NowthereforeletPharaohlookoutamandiscreetandwise,andsethimoverthelandofEgypt.Let Pharaohdothis,andlethimappointofficersovertheland,andtakeupthefifthpartofthelandof EgyptinthesevenplenteousyearsAndletthemgatherallthefoodofthosegoodyearsthatcome, andlayupcornunderthehandofPharaoh,andletthemkeepfoodinthecities.Andthatfoodshall beforstoretothelandagainstthesevenyearsoffamine,whichshallbeinthelandofEgypt;thatthe landperishnotthroughthefamine.Genesis41:33-36
Andhegatheredupallthefoodofthesevenyears,whichwereinthelandofEgypt,andlaidupthe foodinthecities:thefoodofthefield,whichwasroundabouteverycity,laidheupinthesame. Genesis41:48

AndJosephnourishedhisfather,andhisbrethren,andallhisfather'shousehold,withbread, accordingtotheirfamiliesAndtherewasnobreadinalltheland;forthefaminewasverysore,so thatthelandofEgyptandallthelandofCanaanfaintedbyreasonofthefamine.AndJoseph gatheredupallthemoneythatwasfoundinthelandofEgypt,andinthelandofCanaan,forthe cornwhichtheybought:andJosephbroughtthemoneyintoPharaoh'shouseAndwhenmoney failedinthelandofEgypt,andinthelandofCanaan,alltheEgyptianscameuntoJoseph,andsaid, Giveusbread:forwhyshouldwedieinthypresence?forthemoneyfailethAndJosephsaid,Give yourcattle;andIwillgiveyouforyourcattle,ifmoneyfail.Andtheybroughttheircattleunto Joseph:andJosephgavethembreadinexchangeforhorses,andfortheflocks,andforthecattleof theherds,andfortheasses:andhefedthemwithbreadforalltheircattleforthatyearWhenthat yearwasended,theycameuntohimthesecondyear,andsaiduntohim,Wewillnothideitfrommy lord,howthatourmoneyisspent;mylordalsohathourherdsofcattle;thereisnotoughtleftinthe sightofmylord,butourbodies,andourlands:Whereforeshallwediebeforethineeyes,bothwe andourland?buyusandourlandforbread,andweandourlandwillbeservantsuntoPharaoh:and giveusseed,thatwemaylive,andnotdie,thatthelandbenotdesolateAndJosephboughtallthe landofEgyptforPharaoh;fortheEgyptianssoldeverymanhisfield,becausethefamineprevailed overthem:sothelandbecamePharaoh'sAndasforthepeople,heremovedthemtocitiesfromone endofthebordersofEgypteventotheotherendthereof.Onlythelandofthepriestsboughthenot; forthepriestshadaportionassignedthemofPharaoh,anddideattheirportionwhichPharaohgave them:whereforetheysoldnottheirlandsThenJosephsaiduntothepeople,Behold,Ihavebought youthisdayandyourlandforPharaoh:lo,hereisseedforyou,andyeshallsowtheland.Andit shallcometopassintheincrease,thatyeshallgivethefifthpartuntoPharaoh,andfourpartsshall beyourown,forseedofthefield,andforyourfood,andforthemofyourhouseholds,andforfood foryourlittleones.Andtheysaid,Thouhastsavedourlives:letusfindgraceinthesightofmylord, andwewillbePharaoh'sservantsAndJosephmadeitalawoverthelandofEgyptuntothisday, thatPharaohshouldhavethefifthpart;exceptthelandofthepriestsonly,whichbecamenot Pharaoh's.Genesis47:12-26
