Final Thesis
“Korail: The Next Generation Slum” is the Thesis carried out in the last year of my architecture career. This project proposes the regeneration of a settlement washed by one of its sides by a tributary of the Ganges river. This precarious settlement has the lake’s difficulty for its growth, with the continual threat of atmospheric problems and the precariousness of its homes. That is why, it is proposed to topographic survey with different elements for cultivation and self-supply. This consists of the creation of artificial wetlands for water filtration, different rice and maize crops in the area and phytodepuration ponds responsible for cleaning the graywater of the stilt houses and then using it to irrigate the crops. A whole system of self-sufficiency that follows the customs of the inhabitants. In addition, one proposes the construction of hexagonal bamboo stilt houses that facilitate growth and adaptability along the lake, so that they can grow in a sustainable and safe way.

It is a project carried out by two colleagues and I, which we named WUPPY, Wild Urban Plants Project, the choice of this name is due to the search for the relationship between the urban environment, which includes people, plants and the technology. This project aims to connect all elements in a single device capable of integrating in the city, overcoming the obstacles that are presented to this artifact. This idea came from a need, plants are living beings, but they do not have a fundamental characteristic for survival in rigid spaces. That is why, through technology, a series of mechanisms has been provided to improve the living experience in this medium. The objective is to adapt the living being to the cities of today, a coexistence with the new technological society and an integration in the public space.

The project is located in a little town called Texcoco, near to Mexico City. It’s part of a new social concept that is developing in Mexico in order to give families the oportunity to have a dignified home mixing the budget and needs and to be able to plan the growth of the house. It is a flexible house because it was design to fill the principal needs of the user but also taking under consideration the future of them and how can it expands in the future, it could be understood as it will grow according the needs and along with the family. The desaign of the project was mainly based on the materials available in the zone and considering the budget that the family can affort.

The idea of this project arises after the requirement of a character (client), who needs a shelter to carry out his work in one of the most famous deserts. The project is proposed as a revitalizing system of this way of life through dialogue with the environment, through an integrating architectural organism (atmospheric architecture). Understanding architecture not only by its tangible form but also by its generating capacity and synergy from what gives us a climate.

The objective of this project is to carry out a residence for university students in the city of Turin, near the emblematic building “Mole Antonelliana”. The program is flexible and it only has to fulfill the mandatory norm: “Minimum quality standards and guidelines on technical parameters ed. economic “, in Italy. As for them, I propose a residence which satisfies these needs. In addition to two photomontages of single-family homes also in this location as an alternative to the proposal of the student residence.
