Meet Your Governor Hello I-I Key Clubbers! I am Kortny Marsh and I am so excited to be able to say that I am your new Illinois-Eastern Iowa District Governor! I am sure this will be a fantastic year, and I cannot wait to meet all of you! First things first, I would like to tell you a little bit about myself. I am currently a Junior at Dixon High School and I have been a part of Key Club since freshman year. I have served on my club board as a Secretary and I have served on the district board as a lieutenant governor. I have attended three District Conventions, three Fall Leadership Rallies, two Key Leaders, and I attended International Convention last year, and I hope to see you all in Baltimore this year! This year, I want to make things C.L.I.C.K! The first C stands for Clubs, because I want to stress how important individual clubs are this year. Clubs are the foundation of our organizations, and I believe placing a special emphasis on them will push us forward. L is for lieutenant governors. Strong lieutenant governors lead to a strong connection between the district and the clubs. This strong connection will allow the district board to be more helpful to you guys! I stands for Interest in Events. I believe that attending events such as District Convention, Fall Leadership Rally, and International Connection is what makes members realize how expansive and important Key Club really is. The more members we can get to these events, the more sharing of information and ideas there will be. This connection is what makes Key Club great. The second C stands for committees. This year, I want to make sure that both district and club committees are doing their best work. I plan on achieving this by making sure that district committees always feel like they have a sense of purpose, and I will have district committees that correspond with club committees to have more communication. Lastly, the K stands for Kiwanis Family Relations. The Kiwanis Family does everything for Key Club. K-Kids and Builder’s Club feed directly into Key Club, Kiwanis and Circle K guide us and allow us to hold conventions and big events, and Aktion Club shows us that no matter the circumstance, the love for service is universal. Meet Your Secretary Hi everyone! My name is Andrew Diep and I am currently a junior at Centennial High School. Outside of Key Club, I do a lot of other things. Some of my other hobbies include soccer, violin, tennis and watching a lot of the CW. My favorite show from the CW is The Flash, if you haven’t watch0ed it, I would highly recommend you check it out! I am also involved in a lot of other academic activities. I am a part of the Math Honors Society, Science National Honors Society, National Honors Society, Student Council. Just like everyone else, I joined Key Club when I was freshmen, so it has been a part me for quite sometime now. My passion for service started when I was in 8th grade when I was introduced to it. Ever since then, helping people have warmed up my heart. This year, I have 3 major goals: to expand and help the district reach the goal of 11,000 members, to help LTGs locate contact information more easily, and to take very descriptive minutes so that the board has something to refer back to if they have forgotten what was discussed during the district board meetings. Meet Your Statistical Secretary Hello, I-I Key Clubbers, My name is Emmy Stufflebeam, I am the newly elected Statistical Secretary for the I-I district. I am currently a sophomore at Canton High School in Division 20E and am beyond excited to serve on the Executive Board this year. Key Club has been a growing passion of mine for the past two years and I cannot wait to see what this new chapter of life has in store. If I’m not at a Key Club event, I’m usually thinking about the next one or talking someone’s ear off about a different one. I love making new friends with common passions; therefore, I’d love to serve with you. Feel free to send me information on an event your club is hosting. Meet Your Treasurer Hello Key Clubbers! My name is Alison Deng, and I am excited to serve as your 2019-2020 District Treasurer. Currently, I am a junior at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) in Aurora, IL, part of Division 21. I am a former member of Glenwood High School Key Club. This is my third year in Key Club, and I can’t wait to expand upon what I’ve done thus far as both a member and a leader. As stated in my platform, I hope to S(ervice)O(rganize)A(udience)R(esources) to new heights with all of you! I plan to uphold these values throughout my term in serving all of you. Currently, I am working on finishing developing a Treasurer’s Report for the 2018-2019 year and contacting the last few schools who have not turned in their dues. In the future, I hope to incorporate more about a job as treasurer in editions of the Iolian as well as ask for your feedback, input, and advice. Furthermore, I hope to work closely with all the club treasurers whether it be through email or FLRs, so feel free to reach out so that I can provide you with any resources you may need. However, my mission cannot be accomplished without the help of all of you, and in order to do that, please make sure that you can turn in your dues on time and even by November 1st for a special surprise. I encourage you to challenge yourself this year, and step outside your comfort zone, whether it be managing an event, achieving 50 service hours, or running for an officer position at the end of the year. Meet Your Editor Hello I-I! I am Kailee Huttenlocher and I am so excited to say that I am your new District Editor. I am currently a Sophomore at Pecatonica High School. I joined Key Club freshmen year and have held a club officer position ever sense. I am constantly talking about Key Club (and I mean that, one time I held up the line in Culvers because I was talking to the cashier about DCLC). Key Club never ceases to amaze me with the countless opportunities and impact a student lead organization can have! Key Club has impacted me in these past few years and I can not wait to see what’s in store for this new term! Some others things I participate in is Art Club and National Honors Society. I live on our family farm and I enjoy reading, photography, learning calligraphy and ASL. As editor, I want to focus on strengthening connections already made in the I-I District. I would love to do this by (1 st) focusing on aiding in the continuation of individual Key Clubs staying connected together, (2nd) helping further our connections with the Kiwanis family, and (3rd) helping clubs better connect to their local communities. Letter From Your International Trustee
Hello I-I! I want to start off by saying how wonderful it was to meet those of you who attended DCLC 2019! It was such a blast experiencing the cool traditions that the I-I District has. I met a lot of cool people, picked up a trick or two about being a better servant leader, and learned how to get funky on the dance floor! I hope we got to say hello throughout the weekend and if not, I’m always an email away! Right now, the international board is currently focusing on the releasement of the resources we have created such as: the google map of all the Key Clubs, district officer distinguished videos, and leadership quizzes. We’ve had so much fun brainstorming and producing these materials. We hope you have just as much fun using them! In these last few months, the preparation for ICON is the International Board’s main focus. ICON stands for International Convention. It is much like DCLC, but even bigger! The 33 districts of Key Club International gather together each year to celebrate the successful service year we’ve had. This year, International Convention is in Baltimore, Maryland!. This week is full of pin trading, student-led workshops, recognition sessions, and even bigger funky dances! ICON is also where the International Board is re-elected. I would love to see you there! Division 5/6-Chloe Hardy Hello Key Clubbers! My name is Chloe Hardy, and I am so excited to serve divisions 5 and 6 this upcoming service year as their Lieutenant Governor. To introduce myself a little bit better, I am a junior from Sycamore High School. Outside of Key Club, I participate in orchestra, rugby, girl scouts, and Seaylp. In all of these organizations, I have learned many skills, such as leadership, cooperation, and so many other things. With these skills I hope to make divisions five and six stronger and better than it has ever been. Division 7-Melanie Cohen My name is Melanie Cohen and I'm the Lieutenant Governor of Division 7. Besides Key Club, I'm also involved in tennis, badminton, and national art honors society. I attend Glenbrook North High School. I also have a puppy named Loki and a bearded dragon named Puff. I'm so excited for this upcoming year!
Division 8-Zahra Bhojani Hi, my name is Zahra Bhojani, and I am this year's Lieutenant Governor for Division 8. I am 16 years old, and I'm a sophomore at Lake Park High School (go Lancers!!!). This year is my first year in Key Club, but I loved it right when I joined. I love the idea of giving back to the community, and I do a lot of volunteering apart from key club. I'm super excited to work on the district board this year, as well as all the clubs in my district. Aside from key club, I enjoy playing volleyball and badminton, and I love shopping. I am involved in 6 other clubs at my school, and I do a lot of public speaking, which is another one of my hobbies. I write poetry, and take part in online and real life competitions on stage. One of my favorite things to do is travel - with family and friends. I'm an adrenaline junkie, which means when I travel, I also do a lot of a dventure sports like zip lining and hanging off skyscrapers :). Overall I'm a very outgoing person, and I can't wait for this term. Thanks for reading!!

Division 11-Paris Marshall Hello I-I Key Club members! I am Paris Marshall and I'm the Lieutenant Governor of Division 11 for the 2019-2020 year! I love Key Club and it's mission to make the world a better place. It has truly opened my eyes and made me a better person. A little bit about myself: I am currently a freshman at Marian Central in Woodstock. I love to go kayaking, snowmobiling, horseback riding, and play golf. Division 13-Caitlin McMurray Hi! My name is Caitlin McMurray. I am currently a Junior at Rochelle Township High School. I try to be very involved at my school. This past year I have participated in band, choir, vocal jazz, tennis, speech team, math team, student council, and of course Key Club. Just recently I have also been inducted into the National Honor Society. Although I am very involved I have decided to give up at least 3 of those activities in order to fully commit myself to key club. I am very hard working and I come from a family where all 3 of my older siblings were in key club before me. Key club was just a given for me to be in, but I am so very happy that I have decided to stick to it and pursue a higher purpose in this club. I hope to benefit many people by being this year's Division 13 Lieutenant Governor.
Division 14-Brady Keierleber I’m Brady Keierleber and I’m the Lieutenant Governor of Division 14. I’m a Junior at Sycamore High School and I was our club President last year. My favorite hobbies are watching baseball, hitting dingers in wiffle ball and eating really big steaks. In fact one time I ate a 4 pound steak. Also I’m 6’3 and play guitar. That’s about it.
Division 15-El Taverna Hello I-I District! I'm El Taverna, the new LTG for Division 15. I am currently a junior at Dubuque Senior High School, and the president elect of my home club. I have been involved in Key Club since my freshman year, and have loved every minute of it! Service is one of my greatest passions and I can’t wait to implement that passion as lieutenant governor. Outside of Key Club, I am involved in speech and theater, Model UN, and GSA. My extracurriculars are my favorite things about high school, and Key Club is definitely my favorite. Outside of school, I enjoy reading and writing, and makeup art! I am also a travel bug, so I’m extremely excited about icon in Baltimore! All in all, I know this year is going to be great for the I-I District, and I’m so excited to get started.

Division 16-Sestina Stairs Hello Key Clubbers, I am so excited to work with all of you guys this year! My name is Sestina Stairs and I am the Lieutenant Governor of division 16. I am currently a Junior at Auburn High School in Rockford, Illinois. I joined my schools Key Club Sophomore year and, even though it has only been a short period of time, I love it with all of my heart. I have also participated in my schools Student Council. I have been playing Softball just about all of my life and I am currently on my schools Varsity team (woo #9). I am involved in many extra curricular activities. I serve as freshman class president, am part of my schools group interpretation team, cheer squad, musical cast, jazz choir, and chorus. I am also an avid member of student council, FCA, and of course key club. Beginning high school has offered me so many opportunities I am truly grateful for. I am a sophomore at Galesburg High School and I joined Key Club last year as a Freshmen. Division 20 West-Hailey Wiedeman Hello folks, I am Hailey Wiedeman. I am a sophomore from Peoria heights and I’m fifteen years old. I have three sisters, three cats, and a dog. I like to think of myself as a very goofy and funny person. I also think I am very artistic and I enjoy almost all music. I spend most of my time drawing, hanging out with my close friends, and volunteering. Volunteering is one of my favorite things and I love everything about it. I hope to make a good lieutenant governor.

Division 21-Anesa Nevzadi Hi everyone! My name is Anesa Nevzadi. I am the new Lieutenant Governor for the 2019-2020 year. I am incredibly excited to be working for and with such an amazing organization such as Key Club. I am a freshman at Plainfield Central High School, and this is my first year in Key Club. I think the best part about being in Key Club is definitely the people. The people you meet in this club are some of the kindest and most caring you will ever meet. Outside of Key Club I am heavily involved in acting which I’ve been doing since 5 th grade. I also love to travel even though I don’t get to do it that often. By the end of this year, I want to bring our district closer together and focus on helping individual clubs in increasing membership. I cannot wait to work with you all this year!

Division 22 South-Anthony Fanelli Hello, My name is Anthony S. Fanelli and I am the Lieutenant Governor of the Illinois-Iowa 22 South district. I am currently a junior at Le Roy High School, and the president of the Key Club there. I am very involved in the music program at Le Roy, as I am in Band, Chorus, and participate in the yearly play and musical. I also work at the local vet in Le Roy every weekday after school, which is not as glorious of a job as it may sound… On top of all this though, I am an involved member of the Key Club organization who looks forward to serving this organization for the better! 15

Division 25/27-Emily Lewis Hi! My name is Emily Lewis and I am the Lieutenant Governor for Division 25/27. I'm a sophomore at Mt. Division 28/29-Hayden Schillinger Hi, my name is Hayden Schillinger and I am the lieutenant governor for Division 28/29. I am currently a sophomore at Glenwood High School in Chatham, Illinois. I have been in Key Club since my freshman year and I look forward to using the skills I will gain as LTG to serve my community past high school. As another extracurricular, I run on the long distance track team at my school. It is very challenging but I enjoy seeing how hard work pays off, much like how serving others through Key Club will greatly impact the community. Unlike most high schoolers, I really enjoy attending school and my favorite classes this year are Honors Algebra II/Trigonometry and AP European History. I also enjoy drawing, writing, and going to amusement parks during the summer. (I am on the right) 16

Hey Key Clubbers! My name is Chase Cappello and I am the new Lieutenant Governor for Division 31/34! I am currently a sophomore at Belleville-West High School, and aside from Key Club, I’m also involved in marching band, student council, and yearbook! I originally joined this club for a chance to fund-raise for American Foundation for Suicide Prevention after I lost my closest friend, now not only was I able to raise money for a cause so close to my heart successfully with the help of this organization, but I was also exposed to so many other charities and opportunities to help my community, and the opportunity to pour all of these negative emotions into something beneficial not only for me but for those in need. This club has helped me in ways I could never properly express and I am super excited to be able to give back to this club that has given so much to me. Division 33/36– Many Rowland Hello! My name is Amanda Rowland, but some people call me Mandy. I am the new Lieutenant Governor for Division 33/36. In this short and sweet article I will just be telling you a little bit about myself! To start off, I’ve grown up in the 4 little barbeque capital of Illinois, Murphysboro. I take part in a few extracurriculars at my school. These include, Concert Choir, Art Club, Drama Club, and of course Key Club! I love helping my community in any way I can! I would consider myself an artist, I love to paint, draw, write, and craft. I do very well in school and am a hard worker! This was just a little bit about me! My First DCLC Read two very interesting stories about how two friends met at DCLC!
I’m Kai Kapono Rider and I went to DCLC for a high school club known as Key Club. I was a distinguished member at DCLC but after it ended I would be the new treasure for Waverly Keyclub. I learned so many things and met some of the nicest people I ever met. I went to numerous meetings to learn about how to be a treasure and attended meetings to listen all of the runners for Keyclub Illinois-Eastern Iowa District Board. I shared a hotel room with Jackson Huff, Kyle Roeschley, and Preston. Preston was from a Southeast High School but he was the only boy going to DCLC from his Key Club so he roomed with the me, Kyle, and Jackson from Waverly, but Preston was a very polite and got along very well with the us. As my first time going to a big convention I was very nervous but once I got there all my nerves went away and the people there made it feel like a type of home in a way. Overall I really enjoyed DCLC and would recommend others to join Keyclub and go to DCLC next year. Hey, I’m Kyle Roeschley and I’m would like to tell you about my first experience at DCLC. Similar to Kai, I was also a distinguished member, however, I hold the statistical secretary position now. At DCLC, I learned ways to do my new job, watched a hypnotist, played games, and met many great people. I shared my hotel room with Jackson and Kai, from my school and Preston, who goes to Southeast High School. Even though we didn’t know Preston before, he fit in just as if we did. Being my first time, eating in the huge dinner halls was amazing. Even though I was skeptical about going in the beginning, I’m very happy I decided to go. If you aren’t sure if you would like to go or not, I recommend that you do.

Come To ICON This Year! By Tyler Swanson (retired I-I Governor) Hey Key Clubbers! Now that the school year is coming to a close, it is a great time to start thinking about International Convention! This years convention will be held in Baltimore, Maryland and you will not want to miss it. We will spend time in Washington, D.C. touring landmarks as well as visit the United States capitol and (tentatively) the White House! Our time in Baltimore will be just as exciting with a visit to the national aquarium, a hotel located right next to the harbor, and a convention that will teach you more about Key Club than you could learn anywhere else. Costs are $895.00 per person in a quad room so it is important to think about fundraising! I have found the best way to fund International Convention is to use the rule of thirds with you, your Key Club, and your Kiwanis Club contributing a third of your funds to attend the convention. You can also hold fundraisers to help as well! My home club sold root beer floats to raise money and it was very successful. (See the picture below!) When it comes to fundraising, the only limit is your imagination! I have been to the past two International Conventions in San Antonio, Texas and Chicago, Illinois. Each convention has left me with friendships that will last a lifetime and experiences that I will never forget. My time at convention in San Antonio is what inspired me to run for District Governor and changed my entire outlook on Key Club! This year, we have a goal of getting 100 I-I Key Clubbers to Baltimore for convention. I hope to see you there! I-I Give Me Five Achievers Last school year, I-I District challenged clubs to “Give Me Five” more members than the previous year. Prizes were suppose to be awarded at District Convention. Unfortunately, awards were not able to be handed out at the time. The District Board is working hard to figure out ways to distribute prizes to the achieving clubs. ELIMINATE Eliminate Week: May 6th-10th Every 15 minutes, a newborn baby dies from tetanus. The mother can not even offer a comforting touch. Any type of touch causes a newborn baby pain. Eliminate is one of KCI Major Emphasis programs This program is throught UNICEF, which aims to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. Will you help save lives this May? 25
Club Spotlight On February 23, 2019, the Pecatonica Key Club put on a fundraiser called Mr. PHS. The funds we raised went to the Children’s Miracle Network. The Children’s Miracle Network is a non-profit organization that raises money for children’s hospitals, research, and awareness of children’s health issues. We did this fundraiser last year as well, and the money was donated to the Thirst Project. This year we raised a total of $5,000 to give to the Children’s Miracle Network. The Mr. PHS contest is a male beauty pageant. Two representatives from each grade in our high school participate each with a female escort of their choice. They work together on each of the five categories of the pageant. The most important category is the funds raised category. Throughout the week of the pageant, contestants raised money to help boost their score. The score boost motivated them to raise even more money. They also did a “dash for cash” during the pageant which allowed them to run around the audience and collect money from people for a minute. This year’s winner was Junior Kelton Gann. Mr. PHS brings together our school and community, and it allows people to feel like they are making a difference and have fun! We are thankful for everyone’s support in helping us raise money for Children’s Miracle Network! By Jenna Revell

Travels Of I-I Captain Formerly Known As “Governors Travels”
Hello I-I! I-I Captain here. I have been very busy after District Convention (DCLC)! First, I had to learn the ropes. Not only that, but I have been busy doing lots of behind-the-scenes work, making sure I-I runs smoothly. About a week after DCLC, I went on my first trip. The Executive Board gathered in Springfield for an “Training Weekend.” (Did you see our Facebook post?) Not only did this weekend allow us to learn more about our positions, it allowed us to bond with our new board members. We were able to learn more about each other, bounce ideas off of each other (and with some adult helpers as well), and make plans for this upcoming year! It was lots of work, but I was able to sneak away to go miniature golfing, explore the mall, and eat a ginormous horseshoe! (Also, thank you to Mr. Palazzolo and your family for opening up your house and having the thought to start this up again!) Thank you for reading! Kiwanis Family “Our members come from all walks of life, all corners of the globe and from every age group and ability. But make no mistake about it—we are family.” (Key Club International) The Kiwanis family (also called K Fam) consists of K Kids, Builders Club, Key Club, Circle K, Kiwanis, Aktion Club, and Golden K. The Kiwanis family is not only made to be a connection for clubs to help each other out, but it allows members stay in the Kiwanis family thought out their entire lives. Byron, Illinois is an amazing example of how important and well-run the Kiwanis family is. Sharalyn Wilson leads this Builders Club full of roughly thirty students. They meet every month where they do different service projects as a group! (For their last meeting they made kindness rocks and teacher appreciation gifts.) They also do large-scale service project such as partnering with their Key Club to serve at a Kiwanis event. (They have also made “homeless bags” to give to and tour the Rockford Rescue Mission!) One girl said that her favorite part about Builders Club was that she was able to “give back to a community that has given so much to me.” Builders Club may run differently than Key Club (for example, their board positions switch every month) but both clubs in the Kiwanis family have one goal in mind-to serve. Featuring this impactful Builders Club is just one way to express how much I-I values the importance of our Kiwanis family!
