FROM THE PRES. & EXEC. DIR

FROM THE PRESIDENT & EXEC.DIR.

Little did any of us expect that nearly two years ago we would be confronting a historic pandemic. As it continues to affect the world, there is one thing that we can all agree upon – we are in this battle together. To quote President Lyndon B. Johnson of the United States, “There are no problems we cannot solve together, and very few that we can solve by ourselves.” IAPS, as an international organization representing pastel member societies from around the world, knows the importance of President Johnson’s words. Together, as individual artists and members of our respective pastel societies, we continue the mission of advancing the fine art medium of pastel.

The team here at IAPS has had many difficult decisions to make during these challenging times, and much diligence has gone into those by the board of directors, officers, and committees involved in the various projects offered to our membership. From the expansion of our exhibitions, scholastic opportunities, publication of our magazine The Globe, and the planning of the 2022 IAPS Convention, the words of Albert Einstein have echoed in our ears: “In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.” As the world continues to change and adapt, IAPS will continue to find new opportunities to serve its membership.

To everyone who has supported us, and to those who have given so generously of their wisdom, time, and energy, a heartfelt Thank You!

NOTE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR:

Since the last issue, the majority of my time has been focused on the upcoming convention. Due to the unusual circumstances, the process this time is very different. Every decision made has been intended to keep us all safe and ensure everyone has a great time at the convention. Working in sync with the executive committee, we implemented a three-tiered system for registration. For all of you who are coming to the convention, the registration opened November 15. Please take a look at the instructors and class descriptions in this issue – we have so much to offer! Class sales will begin on January 4, 2022. It is shaping up to be an amazing convention, and I cannot wait to be together again in beautiful Albuquerque.
