I was apprenticed to a blacksmith in 1973 and have worked with metals since. I have recently built a workshop in Goompi on Minjerribah using reclaimed materials from 19th century buildings and have populated it with 19th century tools and equipment that I have carefully and meticulously restored to their 19th century functionality. I handforge items of jewellery and hardware from iron and steel using the 19th century methods and techniques learnt over my 50 working years. I also have trained dozens of apprentices and offer short training sessions where a person, who has probably never made anything with their own bare hands, are taught and guided to hand-make a handforged black-smithed item using the traditional ways.
