Famed for its easy-going attitude to life, this island in the Mediterranean is a fabulous party venue but also a place where you can relax and contemplate. Ibiza casts an irresistible spell over its visitors; for many of them, it is a magical and mysterious island that is a source of artistic and esoteric inspiration. And particularly in the summer months, Ibiza becomes the world capital of electronic music. These many facets are reflected in the current issue of our magazine. In the carefree atmosphere that prevails here on our wonderful island, it is often easy to filter out the unpleasant news and forget the tribulations that afflict other people around the globe. So I hope you won’t mind if I draw your attention to a major ongoing situation, namely the nuclear disaster in Fukushima. This concerns us all, as similar events could happen anywhere in the world. Let us pause for one moment to consider the plight of those affected by the catastrophe. I extend a very sincere invitation to our charity event that will be held on 23rd July at the Blue Marlin. The purpose behind our WHITE ISLAND PROJECT Ibiza-Japan is to help those who are less fortunate than ourselves and who are forced to live in temporary accommodation. Even though this may only be a small gesture of support, please join us. Be part of it!

TATJANA MAUL winner of the O’Neill One Way Runway Model Search

utch contestant Tatjana Maul has won the O’Neill One Way Runway Model Search competition in Ibiza. Tatjana scored points with the judges not only for her physical attributes but for her nonchalant and playful demeanour on the catwalk. “It hasn’t quite sunk in yet,” Tatyana told us. “It all feels so surreal. I probably won’t realise how fantastic these days on Ibiza were until I’m back in Holland. I still can’t believe I’ve won!” The result is that Tatjana now has a contract from NEXT Global Modelling in her pocket and is set to be the star of the O’Neill 2012 Spring/Summer campaign. The panel will not have found it easy to make their final choice, because the contestants – many of them relatively inexperienced models – put on a fabulous show. The contestants were assessed not only on the basis of their dive from the four-metre-high ‘runway’ but also their overall performance on the catwalk. The girls were flown in to Ibiza from all over the world to showcase their talents on the cliffs of Cala Bassa. 

Tatjana obtuvo su puntuación no solo por sus encantos físicos, sino por su soltura y desenfado en la pasarela. «No termino de creerlo», nos decía Tatjana. «Todavía parece todo tan irreal… Hasta que no esté de vuelta en Holanda no asimilaré lo fantásticos que han sido estos días en Ibiza», continúa diciendo. «¡Aún no me puedo creer que haya ganado!» Gracias a la victoria, Tatjana se ha metido en el bolsillo un contrato como modelo del NEXT Global Modelling y se convertirá en la estrella de la temporada primavera-verano 2012 de O’Neill. Seguro que la decisión no fue fácil, ya que las modelos estuvieron magníficas, aun cuando algunas de ellas carecían de experiencia. No solo se valoró el salto realizado desde una rampa situada a 4 m de altura, sino también toda su actuación sobre la pasarela. Acudieron a Ibiza chicas provenientes de todo el mundo para presentarse sobre los acantilados rocosos de Cala Bassa. 

Erst wenn ich zurück in Holland bin, werde ich wohl realisieren, wie fantastisch diese Tage auf Ibiza waren,” fuhr Sie fort. “Ich kann es immer noch nicht glauben, dass ich gewonnen habe!” Tatjana hat damit einen Modelvertrag von NEXT Global Modelling in der Tasche und wird der Star der Frühlings - Sommerkampagne 2012 von O’Neill.Die Entscheidung war sicherlich nicht einfach, denn die zum Teil noch unerfahrenen Models zeigten eine super Show. Nicht nur der Sprung von der 4 Meter hohen Rampe wurde bewertet, sondern die gesamte Performance auf dem Laufsteg. Die Mädchen waren aus allen Teilen der Welt eingeflogen, um sich auf Ibiza auf den Felsklippen von Cala Bassa zu präsentieren. 

In making their choice, the marketing department of the LVMH Group subsidiary Moët & Chandon showed just what a fine ‘nose’ they have for the ideal location. hite Island Project Ibiza Japan is a charity initiative that has been set up to support the victims of the Japanese tsunami and its aftermath. The ongoing nuclear threat should be of concern to us all, as similar disasters could occur at any time in countless locations all over the world. With this initiative, we aim to express our sense of global solidarity. Photographer and performance artist Tom Leather and IBIZA STYLE editor Jürgen Bushe put their heads together to come up with the basic ‘White Island’ concept. Because white is the colour of mourning in Japan and, at the same time, is the colour that symbolises Ibiza. Furthermore, Japan and Ibiza are both islands. And if you believe the prophecies of Nostradamus, Ibiza will be the last refuge of humanity after Armageddon. In a campaign spanning several weeks, photo shoots were staged at various iconic locations around the Island. One of the highlights took place in the studio of the famous Spanish

The history of this project has also been recorded as a video documentary. The resulting works – photographs and paintings – go on display between 18th and 23rd July at the Blue Marlin Ibiza in Cala Jondal. And on 23rd July, the exhibition will be enhanced by the arrival of some unique bonsais. The charity evening starts the 23rd of July at 6pm and features a varied programme of events: By kind permission of Pioneer, DJ Hideyo Blackmoon from Japan will be operating the turntables, and she will be joined by her special guests from Denmark, Toomanylefthands. Also on display will be antique Japanese kimonos and valuable ceramics in Japanese style fashioned by the artist marAmar. So that the donations actually benefit the victims, the funds will not be handed over to any of the larger charities but will be channelled directly into an aid programme for the Fukushima victims that is being organised by Pioneer Tokyo. 

Whilst glancing around Cafe Sidney, the restaurant proprietor adds with a mischievous smile that former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder used to enjoy a sausage at the legendary snack bar. The restaurant in Marina Botafoch has had a makeover especially for the start of the season. Elegant chairs, longstemmed beige and light-green grasses placed in large expensive vases covered in mirror mosaics underscore the cafe’s cosmopolitan character. Music is provided daily by a different DJ from 9pm until 3am. This is not the only innovation at Café Sidney, where the terrace offers a fantastic view of Dalt Vila and the marina. A special, extremely affordable (€4.50) breakfast of coffee, fresh juice, pastries, toast or sandwiches with a choice of fillings gets you off to a flying start to the day. Die Klassiker eines guten Steakhauses findet man auf dieser Steakkarte: Entrecote und Ribeye aus Nebraska, Rinderfilet aus Deutschland. Alle serviert mit einer Ofenkartoffel mit Kräuterquark, Relish Soße, Chimichurri Soße und einer Soße aus 3 Pfeffern. Wer jedoch den fleischlichen Genüssen abschwören möchte, der kann zwischen Tapas, köstlichen Salatkreationen oder den 15 vegetarischen Gerichten, wie dem Spinatsalat mit Ziegenkäse, dem Rucola Salat mit gerösteten Pinienkernen oder den Fajitas Mexicanas mit Gemüse, süßsaurer Chilisoße, Guacamole und Kräuterfrischkäse wählen. Chillout Musik vermischt sich mit Stimmengemurmel, während vom Meer eine sanfte Brise auf die Terrasse des Restaurants weht. 

n 20th May, Andres and Elias invited friends and business partners to the official opening party for the newly refurbished Madrigal. The restaurant has actually been open for business since mid-April and is now enjoying great popularity. Its Mediterranean specialties are going down well with guests. Some come just for a snack or drink in the casually styled lounge area on the terrace. In the evenings, resident DJ Gustavo Sosa underscores the atmosphere with easy-going music and is occasionally accompanied by Deva Alchi live on the saxophone. For example, at the inauguración itself, when the champagne was flowing and the guests were treated to delicious tapas. 

El Madrigal abrió sus puertas ya a mediados de abril, y desde entonces ha venido cosechando una excelente acogida. Las especialidades mediterráneas hicieron las delicias de los invitados. Además, son muchos los que acuden simplemente para tomar un aperitivo o una copa en la elegante zona lounge de la terraza. Por las noches, el DJ residente Gustavo Sosa da un toque personal al ambiente con un sonido agradable, en muchas ocasiones acompañado por Deva Alchi en directo al saxofón. En la inauguración también corrieron ríos de champán y los invitados se dejaron mimar el paladar con deliciosas tapas. 

Abends untermalt hier Resident DJ Gustavo Sosa die Atmosphäre mit angenehmem Sound, an manchen Tagen von Deva Alchi live auf dem Saxophon begleitet. So auch zur Einweihung, da floss der Champagner in Strömen und die Gäste wurden mit leckeren Tapas verwöhnt. 

hat happens when a top restaurant and a top magazine get together to host a menú de degustación? The result is overbooking, because no gourmet on the Island worthy of the description would want to miss out on this particular event at the Restaurant Clodenis in San Rafael. Although the number of participants from the International Club de Gourmets de Ibiza was limited to fifty, the team led by David Oliel and chef de cuisine Miguel Gonzalez managed not only to seat seventy-five but to treat them all right royally. The atmosphere in all the rooms of this intimate restaurant was fantastic. No wonder when you contemplate the delectable fare that emerged from the kitchen, plus the excellent wines selected by Vila Vins to accompany each course. Amongst all the splendid dishes served up, the one singled out for most praise was shoulder of lamb that had been braised in the oven for twelve hours. A speciality on the new summer menu at Clodenis that you should definitely try. 

ué ocurre cuando un restaurante top y una tienda top aúnan sus fuerzas y ofrecen un menú de degustación? Solo puede suceder una cosa: overbooking. Eso es algo que no quiere perderse ningún sibarita de la isla. Aunque el número de participantes del International Club de Gourmets de Ibiza estaba limitado a cincuenta plazas en el Restaurante Clodenis de San Rafael, el equipo liderado por David Oliel y el chef Miguel González consiguió dar cabida y mimar los paladares de cincuenta y siete sibaritas. El ambiente que reinó en todas las salas de este agradable restaurante fue fantástico. Tampoco resulta de extrañar, habida cuenta de los exquisitos platos que salieron de la cocina. Los magníficos vinos seleccionados por Vila Vins, perfectamente armonizados con el menú, se encargaron del resto. Entre todos los magníficos platos, cosechó un éxito especial la paletilla de cordero asada durante 12 horas en el horno. Una especialidad en la nueva carta estival del Clodenis que nadie debe perderse. 

Die Stimmung in allen Räumen des gemütlichen Restaurants war fantastisch. Das war auch kein Wunder bei den leckeren Gerichten, die aus der Küche kamen. Und die hervorragenden Weine, passend zum Menü ausgewählt von Vila Vins, taten ihr übriges. Ganz besonders gelobt wurde neben allen anderen hervorragenden Gängen die 12 Stunden im Ofen geschmorte Lammschulter. Eine Spezialität auf der neuen Sommerkarte des Clodenis, die man unbedingt probieren sollte. 

n the garden of the restaurant Casa Colonial that was once part of an Ibicenco finca, torches with their tongues of flame cast a soft light on the Mediterranean plants and Buddhas seated in the Lotus position. A delicious smell of curry and grilled meat wafts from the other side of the restaurant that Günther Becker runs together with Wolfgang Lettner – mid-July marks their tenth year here.

This aroma reflects their culinary concept which is a fusion of Thai and French-Mediterranean cuisine. The meal begins with a variety of appetisers, a mix of Asian and light Mediterranean cuisine. The main course too, ranging from French specialities to curry and filet steak, tickles the taste buds with amazing flavours. Fine wines from Ibiza, Spain, France, Italy, Austria and California provide the perfect accompaniment. Apart from exclusive incentive events such as helicopter flights, power boat rallies and superb tours of Ibiza on horseback or on a Harley-Davidson, Casa Colonial can also offer catering for weddings, birthdays or business dinners for up to 500 people. “However, Casa Colonial is not a club but a restaurant with excellent cuisine,” says Günther. What does this former finca have in common with Spanish colonial style? Gunther says after a short pause: “The adjective ‘colonial’ is meant to be interpreted positively: Casa Colonial provides the ideal atmosphere in which to relax or conduct fruitful business discussions.” Whatever the case, the venerable Casa Colonial offers the ideal backdrop. 

ines form a natural canopy. White tables and chairs put guests at marc’s (restaurant, bar and bistro) in a relaxed frame of mind. Restaurant owner Marc Lindemann and his team are experts in creating the right atmosphere to delight and spoil their guests. The barbecue is the most important element in the garden of this restaurant which opened last year. Here, dishes of sushi, sashimi and other seafood specialities are now conjured up every Friday. On two Fridays each month, DJ Zappi plays groovy music to provide the right atmosphere, and on Saturdays from 8pm until 12.30am, Omar and his band play Cuban rhythms in the garden when the weather is fine. “For the ladies, some lighter fare such as Black Tiger shrimp skewers, sea bream or half lobster is on offer,” Marc tells us. On the other hand, men can treat themselves to such classics as Nuremburg sausages, chicken leg and specially imported American T-bone steaks and prime beef. In addition to the main menu which offers such delights as trio of fish with mange-tout, seared grilled tuna in sesame crust and Muscovy duck breast glazed with honey, Marc has just added an extra menu especially for the start of the chanterelle season that boasts cream of chanterelle soup, dishes with roasted chanterelles and meat and fish dishes suffused with the aromatic mushroom. El elemento más importante de este local que se abrió el año pasado es la parrilla del jardín, de la que cada viernes salen como por arte de magia Sushi, Sashimi y otros platos de pescado. Dos viernes de cada mes, DJ Zappi crea la atmósfera adecuada con sus sonidos groove y los sábados con buen tiempo de 8 de la tarde a 12:30 de la noche, Omar y su banda animan el jardín con ritmos cubanos. «Para las señoras hay platos algo más ligeros, como brochetas de langostinos tigre, dorada o medio bogavante», subraya Marc. En cambio, los caballeros se pueden dejar tentar con clásicos como salchichas de Nuremberg, muslos de aves de corral y chuletones t-bone y american prime beef importados de los EE. UU. Además de la carta principal, en la que se pueden encontrar delicatessen como el trío de pescados nobles con guisantes, el bonito a la parrilla poco hecho con costra de sésamo o la pechuga de pato de Barbarie glaseada con miel, Marc ha creado una carta especial adaptada a la temporada de cantarelas que comienza en la que figuran entre otras una crema de cantarelas, platos con cantarelas asadas, así como platos de carne y pescado combinados con esta aromática seta. Para completar este cuadro de sensaciones se debe acudir a la carta especial en la que se encuentran variedades selectas de champán, y vinos seleccionados en las mejores regiones españolas, francesas e italianas con denominación. 

Neben der Hauptkarte, auf der solche Köstlichkeiten, wie das Trio von Edelfischen mit Kaiserschoten, halbroh gegrillter Bonito in Sesamkruste oder die mit Honig glasierte Barbarie-Entenbrust zu finden sind, hat Marc gerade passend zur anbrechenden PfifferlingsSaison eine spezielle Karte kreiert, auf der unter anderem eine Pfifferlingsrahmsuppe, Gerichte mit gebratenen Pfifferlingen sowie Fleisch- und Fischgerichte in Kombination mit diesem aromatischen Pilz stehen. Für vollkommenen Genuss sorgen ausgesuchte Champagnersorten, die auf einer speziellen Karte zu finden sind und erlesene Weine aus den besten spanischen, französischen und italienischen Anbauregionen. 

With Carl Cox Space made it to the big time of the nightlife sector in 2002, so this year the artist’s tenth anniversary in the club is being celebrated. He will be celebrating it in the best way he knows how: by giving his public an 'all night long DJ-Set' on the same day as his night gets going. This year, the artist from Barbados’ project in Ibiza incorporates a number of important innovations such as the inclusion of Richie Hawtin for the first time.

Con Carl Cox Space entró por la puerta grande en el segmento del ocio nocturno en el año 2002, así que este año se celebra el décimo aniversario del artista en el club. Lo celebrará de la mejor manera que podría hacerlo, regalándole a su público un 'all night long DJ-Set' el misma día que arranca su noche. El proyecto del artista de Barbados en Ibiza incorpora este año novedades tan relevantes como la adhesión de Richie Hawtin por primera vez.

This is the second time that Kelis has performed in Ibiza. After her appearance at Pacha a few summers ago, the American singer will be landing in Amnesia at the invitation of MTV. The party will be opened by the rapper, Snoop Dogg, and one week afterwards it will be the turn of Kelis. The singer is working with some of the most popular producers currently around including David Guetta and Mark Ronson. With the Briton she has produced one of the songs on the latest Duran Duran album.

Es la segunda vez que Kelis actúa en Ibiza. Tras su paso por Pacha hace ya algunos veranos, la cantante americana aterrizará en Amnesia invitada por MTV. La fiesta la abrirá el rapero Snoop Dogg y una semana después será el turno de Kelis. La cantante está colaborando con algunos de los productores más de moda del momento, entre ellos David Guetta y Mark Ronson. Con el británico ha producido uno de los temas del último trabajo de Duran Duaran.

He worked with Pierre Cardin and André Courrèges and was the most outstanding and personal designer in the fashion industry on the island during the years he lived in Ibiza. In search of a fresh breath of air, Harvey Musin has begun a new phase in his love story with fashion by setting up his workshop and showroom in Barcelona, but he returns to Ibiza at the invitation of Rachel Parsons, director of Fashion Events at Atzaró to present his SS collection at the agro-tourism hotel.

Trabajó con Pierre Cardin y André Courrèges y ha sido durante los años que vivió en Ibiza el diseñador más destacado y personal de la industria de la moda de la isla. Deseoso de un soplo de aire fresco, Harvey Musin ha iniciado una nueva etapa en su historia de amor con la moda instalando su taller y showroom en Barcelona, pero vuelve a Ibiza invitado por Rachel Parsons, director de Fashion Events de Atzaró para presentar en el agroturismo su colección SS.

Just like every summer, the Symphonic Band of Ibiza Town takes to the streets to share their musical repertoire with tourists and residents. Conducted by Adolfo Villalonga, in its 2011 summer cycle it will be playing songs from Abba as well as from the operas Carmen and Jesus Christ Superstar. The Symphonic Band performs in Figueretas on July 9th, in Plaza Julián Verdera, at the Old Market on the 23rd and in Plaza del Parque on the 24th. The concerts, as ever, are free.

Como cada verano, la Banda Sinfónica Ciutat d'Eivissa sale a la calle para compartir con turistas y residentes su repertorio musical. Seafaring folk have always been people with deep-rooted beliefs. Boarding a boat and travelling at the mercy of the currents requires valour and a degree of faith. The Virgin of Carmen is the protector of those brave men and, as only could be, her natural environment is the sea. Every 16th of July Ibiza’s sailors take her out for a ride in boats that are decorated with garlands of flowers. It is a beautiful tradition that is especially celebrated in Portinaxt and Es Cubells.

La gente del mar ha sido siempre gente de arraigadas creencias. Subirse a un barco y viajar a merced de las corrientes requiere valor y algo de fe. La virgen del Carmen es la protectora de estos valientes y, cómo no ser de otro modo, su hábitat natural es el mar. Cada 16 de julio los marineros de Ibiza la sacan a pasear en barcos que adornan con guirnaldas de flores. Es una bella tradición que se celebra especialmente en Portinaxt y Es Cubells.

Die Meeranlieger sind seit jeher fest verwurzelt im Glauben. Wenn man an Bord eines Bootes geht und den Strömungen ausgesetzt ist, braucht man Mut und Glauben. Die Jungfrau Carmen ist die Schutzpatronin dieser tapferen Leute, deren Lebensraum das Meer ist. Am 16. Juli fahren die Seeleute Ibizas mit Blumen geschmückten Booten zu ihren Ehren auf das Meer hinaus - eine schöne Tradition, die vor allem in Portinaxt und Es Cubells aufrecht erhalten wird.

Long before the first tourists set foot in Formentera some time in the 20th century, the islanders were staging the annual festival of Sant Jaume in honour of their patron saint. This tradition lives on in our times in the form of folk dancing and ‘cantada pagesa’ in which a male and female singer will sing a duet that generally relates to the battle of the sexes.

Mucho antes de que el primer turista visitara Formentera a mediados del siglo XX, se celebraba ya en la isla un gran festejo en honor del patrono Sant Jaume a la conclusión de los meses de duro trabajo en los campos. Esta tradición se refleja también actualmente en algunos eventos festivos, como la danza campesina y los cantos típicos conocidos como «cantada pagesa». En ella, mozos y mozas expresan sus conflictos como pareja en forma de canción.

Jahrhunderts Formentera besuchte, wurde auf der Insel nach der monatelangen, harten Feldarbeit ein großes Fest zu Ehren des Schutzpatronen der Insel „Sant Jaume“ gefeiert. Diese Tradition spiegelt sich auch heute noch in einigen Festveranstaltungen, wie dem Bauerntanz und den typischen Liedern, der „cantada pagesa“ wider. When Ibiza was highly rural it was the festivities which marked the calendar in the countryside. With the arrival of summer the end of the harvest was celebrated; a harvest whose abundance was determined by the benevolence of the element of water. By way of a tribute, dances were organised around the wells; a tradition that still remains alive today. On the last day of July, the village’s dancers gather around the well of Labritja. They dance, hold toasts with wine and have fun.

Cuando Ibiza era eminentemente rural las fiestas las marcaba el calendario del campo. Con la llegada del verano se celebraba el fin de la cosecha, cuya abundancia venía determinada por la benevolencia del elemento agua. En torno a los pozos se organizaban bailes a modo de tributo, una tradición milenaria que todavía hoy sigue viva. El último de julio los danzarines del pueblo se reúnen en torno al pozo de Labritja. Bailan, brindan con vino y se divierten.

Als Ibiza noch einen völlig ländlichen Charakter hatte, besaßen die Feste eine hohe Bedeutung für das Volk. Mit der Ankunft des Sommers feierte man das Ende der Erntezeit, die vom Wohlwollen des Wetters bestimmt war. Rund um die Brunnen wurden Tänze als eine Art Tribut veranstaltet. Die uralte Tradition lebt auch heute noch. Am 31. Juli treffen sich die Tänzer des Dorfes rund um den Brunnen von Labritja und der von Wein sowie Tanz begleitete Spaß beginnt.

To commemorate the death of Hagen Voss in August 2010, the GALERÌA BERRI in SAN AUGUSTIN will be staging an exhibition of his works between 30th July and 11th August. The painter lived on the Island for 30 years. It was the natural light, the tranquillity, the landscapes, the contrasts and above all the mystique of Es Vedra that inspired the motifs for his pictures which grace collections both here in Spain and abroad.

Entre los días 30-07 y 11-08-2011 se celebra en la GALERÍA BERRI de SAN AUGUSTÍN una exposición en memoria del pintor fallecido en agosto de 2010. El pintor vivió 30 años en la isla. En ella encontró la paz que necesitaba para sus impresiones. La luz, la naturaleza, los paisajes, las contradicciones y sobre todo la mística de la isla «Es Vedrá» inspiraron los motivos de sus cuadros, exhibidos en numerosas colecciones nacionales y extranjeras.

The parties ranged from the “Opening Party” at SPACE, through its well known mainstream nights with “Be” and Armin Van Buuren as the star attraction, to the best underground party, “Kehakuma”. IBIZA STYLE was present to enjoy the good music and shows at the Space Opening Fiesta which went beyond all expectations and showed why Space Ibiza has been voted the best discotheque in the world. elcome once again to the music section which, this month, offers you a chronicle of concerts and interviews with famous artists who turned up or helped at the Grand Finale and the International Music Summit (IMS) conference cycle. It will also be bringing more news of national and local talents and their plans for the season which we hope turn out to be of interest to you and serve as help to go on promoting the artists that live on the island or choose our season’s settings in order to continue projecting their careers within the world of music and beyond. Let’s get started! This summer, the organisers of the IMS surprised us with two days of super concerts and live performances by DJs which were held on the stage that was set up for the occasion. The Thursday was the big innovation as, for the first time in four years, the space was used so that one of the best DJs and producers on the planet and a great seasonal resident in Ibiza, DAVID GUETTA, could also offer a performance. Those attending did not have to pay for an entrance ticket since according to Guetta himself, it was a way of saying thanks to Ibiza, his local public and to all those followers who are undying fans wherever he goes and have supported his career over the years.

Auch sollen hiermit talentierte Musiker und DJs Ibizas unterstützt werden, um ihre Auftritts-Termine bekannt zu geben und ihre Karriere in der Musikwelt zu fördern. Jetzt geht's aber endlich los! In diesem Sommer haben uns die Organisatoren des IMS zwei Tage lang mit super Konzerten und Live-Auftritten von DJs überrascht. Der Event wurde auf einer eigens für diesen Anlass aufgebauten Bühne in der Baluarte de Santa Lucia in Dalt Vila, die zum Weltkulturerbe zählt, veranstaltet. Im vierten Festivaljahr wurde erstmalig der Donnerstag als zusätzlicher Veranstaltungstag für einen Auftritt von DAVID GUETTA, einem der besten DJs bzw. Produzenten des Planeten und zugleich Saison-Inselresidenten, genutzt. Der Act war für die Zuschauer kostenlos. Guetta wollte sich hiermit einmal richtig bei Ibiza, seinem Publikum vor Ort und allen treuen Fans, die im Laufe der Jahre seine Karriere

The result of this performance was a new success for the artist, the free entrance tickets sold out in a blink of the eye and the production of the night fulfilled the expectations of the attending public. After his performance on this stage, David Guetta went straight to Pacha so that he could also play at the opening party of “Fu** Me I’m Famous”, a creation by the same artist in partnership with his wife, Cathy. This has been the star resident party in Pacha over the past few summers and week by week it manages to break records for attendance. So on the Thursday of the IMS, David Guetta kept an evening and night of very important commitments and presentations in order to get the 2011 season off on the right foot. Meanwhile, on the Friday of the IMS Grand Finale, the public hotly awaited the performances of two groups and great representatives of contemporary electronic music; HERCULES & LOVE AFFAIR and JAPANESE POP STARS who this year offered spectacular concerts which had a magical effect on the numerous public which turned the esplanade of the Baluarte de Santa Lucia into a huge dance floor with some of the very best views of the city fused with the Mediterranean’s horizon. Die kostenlosen Eintrittskarten waren in null Komma nichts vergriffen, und die Darbietung übertraf alle Erwartungen des Publikums. Nach seinem Auftritt auf der IMS-Bühne führte David Guettas Weg direkt ins Pacha, um auf der dortigen Eröffnungsparty „F*** Me I’m Famous“, seiner eigenen und in Zusammenarbeit mit seiner Frau Cathy organisierten Veranstaltung zu spielen. Dabei handelt es sich seit mehreren Sommern um die „mega“ angesagte Resident-Party im Pacha und jede Woche werden neue Besucherrekorde erzielt. Insofern musste David Guetta am IMS-Donnerstag eine Doppelschicht übernehmen, um seinen Verpflichtungen für die Saison 2011 wie ein Profi nachzukommen. Als der Freitag mit dem vom Publikum sehnlichst erwarteten IMS-Gran-Finale endlich kam, waren alle gespannt auf die Auftritte von zwei Bands und wichtigen Vertretern der zeitgenössischen elektronischen Musik: HERCULES & LOVE AFFAIR sowie JAPANESE POP STARS. Beide überzeugten und boten spektakuläre Konzerte, die das Publikum zu verzaubern schienen und aus der Esplanade des Baluarte de Santa Lucia eine Riesentanzfläche mit bester Aussicht auf die mit dem Horizont des Mittelmeeres scheinbar verschmelzende Stadt bot.

(lacht) der Name zeigt eigentlich unseren Sinn für Humor, aber auch unseren großen Respekt für die japanische Kultur. Ich hatte schon immer vor, nach Japan zu ziehen... Das mit dem Bandnamen war meine Idee und daher beantworte meist ich diese Frage. Japan hatte schon immer eine große Anziehungskraft auf mich. Ich bewundere das Land und seine Kultur.

Japan and its culture, I thought that the Irish artists that make “pop” aren’t attractive in an exotic way so the idea emerged of what I imagined would be a good combination of things that I liked...” IS – What is the UK – Ibiza connection? JPS – “This is the fourth year that we have come back and we have already played more than nine shows here. As DJs we were in Wonderland with Pete Tong and he has invited us to go back to play at that party more than two times, season after season. We believe that Pete Tong is the main connection between the country we come from, England and Ibiza. This year is the first time that we have played a concert on the island as part of the IMS line up which has turned out to be something incredible!” IS – Many bands or artists would like to have the privilege to play on the stage of the IMS in quite such a special location– Dalt Vila – a World Heritage Site: what feeling did you take away from the live performance? JPS - “To start off: it’s an absolutely spectacular location; we have played in many festivals all over the world but we’ve almost never managed to have the chance to play on a hilltop as high as the one where this stage was sited... It’s 7 in the evening in Ibiza and from up here we have got an incredibly beautiful view that has left us breathless!” IS – Is the live music you played this evening

JPS - “Para empezar es una locación absolutamente espectacular, tocamos en muchos festivales alrededor del mundo pero casi nunca llegamos a tener la oportunidad de tocar en una cima tan alta como donde está ubicado este escenario... Son las 7 de la tarde en Ibiza y desde aquí arriba hemos tenido una vista increíblemente hermosa que nos dejado sin respiración!” IS – La música en directo que habéis tocado esta tarde es lo que normalmente suele escuchar la gente durante otros conciertos en otros festivales? JPS - “Absolutamente no, al contrario, es totalmente opuesto a lo que normalmente tocamos... Hoy hemos llegado y tocado muy temprano , así que hemos hecho un set con carácter mas ‘baleárico’ y de verano, generalmente nos programan mucho mas tarde, cuando ya es de noche, tarde y siempre tocamos para publico mas loco, que tira sus manos al aire mientras tocamos tracks mas ácidos... JPS – „Wir kommen schon vier Jahre hier her und sind neun Mal auf Ibiza aufgetreten. Als DJs waren wir im Wonderland mit Pete Tong. Er hat uns immer wieder eingeladen, bei dieser Veranstaltung aufzulegen und das mehr als zweimal pro Saison. Für uns ist Pete Tong die wichtigste Verbindungsperson zwischen unserem Heimatland, England und Ibiza. Wir sind wirklich schwer begeistert, dass wir in diesem Jahr im Rahmen des offiziellen Line-ups auf dem IMS auftreten durften!“ IS - Viele Bands oder Künstler würden sicher gerne im Rahmen des IMS und auf einer Bühne an so einem besonderen Ort wie dem Weltkulturerbe Dalt Vila auftreten. Was denkt Ihr jetzt nach Eurem Liveauftritt darüber? JPS – „Gleich vorweggesagt: Es ist eine wirklich tolle Location. Wir haben schon auf vielen Festivals weltweit gespielt, aber fast nie hatten wir die Gelegenheit so weit oben in einer befestigten Anlage zu spielen, wie in dieser hier in Ibiza ... Es ist jetzt 19.00 Uhr in Ibiza und von hier oben hat man einen unglaublich schönen Ausblick, der uns wirklich überwältigt hat!“ IS - Ist die Live-Musik, die Ihr an diesem Nachmittag gespielt habt, vergleichbar mit dem, was Eurer Publikum bei Konzerten auf anderen Festivals zu hören bekommt? JPS – „Nein, absolut nicht – im Gegenteil, sie war das genaue Gegenteil von dem, was wir normalerweise spielen... Heute sind wir sehr früh aufgetreten und daher hatte unser Set eher einen sommerlichen „Balearic Sound“-Charakter. Normalerweise treten wir sehr viel später auf, wenn es schon Nacht oder Abend ist, und fast immer spielen wir für verrückteres Publikum. Bei unseren „Acid Tracks“ strecken die Leute zum Beispiel ihre Hände ständig in die Luft und lassen dann die Post abgehen... Was wir heute Nachmittag zum ersten Mal live

what people normally listen to during other concerts in other festivals? JPS - “Absolutely not, on the contrary, it is totally the opposite of what we normally play... We arrived today and played very early on so we did a set with a more ‘Balearic’, summer feel to it. Generally, they program us to play much later on, when night has already fallen, late and we always play for a crazier public that throws its hands in the air when we play more “acid” based tracks... What we played this evening we did so live, for the first time and we will probably never be able to do it the same way again, it was spontaneous and unique.” IS – What’s your latest studio work and when is it going to be launched on the market? JPS - “Well, our album ‘Controlling your Allegiance’ will be launched at the end of June and we are really excited because two and a half years have gone by since we started working on it. We were helped by great artists such as Green Velvet, Robert Smith from The Cure, Lisa Hannigan and Tom Smith, lead singer of The Editors...” IS – What is it that makes Ibiza so special in comparison with other places where you go to play? JPS - “Ibiza is absolutely amazing; it has a fantastic atmosphere, we simply love coming here although whenever we come it is because of work. In fact, we don’t feel as if we were doing any since it generally seems to be a relaxed place. What’s more, it has got a very good music scene. We are lucky to have the job we do; we’re working hard but we are lucky to be able to be here this evening...Thanks!” Other artists and events that we recommended last month in this section were the live performances by P.Brothers who played at Blue Marlin. After this dynamic duo from Barcelona attended our radio program as guests and their ‘Live set’ captivated us in the studio, we also went to see them in concert and thanks to being multi-instrumental musicians and the fusion of electronic music, funk and jazz they achieve, they really are great. PB - “Hoy en día es difícil definir a una banda por un sólo estilo. makes the P Brothers style of producing so unique? PB - “Nowadays it’s difficult to define a band by one single style. P Brothers are between electronic music and jazz/funk but as producers we bring an endless amount of influences from musical tradition taking us to the frontier of the avant-garde.” IS – Approximately when will the first P Brothers LP be launched and who were the other artists that took part in making the tracks? PB - “We still do not exactly know. The album is practically finished and the date of release will be decided by the record label we end up working with (before the end of the year for sure). The album is entirely composed and produced by P-Brothers. Two of the tracks feature the great voice of Danna Leese (EEUU) and on two of the others, the prodigious tenor sax of the Basque singer, Gorka Benítez.” IS – What is the single called with which the P Brothers are making a name for themselves at the moment? PB - “Something in the air” IS – How were P Brothers discovered so that they are right now appearing in Ibiza in their live shows at Blue Marlin? PB - “We had been doing our live shows for a few years all over the world and Ibiza was a place where we had never been. We arrived at

Für diesen Sommer gründete er mit einem guten Team die Event-Agentur „Bella Música Events“. Er hat drei interessante Locations gefunden, an denen wir wöchentlich bald wieder qualitativ anspruchsvolle Musik in angenehmer Atmosphäre an wirklich besonderen Orten genießen werden können. Den Anfang macht das Can Tixedo (Ctra. San Rafael-Santa Agnes) ab Dienstag, den 5. Juli. Es folgt das Festival „Viva Balearic“, für das José Padilla und Enrique Domenech die musikalische Auswahl übernehmen. Immer Mittwochs ab dem 6. omething is moving in the Ibizan countryside and it seems to be going in the right way. Can Malacosta trys to save the impoverished areas under cultivation in the island's interior by maintaining a concern that as well as being profitable is even. This family business, more than half a century old, is devoted to producing food, agriculture and the catering trade. And, ever since five years ago, it has been marketing a range of jams produced in the traditional way with local fruit that is gaining ground among consumers, both local and visiting. So, what is so special about this firm? Well, it uses produce that comes from its own finca bearing the same name on an area of 5 ha situated in Sant Carles. It has two thousand peach and nectarine trees.. «Everything comes from here. There is nothing from outside», Vicent Roig Planells, the person in charge of Can Malacosta stresses. «We use quality fresh fruit - either ours or that of other farmers - but always Ibicencan. In the preparation which is carried out by hand we do not use any kind of additive, preservative or colouring. The pulp is chopped up, cooked and then sugar is added. Once it has cooled down, the resulting jam is ladled out into well cared for glass jars. Owing to the fact that it is prepared naturally, the colour of the fruit varies according to the season when it was picked», explains Roig Planells. At the moment, there are six kinds: strawberry, fig, onion, caramelised onion and the aforementioned nectarine and peach. Production has reached around 60,000 jars a year, a volume that is still modest enough but which holds great promise. «Most of all, we sell to food suppliers and shops although we have managed to probe external markets such as Ciudad Real, where we have even got a distributor. We are also present in Barcelona and, when it comes to abroad, we have already made inroads in Germany», the head of Can Malacosta points out. «There are other people making jam, I agree, and on a smaller scale, but we represent the only registered company from Eivissa. I hope the same thing happens to us as happened to the olive oil people who have already been awarded a certificate of origin by the Island Council». 

Esta empresa familiar, de medio siglo de existencia, se dedica al negocio genérico de la alimentación, la agricultura y la hostelería. Y, desde hace cinco años, comercializa una serie de mermeladas elaboradas al modo tradicional con frutas autóctonas que va ganando terreno entre los consumidores, tanto locales como visitantes. ¿Qué tiene de particular esta firma? Pues emplea materiales procedentes de su propia finca, homónima, de cinco hectáreas de superficie, situada en Sant Carles. Posee dos mil árboles de melocotón y nectarina. «Todo es de aquí. Nada viene de fuera», enfatiza Vicent Roig Planells, encargado de Can Malacosta. «Utilizamos fruta fresca de calidad, o nuestra o de otros campesinos, pero siempre ibicenca. En la elaboración, que se realiza de forma manual, no introducimos ningún tipo de aditivo, conservante o colorante. La pulpa se trocea, se cuece y luego se le añade azúcar. Una vez enfriada, la mermelada resultante se distribuye en cuidados envases de cristal. Debido a su preparación natural, el color de la fruta varía en función de la temporada de recogida», explica Roig Planells. De momento, salen seis clases: fresa, higo, cebolla, cebolla caramelizada y las ya mencionadas nectarina y melocotón. La producción se sitúa en torno a los 60.000 botes anuales, un volumen aún modesto, pero muy prometedor. «Vendemos especialmente a cadenas de alimentación y tiendas, aunque hemos logrado tocar mercados exteriores como Ciudad Real, donde disponemos hasta de distribuidor. También estamos presentes en Barcelona y, por lo que se refiere al extranjero, ya hemos irrumpido en Alemania», señala el responsable de Can Malacosta. «Hay más gente que hace mermelada, de acuerdo, y a una escala menor, pero nosotros constituimos la única empresa registrada de Eivissa. Ojalá nos ocurra lo mismo que les ha pasado a los del aceite, que ya han conseguido el sello de certificación de origen del Consell». 

Dies gilt sowohl für Residenten als auch Inselbesucher. Was hat diese Firma denn nun so Besonderes? Nun, sie verwendet Produkte, die auf ihrem gleichnamigen, 5 Hektar grossen Gut in San Carlos angebaut werden. Dort stehen zweitausend Pfirsich –und Nektarienbäume. „Es ist alles von hier. Es kommt nichts von auswärts“, betont Vicent Roig Planells, der Geschäftsführer von Can Malacosta. „Wir verwenden frisches Qualitätsobst, entweder unser eigenes oder das von anderen Bauern, aber es kommt immer aus Ibiza. Bei der manuellen Bearbeitung werden keinerlei Zusatz-, Konservierungs- oder Farbstoffe benutzt. Das Fruchtfleisch wird geschnitten, gekocht und danach wird ihm der Zucker zugesetzt. Nach dem Abkühlen wird die Marmelade dann in hübsche Gläser umgefüllt. Aufgrund ihrer völlig natürlichen Herstellung kann die Farbe der Früchte je nach Erntezeit variieren. Derzeit werden sechs Sorten hergestellt: Erdbeere, Feige, Zwiebel, karamellisierte Zwiebel und die schon genannten Pfirsische und Nektarinen. Die Produktion beträgt ungefähr 60.000 Gläser im Jahr. Das ist noch relativ bescheiden, aber vielversprechend. „Wir verkaufen vorwiegend an Lebensmittelketten und Geschäfte, aber wir haben es auch geschafft auf externen Märkten wie denen in Ciudad Real zu verkaufen, wo wir sogar einen Vertriebshändler haben. Wir sind auch in Barcelona vertreten und sogar in Deutschland“, erklärt der Geschäftsführer von Can Malacosta. „Klar gibt es mehr Leute, die Marmelade in kleinerem Stil machen, aber wir sind das einzige auf Ibiza registrierte Unternehmen. Hoffentlich bekommen wir – genau wie die Olivenölproduzenten – das Ursprungssiegel des Inselrates, das denen bereits verliehen wurde“. 

ust a few decades ago, when the island still lived from agriculture and fishing, the poor carob didn’t get a very good press. It was considered to be a food of the very poorest classes and even the farmers fattened up their pigs on such a discredited fruit. But all that is over. Now this situation has undergone a radical about-turn. Carob is no longer associated with the hunger of the post-war era and cheap livestock feed. Just the opposite: it is beginning to acquire a pedigree it never had. The 1st Eivissa Carob Conference held in Santa Eularia last June showed that this much-maligned member of the legume family which is spread throughout the Mediterranean area aspires to occupy an important place in the catering sector owing to its “extraordinary nutritional value” which has made it become an “innovatory culinary product”, according to Javier Alcaraz, the person in charge of the Office of Communication of the Centre for Advanced Studies of Eivissa and Formentera (CEAV). Such is the direction taken by this initiative aimed, on the way, at guaranteeing the «future preservation of a tree that is so emblematic of the Pitiüses”. Under the title “Human consumption of carob for sustainable local development” and with a duration of three days, national and international experts, technicians, kitchen professionals, farmers who are in tune, dieticians and numerous parties inter-

Tal es el rumbo que toma esta iniciativa encaminada, de paso, a garantizar la «futura conservación de un árbol tan emblemático para las Pitiüses». Der 1.Johannisbrotkongress auf Ibiza, der im Juni in Santa Eulària stattfand, beweist, dass dieser geringgeschätzte und im Mittelmeerraum sehr weitverbreitete Vertreter der Familie der Hülsenfrüchte anstrebt, aufgrund seines „ außerordentlich hohen Nährwertes“ einen wichtigen Platz in der Gastronomie einzunehmen. Hierdurch wird es zu einem „kulinarisch innovativen Produkt“, wie Javier Alcaraz, der Leiter des Kommunikationsbüros des „Centro de Estudios Avanzados de Eivissa y Formentera (CEAV)“ sagt. Diese Initiative soll zudem die „zukünftige Erhaltung“ eines für Ibiza so emblematischen Baumes gewährleisten. The people behind it sum up the main aims in few sentences: “to promote a socio-economic fabric in our island based around the creation of gastronomic carob products, to manage to market it under the Balearic ecological label and to allow farmers to receive a dignified wage for harvesting it”. The cooperative in Sant Antoni de Portmany is already selling the flour. With regard to the purely culinary aspect, carob presents a range of options when it comes to inventing dishes, in particular, desserts. With it we are able to make liquors, sweet wine, coffee (without caffeine), a variety of sponges and tarts, ‘panellets’, cupcakes, sweets, truffles, biscuits, ‘greixonera’, syrup, bread, pies, flans, lasagna, shakes, ice creams, teas and soap. “Carob is the chocolate of Eivissa”, stated the sign of one of the exhibitors. Precisely: it constitutes a magnificent alternative to cocoa as it contains less fats and it lacks stimulatory substances. Hippocrates already said it: “let food be your medicine”. We are looking at yet another good idea to bring the abandonment that the Ibizan countryside suffers and continues to suffer to an end. 

Sus artífices resumen los principales objetivos en unas pocas frases: «promocionar un tejido socioeconómico en nuestra isla alrededor de la elaboración de productos gastronómicos de algarroba, alcanzar una comercialización con el sello ecológico balear y permitir que los campesinos reciban un salario digno por sus cosechas» La cooperativa de Sant Antoni de Portmany ya dispone de harina para su venta. En cuanto al aspecto meramente culinario, la algarroba presenta múltiples opciones a la hora de imaginar platos, en especial de repostería. Con ellas podemos elaborar licores, vino dulce, café (sin cafeína), una variada gama de bizcochos y tartas, ‘panellets’, magdalenas, bombones, trufas, galletas, ‘greixonera’, sirope, pan, empanadas, flanes, lasaña, batidos, helados, infusiones y también jabón. «La algarroba es el chocolate de Eivissa», rezaba el cartel de uno de los expositores. Efectivamente, constituye una magnífica alternativa al cacao, pues contiene menos grasas y carece de sustancias estimulantes. Ya lo decía Hipócrates: «que tu alimento sea tu medicina». Nos hallamos ante otra buena idea para terminar con el abandono que sufre, sigue padeciendo, el campo ibicenco. 

Abgesehen von Vorträgen und Schaukochen wurde auf dem Rathausplatz von Villa del Río die erste Ausgabe der „Gastronomiemesse für Johannisbrotprodukte aus Ibiza“ abgehalten. Ihre Gründer fassen die wichtigsten Ziele in wenigen Sätzen zusammen: „Schaffung eines sozioökonomischen Netzes auf unserer Insel rund um die Herstellung von Johannisbrotprodukten. Wir wollen eine Vermarktung mit dem balearischen Ökosiegel schaffen, damit die Bauern ein angemessenes Einkommen für ihre Ernten erzielen.“ Die Kooperative von Sant Antoni de Portmany schon Mehl zum Verkauf an. Im Hinblick auf den rein kulinarischen Aspekt bietet das Johannisbrot sehr viele Möglichkeiten für neue Gerichte, vor allem für Backwaren. Man kann mit ihm auch Liköre, Süßwein, Kaffee (koffeinfrei), eine Vielzahl an Kuchen und Torten, „Panellets“, Muffins, Pralinen, Trüffel, Kekse „Greixonera“, Sirup, Brot, Teigtaschen, Puddings, Lasagne, Milchshakes, Eiscreme, Tees und sogar Seife machen. „Johannisbrot ist die Schokolade Ibizas“, steht auf dem Schild eines Ausstellers. Es ist tatsächlich eine fantastische Alternative zum Kakao, denn es hat weniger Fett und enthält keine Aufputschmittel. Schon Hippokrates sagte: “Lass die Nahrung dein Heilmittel sein“. Es handelt sich hier um eine weitere gute Idee, die Vernachlässigung, unter der die Landwirtschaft auf Ibiza litt und leidet, zu beenden. 

In Spain the use of a safety belt in cars, both in front and back seats, is obligatory. The use of a helmet on motorcycles is also obligatory; failure to do so is considered to be a serious offence and a minimum fine of 200 Euros will be levied along with the withdrawal of 3 points from one’s driving licence. When the offender cannot prove their legal residence in Spanish territory, the police officer who registers the offence will set provisionally the amount of the fine and, if the amount is not settled, the driver will have to move the vehicle and immobilise it in the place indicated by the officer registering the offence. Any company that wishes to contribute to reducing traffic accidents in the working environment and thus benefit from a reduction in Social Security payments should develop a Mobility and Highway Safety Plan (www.mir.es).

En España es obligatorio el uso del cinturón de seguridad en los coches, tanto en los asientos delanteros como en los traseros, también es obligatorio el uso del casco en las motos, su no utilización se considera una infracción grave y se le aplica una sanción de multa de mínimo 200 euros y retirada de 3 puntos. Cuando el infractor de tráfico no acredite su residencia legal en territorio español, el Agente denunciante fijará provisionalmente la cuantía de la multa y, de no depositarse su importe, el conductor deberá trasladar el vehículo e inmovilizarlo en el lugar indicado por el Agente denunciante. Toda empresa que desee contribuir a reducir los accidentes de tráfico en el ámbito laboral y así beneficiarse de la reducción de las cotizaciones a la Seguridad Social, debe desarrollar un Plan de movilidad y seguridad vial (www.mir.es).

For this purpose, sharp weapons with a blade length of less than 11 cms, those possessing two blades and those which are pointed will be considered as knives. The marketing, advertising, purchase or sale, possession or use of non-flick knives with a blade length of more than 11 cms – measured from the edge or top of the handle to the end – is also prohibited. The minimum fine levied is 300 euros. 

Está prohibida la fabricación, importación, circulación, publicidad, compraventa, tenencia y uso de los puñales de cualquier clase y las navajas llamadas automáticas. Se considerarán puñales a estos efectos las armas blancas de hoja menor de 11 centímetros, de dos filos y puntiaguda. También está prohibida la comercialización, publicidad, compraventa, tenencia y uso de las navajas no automáticas cuya hoja exceda de 11 centímetros, medidos desde el reborde o tope del mango hasta el extremo. La sanción mínima es de 300 euros. 

WAFFEN Die Herstellung, Einfuhr, Verbreitung, Bewerbung, Verkauf, Besitz und Gebrauch von Dolchen jeglicher Art und Navaja-Springmessern mit Öffnungsmechanismus sind verboten. Zu Dolchen und in diesem Sinne zu Stichwaffen zählen diejenigen mit einer Klingenlänge unter 11 cm, zweischneidigen Klingen und spitze Stoßdolche. Ebenfalls untersagt sind die Vermarktung, Bewerbung, Verkauf, Besitz und Gebrauch von nicht-automatischen Messern mit einer Klingenlänge von mehr als 11 Zentimetern (vom Griffende bis zur Klingenspitze gemessen). Die Mindeststrafe bei einem Verstoß beträgt 300 €.


