Inspiration from Tsawwassen’s natural beauty and community spirit Winskill Aquatic and Recreation Centre in Tsawwassen, Canada The Winskill Aquatic Centre project will deliver a cutting-edge community centre and expanded field sports amenities, catering to diverse recreational needs while prioritising accessibility and functionality. The development process has been highly collaborative, involving the City of Delta, Unitech Construction Managers, and DIALOG/Carscadden Architects, and guided by a project charter that balances programme, cost, and design objectives. The new 102,000 square foot (9,475 m²) Aquatic Centre will serve as a vibrant hub for recreation, wellness, and gathering. Architecturally, the centre draws inspiration from Tsawwassen’s natural beauty and community spirit, with design elements reflecting local ecosystems and the region’s role as a hub for migratory birds. The facility will feature a gymnasium for indoor sports and events, along with modernised swimming amenities, including a 25-m pool with eight to ten lanes, a leisure pool, a wellness area, water slide, and teaching pool. The wellness area will offer an accessible hot tub/cold water plunge, sauna, and steam room, while both universal and genderspecific change rooms ensure inclusivity. Interior spaces are organised to foster connection and movement, with open, light-filled corridors guiding visitors through the centre. Supporting spaces include fitness and gym areas, multipurpose rooms, and dedicated Boys and Girls Club facilities. 16
