Wow what a year that was! ... War in Europe, record highs of inflation, runaway energy costs, Marmite Musk taking over Twitter, International investors collectively acting stunned at the likelihood of some young kid running off with their crypto billions! (See page 82) There was even a winter World Cup which despite all of its human rights and scandal issues has since been proclaimed by many as “the best ever”. The final itself certainly provided much drama with a 6 goal thriller culminating with an Argentine victory in a penalty shootout. The drama continued after the final whistle with French president Macron doing a great job of looking forlorn for his fallen nation right up until that photo oppurtunity with Messi... (please let go of his hand) and then the moment the football world had waited so long for finally arrived, time for the diminutive genius to lift the coveted trophy in his nations colours, but wait... Every wizard needs a cape, right! Oh well, there’s always next time! As Paris’s most famous fictional ex-pat resident, Emily Cooper returns to our screens, we take a look at the actress Lily Collins, who plays the occasionally misfortunate, yet steadfastly cheerful protagonist.

Two years ago, when I needed a little escapism during our seemingly endless lockdown, ‘Emily In Paris’ landed in my life. What started as a mindless flick through Netflix’s ‘cheese’ section, ended in a binge-watching obsession where I was drawn daily into Emilys world. Breathtakingly gorgeous backdrops, the latest haute couture, mouthwatering pastries, impossibly attractive actors and plot lines as delightful as they were unbelievable. ‘Oh là là !’ Yes, it was romantic comedy overload, but once I started, I couldn’t stop.

Emily is to Generation Z what Sex And The City‘s Carrie Bradshaw was to millennials. With websites and social media pages popping up dedicated solely to the shows fashion choices, it wasn’t long before I had bought myself a beret and was driving my boyfriend insane with my french chic inspired outfits and the daily question of ‘Would Emily wear this?’ So you can imagine the groans when series three dropped. Thankfully, I’d saved my trump card of having to sit through every game in the World cup, including certain African nations I’m hadn’t heard of. Though to be fair, I did enjoy the uplifting Sengalise supporters dance-a-thon and Brazils rhythmic goal celebrations, almost as much as hearing ex Man United legend, Roy Keane, comparing them to Strictly Come Dancing.

Right, enough about my tv viewing habits, let’s take a delve into the life of the star of the show, double Golden Globe Award nominee, Lily Collins.

Fame and Fortune

When Collins first arrived on the scene back in the early 2010s, her breakout roles came in the form of epic fantasy movies such as Mirror Mirror and The Mortal Instruments or modern love stories like Love, Rosie. In recent years, she has turned towards heavier themes, from the dark drama To the Bone which detailed the journey of her character’s struggle with anorexia to appearing in the beautifully artsy ode to Old Hollywood, Mank.

Acting is only one of Collins many talents, she is also a successful model,

producer and author. In 2012 she penned her groundbreaking debut essay collection, where she bravely opened up about having an eating disorder as a teenager. This book gave her the freedom to open up about her already public life in a more honest and heartfelt way.

Fashion Forward

Lagerfeld muse, brows icon and brand ambassador of Lancome, Collins is a genuine style icon who consistently makes the best-dressed lists. From Giambattista Valli floral couture gowns to Dolce & Gabbana tuxes with slicked back hair and a statement red lip, she doesn’t follow trends but sets them.

Collins has always had an undeniable fashion sense. In 2007, she made her debut into society at the Bal des débutantes in Paris wearing a Chanel gown, which was featured in the episode “Paris Changes Everything” in the third season of The Hills.

‘Fashion has always been such a beautiful way for me to express myself,’ she explained in a recent interview. ‘From a young age, I used it to tell stories and play. It’s a completely subjective art form and judgment really has no place in it. Fashion can be the ultimate experiment through which you discover yourself.’

As Collins’ career has evolved from minor to lead roles, her style has followed suit. Nowadays, she leans towards a more feminine look with a touch of edge. When explaining to Coveteur Magazine how her character roles influence her fashion style she said, ‘I think every character I play informs me of new fashion personalities, if you will. When I did Mortal Instruments, and it was more gothic and dark—there was a lot of black and leather and stuff like that—I started incorporating more of a darker ‘rock and roll’ feel. Then when I did Mirror, Mirror, it was obviously more princess-y and more feminine and regal.’

just all of those things all at once, and it was never too much for Emily. I get to express myself in different ways through my characters and through fashion.’

All about the genes

Lily is the daughter of Genesis frontman, Phil Collins, (could I love her anymore?) and his second wife, Jill Tavelman. Not one to remain in her father’s shadow, she considered changing her last name in order to be taken more seriously as an actress. In the end, it was watching how her father successfully handled fame, that helped her to navigate her way through life in the pubic eye.

‘I remember being a kid at Disneyland with my dad and having someone come up and ask him for a photo. And I think I was just so confused because I was, like, well, Disneyland has nothing to do with him,’ she said. ‘But it was that kind of recognition no matter where he went that he had touched the life of somebody in a very profound way.’

After the media frenzy surrounding her parents’ divorce Collins and his future relationships, she chose to keep her personal life private and doesn’t often talk about her father or their relationship.

‘Starting out, when I was younger, I had lots of things taken out of context in interviews,‘ she explained to Elle Magazine. ‘I couldn’t be a more proud daughter, a more loving daughter. Like, it’s my dad! I love him and I am an in awe individual, I’ve always wanted to be me, and to have my own path and my own journey and my own failures and successes and all those things, like any individual wants. And, at the beginning, when I hadn’t done any of those things yet, I was anticipating people only being interested in my family. Of course, that’s the way in which the world works and a

lot of media works. But I got frustrated being asked those questions. It didn’t mean that I didn’t love or respect my dad, it doesn’t change how I felt about my family. I just really didn’t want that to be my narrative.’

A groovy kind of love

In 2021 Collins wed filmmaker Charlie McDowell after two years of dating. In an intimate ceremony in the Colorado mountains, Collins wore custom Ralph

She shared with the world via instagram a photo of the pair enjoying their wedding day bliss, alongside the words. ‘I’ve never wanted to be someone’s someone more than I do yours, and now I get to be your wife. We officially became each other’s forever. I love you beyond.’

Collins told E! News being married made her feel as though she could ‘conquer anything’ with her husband by her side. ‘We’ve been through so many changes globally, personally, and to be able to have a partner next to you that makes you laugh in times when you need it the most and helps you emotionally get through things, like moving to a foreign country for four months,’ she said. ‘I just feel so grateful that I have someone next to me to be able to accomplish that and your best friend with you all the time.’

Putting the world to rights

The actress is an outspoken antibullying advocate and is serving as a Celebrity Ambassador to anti-bullying organisation Bystander Revolution.‘Bystander Revolution’s mission and the work they’ve done is so inspiring and close to my heart,’ she explained. ‘Through open communication, inclusion, and kindness we all have the ability to change the culture and stop bullying from being the norm. the smallest simplest acts can have the biggest, most memorable impact.’

Lauren, joining a very elite group of brides for whom the American brand has designed bespoke wedding gowns. The dress was inspired by her ‘Western Americana meets British Victorian’ Pinterest board. The turtleneck gown and hooded cape featured Swarovski-beaded flowers and silk organza petals, which took more than 200 hours to complete.

She is also doing her part to improve the lives of vulnerable children, by joining her friend, Twilight and The Batman star, Robert Pattinson, as a GO Campaign Ambassador. The GO organization works to provide children and young adults with access to education, medical care, shelter, food, and clean water.

With so much riding on the success of the third season of Emily in Paris, what can fans expect? Collins has promised that all the things that viewers have come to know and love will be amped up. ‘More love triangles, more drama, more laughs, more fashion, more locations, more France!’ she shared. ‘Fans should brace themselves for a lot of cliffhangers.’

Whatever happens with the season three, Collins can count on at least two avid fans: my boyfriend and I will definitely be watching.

Sam Smith’s fourth studio LP will feature collaborations with Ed Sheeran, Jessie Reyez, Koffee and Kim Petras. Talking of the album Sam shared “It feels like emotional, sexual, and spiritual liberation. It was beautiful, with this album, to sing freely again. Oddly, it feels like my first-ever record. And it feels like a coming of age. I’m feeling overwhelmed and emotional as I start to let go of Gloria and hand this work over to you. It has been magical in every way to make this piece of music and by giving this record to you I am giving you a piece of my heart.” This will be Sam’s first album drop in three years and boasts 13 tracks including two interludes. Smith worked on the new album in Los Angeles, Jamaica, and London and tapped into past collaborators such as Jimmy Napes, Stargate, and ILYA.

3IGGY POP – Every Loser

The rocker’s follow-up to 2019’s Free arrives this month via Atlantic records and producer Andrew Watt’s Gold Tooth Records. The album includes the latest single ‘Frenzy’ featuring contributions from Watt, Guns N Roses’ Duff McKagan, Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ Chad Smith and others. The album features cover art by the famed Raymond Pettibon.

Drag icon, RuPaul reveals their latest album, Black Butta, with brand-new original tracks. The TV series is written and executive produced by Craig Mazin, whose past notable works include HBO’s Chernobyl, and Neil Druckmann, the Director of The Last of Us video game series.

Are you a fan of That 70’s Show? Then good news… Spinoff series That 90’s Show starts this month. Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp are back two decades later to shape the growing minds of their teenage granddaughter and her new group of friends. The show will follow Leia Forman, daughter of Eric and Donna, as she visits her grandparents, Red and Kitty, for the summer in Point Place. While in Point Place, Leia quickly bonds and befriends the neighbourhood kids. Expect guest appearances from most of the That ’70s Show cast, such as Topher Grace, Laura Prepon, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Wilmer Valderrama, and Tommy Chong.

Reasons to be Cheerful

The phenomenal box office success of last year’s Tom Cruise: Maver.... sorry, TOP GUN: Maverick ($1.5 billion worldwide) proves two things: At 60, the pint-sized scientologist’s still got it, and audiences are clearly ready to return to the cinema in their droves, provided the product is right. The emotionally-charged actioner was a high water mark in what was otherwise a pretty lacklustre year, with several high-profile films falling short of expectations and smaller hopefuls failing to break out. It’s not been an easy ride for cinemas since 2020, the pandemic further squeezing the narrow margins already threatened by the streaming wars, but there’s a good slate of upcoming releases to look forward to, so grab your popcorn and enjoy an intro to some of 2023’s most anticipated movies:

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

Though you’re unlikely to catch him singing with a clownfish, Jason Momoa’s fishy hero proved the surprise jewel in DC’s crown, eclipsing the likes of even Batman and Superman with its monster haul of $1.15 billion in 2018. The first film was a ton of colourful fun, erring on just the right side of ridiculous (The Fish and the Furious anyone?..) and the sequel promises to double down on everything viewers loved... except maybe Amber Heard.

Guardians of The Galaxy Vol 3

After some underachieving misfires in Phase 4, Marvel will be hoping James Gunn’s final film before beginning his co-CEO tenure at rival DC Studios maintains the popularity of his previous efforts. If the recently released holiday special is anything to go by, his knack for marrying quirky characters, creative action, laugh out loud one-liners and tear-jerking sentiment is undiminished.

Barbie

Director Greta Gerwig (Academy award nominated Ladybird and Little Women) admits this project could conceivably be a careerender, weighed down by people’s pre-conceptions of what a Barbie film could and should be. She intends to fox all expectations. Leaked images of riotously-attired title character Margot Robbie and ripped co-star Ryan Gosling (Ken) promise a knowing, joyful, potentially hilarious adaptation of the Mattel toys staple. A hugely talented and diverse cast, under Gerwig’s accomplished stewardship suggest this Barbie will leave behind some of the character’s more outdated tropes.

Indiana Jones 5

The first film in the series not directed by Stephen “The Beard” Spielberg, after 2008’s CGI fart of a fourth part in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Promising to stay well away from unconvincing gophers, snakes as vines and nuclear-bomb proof fridges, experienced director James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma, Logan, Ford Vs. Ferrari) intends to give 80 year old Harrison Ford a fitting swansong as one of pop-culture’s most enduring heroes. A rumoured early sequence featuring a digitally de-aged Indy could prove either entrancing or distracting. Fingers crossed for this one.

Dune 2

Another sequel to an epic sci-fi tale, one previously considered unadaptable from its original novel format, auteur Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Arrival, Sicario) accomplished a spectacular feat of world-building through strong performances, thrilling visuals and an epic story scope. Part two promises an intensification of the action some griped was lacking from last year’s Timothée Chalamet led first offering.

When it comes to outdoing oneself with an action sequence, nobody does it better than Tom, whose M:I franchise understands that practical effects and a game global megastar intent on outrunning his own mortality through a series of deathdefying stunts get bums in seats year on year. Director (Mission Impossible: McQuarrie’s 2018 series offering was a brawny, intelligent beast of a blockbuster, arguably the best actioner since Mad Max: Fury Road and a high point in the 27 year-old film franchise. Light that fuse...

Fast X

Like Aquaman, but with sports cars instead of mackerel and Tyrese and Ludacris instead of actual actors, the tenth (and allegedly penultimate) instalment in the increasingly ludicrous franchise will have to top F9’s trip to space for gonzo thrills. That pretty much only leaves time travel at this point. At least they shouldn’t have any trouble getting up to 88mph.

Avatar 2: The Way of Water

Technically a Christmas ‘22 release, but if the first film is any indication, this will be playing long into the new year. 13 years have passed since Avatar showed everyone how to do 3-D spectacle right and despite the ever-present cynics, only a crazy person would bet against James “Terminator 1 and 2, The Abyss, Aliens, True Lies, Titanic...”

Cameron and his ability to combine classic storytelling with the very latest technical wizardry. Inviting audiences to take a deep dive into the underwater ecosystem of Pandora, expect big things from this first of four planned sequels.

Killers of the Flower Moon

Whilst not everyone agrees with Martin Scorsese’s assessment that Marvel’s movies “aren’t cinema”, few would argue with the prolific director’s own credentials. Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Casino, Goodfellas, Gangs of New York... He’s been nominated for 283 awards and has won 170. He also has some of the best eyebrows in the industry. Re-teaming with frequent collaborators Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, his tale of J. Edgar Hoover’s investigation into the mysterious 1920s murders of Osage tribe members promises riveting, charged subject matter for adult audiences.

The Little Mermaid

The mouse house continues to churn out liveaction remakes of its most popular animated classics. With seasoned musical director Rob Marshall (Chicago, Into The Woods, Mary Poppins Returns) behind the camera and inspired casting in Javier Bardem (King Triton) and pop star Halle Bailey (Ariel), the literal fish out of water tale, featuring new songs from the legendary Lin-Manuel Miranda has the potential to make a big splash.

Natalie Burn is a UkrainianAmerican actress, film producer, screenwriter, model, and choreographer. She owns two production companies: 7Heaven Productions and Born To Burn Films, and has worked with many renowned actors such as: Mel Gibson, Bruce Willis, Dolph Lundgren, Antonio Banderas and Kate Bosworth among many others.

Natalie cast Marbella Film School student, Vivian Milkova, in her latest film The Enforcer. The film starring Antonio Banderas and Kate Bosworth centres around an enforcer who must sacrifice it all in order to rescue a young girl - involved in cybersex trafficking - from the grips of his femme fatale boss.

Vivian – who plays Antonio Banderas’ daughter in the film - was cast due to her showreel, created at Marbella Film School.

People make movies for a lot of different reasons. Some people want to become famous. Some people make movies because they have a deeply personal story they just need to tell before they die. Some people make movies in order to get rich. I’m not here to pass judgement on the various sorts of motivations that people have for making movies. But as a producer, I want to make a movie to convey a message about an important social issue or even some personal issue.

It took me five years to see “The Enforcer” take shape. When I read Peter Iliff’s script, it took me a year to convince him to give me the rights. I then had to overcome a series of challenges, but I never gave up. I felt like

l Could you let us know what was behind your motivation to produce The Enforcer ?

his story was very powerful and needed to be told. The Enforcer at its core is a film that has to do mainly with the realization of the protagonist (Banderas) for the precious time he has lost, especially regarding his relationship with his daughter. I felt like there are so many people who can relate to this issue and perhaps after watching the movie it will help them make the right choices in their lives. Life is so precious and sometimes we need a push to realize that we are running out of time.

I loved working with legendary Antonio. Watching Antonio on set is like watching Picasso paint. He is a true artist and visionary who brings depth and life to all of his roles. I have nothing but admiration for him. He is one of the few actors today who can really do it all. He does theatre, he knows how to play instruments, how to dance, how to sing and how to develop memorable deep characters. He is a true craftsman in his field. Eventually I collaborated with the company Millenium Media and suggested to Antonio Banderas’ manager that he would be a perfect protagonist in the film. Once Antonio agreed to do the movie everything started to roll. I knew he was perfect for the part; with all of his acting experience he brings a multi-layered performance to his character ‘Cuda’ that is both gracious and edgy

l Marbella Film School student Vivian was cast in your film. What was the casting process like for Vivian and why did you choose her to be part of your movie?

The production had reviewed lots of tape submissions. And she stood out from the rest. I think she did a really good job in the movie. And on behalf of our whole team, I’d like to point out that we are very happy with her performance and her professionalism.

I guess the main thing is to ask yourself “why do I want to be an actor?” Truly be honest with yourself and dig deep. If you’re in it for the fame and money,

this industry can be deceiving. When you look at your favorite movies and your favorite actors and all of the award shows, it is just one side to a story. The other side is very raw, hard, demanding and full of sacrifice. If you’re willing to work through hot, cold, wet, dry, weight loss, weight gain, injuries, waiting on set, waiting for roles, waiting in general then maybe you’ll be cut out for acting. There is no blueprint for this career, just a recognition of the truth behind what it is. Just start creating. Whatever it is. Even if it’s just a short. Trust me there are so many platforms out there it will find it’s place. Stay true to yourself and if you really believe you have something to say. Then say it. And don’t let anyone stop you or discourage you. You are your own creator.

US actor Kirstie Alley sadly passed away from cancer aged 71 last month. The actress was best known for playing Rebecca Howe in the sitcom, Cheers from 1987 to 1993. Kirstie’s role on Cheers earned her an Emmy and a Golden Globe award. Kirstie’s children Lillie and True posted a statement announcing, “To all our friends, far and wide around the world… We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered,” they said. Celebrities have paid their respects online including John Travolta who wrote, “Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had. I love you Kirstie. I know we will see each other again.”

Harry Styles and previous Society Marbella cover star, Olivia Wilde are ‘taking a break’ from each other after two years together. Will Smith reportedly paid the extras on his new film Emancipation out of his own pocket. Antoine Fuqua, the director of the Apple TV movie about an enslaved man who goes on a gruelling journey to freedom after escaping a Louisiana Plantation in the 1860s shared, “He was kind to everyone on the set. Will would go around and hug and shake hands – we had 300-something extras and military marines. “He’s funny. He’s fun. We had certain extras that were the dead bodies in the graves, and he would go give them money for lying there in that heat of over 100 degrees.” He continued: “I have nothing but amazing things to say about Will Smith, genuinely. You can ask anybody that worked on the movie, they’ll tell you the same. “Nicest person I’ve ever met in my life.” It comes after Antoine defended his decision to release the film after lead star Will’s controversial behaviour at the Oscars this year.

Actress Kate Hudson is making the transition into the charts releasing her first album next year. Hudson shared that during the onset of the coronavirus pandemic she was determined to live her life with no regrets. She continued to

explain that she had been a songwriter since she was 19 but never shared her work. “I just thought that would be one of my great regrets. I have no expectations,” said the star of her forthcoming project. “I just want to put a record out, and so I’m doing it. And I’m really proud of it. I can’t wait.” While this may be Hudson’s first time recording a solo project, it’s not her first time singing. She was born into a musical family, as father William Louis Hudson Jr. performed as a vocalist alongside his siblings in The Hudson Brothers. Kate has also sung in many of her acting roles over the years including a role as music teacher, Cassandra July in Glee.

HORROR CRASH

Freddie Flintoff is lucky to be alive after a horror crash. The former professional cricketer was rushed to hospital by a helicopter following the incident while filming a segment for BBC Top Gear at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey. Freddie’s son Corey, 16, said that the family have all been left shocked. “He’s Okay. I’m not too sure what happened but he is lucky to be alive. It was a pretty nasty crash. It is shocking. We are all shocked but just hope he’s going to be OK.”

Pop star Dua Lipa is reportedly dating Jack Harlow after the US rapper wrote a song about her. The source claims Dua “has become quite smitten” with Jack, and the pair have been in “constant communication” since meeting in person at the Variety Hitmakers Brunch in Los Angeles in November.

Let’s face it, time stands still for no man... or woman, but help is at hand in the form of Dr Gabriela Casabona. Here, Society talks exclusively to Ocean Clinic’s world renowned dermatologist and mother of 6 (yes you read that correctly) about the latest tools and techniques available to help us all turn back time.

Tell us a little about your background and specialities.

I’ve been a practicing dermatologist since 2002. At this time I was awarded board certification in my home country of Brazil. As a resident, I went to US to do some rotations and spent 6 months in UCSD and UMASSMED learning about lasers, liposuction, cosmetic dermatology, and skin cancer surgery. This opened both my heart and my eyes expanding my horizons.

For the first 10 years of my career, I dedicated myself to cosmetic dermatology and worked as a collaborating professor in the University ABC for 6 years. After which I decided to pursue my dream of being a skin cancer specialist and did one year of derm. surgery, 1 year of MOHS surgery (special method to treat skin cancer) abroad (Argentina and US- Houston) 1 year of MOHS surgery in the University of Sao Paulo Brazil allowing me to be recognised as a MOHS surgeon, after those 2 years, as I wanted to be able to reconstruct my own surgical cases I specialised in plastic surgery of the face and oculoplastic reconstruction skills. I was then working part time in a

public hospital treating skin cancer only and in my clinic for 18 years focussing mainly on cosmetic Dermatology with a small amount of skin cancer care. Alongside that, I love to publish not only scientific articles but chapters of books as well and also teach in established events such as AMWC, IMCAS or for pharmaceutical companies such as Merz; Allergan;, Dermapen; Mesoestetic.

What types of treatments do you perform in your practice?

Everything! I would say I am a specialist in finding the right combination to improve the skin look and highlighting the natural, beautiful and unique features of each client. My most common treatments are: Fillers, biostimulators, MFU-V (ulthera), threads and BTX-A. When there is a skin quality problem involved, then micro-needling with PRP-PRF, ablative RF and co2 lasers are my favourites.

Which combination of surgical procedures yield consistenty positive results?

It depends on 3 things: the condition (ex naso labial fold) , the self-perception - how the person views themselves, the expectation (how far you want to improve), the complexities added (skin quality / menopause / tabagism) and

the severity (the grade of the condition mild or severe).

All these factors demonstrate to me how complex a nasolabial fold is allowing me to correctly recommendEX. mild one can be treated with filler alone in a young person, a severe one has to be treated in more than one region ( cheeks and nlf) with at least 2 types of procedures (MFU-V plus biostimulators and filler HA in NLF for example)..

What’s the most common issue your patients come to you for help with?

Sagginess of the lateral face or jowling, and lip enhancement

What’s your philosophy on patient care?

Three things : 1- to know your patient: to know what they expect, and to evaluate complexities involved (skin quality, menopause, quality of life)

2- Understand which combination will give them the fastest and most economically suitable result

3- Plan Maintenance not only for the condition but overall skin quality.

What would you say is the biggest cause of ageing skin?

Poor nutrition

What age do you recommend to start anti-ageing treatments?

Controlling what you eat from an early age. I would urge teenagers to take care of their skin quality. If you have a good skin quality you age more slowly.

Nowadays, Botox and fillers are normal practice for people in their early thirties… would this prevent or postpone a surgery such as a facelift?

Definitely, but it’s important and very often underestimated to take in to consideration the patient’s skin quality.

If the skin is not good when you use fillers is like blowing a balloon, you must put

more air every time it deflates and if the skin is not good next time you will have to put more and more air and will end up with the balloon effect. Using a lot of product, lasting a very short time and ending up with unnatural results.

When it comes to facial rejuvenation, what can one expect on a first consultation?

I will discuss the potential patient’s concerns, explaining my opinions and in the instance of a skin problem I will advise on how to improve it first in harmony with the treatment I propose. I’ll also explain about the maintenance.

What are the basic non-invasive facial treatments everyone needs to improve overall skin quality?

* Good nutrition

* Vitamins in some cases

* Good cleaning from time to time

* Use acids (alpha hydroxy or retinol) to improve the cell turn over

It is also a time where it is normal for people to overindulge. Which makes it easy to put off thinking about whether your alcohol use is out of control. Everyone is doing it; so that means it is okay – right?

But what happens now? The season is over, and you are struggling to stop with the daily/morning/binge/excessive/.……. (You can fill in the blank with any type of drinking that is causing an issue or a concern). Maybe your alcohol use over the festive period caused problems? There were arguments, accidents, missed events, or unnecessary drama. Was it simply that your compulsion to drink came before everything else? Leaving you isolated, miserable, and lonely.

Do you find yourself drinking when you don’t really want to; on days when you have previously promised yourself that you wouldn’t? If once you start, do you find you can’t seem to stop? Is alcohol causing you, or those around you, a problem?

If you answer yes to any of these questions but find you can’t seem to stop yourself from picking up that glass; or stay away from the booze for any

length of time, then you are not alone. Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) can help.

Here two members of AA talk about how they found an answer to their struggles with alcohol; and how they no longer feel alone.

Could it be time to change your drinking habits? “ ”

“My name is Richard, I started drinking at 15 years old. The sensation was amazing, I loved the feeling, was immediately hooked, and wanted more. My drinking turned into a chronic problem when I retired from work. Alcohol became my life. I was depressed and lonely. I had no interest in people, places, or things. Relationships were a thing of the past. Eventually even eating became a chore – alcohol always came first.

After a serious health scare, which led to my hospitalisation, I knew I had to make a change or die. I was full of fear at the prospect of my first AA meeting. I hoped that I would hate it and that would justify never going back. However, what I found was love and understanding; and a realisation that there were many other people just like me.”

“My name is Donna. In the beginning alcohol gave me confidence, it was fun. Then it changed, instead of drinking to socialise and have a good time, I was drinking because I had to. I wasn’t happy and alcohol numbed my feelings. Everyone around me drank, it wasn’t unusual. But the way I was feeling, and using alcohol wasn’t normal.

I didn’t know what to expect at my first meeting. Sitting there listening, for the first time ever I felt I wasn’t alone. I heard people speaking about how they felt and how they drank … and it was just the way I did. It gave me hope.

Life now is fantastic. I love sobriety, and the new life I have been given. I am no longer sad and self-obsessed. I can be useful to others. I like who I am. I hated myself when I was drinking. AA worked for me, when everything else I tried, had failed.”

There are meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous, with friendly people who will understand, held daily throughout the Costa del Sol. Meetings are free to attend, and anyone who thinks they may have a problem with alcohol is welcome.

LAB LEATHER

responsible for an estimated 14.5 percent of emissions every year, and while leather manufacturing is just one piece of the pie, it’s polluting the environment at virtually every stage of production.

As public discourse around climate change gains traction, vegan leather has been touted as a sustainable alternative in recent years, and designers like Stella McCartney and Ganni have sworn off animal leather.

But while innovative, natural alternatives like pineapple leather are on the market, a majority of vegan leather products are made from polyurethane — a plastic derived from fossil fuels. So how do we avoid replacing one polluting industry with another?

Here’s how the current leather production industry is hurting the planet, and why lab-grown leather — a method of “biofabrication” that doesn’t require animals — could be a sustainable and fashionable solution.

The environmental impact of animal leather

To keep up with the rising consumer demand for leather goods, the fashion industry is projected to slaughter 430 million cows annually by 2025.

The cattle industry is a driving force of environmental degradation, including deforestation and water pollution. Research shows that it’s the single largest driver of deforestation in the Amazon rainforest, and an industry that’s forcing Indigenous people off their land and destroying wildlife habitat. The Amazon rainforest, once a carbon sink, now emits more carbon dioxide than it can absorb because of aggressive land-clearing.

It’s also polluting the planet with toxins. An estimated 80 to 90 percent of leather is treated with chromium during the tanning process, in which the hair and tissue are removed from the animal hide. While more sustainable vegetable tanning options do exist, it is a lengthy process that can take up to two months to complete. By contrast, chrome tanning can be completed in a day, making it the dominant form of tanning in the industry, which accounts for 95 percent of shoe leather production, 70 percent of leather upholstery production and 100 percent of leather clothing production.

The problem? Manufacturers often dump liquid and solid waste that contains leftover chromium — a chemical that pollutes waterways and puts the health of leather workers and local communities at risk. Chronic exposure to chromium can cause serious repiratory issues, including pneumonia and an increased risk of lung cancer. In places like Bangladesh, tannery workers often work for low wages and without protective equipment. It can also make its way into soil, which can make fields too toxic to grow food.

What is lab - grown leather?

Lab-grown leather is an emerging sector in biofabrication. In other words, it’s a process of producing leather products without the animals.

To keep up with the rising consumer demand for leather goods, the fashion industry is projected to slaughter 430 million cows annually by 2025.

“Today, the market for traditional leather and synthetic leather is nearly evenly split in dollar terms, but not by volume. Synthetic leather has almost 10 times the volume of traditional leather,” says Andras Forgacs, an entrepreneur in tissue engineering and the cofounder of Modern Meadow. “The breakthrough for sustainability [is] to establish a third category of biobased materials that can reduce our twin dependence on livestock and petrochemical products.”

While it’s certainly possible to grow

Leather is bad for animals and the planet — but what if we made it in a lab?

cow cells in a lab, many pioneers in the field are trying a different tactic. Forgacs, who gave a TED Talk on Modern Meadow in 2013, says the hero ingredient in their lab-grown leather has evolved significantly since then, including replacing cow skin cells with BioAlloy™, which are proteins derived from plant-based ingredients. “Bio-Alloys™ [offer] enhanced performance and sustainability at scale as an alternative to leather, but also as a performance fabric in its own category.”

Materials company Bolt Threads also created a form of lab-grown leather called Mylo, in which mycelium — a network of fungal threads — is the key ingredient. “We start by reproducing what happens on the forest floor in a controlled indoor environment,” says Marilla Perkins, Bolt’s senior director of strategy. “We take mycelial cells and feed them sawdust and other organic material, and place all of that in a tray while controlling the humidity and temperature among other variables.”

Perkins says the mycelium then grows into a foamy layer in fewer than two weeks. “This is a big difference from the three-plus years and lots of resources that it takes to raise livestock, whose hides are used in animal leather,” she says. Forgacs believes that bio-based materials will grow to rival, and ultimately exceed, animal products and fossil fuel-based synthetics, but that this change is only possible by delighting consumers with better performance, better sustainability and a competitive value.

Similarly, Mylo is on the cusp of being in the hands of consumers. “We are currently on track to deliver one million feet in the very near future and scale into the tens of millions soon after,” says Perkins, noting that the industry needs to continue innovating to dampen the widespread detrimental effects of the breakneck fast fashion model. “While overconsumption is at the root of fashion’s environmental problems, people are going to continue to need clothes and shoes, which means we will need smarter technologies and solutions that have smaller environmental footprints.”

While the lab-grown solutions make

their way to the market (and even once they’re there), addressing overconsumption will always be the most impactful way to shop sustainably. For instance, today, people have 5x more clothing items than people did in 1980. Lab-grown leather can’t completely dissolve that issue, but it can provide a future where new leather products aren’t reliant on the environmentally devastating cattle industry.

The highlight was a live Cirque show titled ‘Abandoned’, organised and performed by a Triple A volunteer Kelly-Louise Rowden with children Uliana Miriushchenko, Tess Kuttler and Vasilisa Gustav showcasing their acrobatics skills whilst dancing as puppies. Millie Doan, Amina Milliarino and amazing juggler Dmitry Ikin also joined in the fun.

After a welcome and informative speech given by the President of Triple A, Elise Dünweber, the 125 guests enjoyed a delicious dinner, The Event sponsored by Engel & Voelkers Marbella, Niche Perfumes and Global Gift Foundation and Hotel Puente Romano Resort, Raffle and Auction announced by The Ringmasters Luke Hill and Lily van Tongeren.

La Sala Banus hosted an afternoon of Motown and gospel music accompanied by a charity raffle, fashion show by Angel Clothing and Christmas luncheon - all in aid of local animal charity Triple A.

The

Technical Director, Joern Gander explains the genesis of their ultimate off-road vehicle. “There was no clear ‘Eureka!’ moment that gave birth to the Crawler,” he recalls. “The idea came out of an exercise that my team had embarked upon to expand their knowledge of chassis development. As the best way to do this is to design and build a working prototype a discussion took place that set out the initial parameters.”

Designing and building a complete road car was not part of the agenda for this concept, and it was decided from day one that as this exercise was about the chassis and frame the team would keep complex stuff like active systems, electronics and NVH out of the equation.

“As for the type of vehicle we would be developing it was also clear that while we are a ‘manufacturer’ according to the German transport authorities, it was important that we build a uniquely Brabus vehicle,” Joern explained.

Crawler is a one million Euro, limited edition, no-holds-barred ultimate off-road vehicle built to showcase the design and engineering ability of Brabus, the world’s largest tuner and low volume specialist car manufacturer.

A one-off or very low volume car does not have to be street legal. Many wealthy customers are willing to accept this, with the Ferrari FXX and Porsche 935 prime examples of super exclusive trackonly cars offered to ‘VIP clients.’

“A segment where you can charge a lot of money and not have to worry about the expense of all the road legal niceties makes for a very interesting business case,”

said Joern. “But there are too many supercars out there already, and as we are a sporting luxury specialist rather than a motorsport company the idea of a track day car is as far from our core business as you can get.”

On the other hand Brabus is the World’s No 1 tuner of the Mercedes G-Class, so it made perfect sense to take the concept of an ultimate off-road vehicle and develop this to the Nth degree. Further bolstering this is the fact that many of their good customers for extreme G63 conversions are based in countries with deserts and the pieces of the puzzle started to drop into place.

Brabus is not just the World’s largest Mercedes tuner, they are also the World’s largest tuner per se, and have state-of-the-art facilities like 3D printing and a carbon-fibre manufacturing departments.

The final specification sees the Crawler built around a bespoke tubular steel chassis optimised for strength and weight using CAD and FEM modelling and carried out in conjunction with a specialist partner in Germany.

While it shares its wheelbase dimensions, engine, drivetrain, gearbox and differentials with the 2,500kg G63 AMG, the completely different chassis and body make a very significant difference to the weight equation. With the fuel tank and all liquids topped off the Crawler is a significant 497 kg lighter than the production Mercedes G-Class off-roader despite the fact that the portal axle conversion adds 20kg per wheel.

The moulding for the pre-preg carbon-fibre body of the Crawler set a first as the largest Brabus has ever made in-house. In aesthetic terms it is a classic example of form follows function, and the ‘G-Class’ look of the nose cone and bonnet was an integral part of the design aimed at immediate recognition of the Crawler’s relationship to other exclusive Brabus G-Class-based vehicles.

The solid front and rear axles come from the Brabus XLP conversion for the G-Class, which means they are substantially modified for extra load and strength along with the addition of portal gearing and new wheel hubs.

The gearbox ratios are stock and the portal gearing is used to compensate for the massive wheels and tyres that give the vehicle its superior ground clearance. This also means that the signal received by the factory ESP system is correct.

Power comes from the proven Brabus Rocket motor as used in their GT Rocket 900.

The only physical changes are to the oil sump and differential casing, the former being further forwards to suit the chassis.

The standard AMG bi-turbo V8 motor family displaces 3,982cc from a bore x stroke of 83.0 x 92mm. Brabus increase this to 83.75mm x 100mm for a swept displacement of 4,407cc, rounded up to 4.5 litres on paper in traditional Mercedes style.

The turbochargers are modified with larger compressor wheels in modified housings. The turbine wheel geometry is altered for greater efficiency, but as they are not any larger, their housings and the intake manifolds remain untouched.

With remapped engine and gearbox ECUs the bigger capacity motor makes a headline 900hp at 6,200rpm, with the 1,250 Nm of torque electronically limited to 1,000Nm to preserve the gearbox.

The Brabus engineers reduced complication as much as possible, so while the gearbox ECU is standard AMG, many ECUs were omitted since comfort features like electric seats, electric windows and so on are redundant here.

From a distance the Brabus Crawler looks like a Tonka Toy, but when you actually step up to it you realise it is massive, and your next thoughts concern how to climb on board. The side steps are in the right places though, and when you treat the prominent roll cage as your personal ‘monkey bars’ then swinging yourself up and into the open cabin is actually not too tricky.

With controls like the ignition and start button dispersed across the unfamiliar cabin you need to pause for a moment to take it all. However, once you light it up the familiar instrument panel of the current G63 AMG appears in front of you and things return to some semblance of normality.

Pressing the Start button delivers a NASCAR grade V8 roar as the eight

turbocharged cylinders burst into life. The open cockpit means the soundtrack is even more up close and personal than in a G63 with all the glass rolled down.

The thrust from the Brabus 900 motor in a vehicle this high off the ground scrambles your perception of reality, and it takes a few seconds before common sense is cast to the wind, the brains self-preservation safety valve pops, and hesitation becomes, “you only live once, so go for broke!”

Those headsets hanging off the roll bars above your head are meant for communication with other occupants that would otherwise be impossible thanks to the engine roar, exhaust growl, and the rush of turbulent air once you are the move. The lack of a front windscreen means the goggles provided are also there for a reason.

With a lot less weight to pull than a standard G63 the straight-line performance is totally mind-blowing, with 100km/h coming up in just 3.4 sec. Vmax is electronically limited to just 160km/h, but to be frank you would not want to go any faster with this masterclass in open air buffeting pummelling your senses into abject submission.

but if you are one of the 15 lucky buyers to have an open desert nearby and 749,000 Euros (plus tax) to spend on an off-road adrenalin pump, there is probably no equal.

My experience of driving the Crawler enthusiastically down the runway of an disused airfield in Germany is best described as visceral, spiritually energising and absurd, all at the same time. This is one hell of a crazy vehicle, 80

Barely 12 hours after the wraps came off at the Crawler, Brabus had names against the 15 production slots, all with 100,000 euro deposits in place. However, as the engineers can only put together five of these super-cool hand-made off-roaders per year, the very wealthy people at the back of this short queue will have to learn that patience is a virtue.

Notorious for its outlaw status, The Bahamas have sadly not had much success in shaking off their reputation as a staging area for an impressive variety of piracies and acts of lawlessness.

From the days of Blackbeard and Anne Bonny, the most famous and seductive female pirate to sail during the Golden Age past the sun kissed Bahamian shores, acts of piracy are still ubiquitous here and a daily occurrence; mostly hardly newsworthy anymore. However, they have evolved and morphed over 200 years into fiendishly sophisticated white collar crimes; from money laundering, criminal finance, culminating in the recent spectacular blow up of FTX, the world’s second largest crypto exchange.

One thing is certain: there is never a boring day in paradise and the past month has been no exception: one headline chasing another, speculating about the dark deeds of a 30 year old snotty math wizard, MIT physics graduate, who has mysteriously arrived with a cabal of fraternity buddies from Hong Kong in The Bahamas less than one year ago, boasting a mind-boggling $ 36 Billion fortune.

Sam Bankman-Fried, dubbed ‘SBF’, by his star-struck admirers and lemming-like followers (who have since tasted the fall off the proverbial cliff), managed to mastermind a financial stunt that makes Bernie Madoff look like Jesus Christ.

Having arrived not by Galleon, but Gulfstream, not hiding their loot in mosquito infested coastal caves like their forebearers, but armed with encrypted laptops, they created billions out of smoke and mirrors, while living it up in a fancy air conditioned 1.200 square meter penthouse on the beach.

Splurging hundreds of millions of their ill-gotten gains in a gargantuan spree of lavish, hedonistic excess, SBF and his dozen ‘Wunderkinder’ made quite an impression not only on the local business community, but quickly caught the attention of the government. The Prime Minister and his PLP party members, smitten with this smooth talking gifted whiz kid, were starving for a new, revolutionary financial product.

Something so visionary and unique, which would propel their country onto the world stage of high finance and score valuable political ‘brownie points’ with their constituents who were growing increasingly frustrated and weary of their empty political promises and declining financial services industry.

Buddying up to the second largest global crypto player was to be a sure-fire winner for the country. Publicity galore and supermodel Giselle Bundchen as brand ambassador in tow, stroked the government’s ego to the point of no return.

The Bahamas needed to make a splash, and what a splash it was!

A ferocious feeding frenzy for local property agents and lawyers ensued, all too eager to oblige to every whim of their newly arrived Messiah, whose $40 Million penthouse apartment quickly turned into a filthy dormitory, littered with empty pizza boxes, dirty socks and $5.000 sneakers thrown on the polished marble floors. A further 5 ocean front luxury apartments were bought for another cool $30 Million+ at $6 Million a pop, nestled in the most exclusive and outrageously expensive enclave of The Bahamas, Albany.

Albany, the brainchild of Joe Lewis, an English Billionaire, who famously lost a cool $1 B in a financial bet on the Bear Stearns investment bank during the 2008 crash, and whose fabled art work on his monstrous yacht rivals that of the El Prado Museum in Madrid, has evolved into an artificial, vacuous and soulless compound on the once mosquito infested southern side of Nassau. Three hideous smoke stacks of the local electricity plant, a testimony to the crumbling Bahamian infrastructure, loom only yards away from the flashy Albany lavishness.

It was exactly the venue that FTX needed to spread its siren words of crypto wisdom.

Monopoly money created by a motley crew of pimple faced teenagers, led by an ‘Emperor without clothes’, sipping tofu lattes on their bean bags at 4am in the morning, blinded by the flashing of their fake billions on their computer screens.

The Bahamas were an attractive and protective safe-haven for FTX’s aggressive and questionable schemes, their incessant marketing assaults on the unsuspecting investor world, safely distanced from heavily regulated and scrutinizing onshore jurisdictions, which would quickly contribute to its demise.

Whilst the Bahamas, to their defense, have carefully and diligently enacted a legal framework to regulate crypto business, the DARE Act in 2020, it was with far less care and diligence they would naively embrace with fervor some unknown kid, with no history or track record to speak of, bragging about some $36 Billion fortune created out of thin air in less than 3 years.

The mess left behind, and above all, the lasting damage to the image of such a wonderful country, will linger on much longer than the flash fame created by the millions of dollars hastily dumped on our local soil.

Arriving at the Albany gates, five ominous, prison-like guard tower estate homes, enforce and match the challenging visual impact of this growing Orwellian housing concoction, tenderly referred to by the less aesthetically challenged as ‘Albania’, playground for the world’s super rich and gaudiest sports celebrities money can buy.

The opulence and decadence of this luxury 5 star retreat boasts Tiger Woods, one of the more famous home owners and regulars along with dozens of A-list celebrities, as members.

‘Axel, we need to talk to you’, was my first telephone call received from the London Bloomberg office on a misty Tuesday morning in early November. Sipping my Cuban coffee overlooking the azure Caribbean waters at an ungodly hour of 8am in the morning, I had a sneaking suspicion of the nature of the call and was really not in the mood to discuss anything else but my upcoming tee time at the Lyford Cay golf course today. ‘Make it quick, I’m only half awake, or call me later.’ I barked back.

Within a few hours, I was lunching with a carefully chosen press team from Bloomberg New York, who had been sent to Nassau for an in-depth coverage of the unfolding FTX debacle.

Over a bottle of Krug Champagne and a 2 hour TV interview the following day at Nassau’s posh 5star Rosewood Hotel, the young journalists were fascinated to learn how such a small island nation could have become center stage for one of

But time had run out. The Americans had just announced a sealed criminal indictment against SBM, two days before he was to testify at a Senate hearing in Washington on what had caused the FTX demise.

600 miles away however, it was ‘Martini Monday’ for the ‘Rich and Famous’ in Albany, the sun gently disappearing in the azure Caribbean waters, when the Royal Bahamian Police Force launched their stealth operation on SBF. The final knock on his $ 40 Million penthouse was not the daily Sushi caterer, but a sinister squad team whisking him away to the infamous Fox Hill prison, where he is now awaiting extradition to the US.

Seven years ago Netflix made a big splash in the documentary world with their hit Making a Murderer. Gripping, shocking, highly bingeable and fundamentally debatable, the series detailing the real life case of convicted murdered Stephen Avery, replete with twists, turns and suggestions of systemic prejudice and corruption had water coolers in offices working overtime long before the pandemic really stopped people cracking on with actual work. Spectacularly scratching an itch the general public seems to have for crime, betrayal, murder, mystery and general weirdness, it ushered in a slew of wildly popular, occasionally harrowing, sporadically fascinating true crime docs which include The Tiger King, The Staircase, The Tinder Swindler, Night Stalker and Conversations with A Killer. Refreshingly, the big red N’s latest docuseries offering Pepsi, Where’s My Jet is just as gonzo and barely believable a true-life tale as anything that’s come before, just minus the morbidity and body count.

In 1995, the eternal bridesmaids of the Colaproducing world released a TV ad to coincide with their Pepsi Points promotion promising “great stuff” - T-shirts, sunglasses, leather jackets... - in exchange for points collected from drinks purchases. Crucially the ad culminated with the (intentionally jokey) reveal that 7 million points would net you an AV-8 Harrier II fighter jet. No disclaimer to reality was made, a point not missed on one tenacious young man, John Leonard, whose battle to make the soft drinks giant back up their offer forms the basis of the doc. With a little help from his entrepreneur friend Todd Hoffman, a smattering of legal counsel from now disgraced (and incarcerated) Stormy Daniels lawyer Michael Avenatti, and the discovery of a loophole which would see the 32 million dollar military plane attainable for just $700,000 of Pepsi Points, the likeable Leonard locked horns with the pop-producers

whose adamant stance that is was “clearly a joke” rang false to a young man who just really wanted the jet he was promised. Refusing a $1 million “go away” payment Pepsi offered, the seemingly guileless Leonard’s plight exposed the company, with its team of corporate lawyers, arrogant responses and aggressive litigation to the kind of negative publicity which seriously undermined its coveted position as cool young upstart during the “Colawars” of the 90s. Without spoiling the story’s outcome for those still to watch (Apologies to those with no intention of doing so.... oh, go on then, MICROSCOPIC SPOILER: He gets nothing), it’s worth noting the case made its mark in legal history, still taught about in law classes today.

Remarkably, it’s one of the more reasonable lawsuits in the great pantheon of ridiculous litigation where common sense, integrity and general sanity frequently take a back seat to

Another drinks manufacturer “falsely” offering consumers the ability to fly, Red Bull agreed to compensate customers disappointed their purchase didn’t actually give them wings, as their popular ad slogan suggested. The lawsuit filed by consumer Benjamin Careathers in 2013 conceded he did not expect to sprout literal wings but expected at least a significant energy boost... He clearly wasn’t adding enough Vodka cos that shit works !!

Portland resident Allen Ray Heckard attempted to sue global superstar Michael Jordan and sponsors/enablers Nike for a mammoth sum, since he said Jordan’s perceived facial similarity to his own led to an “emotionally painful” life of mistaken identity and hassle from confused fans. Though one could suggest he simply grew a moustache, wore a hat, or well, get

over it, Heckard felt he’d prefer $800 million dollars.... He didn’t win.

In 1993, Richard Overton sued Anheuser-Busch for false advertising, citing emotional distress, mental injury and financial loss when his prolonged consumption of their Budweiser beer failed to acquire him the scenic locations, beautiful women and “unrestricted merriment” he’d drunkenly observed in their promotions. The fact he only went for $10,000 when his countrymen are grasping at close to a billion for similar-head syndrome confirms he’s just the type of underachiever who thinks Budweiser is worth drinking.

Butt-hurt Brian Delekta sued Memphis High School in 2003, seeking a grade bump to an A+ in one of his classes. Having completed assigned work experience at his own mother’s law office, his case identified that missing out on the top grade had denied Delekta class valedictorian status, an injustice

him (and his mummy) wanted reversed. He lost the case and presumably remained an A... for As***le.

In 1995, inmate, Robert Lee Brock filed a lawsuit against himself for $5 million for violating his own civil rights when his drinking led him to commit crimes which saw him incarcerated. As a warden of the state, Brock contended it was the state who should foot this monster bill. The state agreed wholeheartedly, kindly increasing the figure to $8 million and releasing Brock early for being “such a clever boy”....

...Of course they didn’t. They told him to pipe down and cut his porridge rations.

One of the Best Kept Secrets in the Anadalucian Hills

The last time I visited La Donaira was 7 years ago. They had recently opened their doors to the public and we had just heard rumours of this amazing slice of heaven in the Andalucian hills. I have spent years running Wellness Retreats in the area and can vouch that it steals a part of your heart.

I think the most magical part is the arrival. If you are driving you get told to park in the nearest white washed village. You are instructed to visit one of the tapas bars and get welcomed in and given a delicious glass of red wine and some tapas while waiting to be picked up. One of the Finca’s hosts arrives to pick you up and take you to La Donaira and you get whisked away for the next 48 hours.

When I think of somewhere where you can truly relax in the most stunning surroundings and really let go of the chaos of everyday life. I was excited to be back.

La Donaira is always the first place that springs to mind when I think of escaping the hustle and bustle of life.

This beautiful eco farm between Rhonda and Seville is set on 1700 acres, nestled in the middle of the Alalucian countryside on top of a hill with 360 degree views you will never tire of. There are 9 rooms, each of

which has its own individually rustic yet stylish decor where you feel completely at home. Originally a home they opened their doors to share their philosophy of true biodiverse farming which takes years to perfect as it means regenerating huge amounts of land with many layers and bits that need to be timed and fit well. The last time we were here, head gardener Gigi was in full swing creating the medicinal garden that houses a huge amount of herbs, flowers and a huge amount of a variety of plants. As someone who loves plants this is a slice of paradise. The Finca also grows most of the veggies and fruits that are prepared in the kitchen.

Whether you choose to fully chill out or get active, there are a whole host of activities to enjoy and events to attend at this luxurious southern Spanish retreat. For example there is yoga, hiking, horse riding, cycling, swimming in their natural spring pool, as well as wine tasting, music festivals and wellness weekends. Or you might want to try bee bed meditation! One of my favourite things was the forest bathing with the donkeys that have been saved from a hard life. There is a

whole programme where they create therapeutic sessions with the donkeys - which is incredible. Another highlight was walking into the herd of horses that the Finca houses. They are cuddly and absolutely gorgeous and looked after by the magical Irish horse whisperer.

La Donaira is also an equestrian center where they breed beautiful Lusitano horses. You can spend quality time amongst the ninety horses that roam the land and whether you are a beginner or an expert, I’d highly recommend going out for a ride though the glorious countryside.

We also spent every morning visiting the spa facilities - you get a spa kit given on arrival and can privately go through the motions of treating yourself to some self love.

You will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the rejuvenating spa which has treatments that are so unique. you will never forget this experience. All the spa products are made from locally sourced ingredients and whether you indulge in a massage or one of their beauty treatments, bathe in the relaxing infinity pool, or spend time in the hammam or wood fired sauna followed by a dip in the icy plunge pool, there really is something for everyone here.

Most of the amazing food that you will eat is prepared from the incredible organic vegetable and medicinal garden in the grounds, which you can take a tour of to learn more about how it all works. A farm to fork concept, practically everything is made in house and what is not is sourced from local

suppliers. Fresh eggs are collected daily, you’ll savor homemade bread and cheese, they harvest their own honey and even their organic and biodynamic wines are a hit. We also had an incredible wine tasting as one of our activities. The finca are in the process of producing their own biodynamic wines and have had a few successful yields. Every meal is paired with the perfect wine chosen by the Fincas in house sommelier that nails it everytime. It will be exciting to see where the wine journey goes in a few years time as biodynamic farming is a time consuming process.

We were lucky enough to stay in the Glass Suite, a unique yurt like accommodation with a luxurious four poster bed and a huge wooden bath to relax into whilst enjoying the stunning views from the floor to ceiling windows. You’ll want to come back here at least nine times so that you can try each of the uniquely designed rooms as they all offer something different.

I think the magic of this place is being whisked off to a home and everyone that works at La Donaira is truly special and there to make you as at home as you possibly can be. All the food and drinks are included. You do not have to worry about a thing from the minute you step into this paradise and can truly focus on switching off. I will be back here for sure as it is still one of my favorite places on earth.
