VIDEO ASK INSTRUCTIONS & RECORDING TIPS

Generally good lighting is the most critical factor in achieving a great looking video. You should have some lighting FACING THE FRONT OF YOU and if possible, on both sides of your face to avoid shadows or dark imaging. Eliminate any strong lighting or sunlight behind the back of your head or directly over your head. Your background will frame your video so be aware of it and review your “first take” and “last take” to be sure there is nothing distracting or unattractive in the background of your video. Conversely, select a setting that will complement and or enhance the image you want to convey. Keep the background simple, neat and non-intrusive. A plain wall behind you is a bit bland so try to avoid.

The Video Ask video recording app is very straightforward. See INSERTED VIDEO below. The recording features Dr. Yvette Holmes recording an ICABA honoree promo video. Notice her “settling in” and pausing with a smile before recording the video and pausing to hold a smile at the end for 5 seconds to ensure a smooth and clean open and closing.

Follow the Video Ask application prompts and you will be ok.

Be sure to locate the “camera eye” on your laptop (please do not use your phone to record the video) and look directly into the camera eye versus the laptop screen. This creates the best connection with the viewer of your video as they feel you are looking directly at them versus looking down.

You will click the “record button” in the email you receive. It will countdown 3, 2 ,1 before recording.:

When you are ready to start recording, do not feel you have to start talking immediately. You should look/smile into the camera eye, relax for a few seconds, then start talking.

When you finish talking, MAINTAIN EYE CONTACT WITH THE CAMERA AND SMILE FOR 5 SECONDS before you stop recording.

This will enable us to be able to crop your video intro and start and close properly.

Audio is also important. Fortunately, most computers in the past 3-5 years have good microphones that should suffice.

Very seldom is one take for a video sufficient. However, if you are a one-take wonder, FANTASTIC! If you are a mere mortal like most of us, rest assured, the application will allow you to take as many takes as necessary. Thank you!!!
