Love For Lebanon This year Buena Vista Middle school - Colorado, in their World Culture Class and 11CPP IC - Beirut, in their Service Learning Class, are investigating, researching, communicating, teaching, learning, creating, reflecting and sharing in a project they named: ”Love For Lebanon” It all started after August 4. Lebanon, the Beirut port explosion, and the Lebanese people were in the news everywhere. Buena Vista Middle school students in Colorado felt that what happened in Lebanon was similar to what happened in the United States during 9/11. They wanted to know more about this small country called Lebanon, its people, and its culture. This is how their adventure with 11CPP students at IC started. Colorado students were curious about Lebanon and wanted to express their empathy towards the Lebanese people, and 11CPP helped them by answering their questions through a series of episodes telling each the story of a region of their country but also sharing their thoughts and feelings about all what they were going through.
Colorado Students Fundraiser for Lebanon
This is how Colorado students started seeing Lebanon through the eyes of 11 CPP students. Until now, two episodes were done and one is in the making. Despite its small size, there are so many things to tell about Lebanon, and it will not be unlikely if the project spreads over two academic years. Until now, the impact on Colorado students and their feedback was beyond what was expected. They became so eager to help Lebanon, created and sold bracelets to raise funds to send to a relief fund of their choice to help Lebanese people affected by the situation. They are sending drawings and trying to write in Arabic while their teacher is trying some of the Lebanese sweet recipes to taste with her students. Letters are exchanged between the two classes. A beautiful connection is taking place between the two classes and 11CPP are eager to learn more about their country’s geography, history, traditions and culture since they became the teachers and guides of the Colorado students in their virtual tour of Lebanon!
