Anyartistwhohasappliedforanartistgrantknowstheyarecompetingagainstmanyother worthyrecipients.ThisisnolessthecaseforourCulturalTrustgrantapplicantswhichis whyitisanachievementtoreceiveanIanPotterCulturalTrustemergingartistgrant.Grant recipientstrulyareoutstandingartistsintheirchosenfieldofendeavour.
AcrosstheArtssectorthereisincreasedcompetitionforfundingleadingtoagreater demandforgrants.Inresponse,theCulturalTrusthasbeenincreasinglyselectiveinits grantmaking.ThisneedforgreaterdiscernmentisalsotheresultoftheCulturalTrust’s fundingbeingtemporarilyreduced. TheCulturalTrustissolelyfundedbytheIanPotter Foundationwhichcurrentlyhassomesignificantfundingcommitments,includingseveral majorArtssectorgrants.Consequently,thishasledtotheFoundationreducingfundingfor severalofitsprogramareasincludingtheCulturalTrustover2017and2018.

Lookingoverthestoriesinthisnewsletterandthefeaturegranteesinourrecently publishedCulturalTrustAnnualReport2015–16,Iamagainimpressedbythediverseand impressivetalentsweattractthroughtheTrust’sgrantprogramandIPMIC. Despitea morediscerningandcompetitiveapplicationreviewprocess,itissopleasingtosee continueddiversityofpracticeareasreflectedintheapplicationswereceive.We encourageapplicantspractisingallartformstoapplywhetheritbevisualarts,designor craft,communityarts,literature,performancearts,conservation,movingimageor

multimedia,orperhapsotheremergingartforms.
Welookforwardtoseeingwhatourfutureartistshaveinstoreforus.Inthemeantime,I trustyoutoowillenjoyreadingaboutourpastandpresentgranteesandjoinusin celebratingtheirartisticpotentialandachievements.

SinceMarch,thethirdIanPotterMovingImageCommission(IPMIC3)applicationprocess hasbeenwellunderway TheTrustreceivedmorethan40applicationsforthethird commissioninthisseries,anincreaseonthepreviouscommissionapplicationsin2014.
ShortlistinghasnowbeencompletedbytheJudgingPanelwithfourapplicationsselected forfurtherdevelopment.ThewinnerofIPMIC3willbeannouncedbyACMIandtheCultural TrustinDecember2016.
