Want more out of life? Get it. by Melonie Butler At the age of 35, I was awakened to the fact that I was living an unfulfilled life. Though I was a successful marketing executive, wife and mother of three, I wanted far more than I‘d accomplished or experienced. All I truly wanted was to be wholly ‘me‘ and fully ‘free‘ without expectations, limitations or restrictions. While that was my desire, I had no idea how to achieve it. Little did I know, I would be taken on a spiritual journey to awaken my buried passions and recognize again my God-given gifts. Upon rediscovery, I began asking myself a series of ‘what if‘ questions, like: What if young women recognized themselves as children of God perfectly designed and properly equipped to live the life God has purposed for them? What if women refused to accept ‘what is’ as the end, and instead repurposed lessons learned from trials and turned them into stepping-stones for a promising future? What if young women determined they were victorious and lived life as such? Well, they win!
It was then that I determined, ‘what if‘ has become ‘what is.‘ I will be the catalyst for this shift, because I, personally, choose to win! As a fellow sojourner through life, I hope to partner with women on their journey to win. I plan to commit my life to sharing my personal experiences with others through motivational speaking and the creation of the I Choose To Win organization, which will help others become the bold, brave and brilliant women of God we‘ve all been called to be. Not one of us is created equally the same. Each of us is created with different gifts, purposes, talents and perspectives that have been custom built for the purpose God has placed in us. To be effective, we have to unleash our gifts to impact the world for His glory. Now, I ask you, “Win or lose. In life, which do you choose?“ This magazine is a tool used to edify, empower and equip its readers who are also on their journey. Join the movement. In life, I hope you win!

MEET ERICABALDWIN Raised in the world of motorsports, Georgia-born Erica Baldwin, 23, has creatively combined her passion, purpose and position to create a life of winning for herself. In the daily environment of high performance race cars - and their famed drivers, her pleasant spirit, unpretentious presence and casual nature were a welcomed treat to encounter. Meanwhile, her knowledge, intensity, creativity and ability to communicate about the events were equally impressive.

n the world of motorsports, there are paddocks laced with sponsored race teams, the coolest racecars, hyper fans, loud engines, big name sponsors, food vendors, checkered flags, podiums, media personnel and scantily clothed women. This is the world Erica Baldwin, Public Relations Specialists for the Pirelli World Challenge Race Series, calls home. aving been part of the race community all her life, the daughter of famed racer Jack Baldwin, has found a nitch of her own. It‘s not racing, per se. But, she‘s as close to it as possible without doing the driving. Possessing a creative mind, the undergraduate student takes advantage of youthful trends, the latest technology and generates fresh

ideas for campaigns that keep her race fans engaged and loyal. Demonstrating excellence while managing communications for the GTSport Racing RESET-MD race team, Erica was offered a position handling the public relations activities for the entire Pirelli World Challenge race series, seen on CBS Sports. hen asked to describe herself in three words, she chose: “Driven. I know what I want and I know I can have it all if I just go after it and remain teachable, humble and grateful. Fun. Nothing is worth doing if it is not enjoyable. Any situation can be fun with the right mindset. Caring. My greatest moments have come when I can be of service to another.” She shared that her vision of a winning life is to live in such a way that she is of maximum service to others while staying true to herself. More recently, the 2014 race season with the RESET-MD race team, Ms. Baldwin‘s contributions created unique opportunities for an eleven-year-old boy, Collin, whose

personal story went viral about his not wanting a birthday party because he had no friends. She learned of the story and created a stir in the paddock when the RESETMD race team held a birthday celebration for the young man and his family at their first-ever race event. Additionally, Erica learned of another life, Kelsey, 23, suffering from a brain tumor. Baldwin wanted to support the family‘s effort to raise awareness of Kelsey‘s rare condition and funds for her medical costs. And just like that, the “Racing4Kelsey” campaign was birthed. he moment you realize that winning and losing are not only outcomes, but more importantly choices. That is the moment you’re confronted with the decision - to choose! Believe it or not, we choose everyday, several times per day how we will approach the day, the attitude we have during the day, the tasks we will complete within the day and how much we expect from ourselves before the close of the day. The will to win in any task begins first with a choice. It’s followed quickly by an attitude that anticipates the completion of the task. The winning attitude is incredibly optimistic, welcoming and encouraging. In fact, it’s contagious! Then, it requires the actions of undertaking the task(s). Before you know it, upon the completion of each small task, you experience winning over and over again.

t is as simple as these three steps: First, choose your win. Next, align your attitude in anticipation of your win. Last, complete the actions required to experience the WIN! Winning is realizing the potential within you for greatness and acting on it. With God being your creator, and His purpose revealed in you, it’s truly a matter of will-power, trust and obedience to unleash your God-given gifts for His Glory. For God is great, almighty and awesome. We were formed in His image. So, we can infer that we each possess a bit of greatness within us. Don’t forget Individually, we are victorious. Collectively, we are more than conquerors. While the victory is truly His, He let’s us live it out. In life, choose to win and you will do just that, WIN. E BOLD. Being bold is not being loud, bossy, rude, pushy or obnoxious. It’s not drawing attention to yourself to satisfy an insatiable need to have all eyes on you or every ear awaiting your thoughts. It’s bigger and better than that. It is being convinced, convicted and confident in whose you are and the purpose placed in you. It’s being okay with God‘s design and being unapologetic about being exactly who you are. E BRAVE. Being brave is not being overly aggressive, in-your-face or bully-like. It’s releasing courage in the face of conflict, injustice and undeniable

olish Girl Nail Cafe is where Jacie Currington, self-employed nail artist, found her start for her growing Memphis, Tennessee-based business. With mostly women clientele, Jacie’s day-to-day environment invites creativity, allows for fun, builds relationships, all while providing an escape from the daily grind for moms, daughters, professionals and fellow entrepreneurs. In her chair, women have the opportunity to experience a laugh, engage in casual conversation or seek advice. Jacie recalls, “a client once told me she leaves the salon feeling like a new woman, with her confidence restored.” The nail guru states that her clients give her the motivation to come to work. “You never know what that hour away from it all can mean to someone.” When asked what advice she has for readers with similar interest, Jacie responded, “Do not let arrogance fuel your passion. ollowing the traditional trajectory of young people today, Jacie completed high school, went to college, earned a degree and chased a career in her major. This talented woman shortly found the only missing element in the traditional scenario was passion. he later explored herself to learn what she would like to do - and what she would not want to do with her life. This exercise led her down the path of understanding who she is by design and equally, who she isn‘t. At the age of 24, the bold and brave Jacie packed her bags

and left her hometown of Detroit, MI, to make a life in Memphis, TN, where she obtained her cosmetology license, found a shop to offer her services and began her journey. “It was difficult because not everyone saw my

I probably missed opportunities and wasted time by being shy.” Jacie is a southern nail artist who chooses to win in life! Her parting words for readers; “Enjoy what you do. ife has a way of getting your attention. Sometimes we, as humans, believe that we are in control of our lives. We become full of ourselves and think we have it all figured out, and then God steps in to wake us up one way or another. I was that girl, I thought I had it all together for the most part: good job, happy marriage and a great family. Any logical person would agree with my saying, “I had to have been doing something right,”
right? Or, so I thought. hen God stepped in and started taking away that which I was wrongly focused on or content with. I had taken my eyes off Him and needed to have my world shaken up so He could redirect my focus. I understand there is a bigger purpose in my life that I cannot fulfill without Him. ow, I seek Him before I move. I’m in a place where I’m grateful for my trials. I know that I can do all things with God and nothing of true value without him. As a woman, a mother, a business owner and friend, I see the bigger picture

I knew that the fear of the unknown was not of God so I had to trust God and Just do it.
Starting my own business at the age of 32 is one of the scariest things I‘ve ever done. I have a husband, 4 children and a mortgage. I prayed about it for a long time and I felt like it was what I was supposed to do, but I still had doubt. Not knowing when I woud get my next check and not being able to schedule my pay days every 2 weeks was terrifying. But, I knew that the fear of the unknown was not of God so I had to trust God and just do it. - TT

Is fear a spiritual battle for you? Overcoming fear is necessary. When I experience fear, I immediately pray and talk to God. For me, this is the only way to move beyond it. I believe fear or being fearful is a part of the spiritual battle, and in order to combat this, I must hear from God and read the Word. Sometimes, I feel like we, as women, do not give ourselves the credit or praise we deserve. We fall into the monotony of life and don‘t live up to our full potential. Now, more than ever, I believe it is time women break the cycle of monotony, fall in love with life - and themselves - and bloom into the bold, brave and brilliant women that we are by design! - JS

I learned how to be brave and courageous when my mother died. I never thought I would survive my mother’s death. Her dying left me very broken, hurt and confused. MEET JAIMEESWIFT Washington, D.C. resident, Jaimee Swift, wakes up every day ready to seize it - making God and her family proud. A Temple University alumnae, and Howard University graduate student, this dynamic woman has served in the White House and CNN Politics as an intern. Her journey was a trial tested one, which she candidly shares, “if it wasn‘t for God‘s grace, I would not be here. There is a time and season for everything. And I‘ve learned I must stay true to God and myself during both times of heartache and happiness.” - JS

When I was younger, I was severely depressed, oppressed, very insecure, hurt, and unsure about where I was going and what I wanted to do in life. I was fearful and so worried about what others thought about me, that I wouldn’t allow myself to thrive. I felt stuck and caged in. But God’s grace sustained me. aimee Swift, 23-year-old graduate student and teaching fellow, loves journalism. But her compassion towards people is heavily part of her makeup, too. This young woman‘s desire to see the humanity in others and shed light on human struggles have created in her a desire to pursue of the perfect path - a career that allows her to share meaningful stories to raise awareness and spring forth social change. But, she did not always know exactly what she wanted to be - or do. Her journey toward self-discovery led her down a trail riddled with pain, heartache and difficulty. Through a littany of personal struggles endured, Ms. Swift‘s heightened awareness of social issues, injustice and spiritual warfare became a platform for her unique path. or most of my life, I grew up in a mentally, emotionally and even physically abusive household. From my childhood to my undergraduate years, I was severely depressed, oppressed, very insecure, hurt and unsure about where I was going and what I wanted to

do in life. I was fearful and so worried about what others thought about me, that I wouldn‘t allow myself to thrive. I felt stuck and caged in,” exclaimed Jaimee as she reflected on the hardship of her teenage years where the act of assimilation grew equally as painful as the thought of being labeled different. Thoughts of suicide plagued her young mind as she felt the weight of the world was too great a burden to bear. However, it was the love, support and prayers of her mother and grandmother, which drew her closer to God and helped her overcome. In her own words: I was nineteen years old when I decided I was going to break free from the enemy‘s vices and pursue my own path! It was God‘s grace that sustained me then and now. I write this today as a fearless, bold, ambitious, confident, passionate woman who loves God and is true to herself. ” aimee‘s challenge to young women: “Be true to yourself. Love yourself. hen asked about what she does to realize her vision of winning, Jaimee responded, “being proactive, praying, staying before the Lord, but also not becoming too caught up in my own problems where I cannot see the humanity and struggle of others.” When discouraged, this she-ro has a plan that will keep her on track. She exercises to keep her temple (mind and body) healthy. She is also intentional about the music and messaging she allows in her mind. Her favorite quote, “And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom,” by Anais Nin, definitely resonates after learning Jaimee‘s story.
