“Hello I-I ! I am Drew Reetz, your 2022-2023 International Trustee! I am beyond excited to be working with all of you. As a Trustee, I act as the liaison between the District and International level. This year, I’ll serve three Districts: TexasOklahoma, Kansas, and YOU! This is what we like to call a SISTRICT (sister districts).
I am currently a senior from South Dakota. I love Star Wars, traveling, and of course my Dog, Oakley, and cat, Darth Meow. Besides Key Club, I am involved in track and cross country, and a few other extracurriculars.
If you need anything, please feel free to contact me at drew.reetz@keyclub.org! I look forward to working with you I-I !”
On Freshman Orientation Night, members of Key Club explained to the Class of 2026 about the club and its mission to serve others within the Batavia Community and beyond. Incoming freshmen learned about Key Club and the different ways we serve our home, school, and community. Having past trophies and scrapbooks available for students to see intrigues them and makes them want to learn more. We provided lists of volunteer opportunities, leadership roles, and fundraising projects that we conduct throughout the school and community.
As well, potential members learn about the K Family and where Key Club fits in. The Key Club Organization commends these students for representing Key Club very well during the Freshman Orientation Night.

Now is the time for Key Clubs to conduct fundraising to support the Illinois-Eastern Iowa District Kiwanis Neuroscience Research Foundation (KNRF). Traditionally, this has been a Bowl-A-Thon, and if that works for your clubs and divisions, please continue! However, other alternatives to raise funds for the I-I District KNRF Foundation are: Have a Trivia event
Hold a Wii Bowling tournament or Golf outing on Wii games
Work with your sponsoring Kiwanis Club to hold a pancake breakfast.
The possibilities are endless - be creative! Come up with ideas on how to raise money for the I I District Kiwanis Neuroscience Research Foundation. No matter what method you choose, consider challenging your Kiwanis club to join in the competition and see who can raise the most…it’s a WIN-WIN in that it collaborates with your Kiwanis family and raises funds for I-I District KRNF!
Put your thinking cap on and find a way for your club to make your fundraiser more attractive to participants. Whether inperson or virtual, we can still have fun where everyone has a great time and can participate.
Did you know that ninety one cents ($0.91) of every dollar raised goes directly to the researchers, investigating neurological diseases ranging from autism and Alzheimer’s to spina bifida and tinnitus?
Did you know your donations:
…helped discover folic acid as a way to reduce the risk of a child having spina bifida?
…enabled a treatment of hydrocephalus in children with spina bifida?
…discovered a protein that controls brain development?
…allowed the creation of a valid method of measuring tremor in clinical trials?
…started the entire field of genetic oncology?
Your KNRF support helps Dr. Robin Bowman discover improvements to fetoscopic surgery - surgery to correct spina bifida while the child is still in her mother’s womb without opening the womb itself.
Your KNRF support allows Dr. Grayson Holmbeck to understand the effectiveness of treatments for helping children with spina bifida become more independent through Camp Independence.
Your KNRF support enables Dr. Nico Dosenbach to dig into how the brain re-wires itself when a right-handed person has to use their left hand - this knowledge can be used to help people with brain injuries recover.
We have NINE researchers doing similar, ground-breaking work on cures or improving the quality of life of children and patients with diseases of the nervous system…
THESE ADVANCES AND DISCOVERIES CANNOT HAPPEN WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT!
Please conduct a KNRF-A-THON fundraiser specifically to raise monies to support YOUR I I DISTRICT KNRF FOUNDATION! It doesn’t matter whether its a Bowl-A-Thon, a Dance-A-Thon, or a Pancake Breakfast - your I-I District Foundation needs your help, and we need it now!
So let’s “POWER THROUGH” the fundraising and challenges that this year presents and make this year a record year! THANK YOU for your continued support of the I I District Kiwanis Neuroscience Research Foundation (KNRF).
In July, many of our board members attended Key Club International Convention (ICON) in Washington, DC. While there, we attended several sessions each day that helped us grow in our service and leadership skills; these events were not only a great chance to meet numerous Key Club members, but they also gave us important skills that we will bring back to strengthen our district. For instance, many of our members attended a workshop on planning successful events; we plan to use the strategies learned there to help us plan better Fall Leadership Rallies, meetings, and District Conventions.
In addition to learning skills, ICON helped us truly see the impact of Key Club in its entirety. We were able to witness hundreds of members coming together for our shared passion for service, listen to first hand accounts of Key Club members whose lives have been changed because of the organization, and witness how Key Club has shaped communities internationally. The week was truly an eye opening experience, and we could not be more thankful for the opportunity to be able to attend. After the convention ended, we also spent two days touring the nation’s beautiful capital city and saw marvelous sights, including the Library of Congress, the White House, and the Capitol!
Shoutout to Farmington, Pontiac, Belleville West, and Sycamore for sending students to ICON 2022!
