If we believe that the World needs to be on a strict CO2 budget and that a 50% emission cut is needed by 2030, we need to get on that program too, and we can’t air freight products home just to catch the sales.

Since we don’t have to satisfy the stock market or venture capitalists, the boundary is not “we will do this as long as it doesn’t hurt our profit”. Growth and profit don’t have a real value for us by themselves, but only to secure our survival and as a means to make more impact towards our vision.

To make this happen we need to change the culture around us, to a culture where resources are respected, to a culture where taking care of things you already own gives more of a kick than buying new stuff, to a culture where the quality of an experience isn’t measured by how exotic or flashy it is, when spending some time in the forest together with people you like can be just as or even more fulfilling.

To a business culture where you don’t prioritize your short-term profit over long term effects on people and nature.

The decisive decade 2020-2030 has been named the “decisive decade”, where we need to take action to counter climate change and biodiversity loss, and we believe that’s true.

We’re now a couple of days into the second year of it.

These times call for all of us to find our inner motivation for becoming our version of activists, to find what we love and how we want to protect that.

FAIR WEAR FOUNDATION Icebug is member of Fair Wear Foundation, an international non-profit organization with focus on labour conditions in garment and footwear production. The mission is to help the industry to secure safe, dignified and properly paid employment for their workers.

FSC® certified Natural rubber in outsoles We initiated a collaboration with Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) and other footwear brands to develop FSC® certified footwear rubber supply chain in Thailand.

FSC® secures sustainable forestry (rubber farming) and good working conditions and traceability in the whole value chain.

Icebug is now FSC® certified (license code: FSC-C173562) and so is the whole value chain. We source FSC® certified natural rubber from small holder farmers in Thailand, where we also invited other footwear brands to increase the volumes and keep the farmers and processor motivated.

For FW23 we aim for all styles to be FSC® certified with FSC® rubber in the outsoles.

Solar energy on factories roof We teamed up with Clean Energy Investment Agency (CEIA) and other brands to offer our partner factories in Vietnam favorable rooftop solar energy. The feasibility studies show potential for up to 67% savings of climate emissions, plus resulting in cheaper energy, a real win-win! All three assembly factories in Vietnam joined the purchase process in 2022.

We expect that the solar energy installations will be made in time to give all FW23 styles lower energy footprint thanks to this project. This will decrease our overall footprint with around 8% per functional unit (a pair of shoes).

Full leather traceability by SPOOR Icebug runs a pilot project with Danish SPOOR and Ecco Leather that enables tracing of the leather origin back to the farm - and even to the unique animal!

So we know that this leather is from healthy and well treated cows from Danish farms which assures no deforestation and good working conditions.

The SPOOR leather also comes with specific climate data with 28 % lower emissions per kg leather than today, meaning roughly 1,5 kg less CO2e per pair of Metro leather shoes. Of course we also keep the excellent features of Eccos Dritan® leather with Leather Working Group (LWG) gold standard. The Dritan® method saves chemicals, water and energy.

The SPOOR leather will be launched in FW23 on some selected Icebug styles.

Running The freedom of continuing those forest or road runs even when it´s getting cold, slippery and dark is quite something!

With excellent traction, reflective details and closed textiles uppers our winter running shoes will keep you on your feet even in the most rugged terrain.

Our goal is to inspire and help people to stay active outdoors regardless of weather conditions, and we continue to deliver this possibility.

NewRun BUGrip® NewRun FW23 BUGrip® gets a cleaner look and even more comfort. The mudguard has been redesigned slightly in order to allow a natural movement of the foot for running. We increased the logo size and introduced three new colourways. The specification of the material is the same as the previous version.

Torne 2 BUGrip® & Biosole™ Torne 2 gets a visual update as well as some new material choices.

The mudguard is changed from PU to a more durable rubber mudguard, giving it extra protection as well as an upgraded look.

The rip-stop is also changed to a canvas textile, completing the more rugged look. The tongue has been made slightly wider to make sure there will be no gap between tongue and shaft if wearing the boots with pants tucked inside.

Torne 2 is the warmest shoe in the Icebug collection.

The high shaft provides stability and shelter from cold conditions and is perfect for those extra snowy days.

HIGHLIGHTS

The shaft has been upgraded with an internal layer of Woolpower® in parts of the shaft to give extra insulation and stability thanks to the great material properties of the felted wool.

The foam that was previously used in the top of the shaft have also been switched out to a non-woven 100% recycled polyester (GRS certified) to give a softer feeling around the ankle but also to make a sustainability upgrade.

The thick insole with Woolpower® lining adds both insulation and comfort in cold conditions.

Torne 2 is available both with a Biosole™ compound that maintains its softness in very low temperatures, enabling reliable unstudded winter traction, as well as a BUGrip® outsole that has 14 dynamic steel studs, providing the very best winter traction.

Metro2 Nubuck BUGrip® New premium version of Metro2 with traceable SPOOR nubuck leather upper from Danish cows that ages beautifully. The boot is soft and warm with fluffy lining made from recycled wool.

Metro 3 MICHELIN Stavre 2 MICHELIN Pace 4 MICHELIN GTX Metro 3, Stavre 2 and Pace 4 have all gotten an updated last to increase comfort as well as look. It is based on the Metro-last but has a lower inner toe-spring. It keeps the wide and comfortable qualities that Metro have had and gives that nice roll off forward when walking.

These styles have also gotten a new design of the MICHELIN WIC outsole, with deeper lugs than the previous one; providing better grip in mud and snow than before.

HIGHLIGHTS

FloorSaver The FloorSaver is a complete redesign of the previous “overshoe”. This is a very smart accessory that protects indoor floors from your metal studs, which comes in handy if some shops have a “no-studs” rule.

This new design is much easier to put on and off than the previous version and can easily be rolled together for storage. The FloorSaver can be used for all of our studded shoes.

The FloorSaver use our most natural Biosole™ compound, with 62% natural rubber which is FSC certified.

HIGHLIGHTS UPDATED STYLE

Boda BUGrip® BUGdri™ Boda MICHELIN BUGdri™ Boda MICHELIN and Boda BUGrip® is now upgraded with waterproof BUGdri™ membrane providing reliable protection from snow and slush.

Boda is a versatile and comfortable midcut for both urban and forest use. The grip is managing all slippery surfaces and the upper is warm and cozy. It is equipped with both elastics and a medial zipper to make it very easy to use and put on.

Boda has a layer of Primaloft® Bio™ at the front to keep your toes warm and cozy.

The waterproofness comes from our BUGdri™ membrane which is made from 50% recycled GRS certified polyester.

The membrane is also bluesign® certified.
