Isn’t weird how things can become more desirable once someone else wants/has it? In my opinion it could be two things: #1 you still have feelings for your children’s mother and maybe have unfinished business with that situation; or #2 you are greedy and you really don’t want her but you just don’t want anyone else to have her.

Either way you need to figure it out. I would hate for a man to string me along when his heart is NOT in it. Don’t play games with your current woman’s feelings. Maybe you need to put some space in there to see what’s really going on. “Find Yourself” as some like to call it. Being that you have children, you might always feel some type of bond or connection with your children’s mother. That may or may not mean you two need to be together, but you really need to figure it out. As the temperature rises people will ultimately take to the streets and the clubs. Did you know that more relationships are started and ended during the summer months than any other time in the year? WHY is that?? Because temptation is all around. Gone are the boots and coats, and out come the mini skirts, sandals, and the wife beaters.

1. Ladies, if you are going to wear sandals, please keep those feet with fresh pedicures nothing is sexy about chipped polish on your toes.

2. Men, if you are going to wear a wifebeater and you have a beer belly, please make sure it covers it properly.

3. Women, if you are over a size 22 please do NOT wear booty shorts. You can be big and sexy but you have to realize what looks good on a size 6 does not mean it will look good on you.

4. Men, if you are over 25 please pull your pants up! Women really do not find anything sexy about seeing your underwear.

5. Women, pink and purple hair is not sexy; leave that to Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga. Keep your hair tight and your edges smooth. If you choose to wear a lacefront please have it attached properly.

6. Men, if you must wear sandals, please invest in a pedicure; same rule applies to you. There is nothing sexy about white crusty feet.

7. Women, make sure your arms and legs are shaved properly and if you are gonna wear a bikini make sure your kitty area is shaved up. Some men like hair, but hair holds smell, so if you sweat that will make you smell musty and that is a no-no.

8. Men, if you have dreads, goatees, afros, mustaches, or anything like that, keep it groomed. One of the first things a woman looks at is your hair.

9. Women, accessorize! I can not say that enough! A sexy pair of sunglasses, a purse and shoes can make or break a outfit. If you look like you shop in Wet Seal you probably won’t gain the attention of a BALLER. Remember: how you look is what you attract.

10. Men and Women, keep yourself drama-free be REAL with who you’re dealing with. If you’re looking to HIT and QUIT, be honest! Women, if you’re looking for men, quit settling for boys.

There are many rules, but you can use these as a guideline.

Chapter1: Continued........

Ladybird had gained a reputation when she was young for being the neighborhood ho’, because she got pregnant so young. My grandmother used to tell Ladybird that guilt would kill her, if she didn’t learn to forgive herself for the mistakes in her past and move on. But she never did.

As far back as I can remember, I only hung around boys, ‘cuz I never trusted bitches! When I got older this eventually started rumors that I was fuckin’ this nigga and that nigga, which was mostly a lie.

I mean, don’t get it twisted! I did whatever I wanted to do, with whoever I wanted to do it with, but I wasn’t doin’ half the shit people said I was. Most of the guys I kicked it wit’ really were just friends. I never really had any female friends ‘til I got to college, and even then the girls I hung wit’ were more like partners in crime than anything else. I saw other women as the enemy! Maybe these feelings came from the fucked up relationship that I had wit’ Ladybird, shit, I just figured that if I couldn’t trust my own mama, I couldn’t trust no bitch!

It seemed like the older I got, the worse my relationship got wit’ Lady-Bird, ‘cuz she was always on my back about one thing or another, always accusing me of something and always putting me down. So, I learned to stay away as much as possible. I never understood why she hated me so much. Everybody always use to say how much I looked like her, maybe that was why she hated me, because when she looked at me she saw her own face and her own mistakes. Later on, after one of her many nervous breakdowns, she was finally diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, this mental illness that caused her to have hallucinations and made her think people were plottin’ against her, mainly me for some reason.

Which explained why she would accuse me of killing my brother (Who was run over by some fool speedin’ down the street in a car) and why she even once accused me of havin’ an affair with Davis.

Apparently he had stopped wanting to have sex with her and as with everything else, I had to take the blame. I remember sitting in my room at night cryin’, and prayin’ to God that he would give me the magic cure to make Lady-Bird better, so she could love me. But, it never happened. Ladybird hung herself from a wood beam in my room the day before my fourteenth birthday. So not only did she kill herself, but she did it in my room, so that I would be the one who found her. I guess this was my final punishment for being born, her final gift to me. I had nightmares for months afterward! I never went back in that room again!

About then I started runnin’ off to my grandmother’s house on the southside, just to get some peace, just to get away. My stepfather eventually just let me stay with her. I guess he knew how much it hurt being in that house or maybe he was just happy that I was out of his hair and he really didn’t have to deal with me that much anymore. After all, he wasn’t my real father anyway. That’s just how it always seemed. So, I resorted to the peace and quiet of my grandma’s house. It was always quiet at grandma’s, we all thought she hated noise, so nobody wanted to be over there but me, but I didn’t realize ‘til I got grown that she didn’t hate noise, she just loved peace. I learned at an early age how to appreciate peace and the beauty of quiet, ‘cuz Ladybird always kept up so much drama; I never really knew what peace was. Where my grandma lived was much different than where we lived, Davis called it “the no good hood.” But I loved it, because everything seemed so alive, so loud and in yo’ face. As soon I got to the southside, it was like all my senses started to heighten. The sights, the sounds, and even the air, all overwhelmed me! Every little thing excited me. Which sort of helped me to escape the grief I felt over Ladybird’s death.

My grandma lived right down the street from the South Side Shrimp Shack, you could actually smell the shrimp and chicken cookin’ from her front porch. As soon as you crossed Western avenue, you could just feel the mood of the streets, you could see the hustlas’ hustlin’, the pimps pimpin’ and the ho’s hoin’.

And sometimes you could actually even taste the filth as you walked through the streets, it was thick and real, it was so close you could smell it. The people were so interestin’, so different from what I was used to, so alive. I got cool wit’ a few people around the hood (the boys of course) who gave me my first true taste of hood life. Another reason I liked staying at my grandmother’s was because she was really too old and too tired to keep up with me, so I kinda’ did whatever I wanted. While she was busy cookin’, cleanin’ and runnin’ back and forth to church prayer meetings, I was hangin’ in the streets and acting grown (smokin’ weed, drinkin’ and talkin’ shit wit’ the niggas on the block). As long as I was back in the house by the time the streetlights came on, she didn’t really trip. But, even when she did make me come in, I would just wait ‘til she went to bed and sneak back out through the window in my room. Then it was really on!

Davis was cool with me staying at my grandma’s, because he always knew where I was and what I was doin’, or so he thought. What’s funny is that he was supposed to be this great police detective but, half the time he never even knew what was goin’ on with his own family or maybe he did and just didn’t care.

So many things went on with me right under his nose; he was just too busy to see.

MUSIC REVIEWS WITH J. ANTOINNE Anthony David As Above, So Below

Bobby V - Fly On the Wall Capitol Records, 2011

Anthony David is one of those artists that everyone can love, but most people completely miss out on. This CD is one of those rare ones you can just push play and listen all the way through. The first single, "4evermore", is quite indicative of the gems that this albums collects. Anthony's gritty, soulful tenor takes these songs and never over-sings them, never misses a vocal step, and never has you shrugging your shoulders, questioning his ability. The syrupy "Getaround" and his remake of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" are standout cuts.

(A+) (4.75 stars)

Case- Here, My Love

Avant - The Letter

Bobby Valentino, now called Bobby V, was a quarter of the group Mista, who had the single, "Blackberry Molasses". After releasing a solid debut album followed by two less-than-stellar albums, many people see Bobby V but aren't listening. This album is arguably his best work to date, which has Bobby finally not trying to outsing his competitors and just following the music with his voice. Some of the music sounds a bit dated, but Bobby still makes them work. "Phone #" seems to be what people like, "Hang On" is a nice ballad, "Alter Ego" will be played in the clubs, and his remake of Bobby Brown's "Rock Witcha" isn't bad at all.

Avant has always been one of those singers that puts out decent singles but lackluster albums, and this started with his first album, My Thoughts. "Separated" and "My First Love" were radio staples, but the album as a whole was just blah. Here, with his sixth studio album, he follows a lot of the same lines of 2006's Director; a blend of sly uptempo cuts mixed in with the drawled out ballads. "Body Police" is a nice ballad, and "Where Did We Go?" and "Kiss Goodbye" are smooth midtempo songs. Not a great album, but not awful either.

**Throwback CDs you probably don't have (but SHOULD)**

Roc-A-Fella Records, 2010 Vivian Green - A Love Story A TRUE R&B album that flows effortlessly from beginning to end. "Emotional Rollercoaster" is just a TASTE of the musicianship within.

So many people have slept on and are sleeping on Case, and missing out on SO many awesome songs. Case has a voice that is very distinctive (in a good way) and the production on his albums are always on point. This album follows that same format; delivering awesome vocals with amazing production, crafted together to make a GREAT solid album. "I'm Ready" is great, as is "Old Fashioned Lovin'" and "Jealousy", while "Just Leave" flips the script on the ladies. This album may be a bit too short (some of the interludes could have easily been full songs), but it's still a great album.

Az Yet - Az Yet The quintet delivers real-life testaments of love found, kept, and lost, all within twelve songs. Their remake of "Hard To Say I'm Sorry" is instant vintage.

“Man Candi” of the Month MsiCandi: I first met you back in 2004-05 and you were a baby!!!!! (Laughs) Youʼve grown so much throughout the years, from doing something with cars, to graphics, promotions, and you recently told me something about Deejaying. How are you able to manage all of those projects and still be a SUPERDAD that you are?

Stylez: Honestly, I have no clue, I put my family before business and the rest and it all just seems to fall into place. Instead of scheduling my family around business, I handle business around my family.

“Southern Stylez” was kind of something I was always interested in.

Oh, and this would be the official release if I do go further with this i will be DJ SoSouth ;) MsiCandi: MC Hammer action figure, huh? I had the same thing but it was called the MC Hammer BARBIE DOLL!! hahahahaha Stylez: Nooooo, he was not a doll! (Frowns)

MsiCandi: As one of the first co-hosts of iCandi After Dark, what do you think of all the new changes thatʼs happening with iCandi Radio?

Stylez: I love change (for the better) so Iʼm very proud of the whole crew. When I first got word of the show I didnʼt know where it would go, but usually with things I never know; I just go with them.

MsiCandi: Letʼs talk graphics. You are off the chain when it comes to graphic designs. When did you first gain an interest in graphics?

Stylez: I kind of always had a creative mind. My earliest memory was selling drawings of Power Rangers in fourth grade for fifty cents.

MsiCandi: Whatʼs your proudest graphic designing moment (besides anything iCandi. I know how much you love those)?

Stylez: It really would be the first project I ever got paid to do, which I don't remember (Laughs), but one of my favorite and most fun would be a twitter poster I did for Best Buy. MsiCandi: So tell me about your promotion team.

How did that come about?

MsiCandi: So whatʼs next for Stylez? What upcoming projects do you have going on?

Stylez: Looking for events to invest in is what I have my eyes on currently. I have a lot of talented and well-connected people that I work side by side with and I was always taught "iron sharpens iron" so strong people together have no choice but to get stronger.

MsiCandi: Well, make sure you keep us in the loop with everything you have going on. Now before I let you go, I canʼt let you off the hook with out putting you on the “iCandi hot seat”. I hope you are ready......... #1 Whatʼs your proudest moment in your life (so far)?

“THE CONSCIOUS CORNER”

“SELF ESTEEM” Self esteem is listed as “confidence and satisfaction in oneself”. Most would say that education, love, religion, parents and MONEY make you successful in life, but if you don’t have one key characteristic in your life you will fall short of your goals or full potential. This important characteristic is “SELF ESTEEM”, and it’s the glue that can make or break you and something that most PRETEND to have but don’t. Looking at our society right now, the youth are screaming and shouting from the mountain tops that they lack “self respect”. A lot of young women are wearing anything that can bring attention to themselves; the tighter or the more exposed the better. A large percentage of our youth/adults don’t love themselves and feel the need to sell themselves to be accepted. Men are the same; cars/rims/clothes and jewelry make them feel successful. This is a myth, and far from the truth, and we need to take the time to STOP, LOOK and LISTEN to what is going on in our communities. This negative perception of beauty and success stems from a having a weak foundation at home and in our community. If your parent lacks self esteem it continues to spill over each generation. We don’t have the grandmothers out there sitting on the porch, telling you to pull up your pants, or to go put on some decent clothes anymore. Black families have lost focus on what is important. At the end of the day you have nothing but your “Name”; when you take away all the material things, can you still feel good about who you are as a person? We have to take pride in our “Name” again, be proud of being educated, be proud of helping your neighbor with the groceries, be proud that you want to wait to be married before having sex, be proud to be YOU. It’s up to the parents to show what a real confident woman/man looks, dresses, and acts like. Do you tell your children how beautiful they are on the INSIDE first and then focus on the outside, or do you focus just on the outside appearance?

We have to change from within to know that it’s okay to not be perfect, and even before that we must define what beauty is to our children. Beauty comes from within; you have to feel good about who you are as a person and work to be the best YOU. It starts from birth; you teach your children to love their hair if it’s kinky, curly or straight. Let them learn that from the minute they can open their eyes. Have them love their skin tone and shape of their body. Self esteem is built by consistency from birth, constantly giving praise, constantly showing love, constantly letting them feel the support to be themselves. It’s not something we can just do once a year; WE need to teach our youth and not allow the television to be their guide. The videos display nothing but skinny, curvy women, mostly light skin toned with almost no clothes on, and the men with money and cars. They see this EVERY DAY, so EVERY DAY we must fight back with images of Michelle Obama, Cicely Tyson, Jill Scott, and many more successful women who don’t have to be naked to be beautiful and successful. We as the parents and adults of this society have to provide the leadership to create the positive Self Esteem in our youth that will lead to positive adults. I will leave you with this: Be careful who you gain your knowledge from and who you look up to. An old African saying that I love and heard Maya Angeolu use states, ”Be careful taking a shirt from a naked man”. Love is about breaking down the barriers of race, religion, sexuality, and gender. Love is about tolerance of differences and accepting people as they are despite their faults. Love truly is blind!

The language of Love is full of compassion, concern, and patience. It is a language that spans the globe and appreciated by all. The language of Love looks for no personal gain, but instead focuses on the need of someone else. Take some time and think about what you can do to make this world a better place. Who do you know in your life that can use an encouraging word, a hug, or a loving smile? Spring into action and support a cause, become a mentor, start a charity, or a prayer group. We are in this life together and we all have one thing in common: the ability to give and receive Love. Speak the language of Love wherever you go and give freely the gifts that you have been blessed with.

JayLii MsiCandi: Hey JayLii!!! (Drip Drip)!! It’s been a while. I really want to thank you for taking the time and agreeing to be our iCandi lady of the month.

JayLii: I’m just so humbled to even be considered for an opportunity like this.

MsiCandi: I was first introduced to you through your music. A friend was sharing your single “Juicy Juice” to me. You were still pretty young. At what age were you first introduced to music?

JayLii: I’ve been rapping since I was six years old. I started taking my career seriously at the age of fourteen.

I found my first single “Juicy Juice” at the age of fifteen.

MsiCandi: I've actually kept up with you and your music though your YouTube channel (which I absolutely love). What gave you the idea to come up with “JayLiiWorLd”?

JayLii: Thank you so much. I’ve always felt like I was in my own world.

JayliiWorld is an actual Planet, where there is no limit to creativity. It’s a place where being yourself is accepted. There are no pretenders, no wannabes, just authentic souls.

People like me who only stand out because they could never fit in.

JayLii: So far my proudest moment would be every moment. Music has been consistent; I may have changed my style or lyrics but music has been the same. Universal, crossing all boundaries. I'm proud regardless.

MsiCandi: I know that we both have something in common: video production! You are doing great things with “EniaC Films and Photography”. When did your company start and what all do you offer?

JayLii: Yes, you’re the pro! EniaC Productions and Advertisement is a media marketing company focused on networking with different companies (Entertainment Networking to Incorporate All Creativity) is a multimedia and advertising company

“I met JayLii when she was 17 and even then I knew this girl would blow up” focused on films and photography. I started ENIAC a year ago and just recently got the logo and company trademarked and copyrighted. So it's ready for business!

MsiCandi: I know you were in Atlanta for a while. What is something that you learned there that you will take everywhere you go?

MsiCandi: If you could give young aspiring artists or career-driven youth any advice, what would it be?

JayLii: Atlanta was great and I had a lot of fun. One thing I know now is that a nice smile, nice clothes, fast talking, and a business card don’t mean anything. (Laughs)

JayLii: My advice would be to never follow advice. Music is from within. If you aspire, let destiny lead the way. If you love it, you’ll work hard. You’ll get there.

MsiCandi: What’s your proudest moment “musically” so far?

MsiCandi: What’s the plan for “JayLii” as a whole? What all do you want to get involved in, experience, and do with your brand?

JayLii: I don’t want fans, I want believers. Faith goes a long way. I want to be happy; CONTENT with who I am and what I can offer the world.

Nothing more, nothing less.

What’s Up Everybody!!!

As most of you know MsiCandi is “currently” stationed in Jacksonville, Fl (Duuuuval). I think it’s about time I introduce you to my Duval Team!! My portrait photographer came in from Cincinnati and hooked us up with a photoshoot, and for those that know us, we LOVE photoshoots. Eating Healthy This Spring

ollard Greens

The cooking time on the greens depends on you. They will be lighter, less tender, but will retain more vitamins the less they are cooked. The longer they are cooked the more tender they will be.

Ingredients: 2 tbsp oil 5 cloves garlic 1/4 cup onions, chopped 1/2 cup tomatoes, diced 1 bunch of collards, washed and chopped 1/2-1 cup veggie broth or water 2 tsp granulated garlic 1 tbsp soy sauce Pinch of black pepper or cayenne Sea salt to taste

Directions: 1. Stack greens and cut of stems 2. Roll stack of greens and cut into thin shreds about 1/4 -1/2 inch thick 3. Wash in a strainer until fully cleaned.

4. Saute garlic and onion in oil on med/ low heat until soft (3-5) min 5. Add tomatoes and greens, saute for 5 min 6. Add veggie broth, garlic powder, soy sauce and pepper cook for 15 min, cover, stirring occasionally.

Sea salt and black pepper to taste.
