Finding inspiration

Welcome to the first edition of The Coronet for 2022. It has been a busy first half of the year for The Ian Potter Cultural Trust team.

We welcomed two new staff members, Louise Joel and Paula Cruz Manrique, this month.

Louise has joined the team as Program Manager responsible for The Ian Potter Foundation's Vibrant funding pillar, including The Ian Potter Cultural Trust, The Ian Potter Moving Image Commission, and the Foundation's Arts program area.

For the last 15 years, Louise has worked in various roles in the Australian and International Arts sectors and brings a wealth of knowledge to her role. Paula has stepped into the role

of Program Officer, responsible for supporting the Foundation's program management Subscribe Past Issues team, including assisting Louise with the administration of the Cultural Trust. Please join me in welcoming Louise and Paula to our team.

With international travel once again possible, The Ian Potter Cultural Trust has resumed business as usual and reopened its Funding Rounds for 2022. For the first Funding Round of 2022, 22 emerging artists were awarded Cultural Trust grants to travel to various countries, including Iceland, Greece and Austria, where they will pursue opportunities tailored to their artistic practice.

Learning about our newest grantees' unique professional development opportunities is equally inspiring and surreal when contemplating the COVID-19 pandemic's effects on the arts sector, individual artists, and international travel.

In this newsletter, two new grantees – Josie Alexandra and Laura Jackson – share their development projects and how their multi-disciplinary artistic practices will be enriched through their respective opportunities.

I encourage anyone finding inspiration in the stories of our newest grantees to share the Trust's current funding round information with your artistic communities.

Round 1, 2022

New grantees

Morgan is a contemporary music grantee who is being supported to undertake research and development through an expedition across the Vatnajökull glacier in Iceland with the Icelandic Glaciological Society and two artist residencies at Gullkistan Artists Residency and Holden Garage; Laugarvatn, Iceland and Berlin, Germany.

For the first round of 2022, 22 emerging artists were awarded $209,180 in grants. Our latest grantees will travel to 10 different countries, including Iceland, Greece and Austria, undertaking professional development programs in areas such as information experience design and orchestral performance.
