Un grande regalo ma che sia di pubblica utilità.

Preservare il sapere è un atto consolidato, ma rendere accessibili i contenuti di una biblioteca o di un archivio storico è oggi una priorità strategica per la disseminazione della cultura ed il superamento del digital divide.

Lungi dal limitare la propria azione alla pur importantissima funzione conservativa del patrimonio posseduto, la biblioteca dell'Istituto Agronomico Mediterraneo di Bari nel corso di questi ultimi mesi, si è fatta promotrice di alcune importanti donazioni di libri a favore di biblioteche pubbliche e istituzioni scientifiche internazionali. Tra le più significative ricordiamo, la Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Roma, la biblioteca di Bioversity International - Roma, la David Lubin Memorial Library - FAO Roma e la Biblioteca Comunale Vito Bavaro di Sannicandro di Bari.

I libri donati, appartenenti alle quattro aree tematiche di ricerca del IAMB, sono stati prontamente raccolti e catalogati dai colleghi delle diverse biblioteche e resi disponibili alla comunità scientifica.

Sicuramente un'opportunità di ampliamento di prospettive e approfondimento tematico per i fruitori delle biblioteche “soggetti” della donazione.

Revised Toolkit - New Talking Points IFLA has updated our Toolkit on libraries and the

United Nations (UN) post-2015 Development Agenda. The updates give a better idea of the post2015 timeline and the major events coming up. It will also help you to further structure your meetings with Member State Representatives in your country. In order to enable you to really stress IFLA's core messages on access to information, ICTs, and culture for development, we have created a set of talking points. These talking points will give you a good overview of IFLA's international message and will enable you to bring this into your national context to make it more relevant for your Member State meetings.

IFLA Headquarters is looking forward to hear about your meetings with Member State Representatives and we strongly encourage you to contact us if you need further help.

The Lyon Declaration in 2015 IFLA is very happy to announce that with the start of 2015, the Lyon Declaration has received support from over 500 library, ICT and development, institutions and organisations. This worldwide and cross-sector uptake underlines the importance of the Lyon Declaration and furthermore the importance of access to information for future development.

What's next?

During the next nine months leading up to the UN Special Summit on Sustainable Development in September 2015, IFLA will concentrate its efforts to ensure that access to information remains within the new development framework. We will also work on indicators with our coalition partners. These indicators will enable UN Member States and the UN to measure the impact of access to information on development over the next 15 years. The IFLA Statistics and Evaluation Section is closely working with IFLA and its partners on formulating the indicators.

In order to achieve this, IFLA will participate in a range of high level meetings leading up to the Special Summit on Sustainable Development (September 2015) and will work closely with other stakeholders, national ministries and UN Member States.

Background The Lyon Declaration on Access to Information and Development calls upon United Nations Member States to make an international commitment through the post-2015 UN development agenda. The Declaration proposes to ensure that everyone has access to, and is able to understand, use and share the information that is necessary to promote sustainable development and democratic societies. by IFLA and a number of strategic partners in the library and development communities.

Call for Papers: 14th Interlending and Document Supply Conference, October 2015 The IFLA Document Delivery and Resource Sharing Section Standing Committee invites papers for the 14th Interlending & Document Supply Conference, to be held 1-3 October 2015 in Istanbul hosted by the Anatolian University Libraries Consortium (ANKOS).

The Conference will be held at T.R. Prime Ministry Directorate General of State Archives, Directorate of Ottoman Archive.

E C C O C O M E D I V E N TA R E “MESSAGGERI” DELL A LETTURA Ma in cosa consiste l'iniziativa? Gli editori (sia i grandi gruppi sia le piccole case editrici appartenenti all'Aie) hanno individuato 23 romanzi e un “libro chiave” di Daniel Pennac. Piccoli tesori pensati e scelti proprio per chi ancora non legge. Un doppio dono speciale ai non lettori, perché porta con sé anche la rinuncia dei diritti d'autore da parte dei 24 autori. “In questa prima edizione proponiamo romanzi, con l'idea di estendere nelle successive ad altri generi: per cominciare ci pare più semplice ed efficace”, spiegano gli organizzatori. E aggiungono: “Soprattutto, abbiamo deciso di affidare 240mila libri a migliaia di lettori appassionati, che chiameremo Messaggeri: a loro volta, affideranno ad altrettanti lettori 'assopiti', in tutta Italia, questi strumenti di piacere e di divertimento, i libri.

Saranno Messaggeri 'Pronti a tutto', proprio come recita la nostra campagna di comunicazione.

Messaggeri pronti ad affidare a parenti, amici, colleghi e sconosciuti una copia speciale di un romanzo bellissimo”.

Non solo: “Per la prima volta avverrà in modo capillare, a scuola e all'università, al lavoro, nelle librerie e nelle biblioteche fino alla piazze. A unire questi snodi, sarà il treno che, grazie a un accordo con Trenitalia, idealmente permetterà ai Messaggeri di arrivare davvero ovunque. A questa rete fisica si affianca una piattaforma digitale, www.ioleggoperché.it, in cui i Messaggeri possono iscriversi, in cui tutti possono aderire, giocare con le citazioni e con i social, diventare una community”.

Continua l'Aie: “Abbiamo coinvolto dei testimonial pronti a chiamare in questa avventura i lettori. Arturo Brachetti, Paolo Calabresi, Lella Costa, Carlo Cracco, Marco D'Amore, Linus, Neri Marcorè, Marco Presta, Saturnino, Mario Tozzi, Dario Vergassola saranno solo alcuni dei nostri alleati”.

Verrà coinvolta anche la tv: “Grazie a Rai3, il 23 aprile offriremo un grande spettacolo, dinamico, che ruota attorno al libro e alla lettura: una diretta tv, in prima serata”. La tv di Stato “sarà al nostro fianco per costruire uno spettacolo originale, sui generis, in cui mettere in scena il piacere del libro e della lettura”.

Grazie a intese con il Centro per il libro e la lettura del Ministero dei Beni e delle Attività culturali e del Turismo, grazie a librerie, biblioteche di tutta Italia, “coinvolgeremo, oltre ai Messaggeri, migliaia di giovani delle scuole. Grazie alla Conferenza dei Rettori delle Università italiane, gli Atenei potranno, se ritengono, riconoscere dei crediti formativi aiMessaggeri della lettura”. E ancora: “Grazie a tutto questo e a iniziative originali, diffuse su tutto il territorio nazionale, come Crossa un libro e Piazza un libro sensibilizzeremo i “non lettori” ad

avvicinarsi al libro e alla lettura”.

IL MONDO DI #IOLEGGOPERCHE’ #ioleggoperché “nasce da una rete di rapporti, di confronti, di obiettivi comuni che hanno interessato fin dall'inizio non solo librerie, biblioteche e superfici libri della grande distribuzione, ma anche scuole e

università. E' questo il mondo nel quale ruota il progetto”.

Le librerie Sono oltre 1100 le librerie coinvolte, tra indipendenti, catene e librerie online. “La libreria è una protagonista assoluta di #ioleggoperché: è snodo fondamentale per il reclutamento dei Messaggeri, è centro di raccordo per la distribuzione delle 240mila copie della collana in edizione speciale. E' motore del palinsesto dell'iniziativa: il 23 aprile la libreria potrà aderire alla Notte bianca delle librerie con un'apertura straordinaria fino alle 24. Sarà anche sede di letture collettive a tema (“vieni a leggere il libro della tua vita/uno dei 24 titoli di #ioleggoperché per 5 minuti in libreria”). Parteciperà inoltre attivamente nelle città di Piazza un libro e nel coinvolgimento di scuole e biblioteche”.

Le biblioteche Sono oltre 1000 le biblioteche di pubblica lettura e scolastiche coinvolte. “In una logica di valorizzazione complessiva della lettura e dei luoghi in cui leggere, la biblioteca partecipa all'iniziativa per comunicare #ioleggoperché e per reclutare i Messaggeri, attivando i gruppi di lettura, le associazioni e tutti gli appassionati del proprio circuito, e organizzando incontri di formazione con i Messaggeri stessi”.

Le superfici libri della grande distribuzione Al progetto partecipano tutti i principali operatori nel settore della grande distribuzione organizzata, con un sostegno in termini di comunicazione dell'iniziativa nei punti vendita e per il reclutamento dei Messaggeri.

Le università Sono luogo principe del reclutamento dei Messaggeri. “È significativo il patrocinio della Conferenza dei Rettori (CRUI) e l'impegno di comunicazione – su cui si sono ottenuti già molti riscontri – dei singoli atenei italiani per favorire l'adesione degli studenti. A tal fine, si sta collaborando anche con AICUN, la rete dei comunicatori delle Università.

LE PIAZZE DELL'INIZIATIVA Piazza un libro è il nome degli eventi legati al libro e ai lettori che interesseranno alcune piazze d'Italia il 23 aprile 2015 con una mobilitazione generale del territorio. Un modo per comunicare, vivere, promuovere il libro e la lettura, sostenuta anche dal patrocinio di ANCI. Oltre a Milano con il grande spettacolo ripreso in diretta da RAI3, altre città saranno infatti sede di eventi di piazza firmati dall'iniziativa:Torino, Vicenza, Roma, Cosenza fino a Sassari. In una logica simile a quella delle “cene in bianco” – l'appuntamento collettivo in cui il pubblico partecipa attivamente all'organizzazione seguendo “regole” prestabilite – #ioleggoperché propone ad alcune città italiane di realizzare vere e proprie lounge di piazza dedicate alla lettura: spazi aperti, per i lettori e non lettori, dove poter leggere, consultare, incontrarsi, condividere la propria passione. Piazza un libro vedrà impegnati nell'animazione di questi spazi enti locali, librerie e biblioteche della città, associazioni, scuole, università e scuole di teatro e in generale tutti gli appassionati di lettura. Tra i protagonisti, i titoli della speciale collana edita da #ioleggoperché: brani scelti dei 24 titoli verranno interpretati e raccontati da super-messaggeri, giovani attori e allievi delle scuole di teatro o delle associazioni cittadine, ai partecipanti all'evento e al pubblico di passaggio. Un momento di relazione e di condivisione, guidato dal libro. Per stimolare la partecipazione e il

coinvolgimento, le piazze proporranno anche un angolo di lettura, simbolo e strumento della viralità di #ioleggoperché: uno spazio in cui tutti potranno essere protagonisti leggendo la propria citazione o brano preferito, che sarà animato anche dagli autori e testimonial di #ioleggoperché. Le piazze disporranno di un maxi totem delle citazioni su cui tutto il pubblico potrà esporre la propria frase letteraria “del cuore”.

IFLA Trend Report e biblioteche accademiche Quali sfide nella società dell'informazione diffusa?

maria.cassella@unito.it A ottobre la Sezione Lombardia dell'AIB ha organizzatoun seminario dedicato a IFLA e all'analisi del suo Trend report. L'articolo riprende e sviluppa i temi affrontati dachi scrive in quella occasione. Pubblicato nel 2013 dopo una gestazione di dodici mesi che ha visto il coinvolgimento di esperti e stakeholders di differenti discipline (economisti, esperti di diritto di scienze sociali, tecnologi),1 il Trend report di IFLA indica le cinque principali tendenze che stanno trasformando su scala globale la società dell'informazione:2 accesso all'informazione, istruzione, privacy, impegno civile e innovazione tecnologica. lettura la propria scuola superiore d'origine, prendendo contatto con i suoi ex-professori, raccontando agli studenti il progetto, invitandoli a diventare a loro volta messaggeri.

Attraverso la piattaforma www.ioleggoperché.it sarà lanciata un'attività di video contest dedicata espressamente agli studenti degli atenei italiani. Le Università potranno inoltre organizzare iniziative in occasione del 23 aprile targate #ioleggoperché, che saranno inserite sulla piattaforma. A Cosenza, l'università è anche il partner principale per Piazza un libro”.

Le scuole Crossa un libro è il nome del format per coinvolgere gli studenti delle scuole italiane, di ogni livello.

“Protagonisti saranno gli studenti, gli insegnanti di qualsiasi materia, i librai del territorio. Il 23 aprile, nell'ultima ora di lezione, i ragazzi potranno organizzare liberamente un'attività di bookcrossing di classe, oltre a giochi e attività di lettura.

La chiave di Crossa un libro? La citazione. Sarà veicolata attraverso i “foglietti Post-it” per diventare consiglio (Io leggo questo libro perché…), per essere inserita nel libro oggetto di bookcrossing, postata sulla piattaforma e sui social, consegnata nelle librerie aderenti per essere esposta il 23 aprile sui totem #ioleggoperché o applicata sul totem/installazione nelle piazze di Piazza un libro. Il foglietto Post-it permetterà di far circolare la comunicazione in modo virale, partendo dalle scuole e dalle librerie”.

Cala il mercato del libro (ma non la spesa degli italiani per la lettura)

L'Aie: tra 2010 e 2014 si sono persi 2,6 milioni di lettori però il Paese continua a investire in ebook, e-reader e collaterali. In (lenta) crescita i dispositivi digitali La spesa degli italiani per la lettura resta sostanzialmente stabile. È uno dei dati che e m e r g e dall'indagine dell'Ufficio s t u d i dell'Associazion e Italiana Editori (AIE) sul mercato del libro 2014, che sarà presentato il 27 gennaio nella giornata inaugurale del XXXII Seminario di Perfezionamento della Scuola per Librai Umberto ed Elisabetta Mauri, in programma fino al 30 gennaio a Venezia. Il 2014 è stato un anno di trasformazione, perché se è vero che diversi indicatori risultano negativi, c'è da precisare che, sommati, dimostrano come l'andamento della spesa degli italiani in libri, ebook, e-reader e collaterali – in ciò che serve a leggere – registri un +0,1%.

Quanto hanno speso dunque gli italiani nel 2014 per leggere?

Quasi 1,5miliardi di euro (per la precisione 1,452 miliardi): 51,7milioni di euro è la stima del mercato 2014 degli ebook venduti, 1,2 il mercato dei libri di carta secondo Nielsen (librerie, librerie online, grande distribuzione), 111 milioni di euro quanto pagato dagli italiani per gli e-reader (stima provvisoria su dati Assinform, senza considerare i tablet), 54,3milioni di euro la spesa per i collaterali. La somma dei fattori si traduce in un dato sorprendente: «La sfida - sottolinea Giovanni Peresson, responsabile Ufficio studi AIE – di fare in modo nuovo il mestiere del libraio o dell'editore, innovando tutti quegli elementi che ci obbligano a guardare in modo diverso i comportamenti del lettore e cliente. Alcuni dati, presi singolarmente, possono risultare negativi ma aggregati all'interno del “sistema lettura” ci possono raccontare una storia diversa. La storia di una trasformazione».

Cresce la lettura degli ebook Secondo i dati Istat si passa dal 43% di italiani con più di 6 anni che leggono almeno 1 libro all'anno del 2013 al 41,4% del 2014. I forti lettori restano sostanzialmente stabili (-0,02%), crollano i lettori occasionali. Tra 2010 e 2014 si sono persi 2,6milioni di lettori (il 10%). Parallelamente nel 2014 cresce, secondo Istat, del 32,2% la lettura di ebook: quasi

7milioni di italiani (il 13,1% della popolazione) hanno letto un ebook nell'anno passato. E diminuisce la produzione di libri di carta. Gli editori hanno prodotto nel 2014 63.417 titoli, il 5,1% in meno rispetto al 2012 e con un prezzo di copertina alla produzione in media di 18,14 euro (il -7,2% rispetto al 2012). Cresce la produzione di e-book: nel 2014, 53.739 titoli in digitale (esclusi i gratuiti) nei vari formati (epub, pdf, mobipoket), l'88,4% in più rispetto al 2012 e con un prezzo di copertina alla produzione in media di 6,96 euro (-22,8% sul 2012).

Il peso delle librerie tradizionali Infine, il 2014 si è chiuso per i libri di carta con il segno meno nei canali trade, secondo i dati Nielsen: -3,8% il giro d'affari, -6,5% le copie vendute, in ripresa rispetto ai primi mesi dell'anno e anche rispetto agli anni precedenti. Il libro di carta si compra prima di tutto nelle librerie di catena (pesano per il 40,6%, anche se in leggero calo rispetto al 2013), un po' meno nelle librerie indipendenti (al 30,7%), sempre più nelle librerie online, che oggi pesano il 13,8% (+ 8% rispetto al 2013). Diminuisce la grande distribuzione.

Parallelamente il mercato degli ebook si stima al 4,4% del mercato del libro, con un fatturato di 51,7milioni (+39,4% sul 2013).

Biblioteche, censura e bambini. Un nuovo caso In Provincia di Nuoro un gruppo di genitori e un sacerdote hanno censurato l'utilizzo di alcuni libri per bambini in attività di promozione della lettura.

L'AIB e il programma Nati per Leggere denunciano la gravità di quanto accaduto e difendono con fermezza sia i diritti dei bambini, sia le scelte professionali dei colleghi bibliotecari.

La selezione dei libri per l'infanzia, come quella del programma Nati per Leggere, attivo in Italia da 15 anni, e quella del Progetto In Vitro, sono state realizzate da esperti di letteratura per l'infanzia, che hanno utilizzato il loro bagaglio professionale con particolare attenzione alle caratteristiche di bambini e ragazzi. I bibliotecari associati AIB, sia che operino all'interno di gruppi di lavoro per la selezione di libri, sia nel quotidiano esercizio della loro professione, sono tenuti a rispettare i principi contenuti nel Manifesto IFLA/Unesco per le biblioteche pubbliche e in quello per le biblioteche scolastiche, oltre al Codice deontologico dei bibliotecari . Dai Manifesti sopra citati, tutti i bibliotecari sanno che «i materiali devono riflettere gli orientamenti attuali e l'evoluzione della società (…) [senza] alcuna forma di censura ideologica, politica o religiosa».

Catalogo Unico delle Biblioteche Italiane e delle Informazioni Bibliografiche (Iccu) del Ministero dei Beni e delle Attività Culturali e del Turismo, sono visibili nelle mappe TomTom Places e TomTom Routes, disponibili anche in versione mobile per gli utenti di Android e Apple.

L'Anagrafe delle biblioteche italiane nasce dal progetto di censimento avviato nei primi anni Novanta, al quale hanno contribuito, sotto il coordinamento tecnico-scientifico dell'Iccu, Regioni, università, enti ecclesiastici e molte istituzioni culturali, con l'obiettivo di creare uno strumento d'informazione generale, unitario e aggiornato sulla realtà bibliotecaria. La base dati dell'Abi è integrata nel Servizio Bibliotecario Nazionale e fornisce al pubblico in rete informazioni costantemente aggiornate sui dati anagrafici, sul patrimonio e sui servizi del complesso delle biblioteche italiane. Per favorire il riuso dei dati, dal luglio del 2014 sono disponibili gli Open Data con licenza Creative Commons CC0 Universal Public Domain Dedication, in formato CSV o XML: l'integrazione dei dati delle biblioteche nelle mappe TomTom rappresenta il primo importante riuso degli Open Data dell'Abi. Tom Tom Places è un servizio di ricerca locale mediante il quale si possono individuare destinazioni di interesse: negozi, aziende e molto altro, come le biblioteche appunto. TomTom Route Planner calcola i percorsi stradali sulla base di mappe aggiornate e informazioni sul traffico in tempo reale.

TomTom, leader mondiale nei prodotti di navigazione satellitare e mappe, ha appena lanciato in Italia TomTom GO Mobile App, la nuova applicazione per gli utenti degli smartphone Android che include gratuitamente il servizio TomTom Traffic. L'app combina la più recente tecnologia di navigazione per auto, presentando la stessa interfaccia del dispositivo TomTom GO, con le informazioni sul traffico.

Contemporaneamente è stato rilasciato anche un nuovo aggiornamento dell'app di navigazione per iPhone e iPad, una versione progettata per sfruttare al meglio lo schermo più grande degli ultimi modelli degli smartphone Apple.

Fanano e a Genova, rivela come in alcune parti della società, purtroppo, non si conosce l'importanza della lettura ed il ruolo della letteratura per l'infanzia, mentre i bambini hanno diritto a crescere anche tramite la lettura condivisa nelle famiglie, nelle biblioteche e nelle scuole.

Siamo fermamente a fianco di tutti coloro, bibliotecari, operatori educativi e sanitari, volontari che si impegnano, molto spesso gratuitamente, in un'opera di grande valore sociale. Attaccare la professionalità dei bibliotecari, la funzione primaria delle biblioteche, dei libri e delle attività di promozione della lettura è inaccettabile.

Increasing global population and improvements in the standard of living mean that there is a rapidly increasing demand for animal protein with intensified animal production. The international movement of animals and animal products has been made cheaper and faster through improved transport infrastructure. Increasing human and livestock population has placed pressure on wildlife habitats, resulting in closer contact between wildlife, domestic animal populations and humans with spreading and re-emergence of diseases as consequences of these risk factors.

Managing these disease threats poses enormous challenges and requires good quality information: what diseases exist; where they are found; what impact they are having; which populations are at risk; how we can prevent, control or eradicate these diseases. Animal disease surveillance plays a central role in providing this information. Risk-based surveillance is not a particular technique; rather, it describes a general approach to undertaking disease surveillance.

The principle is simple and self-evident: the most efficient way to find disease is to survey the animal populations that are most likely to be affected. This is in contrast to the more traditional statistically-based approach of taking representative samples from a population. While the idea of risk-based surveillance is simple, the implications are complex. The approach can be much more cost-effective for some purposes, but if misused, it can lead to serious errors or it can be more expensive than traditional approaches.

The countries of the Southeastern European (SEE) region pronounced their intention to move towards integration with the European Union (EU) in order to create a stable, united, and more prosperous region. The EU integration process should foster political stability and socioeconomic and sustainable development in the region. The SEE candidate and potential candidate countries, see the integration an oppartunity to enhance a peaceful development through economic, political and cultural co-operation within the region itself and with the EU member states. However, the EU integration process is a highly complex procedure, which involves the creation cf new institutions and the implementation of a range of policy reforms. Given the importance of the agricultural sector in the SEE countries in the economic development at national and regional level, it is essential that the reform process contribute to increasing ccmpetitiveness, enhancing regional trade and boosting the rehabilitation of focd chains. To successfully accomplish the reform process and ensure a smooth integration, it is important to develop solid networks and mechanisms for dialogue among policy makers and the research community across crucial policy areas. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) decided, in close cooperation with the Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG), to implement the project “Streamlining cf agriculture and rural development policées of SEE countries for EU accession” to facilitate the establishment of such networks and mechanisms. The purpose of the project is to strengthen cooperation among policy makers and the research community in order to create an effective policy making environment and to assist the integration process. This book constitutes one of the main results of the project; it is devoted to the analysis of agricultural and rural development policy of the SEE countries in view of their chosen future EU accession. It is a unique work in the region, which has been elabcrated in clcse cooperaticn between policy makers and the research institutions in the SEE countries. t s anticipated that it wilI prcvide a valuable input for policymaking as weIl as a sclid basis for future cooperation and continued dynamic dialogue between policymakers and the research institutions. The National Aquaculture Development Strategy and Action Plan of Bangladesh 2013-2020 constitutes 16 outputs under four objectives. These are geared to pursuing the mission of the aquaculture sector that its stakeholders have charged it with: “To improve the welfare of the resource-poor people depending on the aquatic resources for livelihood, reduce poverty by stimulating employment and improving income, conserve if not enhance the natural resources on which livelihoods are based, promote the sustainable development of rural communities, increase export earnings, and contribute to the creation of wealth for the nation and improvement in the welfare of the people.” The formulation of the Strategy and Action Plan has been informed by the National Fisheries Policy of 1998, the Country Investment Plan 2011–2015, the National Fisheries and Livestock Sector Development Plan, the FAO TCPF project “Identification and understanding of key technical, economic and social constraints to seed and feed production and management in Bangladesh”, and the preceding national fisheries strategy and action plan of 2006–2012. It thus updates the aquaculture substrategy and plan of action contained in this document. The Strategy and Action Plan was formulated, based on a working paper prepared by the Aquaculture Branch of FAO, at a stakeholders' consultation workshop held in 10 December 2012, then reviewed extensively for technical content and issues by experts at the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture of FAO, and finally reviewed for the strategic and policy issues by the National Working Committee for the Sustainable Development of Aquaculture Industry during its first meeting on 4 September 2013.

The Committee endorsed the Strategy and Action Plan at the same meeting. The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Government of Bangladesh approved the document in November 2013.

L'OMS et la FAO ont tenu leur premier atelier conjoint – Fruits et légumes pour la santé – au Centre OMS pour le développement sanitaire, à Kobe (Japon), du 1er au 3 septembre 2004. Y ont participé des spécialistes de la nutrition, de la santé et de l'agriculture, des représentants des ministères de la santé et de l'agriculture, des conseillers en matière de nutrition venus des bureaux régionaux de l'OMS, des experts du Programme alimentaire mondial, la Commission économique des Nations Unies pour l'Europe, le Secrétariat général de la Communauté du Pacifique, l'Institut international de Recherches sur les Politiques alimentaires et la communauté mondiale prônant la consommation de 5 fruits et legume par jour pour la santé (voir à l'annexe 1 la liste des participants et à l'annexe 2 le programme de l'atelier). L'objectif global de l'atelier était d'élaborer un projet de cadre général pour la mise au point d'interventions rentables et efficaces, afin de promouvoir une consommation suffisante de fruits et légumes dans les États Membres. Les résultats attendus de cet atelier étaient donc une série de documents de référence, préparés par des experts. Les participants devaient également élaborer et approuver un projet de cadre général visant à orienter des interventions efficaces au niveau national pour la promotion des fruits et des légumes, en tenant compte de toute la chaîne depuis la production jusqu'à la consommation (c'est-à-dire la production, le commerce, la manutention après récolte, le conditionnement, la distribution, la commercialisation, les achats, la préparation et la consommation de fruits et légumes). Les présentations des documents de référence et des études de cas pour certains pays sont résumées dans la section 3 du présent rapport. Les points et arguments soulevés par les participants lors des discussions sont repris dans les encadrés de la section 3. Bien qu'ils n'expriment pas nécessairement l'opinion de l'OMS, de la FAO, ou des participants à l'atelier dans son ensemble, ils ont été inclus pour rendre compte des débats et différents points de vue pendant l'atelier. La section 4 récapitule les conclusions de l'atelier et la section 5 donne le projet de cadre général.

Climate change poses new challenges to the management of the world's genetic resources for food and agriculture, but it also underlines their importance. At the request of the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, FAO prepared thematic studies on the interactions between climate change and plant, animal, forest, aquatic, invertebrate and micro-organism genetic resources. This publication summarizes the results of these studies.

Organic is a movement for change for food from the heart of the land, from nature, feeding our bodies and souls, shared by all. Our legacy is to shape a friendly and compassionate food and farming system, where human fulfilment is derived from the natural capacity of the planet and the culture of our food and farming communities. We strive to understand the natural cycle of life, of the need for localised, seasonal, recycling food systems sustained by renewable ecosystem resources, human in scale, rich in cultural tradition and diversity. Since the beginnings of our movement there have been many successes and thankfully organic has grown. However, as a consequence of organic becoming mainstream, we are facing new challenges both regarding principles and market development. IFOAM EU, part of the global IFOAM family reaching around the world, is preparing for the next two decades. We are working from secure foundations, setting priorities for development towards a shared organic vision for Europe in 2030. Our task is to create a framework that will enable us to reach the goals of organic farmers and businesses through defending and building on organic principles. We want to show that good organic farmers and producers, working with the complexity of a whole organic system, can deliver accessible good food to communities' tables for the benefit of people and planet.

Abstract The application of organic fertilizer combined with or without chemical fertilizer to soil is considered as a good management practices in any agricultural production system because it improves plant quality and soil fertility. The objective of the present study is to evaluate the effect of compost on cucumber (Cucumis sativum L.) productivity and soil properties. A greenhouse experiment was carried out in Tulkarm, Palestine, during the summer season of 2012. The results showed that the application of compost improving the soil characteristics; increasing soil productivity and organic matter content. Compost application can compensate use of chemical fertilizers, which have adverse environmental effects. The experimental results confirmed that the use of organic fertilizers increasing the crop productivity with compost (7005 kg / dunum, dunum is 0.1 ha) comparing with (6017 kg / dunum) with chemical fertilizers, on the other hand, increasing the soil fertility and saving water, were the water requirements was decreasing with using compost (180 m3 / season) comparing with (213 m3 / season) were chemical fertilizers used during the agriculture period.

The effect soil types and depth on strawberry yield in a greenhouse as well as its association with water management are still not well known. The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of different soil depth and water requirements on strawberry plant yield and quality in a greenhouse. The experiment was carried in a greenhouse at Thennaba farm, Tulkarm, located in the West Bank, Palestine during the autumn and spring seasons of 2012/2013. The experimental design was a completely randomized design included two groups (Set A & Set B) in the green house half dunum (10 dunum = 1ha) for each Set, contains 20 rows and 3000 plants with two different soil depths 15 and 7 cm for A and B, respectively. The results showed that the strawberry plant productivity was higher in set (B) with 7 cm soil depth: was 2115 kg in comparing with set (A) 15 cm soil depth: was 1645 kg for the agricultural season. The water requirements was higher in set (A) (314 m3/ agricultural season) in comparison with Set (B) (193 m3/ agricultural season) during the nine months of agriculture period. It means that the soil depth gives directly effects on water requirements.
