New releases from CIHEAM Proceedings of the 11th meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries of the CIHEAM's member countries, Tirana, 22 September 2016
addressed recommendations to Mediterranean countries that operate in the Mediterranean and to the CIHEAM. The efforts deployed over the past years by our Organisation were recognized and the will to strengthen its capacities and therefore sustainably support its action was expressed by the participants. These constructive meetings between the Ministers of the 13 member States of the CIHEAM have started in Rome in 1999 and continued in Rabat in 2000, in Athens in 2001, in Beirut in 2002, in Paris in 2004, in Cairo 2006, in Zaragoza in 2008, in Istanbul in 2010, in Valetta in 2012 and in Algiers in 2014. The meeting of Tirana was therefore the 11th multilateral encounter of this kind, that is, a strong illustration of the will of these Mediterranean countries to place the themes of agriculture, food and rural development and distress migrations at the heart of their cooperation in the Mediterranean. The next meeting is already scheduled in Tunis in 2017/2018 at the invitation of the Tunisian authorities. Through the organization of these ministerial meetings, the CIHEAM wishes to promote agricultural and rural diplomacy in a region where the challenges require concerted and possibly collective responses.
Abstract: The Meeting of Tirana has particularly addressed the theme of distress migrations (internal and international) from the perspective of agricultural development, food security, land policies, the development and inclusion of rural territories and climate change. The CIHEAM presented the Strategic Agenda 2025 (CSA 2025) that will structure, over the coming years, the cooperation mission of the CIHEAM in the Mediterranean around 4 major pillars and 15 thematic priorities. In the final declaration adopted at the end of this meeting, ministers and representatives of international and regional Organisations
