden repurposes leftover materials from projects into stunning works of art, sought after by the Scottsdale community and beyond.
Art has been a lifelong passion of Madden’s, starting as a hobby to add decor to her homes. “My husband and I have moved across the country many times for his job,”
Artfully Sourced
she says. “I would create new art for the walls, but I never took it further once I had what I wanted.”
When she moved to Arizona in 2018, she decided to pursue her passion for art fulltime. “I couldn’t outrun it anymore. It’s all I wanted to do,” she recalls. The transition from pursuing art for personal gain to pursuing it professionally has been effortless.
Madden collects and curates unwanted canvases, found items and reclaimed materials for her pieces, serving as an example of eco-conscious art and sustainable practicality. “I try to use as many items that are not brand new and as out of the box as I can,” she notes.
Notable collaborations Madden has had with artisans include her chef series
with James Beard Award-winning Chef Christopher Gross, in which she turned old chef aprons into contemporary works of art that add dimension and story to a space. She also worked with fashion designer Mark Pomerantz to create art pieces inspired by his custom fabrics.
“A big part of what I do is utilize items that would otherwise be put in a landfill, and resurrect value in those pieces,” Madden explains. “Waste is a huge problem, so however I, as an artist, can take some of that surplus and save it from going to a landfill, I feel really good about that.”
Madden’s art exemplifies how mundane items can be repurposed into something priceless, something loved and valued by others, something ICONIC.

NAILED IT— NATURALLY
This nail polish option is the best of both worlds compared to regular polish and gel.
By Madeleine Perich
You know those moments when you throw on a quick coat of nail polish before rushing out the door and, like clockwork, you smudge or chip it before you even make it to the car? In the ever-evolving beauty industry, few products have truly shifted the standard. When Dazzle Dry entered the nail space, it redefined what a manicure could be. Breaking away from the usual formulas that leave your nails brittle and stained with that all-too-familiar yellow tint, Dazzle Dry offers a high-performance alternative that’s healthier, faster and smarter.
While traditional nail polish is accessible and easy to apply, it’s not entirely perfect. Often, there are long drying times, chips and nicks within days (even minutes) and harsh chemicals that many consumers are growing increasingly wary of. Though gel polish may have stepped up that game regarding durability and retention, it’s
known for the UV exposure required, tedious removal and, more often than not, weakened nails post-manicure.
Created by bio-organic chemist Dr. Vivian Valenty, Dazzle Dry is a four-step system that delivers gel polish’s long-lasting wear and high-gloss finish with the quick application and removal of regular polish. No harsh chemicals or UV light required. The best part? It’s the official five-minute manicure.
How long does the five-minute manicure last? Dazzle Dry gives regular polish a run for its money, lasting up to two weeks chip-free, depending on your lifestyle. Easily removable with regular nail polish remover, it leaves nails damage-free, eliminating acetone soaking and scraping from the picture. Unlike many traditional nail polishes, Dazzle Dry is free from harmful ingredients such as toluene, formaldehyde,
camphor and DBP. It is also vegan, cruelty-free and doesn’t contain nitrocellulose—a common film-forming agent linked to nail yellowing and brittleness.
In a space where most “natural” polishes underperform, Dazzle Dry doesn’t make you choose between clean beauty and professional results. This formula is the perfect combination of science and wellness, created for those who want beautiful nails without compromising nail health. Whether you’re a regular at the salon or a DIY-at-home enthusiast, Dazzle Dry is a smart, healthy upgrade to your nail routine. With its quick-dry formula, long wear and clean ingredients, it’s little wonder that it has a cult following among nail professionals, beauty editors and wellness-conscious consumers alike.
Once you try it, you might never go back.

Cupcake
Creations
A gluten-free sweet treat without the guilt.
By Amalie Rhebeck
Imagine a cupcake with more protein than a nutrition bar and more fiber than an apple. It sounds impossible, right? Jennifer Schuitemaker, owner and founder of Sweet n Skinny, has made it possible.
Although her bakery has only been established for a year, Schuitemaker has always had a passion for baking and has been developing healthy, nourishing desserts for years.
“I love dessert and I am very health conscious,” Schuitemaker says. “Because of my
love for desserts, I wanted to have a rational way to eat them every day and still feel great, nourish my skin, protect my gut and have an overall well-being. That’s why I developed these recipes.”
Today, Sweet n Skinny offers cupcakes, layered and sheet cakes and beauty bites, all packed with nutrition without compromising the flavor and indulgence of dessert. Her creations are gluten-free and void of refined sugars or any processed ingredients. Instead of standard baking flour, she opts for chickpea flour for added protein and fiber, coconut flour for improved digestion and almond flour for magnesium. Every ingredient is mindfully incorporated, from cage-free eggs and grass-fed butter to aluminum-free baking powder and fair-trade vanilla.
Beyond its nutritional value, a Sweet n Skinny dessert is a work of art, meticulously crafted by Schuitemaker. Drawing inspiration from florals, her signature icing transforms each confection into a vibrant burst of color.
“The reason my company exploded from the get-go is because people appreciate beauty, and that’s a force in this world,” she
observes. “By beauty, I mean something that is made intentionally, something that is handcrafted.”
Schuitemaker learned to master the power of baking with heart and intention under the guidance of her grandmother, with whom she spent her childhood in the kitchen.
“That really inspired me as a child because behind those doors, magical things were going on,” she recalls. “[Today] I think we are really distancing ourselves from our homes and our kitchens and the art of something handmade with love, care and integrity.”
That is the driving force behind Sweet n Skinny, which creates desserts that taste like they were crafted with love while still fueling a life of health, wellness and nourishment.

flower POWER
The benefits of flowers that you might not have known.
By Nakayla Shakespeare
Ialways love it when my home smells of a fresh bouquet of flowers, but did you know that their benefits extend beyond a fragrant aroma and a beautiful display? Studies show that flowers offer numerous health benefits, including reduced stress, improved air quality, enhanced mood and concentration, and even some antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects; talk about being pretty and powerful!
STRESS RELIEVER
Everyday life can get stressful, and researchers have devoted considerable effort to figuring out how to limit a person’s stress. A study from the University of North Florida shows that individuals who lived with flowers in their home reported decreased stress levels. The average reduction in stress score was about 5.5 points when flowers were present.
IMPROVED MOOD AND CONCENTRATION
In addition to reducing stress, florals can boost mood and concentration throughout the day. The scents of lavender, roses and lilies can lift the spirit, while the sunny hues of blooms like sunflowers will bring a cheerful vibe to the room.
IMPROVED AIR QUALITY
In 1989, NASA conducted a study that measured how effectively certain plants could reduce the presence of chemicals, particularly formaldehyde, benzene and trichloroethylene, in the air. The results showed that most plants included in the study significantly improved air quality, with some removing certain chemicals by as much as 70 percent.
The plant that removed the most formaldehyde from the air was the mass cane; the plant that removed the most benzene was the gerbera daisy, and the plant that removed the most trichloroethylene was the pot mum.
ANTIBACTERIAL AND ANTI-INFLAMMATORY EFFECTS
Florals aren’t just beautiful; they can also make you feel better physically. Flowers like calendula, echinacea, borage and cornflower have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Calendula is known for its wound-healing and antiseptic properties, while echinacea can boost immunity and reduce inflammation. Borage flowers help protect against bacterial infections and inflammation, while cornflower is used for its antibiotic and antiseptic qualities, particularly for internal and external ailments.
What Goes Around Comes Back Around
Photos courtesy of Tidelli Outdoor Living
Tidelli Outdoor Living’s commitment to sustainability and opportunity gives back to the environment and the community.
By Amalie Rhebeck
To understand Tidelli Outdoor Living, one needs to see a brand focused on more than just patio furniture. The company is centered around creating real human and environmental connections and producing quality, handcrafted products designed to last.
Based in Brazil, Tidelli is focused on integrating sustainability into all business aspects through social outreach, economics and the environment.
Since its inception, the outdoor living firm has prioritized sustainability at the community level. By thoughtfully establishing its manufacturing operations in a neighborhood struggling with a limited job market and low-income conditions, Tidelli has employed hundreds of community members.
“People have an excellent quality of life. They can take a break, go home and have lunch, and come back for the next shift,” Giancarlo Mandelli, operational director for Tidelli USA, says. “This was a huge step [forward], but it wasn’t sufficient. There were more people needing help than we could employ because we didn’t have the need, so the second step was the establishment of the Tidelli Institute.”
The Tidelli Institute was created with the community in mind. It not only pays its employees but also gives them the opportunity to learn new skills by creating unique projects using the overflow of raw materials from the manufacturing plant. The company then buys back its products, which can include purses, Christmas decorations, soup plates, pillows and bags.
“We work with very high-quality materials, and there’s a lot of waste during the manufacturing process. Instead of throwing the waste into the environment, we recycle by donating it to the institute, and the institute manufactures sellable products,” Mandelli says.
By recycling the raw materials and reusing aluminum, PVC, stone and wood scraps in the manufacturing process, Tidelli helps protect and preserve the environment. They also use machines that reduce overall energy consumption. By limiting their waste, they virtually eliminate the cost of material disposal, further boosting their economic position.
Beyond the raw materials, Tidelli is known for the handmade craftsmanship of each piece of furniture. Mandelli explains that while most outdoor furniture is mass-produced and will only last two to five years, their furniture is handcrafted and created to last up to 20 years.
“Our product will last a long time, and in 15 years we’re probably going to sell more because we are going to sell to the same customers,” he says.
In Brazil, clients can also have their older Tidelli furniture refurbished, preserving the original frame while adding new upholstered elements.
“Our philosophy is to build something that lasts,” Mandelli remarks. “This says a lot about how concerned we are not only in selling more, but in making it right. If there’s no need to generate additional waste or consume additional resources, we prefer to do that.”
This way of thinking and operating has established Tidelli as more than an outdoor furniture company. It values each employee, the community in which it operates and the environment.
“Sustainability for us is a whole mindset,” Mandelli says. “Sustainability is not just impacting this generation; it’s impacting future generations. It’s a whole way of thinking, and that’s what we pursue in different aspects of our manufacturing.”

Welcome to JungleLiving
The incredible tropical residences coming to Tulum.
By Amalie Rhebeck
Tucked between the Mayan jungle and the Caribbean Coast, is AZULIK Tulum’s latest endeavor: a residential community rooted in the natural earth and just moments from the sea. While currently in the construction phase, when completed, it will stand as more than just a coastal apartment complex; it will be a mesmerizing, earth-connected space.
The AZULIK Residences were thoughtfully designed with holistic living at the heart of its architecture, design, landscape and amenities. Inspired by the jungle and the sea,
the architecture flows effortlessly between the natural flora and the curvaceous open-air design of each dwelling.
Only steps away from the ICONIC AZULIK Tulum resort, the nearly four-acre property will consist of 84 residences, each ranging from around 750 to 3,230 square feet. Each residence is thoughtfully designed with one to two bedrooms, an open living area, a dining room, a kitchen and a bathroom. The rest of the property incorporates lush vegetation, private gardens, organically shaped pools and serene waterfalls.
Photos courtesy of Azulik
The most striking element of the property is its facades, courtesy of Roth Architecture. Curved, fluid and almost futuristic in form, the architecture blurs the line between nature and human ingenuity. Cloaked in soft ivory-colored paint and nestled within a lush canvas of tropical greens, each residence embraces a minimalist aesthetic—allowing the surrounding jungle to command the spotlight.
The interiors, by Roth Design, are thoughtfully crafted to bring the outdoors in. By avoiding overly ornate interior design and opting for smooth forms and natural textures, the apartments are tranquil, pleasing to the eye and most of all, functional for a wellness-forward life. The
incorporation of earthy and natural materials like local wood, paired with commissioned artwork by SFER IK, adds a soft final touch to the apartments’ interiors.
AZULIK Residences were created not only to encourage a deeper appreciation for natural living but to foster a strong community. Beyond the gardens and swimming pools, there are fitness-focused amenities, including the organically formed jungle gym and yoga shala. Residents are also privy to fine dining at the community’s on-site restaurant.
To encourage a relaxing oneness between modern living, fellowship and the wild elements of the surrounding environment, residents are granted access to AZULIK
Tulum’s wellness amenities. Community members can freely participate in the House of Ancestral Medicine’s ceremonies or fine dine in one of the resort’s many on-site restaurants. Additionally, residents have priority access to events at the resort and exclusive perks at the Maya Spa, boutiques and Beach Club. Owners also enjoy exclusive membership to the AZULIK Club, with the option to include their private residences in the property’s rental program.
The AZULIK Residences are both revolutionary in design and originality. Once complete, it will offer a serene retreat unlike any other—a masterclass in modern, open-air architecture and nature-infused living, set within the Mayan jungle.

Gluten Knead for No
Searching for a completely gluten-free restaurant? Look no further than Knead Luv Bakery.
By Nakayla Shakespeare
Photography by Patrick Corley
Got gluten? This is a question many people ask when looking at a restaurant’s menu. For some, going gluten-free is a lifestyle choice, but for others, the ingredient can have many health implications, often limiting the variety of food options that can be enjoyed. While there are substitutions for gluten, let’s be honest: There’s often a distinguishable difference between foods that contain gluten and those that don’t. Bridging the flavor and texture gap between foods that contain gluten and foods that don’t is a mission of Gladys Jahn, owner of the gluten-free restaurant, Knead Luv Bakery.
Jahn discovered she had celiac disease after months of doctor’s visits and chronic pain, “The doctors didn’t know what was wrong with me, I was very ill for several years,” Jahn says. “A doctor in Arizona did some
bloodwork and told me I have celiac; the problem was the food I was eating.”
After discovering she couldn’t enjoy the foods she once loved, Jahn had to pivot her mindset and become more conscious than ever about what she was putting into her body. Often disappointed with how the food tasted, Jahn and her husband, David, were determined to create a solution: enrich the flavor and master the texture of gluten-free cuisine.
“I asked my husband, ‘How many people are like me and struggling with celiac?’ We started doing the research, and we found that the numbers were really high,” Jahn says. “We started this mission of making good gluten-free food. My husband is very science-minded, and I love to bake, so we would tweak my recipes with this flour that
we created, and we began to make all of our food from scratch.”
Jahn’s recipes are remarkable and often indistinguishable from regular gluten-containing foods. “There have been so many people who have told me they can’t taste the difference when trying our pastries!” Jahn enthuses.
Some fan-favorite menu items for Knead Luv customers are cinnamon rolls, croissants, and biscuits and gravy. “We have expanded our menu as well to include chicken sandwiches, chicken and waffles, pizza and chicken parmesan,” Jahn adds.
Committed not only to providing the community with delectable gluten-free options, Jahn prides herself on serving a fully organic
menu free of seed oils. “We have a very clean ingredient label,” she says. “If you want to preserve your body for longevity, it starts with what you put in your mouth.”
Knead Luv Bakery is a labor of love rooted in community. “The community is so wonderful, they’ve made us who we are. Without the community, there’s no way we could have built what we have here,” Jahn points out. “This is their bakery. I want them to feel welcome when they step inside. It’s a place of peace and it’s a place of love.”
Jahn’s warm smile welcomes you at the door, and her kind energy vibrates off the walls, creating an atmosphere that draws you in. Her kindness and passion are reflected in her business and, more importantly, in her food.
“WE HAVE A VERY CLEAN INGREDIENT LABEL. IF YOU WANT TO PRESERVE YOUR BODY FOR LONGEVITY, IT STARTS WITH WHAT YOU PUT IN YOUR MOUTH.”

Greener live
Tips and tricks for a greener thumb from Creative Environments.
By Amalie Rhebeck
One of my biggest goals for 2026 is to have a greener thumb, not only to keep my houseplants and backyard landscape alive, but also to help them thrive. Like many of us, when it comes to plant care, I commit all the classic faux pas: overwatering, underwatering, improper sunlight and poor trimming. If you’re also looking to break these bad habits, it can feel intimidating. However, with the right tools and a little patience, filling your home and backyard with thriving flora is easier than you might think.
Sherilyn Palisoc, Chief Creative Officer at Tempe-based Creative Environments, shares some tips and tricks for nurturing your plants. For first-time gardeners, Palisoc recommends low-maintenance vegetation like the Barbados aloe, giant lady
slipper, Chihuahuan sage and ocotillo— especially the last two, which are native to the desert climate.
“Take a moment to observe the plant life flourishing in your community or nearby surroundings. Embracing indigenous plants is always a wise choice, as they are well-adapted to the local environment and support native wildlife,” she explains.
When it comes to watering, each species has its own unique needs. Rigid schedules aren’t beneficial. Instead, research how much water each plant needs and observe them closely for signs that they need more or less moisture. The tried-and-true method, according to the Morton Arboretum, to test if your plants need more water is by digging into the dirt with a trowel. If the soil is dry 3 to 4 inches below the surface, it’s time to water.
Proper sunlight is also vital. It’s essential to distinguish between sun-loving species, such as cacti, and more tropical plants like philodendrons, which thrive in indirect sunlight. Palisoc recommends that desert gardeners plant native species outdoors and keep their tropical plants and ferns indoors, where their lower-sunlight needs can be met.
Soil quality is another key factor. It’s also important to ensure you’re using well-draining soil for both your indoor and outdoor plants, to prevent root rot and water pooling. The U.S. Composting Council recommends adding organic compost to improve drainage and balance soil density.
“By considering these essential factors—tailoring your watering practices, choosing the right light conditions and maintaining healthy soil—you can cultivate an optimal environment that nurtures a diverse array of plants, allowing them to thrive and bring beauty to your space,” Palisoc says.
If you don’t have the time or space to maintain an outdoor garden, select indoor plants are a great alternative. Beyond their visual appeal, many houseplants can boost the air quality of your home. Palisoc recommends two hardy, health-boosting options: the snake plant (Sansevieria species) and the peace lily (Spathiphyllum).
Snake plants thrive in both low lighting and direct sunlight, making them perfect for beginners. They also filter air toxins, such as formaldehyde and benzene. For those who prefer a floral houseplant, the peace lily is an ideal choice, with its white flowers and large, green foliage. It’s a striking plant that thrives in indirect sunlight and is equally effective at purifying the air indoors.
As we head into a new year with wellness and gratitude in mind, it’s important to reflect on the gift of nature. Cultivating an outdoor garden or having a few houseplants is a rewarding and straightforward way to practice gratitude and boost your well-being. With these expert tips and tricks, growing a greener thumb has never been easier.

A House REBORN
Wrigley Mansion’s evolution from a private retreat to a public treasure.
By Teana Wagner
Photography by Chris Loomis
Perched high above Phoenix on a sunny hill, “La Colina Solana”— the Wrigley Mansion—has long stood as a monument of elegance and endurance. Built in 1931 by chewing-gum magnate William Wrigley Jr. as a gift for his wife, Ada, the home reflects his love for quality craftsmanship. It features vibrant Catalina tiles shipped from his factory on Catalina Island and a handpainted rotunda by Italian muralist Giovanni Battista Smeraldi, which still crowns the ceiling today.
When the late Geordie Hormel and his wife, Jamie purchased the property decades later, they saved it from demolition and reimagined it for the public. “Geordie had such a deep appreciation for history and authenticity,” Jamie recalls. “He didn’t want Phoenix to lose a place that held so much character and promise.”
Under Hormel’s guidance, the mansion continues to evolve. “We preserve what’s essential—the craftsmanship, the charm, the stories—but we’re not afraid to introduce updates that make it relevant and comfortable for today,” she says. “It’s about harmony, not contrast.”
A LIVING STORY IN DESIGN
That philosophy was brought to life during Inside the Wrigley Mansion: A Designer’s Perspective, a fall 2025 event hosted by Teana Wagner Design. Members of Phoenix’s design community, along with prominent designers and tastemakers, toured the mansion with interior designer Wendy Black Rodgers, who led its decade-long renovation.
Rodgers approached the project with deep respect for its history, preserving the mansion’s residential soul while refining it for hospitality. “I wanted to remember it’s a home,” she says. “It was not a bank lobby— it’s somebody’s home. But it can also be used as a venue.”
She kept the original Catalina tiles, repaired rather than replaced the worn wood floors and softened the formal rooms with a mix of reupholstered and newly acquired residential pieces. “So many people told me, ‘Thank God you didn’t get rid of those worn tiles,’” she says. “That’s the history.”
CULINARY CONTINUITY
That same spirit of blending heritage and innovation lives on in Christopher’s at Wrigley Mansion, where Chef Christopher Gross, a James Beard Award winner, turns architecture into experience.
Gross worked with architect Wendell Burnette to construct Christopher’s along an adjacent wall of the mansion. Drawing inspiration from Wendell’s work at Amangiri, the goal was subtlety—a guiding principle he calls the Venus Accord. “The idea was that the building would disappear—like it was never there,” Gross explains.
From the start, Gross envisioned a place where design, architecture, art, fire and food work in harmony. “We wanted to cook on an open fire in front of everyone,” Gross says. “It’s not all about me—it’s about the whole experience. It involves all the senses and gives you surprises.”
COMMUNITY AND CRAFT
From private estate to public treasure, the Wrigley Mansion is now a hub for creativity and connection. Nearly a century after its creation, the Wrigley Mansion endures not as a relic, but as a living expression of Phoenix’s creativity—proof that longevity in design comes not from preservation alone, but from the courage to keep the story alive.

At CIVANA
Wellness Resort
& Spa, guests can find healthy eats, a world-class spa connection and the tools to help them live better, longer lives.
By Teresa K. Traverse
Although just 10 miles from bustling North Scottsdale, CIVANA Wellness Resort & Spa feels secluded, like its own private paradise. Located in Carefree on more than 20 acres, CIVANA is a destination spa resort. With expansive skies and a landscape dotted with tall palm trees and cacti, guests are fully immersed in a true desert setting. Visitors can look forward to stellar programming, healthy cuisine and a world-class spa.
The central part of the resort is shaped like a horseshoe with a glittering pool at the center. After checking in and receiving a complimentary reusable water bottle, I went to my room. It was spacious and light-filled with neutral tones. My favorite feature? The oversized glass shower with a rainfall showerhead. Over the next two days, I enjoyed plenty of healthy food, a luxe spa treatment and a range of wellness classes.
I ordered a fresh Greek salad and a glass of green juice for lunch at Seed Café + Market. Seed is CIVANA’s casual dining option. I also enjoyed a decadent chocolate matcha muffin on another day. Terras is the resort’s more formal dining option. The poke
bowl—ahi tuna mix, sesame seeds, carrots, cucumber, edamame, watermelon radish, cabbage and forbidden rice—was easily the best dish I had here. It was colorful, fresh and texture rich.
FINDING TRANQUILITY AT THE SPA
The entrance to CIVANA’s spa is grand, with a massive square arch flanked by fire features. It set the stage for an exceptional experience. After checking in at the front desk, I was given a tour of the expansive space. I slipped into my robe and relaxed in the eucalyptus steam room before heading to the crown jewel of the spa: the Aqua Therapy Circuit.
This room features a cold pool, two warm pools, one sauna and a cold plunge shower. CIVANA recommends that spa-goers spend time there before and after treatments. I rotated among them to kick off my relaxation journey. In the sauna, I had a wonderful conversation with other CIVANA guests. We chatted about the classes we had attended

and what we took away from each. I then indulged in the spa’s outdoor lounge overlooking the rolling mountains surrounding the resort. My massage therapist collected me from the lounge, then used hot stones and oil to unwind my tight muscles. I left feeling rejuvenated and utterly relaxed.
ENJOYING ROBUST PROGRAMMING
CIVANA is best known for its comprehensive wellness offerings. The resort boasts more than 100 classes weekly. When I first arrived, I remember feeling overwhelmed by the sheer number of options, but I quickly found a natural rhythm to my days. Being at CIVANA feels like your only objective in life is to take wellness classes. I can only speak for myself, but that’s my idea of heaven.
The instructors often encouraged us to share our personal experiences in response to the prompts during classes. Hearing other people’s stories made me feel more connected to the other guests I saw during class and throughout the property. I took classes in chakra meditation, yoga flow, journaling, “healing the inner child” and two sleep meditation classes.
One of my absolute favorites was the guided labyrinth walking class. It was such a soothing experience—you tune out the world and simply focus on walking in a circle and on what the instructor is saying.
FINDING LONGEVITY AT CIVANA
In keeping with modern wellness trends, CIVANA has longevity offerings on the menu. Recently, CIVANA hosted a “Olistico Life Protocol: Biohack Your Biology & Reverse Your Age Retreat.” Longevity and wellness advocate Candice Barley hosted this four-day getaway. During this time, participants took workshops on peptides, reducing inflammation and optimizing longevity. The main goal of the retreat was to support graceful aging.
“Longevity today is defined not merely by the number of years lived, but by the quality of those years. As emerging research continues to underscore the connection between neuroplasticity, well-being and lifespan, travelers are increasingly seeking experiences that nurture not only physical health, but also mental clarity, emotional resilience, spiritual depth and meaningful connection,” says Julia Lavine, CIVANA’s chief brand officer.
“At CIVANA, we recognize this shift— wellness travel is more than just a reset, but a long-term investment in how individuals age, thrive and engage with their lives,” she notes. “Our programming is thoughtfully designed to equip guests with evidence-based practices that support lasting vitality far beyond their time with us.”

Beauty
This home’s quiet elegance reveals how restraint can be the ultimate expression of luxury.
By Sam Micatrotto
Photography by Taylor Hall O'Brien
Set against the picturesque backdrop of Paradise Valley, a new, first-of-its-kind home rises from the Sonoran Desert with quiet conviction. Its strength lies not in showy gestures or fleeting trends, but in restraint. Every line, texture and material is purposeful, reflecting a philosophy that honors longevity and nature.
This is the philosophy behind “Return to Simplicity”, a residence born from a collaboration between Rossland Investment Group, Urban Design Associates, Arcadia Custom Builders, Wolfe Studios and Berghoff Design Group. At its heart lies a commitment to biophilic design. This concept recognizes our innate human need for connection to nature and emphasizes the use of light, water and organic materials within built environments. For Kylie Wolfe, principal designer at Wolfe Studios, the project represents a chance to prove that luxury and wellness need not be opposing forces.
“Everything in this home was conceived with nature in mind,” Wolfe says. “We carried honest, natural materials from indoors to out, so the only separation is glass. The palette is intentionally quiet—subtle in color, rich in texture—so the rooms feel calm yet visually layered. That restraint, paired with material integrity, is what makes the design timeless. We weren’t chasing trends; we were pursuing quiet materiality at its purest.”
The directive was clear: create a European sensibility grounded in timeless finishes. What emerged was a highly collaborative process where every detail carries intention. From room to room, the relationship between architecture and interiors becomes impossible to ignore. The two are in constant conversation.
THE POWER OF MATERIAL HONESTY
A core principle that runs through every room is that materials appear as they truly are. Wood looks like wood, stone looks like stone and metals are left as solid, living finishes. This honesty in materiality was non-negotiable.
“Material honesty was our starting point,” Wolfe says. “No faux grains, no artificial colors, no heavy coatings. That clarity guided every choice—from species and stone selection to profiles and edge details—so the home feels authentic and quietly luxurious.”
The foundation of the house exemplifies this commitment. Natural limestone flooring flows from inside to outside, creating a lasting connection between the house and the landscape.
The raw limestone hearths deserve particular attention. The stone was reclaimed from old steps excavated from historic sites, which now brings depth and literal history to this house. This sourcing strategy accomplishes something difficult: it makes a luxury home feel connected to something larger than itself. The stones carry the wear of age, the marks of countless feet, a narrative that no new material could replicate.
Millwork throughout is white oak, chosen for its durability and the graceful way it patinas over time. Walls feature hand-troweled plaster, a standard practice of Wolfe’s and time-tested technique once used in ancient dwellings. These selections reveal an understanding that true luxury is often built to endure rather than to impress.
WELLNESS BY DESIGN
Beyond mere aesthetics, Wolfe approached this project, as she does with all her projects, with an explicit goal of
creating spaces that actively support the well-being of those who inhabit them.
“Our environments shape us—emotionally and physically,” Wolfe emphasizes. “Design can influence how well we sleep, how deeply we breathe, how effortlessly we move through a space and how aligned our circadian rhythm is with nature. That impact is why I entered this industry. I felt firsthand how my surroundings affected my well-being, and it inspired me to create homes that support the daily health of our clients.”
This philosophy informed decisions both visible and invisible. Natural light optimization was built into the spatial design from the beginning. Expansive windows frame views of Camelback Mountain, Piestewa Peak and Mummy Mountain, turning the desert landscape into living art that shifts with the light and seasons, this approach maximizing daylight exposure, improving mood
and energy efficiency while creating connections to the circadian rhythms that regulate human biology.
Water elements were incorporated throughout, including fountains and reflection pools, which create calming atmospheres and natural cooling. These features serve a practical purpose in the desert climate while satisfying a more profound human need for the presence of water.
One principle ties the entire home together, though it may not be immediately obvious: symmetry. This is not symmetry as a visual gimmick but a tool for creating psychological ease.
“Symmetry is a throughline,” Wolfe notes. “It’s a core Wolfe Studios principle, and Rossland Investment Group shared that conviction. We refined alignments and sightlines throughout— openings, hearths and millwork—to achieve a calm visual rhythm. Visitors often describe an immediate sense of balance when they enter, which is exactly the feeling we hoped to create.”
LUXURY REDEFINED
In an industry where luxury is often measured by square footage and flashy statement pieces, “Return to Simplicity” proposes an alternative definition. What emerged is a vision in which high-end design and environmental responsibility are not competing priorities but complementary goals.
“To us, luxury begins with Mother Nature,” Wolfe says. “Real materials, honest craft and thoughtful sourcing. Natural, solid materials typically require fewer chemical treatments, reduce off-gassing and can often be sourced closer to home, lowering transport impacts. When a room belongs to its site and feels connected to the landscape rather than manufactured, you sense ease instead of distraction. That’s a sustainable luxury.”
The project represents a larger shift in how we think about residential design. Rather than imposing a vision onto a landscape, the home is ingrained in it. The materials feel rooted in place, and the spaces honor the desert light and the distant mountains.
In a world of excess, “Return to Simplicity” suggests that the most luxurious spaces are often those that step back and let nature, light and honest materials do the work. It is an elegant argument for restraint and a reminder that, sometimes, less really is more.

Luxuries Longevity
The rise of wellness destinations and how to bring them home.
By Bailey Badillo
Aself-care day used to mean getting a spa treatment, attending a yoga class and grabbing a green smoothie after. Of course, those are still part of the ritual, but today wellness is about investing in something more holistic. In other words, wellness is no longer a single act; it’s a destination, a lifestyle, a commitment to longevity.
Across Arizona, Southern California and beyond, luxury resorts are transforming from pampering getaways into full-scale wellness ecosystems—blending data-driven diagnostics, functional movement and recovery science with nature, design and a bit of indulgence.
WHAT DEFINES A WELLNESS DESTINATION?
Being the buzzword that it is, you’ll find a lot of resorts claiming to have wellness elements. But a wellness destination is entirely different. According to the Wellness Tourism
Association, a true wellness destination is “a place that promotes and supports wellness as an integral part of life within its community and economy.” That means more than an on-site spa or healthy menu options. The environment is designed around vitality: from nutrition and movement to rest, reflection and spiritual restoration.
Think biophilic architecture, chefs collaborating with nutritionists, or medical-grade diagnostics alongside aromatherapy and acupuncture. These destinations don’t just help you enjoy an escape from life; they help to optimize it. Here are three ICONIC wellness destinations to explore.
CANYON RANCH TUCSON
In the Catalina Foothills of Southern Arizona, Canyon Ranch has long been a Photo courtesy

Malibu
pioneer in integrative wellness. One of their newest programs is the LONGEVITY8 Retreat. Hailed by the Michelin Guide as the No.1 wellness retreat in the Americas, this four-day stay is a comprehensive evaluation that applies cutting-edge data to improve personal well-being.
During your stay, you’ll undergo 15 non-invasive diagnostic tests and 200-plus biomarker tests, including lab panels, electrocardiograms, bone density evaluations and more. You’ll then meet one-on-one with medical doctors and directors across eight core pillars: movement, sleep, mental and emotional health, nutrition, spiritual wellness, strength, endurance and medical insight. Part of the experience includes blood and genetic testing to reveal how your body metabolizes nutrients, absorbs vitamins and
responds to different foods, giving you insight into the best diet to follow to take wellness home with you.
Guests arrive for luxury—and they find that in the meals and accommodations—but they leave with a personalized blueprint for living longer and better.
THE RANCH MALIBU
Tucked high in the Santa Monica Mountains with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, The Ranch Malibu has earned its reputation as the most exclusive “luxury boot camp” in the country, making it an ICONIC destination in California.
Here, you can book a private experience or go with 25 or more people for a group wellness getaway. The approach is equal
parts rigor and restoration: four-hour guided hikes, plant-based meals grown onsite, cold plunges, infrared saunas and massage therapy. Beyond that, you can add IV therapy, acupuncture and cupping, cholesterol testing and more for a bespoke wellness experience. While here, a digital detox is part of the process: Wi-Fi is limited and TVs and screens are scarce and discouraged, because according to The Ranch, “Guests come to recalibrate their minds and bodies—detoxing from habits, noise and stress.”
It’s no wonder the property attracts executives, athletes and A-list creatives seeking transformation without distraction.
ANDAZ SCOTTSDALE RESORT & BUNGALOWS
Wellness meets artistry at this ICONIC destination, the Andaz Scottsdale Resort
& Bungalows. Inspired by the surrounding Sonoran landscape, this boutique resort’s Palo Verde Spa & Apothecary draws less on the latest technology and more on indigenous botanicals and desert minerals for its treatments. Here, you can work with an apothecary consultant who creates bespoke aromatherapy blends and guides you toward balance and peace of mind. You can also choose a more fitness-focused getaway with the Sonoran Wellness Suites, featuring in-room Tonal smart-gym systems, ergonomic furnishings and circadian-mimicking lighting.
“Every corner of the property is designed for creative rest,” says the resort team. “We wanted to build an environment that inspires reflection as much as rejuvenation.” Guests can schedule custom bodywork
sessions, participate in guided sound-bath meditation or sip adaptogenic tonics poolside.
BRINGING WELLNESS & LONGEVITY INTO THE HOME, ACCORDING TO A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
The most significant aspect of this growing wellness movement is that it’s not meant to be a weekend getaway but a lifestyle. The luxury of longevity comes from integrating these principles into everyday life.
Dr. Ashley Wright, DPT, known professionally as The Healthspan Doc, is a Gilbert, Arizona–based physical therapist and performance specialist who bridges sports medicine, regenerative therapy and longevity
science. According to Wright, here are some of the best ways to incorporate wellness and longevity in your home.
MOVEMENT AS MEDICINE
“In a wellness industry overflowing with quick fixes, the foundation is still movement,” says Wright. “Our posture, movement and muscle balance are the true mirrors of longevity. If we can restore alignment and activate the right muscles, we can reverse decades of exertion and protect every system in the body—from joint integrity to hormone regulation.”
Her signature tool, dry needling with electrical stimulation, “acts like a reset button for the neuromuscular system,” retraining dormant muscle groups and accelerating tissue healing.

Wright advises those at home: “Move daily, with intention. Even ten minutes of mobility, posture work, or resistance training is an investment in your healthspan.”
COLD PLUNGES & SAUNAS
The contrast-therapy trend isn’t a fad; it’s physiology.
“Alternating between heat and cold improves circulation, reduces inflammation and supports recovery,” Dr. Wright says.
“Investing in both a sauna and a cold plunge pool is investing in your health.”
If you don’t have space for a dedicated plunge or want an alternative method, a cold shower paired with an at-home infrared sauna blanket can offer benefits reminiscent of spa protocols.
PRECISION NUTRITION & BIO-INDIVIDUALITY
One of the things you’ll notice at these wellness destinations is that the quality
of the food matters more than the diet. Because fad diets simply aren’t effective for everyone, says Wright. “There’s no one diet that works for everyone,” she explains. “Your genetics, hormones and lifestyle determine how you metabolize nutrients and recover.”
Instead of following trends like keto or intermittent fasting, she guides clients toward diets that support cellular repair, detoxification and energy balance. “Eat for your
Photo courtest of Andaz Scottsdale
body’s chemistry—not for what’s trending on social media,” she advises.
According to Wright, eating for your body’s chemistry means taking the guesswork out of nutrition with DNA-based testing. These tests come from blood work with a doctor— such as those with Canyon Ranch Tucson or even a home-test kit like 3x4 Genetics— and reveal how your body processes fats, carbs, caffeine, vitamins and how efficiently it detoxifies.
“Your genetics can tell you whether you thrive on more complex carbs or healthy fats, or if you need extra antioxidants to support slower detox pathways,” she points out.
These tests analyze gene markers tied to metabolism, inflammation and nutrient absorption, creating a roadmap for truly personalized nutrition.
PURPOSEFUL PHYSICAL GOALS
After receiving your results and game plans at a wellness retreat, Wright encourages clients of all ages to set tangible physical goals.
“It doesn’t have to be running a marathon,” she says. “It can be hiking with your kids without pain, or keeping your stride length as you age. Setting a goal keeps your nervous system engaged—it’s preventative medicine in motion.”
THE FUTURE OF WELLNESS IS THE PRESENT LUXURY
Luxury wellness is no longer about indulgence; it’s about intention. From the data-driven programs of Canyon Ranch to the discipline of The Ranch Malibu and the desert-inspired artistry of Andaz Scottsdale, these destinations redefine what it means to Live Beautifully.
But the most transformative journey begins at home. As Wright puts it, “Healthspan isn’t just the number of years you live free of disease—it’s the quality of those years. It’s the joy of waking up clear-minded, pain-free and ready to do something you love.”
Whether through movement, mindful design or nutrition tailored to your biology, the new luxury is longevity itself—a life beautifully, intentionally and vibrantly lived.
A Healthy, Happy Home
In Scottsdale, an elegant home is healthy and sustainable.
By Nora Burba Trulsson // Photography by Kevin Brost
In Scottsdale, a newly refreshed home is a study in elegant design. Against a backdrop of crisp white walls and warm oak flooring, comfortable furnishings with classic lines and a mix of natural fabrics, metal and wood invite visitors to linger over conversations and meals.
At first glance, this transitional-contemporary home by interior designer Tanya Shively, founder of Sesshu Design Associates, seems to have a silver, gray and blue palette. But just below the surface, the abode’s true color might be green—as in sustainable and healthy. Scottsdale-based Shively, a leader in healthy home design, crafted a residence that speaks to the client’s wellness as much as her desire for a stylish environment.
The project’s backstory began when the client developed a toxic reaction to mold in her previous home. “She found another
house that dates to the 1980s and asked me to do what we thought would just be a facelift, updating it for aesthetics,” recalls Shively, who founded her firm in 2005. “But when we ripped out a cabinet and opened up some walls, we found mold there, too. The project’s scope grew.”
Shively and her team mitigated the mold issue in the 4,500-square-foot main house and 1,800-square-foot guest quarters, then addressed the homeowner’s ongoing interest in creating a healthy place to live. “Our main focus was to make the home healthy, beautiful and functional,” Shively explains. “A lot of emphasis went into behind-thescenes efforts.”
One issue the designer tackled was the risk of EMF (electromagnetic field), which some research suggests can lead to adverse health effects with long-term exposure.
“We installed a wireless router that could be turned off at night, and brought in an EMF consultant, who helped us focus on reducing the exposure in the primary suite,” the designer says. “We put metal in the walls, used metallic underlayer of paint on the exterior and hard-wired everything.”
Plastic plumbing lines were replaced with healthier copper ones, and a new HVAC system and ductwork were installed for efficiency and to reduce toxicity. In the primary suite, a new humidifier added just the right amount of moisture to the air, as did a fountain designed by Shively just inside the front entry. In the backyard, the existing pool’s chlorine-based system was replaced with a hyper-oxygenated unit.
Shively dug even deeper into meeting the homeowner’s health needs by creating an exercise and hot yoga space and adding a

hyperbaric oxygen chamber in the guest house. In the kitchen, she installed a steam oven as a healthy alternative to a microwave.
“There was a lot that happened in the house before we even got to the furnishings,” Shively notes. Indeed, the designer also suggested architectural renovations to the home, including expanding the kitchen, reconfiguring the primary bathroom, leveling the dining room ceiling to create a more intimate setting and transforming an unused attic corner into a reading nook, which can be reached by a new, customdesigned spiral staircase.
The walls were done in low-VOC paint and Venetian plaster and oak flooring was finished with natural oils and waxes, which help keep off-gassing to a minimum. Wool
area rugs were chosen for texture underfoot, and natural fabrics were selected for chairs, sofas and draperies.
Despite the home’s complex details, it is refined and gracious. With light pouring in from a tall arched window, the living room is detailed with classic wainscoting and full-length draperies that add softness. A deep, cushy sofa anchors the space, while an abstract painting and a contemporary area rug add subtle color.
In the dining room, a coved ceiling provides a luminous lid for the long wooden table and curvaceous chairs. The client fell in love with richly patterned Klondike quartz in a slab warehouse, which Shively installed as a dramatic, natural art piece to surround the fireplace in the family room. The final ambiance is chic and serene, not clinical and sterile.
“Creating a sustainable, healthy home is important to me in all of my projects,” Shively reflects. “But here, as with all the homes I design, it’s not obvious—it’s not a certain ‘look.’ Livability and aesthetics are important, too.”
ROCK YOUR
BodyHoliday is the world’s leading wellness resort located on a secluded beach in Saint Lucia.
By Jodi Stokes
Imagine strolling along a white sandy shoreline, waves gently lapping at the shore as warm sunlight and a soft breeze wrap around you; it’s pure serenity. Now, picture an entire resort devoted to wellness, set against this breathtaking coastal backdrop.
BodyHoliday is an all-inclusive sanctuary of wellness and discovery, designed to ease the stresses of modern life. Nestled on a pristine crescent-shaped beach and embraced by lush tropical gardens, the resort offers a serene escape in a natural setting.
The resort includes just about everything you could desire without distracting from its promise to its guests: “Give us your body for a week, and we’ll give you back your mind.” How wonderful is that?
Let me take you through my journey at this remarkable resort—an experience that, without question, transformed my life.
After a long day of travel, I was greeted by a warm and welcoming staff who handed me a cool, refreshing turmeric and ginger elixir along with my schedule of treatments for the week. Upon arriving at the beachfront room, I was welcomed with thoughtful touches— healthy snacks, sunscreen, cozy slippers and a selection of cool refreshments, including wine and local beer. I took a moment to take in my surroundings and decompress.
That evening, I enjoyed a fabulous buffet on the beach—beautiful salads with local
Between the sunset, the ocean waves and the laughter of happy people, I felt so at peace and ready to start my adventure.
I woke up refreshed. Once I brewed a cup of coffee, I sat on the terrace, watching guests make their way to a morning yoga class in a gorgeous Tiki-style building on stilts over the water.
I checked the activity board for things to do. This ranged from yoga, cycling, Caribbean dance on the beach, strength or stretch classes, hikes, barre, water exercise, kayaking, snorkeling, tennis, archery, pickleball and more. As a fitness expert, I wanted to do them all, but there wasn’t enough time in the day.
The first class that piqued my interest was the beginner’s cycling class—but it didn’t feel like a beginner’s class. I taught cycle classes for about 20 years, and this instructor was relentless! We were out of the saddle for at least two minutes in “sprint” mode. Don’t get me wrong, I loved it. The energy, vitality and help the instructor offered to others, who were true beginners, was perfect. It was a great, sweaty start.
Breakfast was beyond bountiful. It included a buffet of homemade granolas, fresh fruit, yogurt, homemade breads and jams, freshly squeezed juices, omelets made to your liking, meats and vegan options.
After breakfast, I was off to the spa; getting there was a hike in and of itself. I counted the stairs up—there were 87 to be exact. The architecture resembled a Buddhist temple, covered with plant life and overlooking the ocean. Within, there were about 50 or more rooms for treatments, including massages, facials, aloe rejuvenation for sunburns, foot and body scrubs, herbal wraps, scalp massages, reiki, ayurvedically inspired medical treatments, weight loss treatments and red light therapy, to name a few.
I chose the 90-minute massage for my first day. I have had many massages, and this was one of the best. The treatment began with a form to fill out about my ayurvedic
dosha. Doshas are the three energies found in nature and in the human body. The doshas are responsible for our bodies, minds, emotions and thoughts. Hence, they work with your energies to provide the best treatment and experience possible.
After a rejuvenating massage and a snack at the Wellness Café, I was ready for the water exercise class. I am an author in this field and have been teaching water exercises for more than 40 years, so I was excited to see how the class was led, and it was phenomenal. The deck pulsed with energy as everyone moved to the beat, dancing under the blazing sun. The leaders were wellversed, professional, funny and dedicated; it was an incredible workout.
The ITAL experience is a must. Even though it’s not included in the all-inclusive package, it’s worth it. It begins with a guided tour through the resort’s gardens, where you pick herbs and learn about all their medicinal properties. These amazing plants include soursop, moringa, sea moss and turmeric. Next, you gather your chosen ingredients and make your way to the hilltop, where a table adorned with fresh flowers overlooks the ocean. A team of chefs awaits, ready to transform your garden harvest into a personalized, unforgettable meal.
If you’re craving food, there are six restaurants to choose from. The resort’s signature restaurant, Tao, has fine dining options. If you’re seeking something on the casual side, Cariblue offers an international dinner menu, while Cariblue Windows provides a set menu with thoughtful wine pairings. The Wellness Cafe and Pavilion Grill are also great options for quick bites.
For night owls seeking late-night entertainment, a lively piano bar keeps the music going until 1 a.m. Other entertainment includes game nights, ping-pong tournaments and music to suit every taste.
BodyHoliday is more than a first-class accommodation, international cuisine, buffet experiences, exercise, activities and health and wellness offerings. It is a one-of-a-kind resort designed to provide the most relaxing and rejuvenating experience possible, bringing you back to yourself.

Engines From Olives to
The Queen Creek Olive Mill’s quality products and solid reputation stem from the team’s passion for craftsmanship and excellence.
By Madeleine Perich
Surrounded by rows of silvery-green olive trees, the Queen Creek Olive Mill—also known as the “Mill”—celebrates the craft of producing fresh, high-quality extra virgin olive oil in the heart of the Sonoran Desert. Blending Mediterranean tradition with Arizona’s agricultural spirit, this family-owned farm has become a beloved destination for food lovers, travelers and locals alike — a place where sustainability, community and taste come together under the desert sun.
Not only is the Mill Arizona’s only working olive farm and mill, but it’s also a testament to the vision and passion of the Rea family, whose journey began in 1997. Originally from Detroit, Perry and Brenda Rea were drawn to Arizona’s sunshine and olive trees during family vacations. Coming from a strong Italian background, their son and company president, John Rea, says, “Olive oil is very entangled with Italian culture.”
A former automotive executive, Perry traded engines for olives, taking a leap of faith into an entirely new business venture. With no formal training, he taught himself the art and science of olive oil production. What began as planting a few trees “just to give it a try” has grown into a thriving 100-acre farm with more than 7,000 trees.
Today, the Mill is a gathering place, featuring farm tours, festivals and a taste of
sustainable, field-to-fork living. “Our mission is to produce honest, high-quality products while educating people about extra virgin olive oils,” John explains.
For the Reas, olive oil isn’t just a pantry staple — it’s a lifestyle. “One of the biggest health benefits of olive oil is heart health,” John says. “It’s been proven to lower LDL cholesterol, raise HDL, reduce blood pressure and decrease the risk of stroke.”
Olive oil is also rich in polyphenols, antioxidants that fight inflammation and give oil its peppery bite. “If you harvest early when the olives are green, you get a more robust oil with a higher polyphenol count — it’s kind of like nature’s ibuprofen.”
The Queen Creek Olive Mill’s success is also rooted in its environment. “We don’t have to use pesticides or herbicides, and we never would,” John states. “We just don’t have the pests that other regions deal with. It’s actually a great place to grow.”
Farming with organic practices, the Mill produces a purer oil that captures the fruit’s authentic flavor while honoring the integrity of the land through sustainable farming practices.
In an era of industrialized agriculture, the Queen Creek Olive Mill reminds us that good food begins with good people and good practices, and that passion, patience and respect for the land can transform even an arid desert into something extraordinary.
