Governor’s Update Hello I-I Key Clubbers! I hope you have enjoyed your summers and are ready for school to start! (I know, none of you are excited for school, I am not either.) But with school comes Key Club! I am so so excited for this upcoming year! I know that together we will do great things! Even though school stopped, I-I Key Club didn’t! I love seeing all of the wonderful service projects and social events you guys had throughout the summer! You are doing amazing work, not only for your communities, but the world! I am so inspired by each of you every day. Over the summer, the district board has made a few goals and planned a lot for this upcoming year. Below, there is an inside look at what your district is doing! Key Leader:
This year, Key Leader is back in the I-I District! We have decided to bring back this wonderful leadership weekend, and we want you to come! Since Key Leader is still in the early planning stages, I do not have too much solid information for you guys. What I can tell you is that Key Leader is life changing. As silly or dramatic as it sounds, Key Leader drastically changed the way I see the world, how I serve, and how I see others. It is an amazing weekend, where you truly learn what is like to be a leader. Through inspiring lectures, fun group activities, grounding personal reflection time, and an adrenaline inducing ropes course, Key Leader will change the way you lead. If you would like more information about Key Leader, I encourage you to reach out to me or to your Lieutenant Governor.

A Closer Look at the District Board: I really believe that the District Board should really lead by example, especially when it comes to service. That is why I was so excited when the Theme and Major Emphasis Committee brought this goal up, as a District Board we have made a goal to raise 1,000 dollars or more for Key Club preferred charities. The Theme and Major Emphasis committee has also set a goal of 40,000 dollars to be donated to the ELMINATE Project this year. Our Spastic Paralysis and Research Foundation Committee is planning a walk, and hope to collect 3,000 dollars to be donated in hope of finding a cure for Spina bifida. Personally, I am focusing on member retention and trying to find a better balance between new club building and member retention. I am also extremely focused on the work of all of the Lieutenant Governors, my main job is to insure that they are helping you all to the best of their abilities, so throughout my term so far I have been thinking about ways to aid them, and in turn, aid you all. What is going on the International Board: A few days ago I returned home from Indianapolis, I visited Kiwanis International Headquarters and met up with the new International Board. It was an incredible weekend, and I am so honored to be working with all of them. In Indianapolis, I also met with our new International Trustee, Daniel Suh! I am so excited that he is serving us this year. We had a chance to sit down and talk about what he can do for us, and how he can interact with all of you, and I was blown away by all of is ideas. Daniel is also serving the New England and Bermuda District, and the Minnesota Dakotas District, which means we are 'sister districts'! I am really excited for our district to grow with theirs, and see what we can do together! Thank you all so much for the work you have done, and the work you continue to do every day. If you ever need anything, I welcome you to reach out to me. I am here for your benefit in any way that I can. Secretary’s Update Hello everyone! I'm Oviya, the I-I District Secretary. These past few months, I've been working on getting LTG's motivated to communicate with their clubs and advisors over the summer. By doing so, we've gotten a lot of rosters turned in before the R.I.O.T deadline (which is fantastic!). I've also been working on updating the master directory so that the district board can efficiently and effectively communicate with any club board in the district. Finally, I've started to directly communicate with club advisors so they can understand why club rosters are so important to our district. Treasurer’s Update Hello everyone! My name is Anthony Palazzolo, and I am serving you as District Treasurer for the 2016-2017 year. There are two main things I would like you to remember: 1. DUES. Please know that October 1st, 2016 is when your clubs can start turning in their members’ dues, and December 1st, 2016 is when they are actually due. If your club wishes to earn the Early Bird Dues award, the deadline date for that is November 1st, 2016. If your club has not turned in their dues for the 2015-2016 year, your club has until September 30th, 2016 until your club becomes inactive. When your club is inactive, you cannot participate in any District events and cannot vote at the 2017 Key Club District Convention. When you want to send in your dues, send them to this address:

Your clubs can raise money throughout October. You can take the collection boxes to all your classes and ask your friends and teachers. Here are three simple steps to take part in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF: 1. Plan a fundraiser to raise money for Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. Statistical Secretary’s Update Hey I-I District Key Clubbers!!! The summer is almost to a close and I really do hope everyone had some great times. Besides the fact that school is starting, make sure you get a head start on some Key Club things so this that this year is always better than the last. Please, remember to keep sending in the Monthly Report Forms, which are due the 10th of each month! You can find the link on the I-I District Website. Submitting the Monthly Report Form allows you to share your club activity, request resources, and express any concerns you have! In addition, I will be able to assess your club and send you a grade sheet to keep track of how well your club is doing monthly.
The next Monthly Report Form is due September 10th, and it covers the months of June 1, through August 31. If your club has missed two consecutive reports, starting from March, then your club is NOT in good standing, and that's not a good thing :). Make sure you have all MRF's in by contacting your Lieutenant Governor, and getting the missing reports in. If you questions about ANYTHING, I'm always free to answer. Editor’s Update Hello Fellow I-I Key Clubbers! Summer may be coming to a close and school may be starting, but that means something very exciting--- Key Club will soon be in full swing! Over the summer, I have created an idea for a new section of the Iolian called “At My First DCLC…” It is a section that holds submissions from members who have attended District Convention and Leadership Conference sharing their experiences. Submission Criteria can be found on page 13 or in a previous email sent out by your Lieutenant Governor. Also, submission deadlines are set from now on to be the fifteenth of every month. For example, submissions for the October Iolian are due on September fifteenth, November Iolian Submissions will be due October fifteenth, and so on. This deadline applies for club spotlight submissions and for “At My First DCLC…” submissions. I will also be attending all four Fall Leadership Rallies to help train new incoming editors! Key Club Awards for You! Did you know that you can get awards for being in Key Club? That’s right! The Illinois-Eastern Iowa Key Club District offers many individual awards to each Key Clubber out there. Check it out! * 100 Hour Honor: Complete a minimum of 100 hours of actively serving your community. Application listing all service projects and short descriptions to be filled out by applicant * Distinguished Officer: Can be any Key Clubber holding office in your club (president, vice president, editor, secretary, etc.). Applications available that describe point system criteria and required points for officers must be completed and filled out. * Distinguished Member: Can be any Key Clubber, one award for every grade level (9th-12th) per club. Applications available that describe point system criteria and required points for members must be completed and filled out. This could be yours!
Make sure to get working on earning those awards, the applications must be received by January 10, 2017! 10

At My First DCLC‌ Hey I-I Key Clubbers, I’m Noah Mackjust and I am the CKI DCLC Chair! My first DCLC was at the Indian Lakes Resort, March 9th-11th 2013 in Bloomingdale, IL. Our theme was "Key to the Future" the convention is what opened my eyes to the endless opportunities that Key Club and the Kiwanis family can offer you! Our then governor Morgan Murphy looked at me and told me that I had amazing leadership potential and that she thought that I was what the I-I Kiwanis Family needed. Well now I have been Woodland Key Clubs Public Relations Chairperson, Club Editor, and now I serve as the District Convention Chairperson for the Illinois-Eastern Iowa District of Circle K and Northern Illinois Universities Club Editor! It shows that the Kiwanis family can offer you endless opportunities! This year at my last district convention I was awarded the top award that I high school senior can receive in Key Club International the Sandy Nininger Award! That was the icing on the cake of my senior year! So have fun, stick with the Kiwanis family, and you will be opened up to amazing opportunities! I am so proud of the work you have all accomplished so far!

What is At My First DCLC? At My First DCLC is a new section of the Iolian that includes articles submitted by members of the I-I District who have attended District Convention and Leadership Conference. I started this section of the Iolian to encourage members who have not attended convention before to attend and educate them on the positive life changing experiences that it can provide for them.
Submission Criteria: Submitter must have attended at least one DCLC Send in a picture from first DCLC and most recent DCLC (if there is only one only one picture is needed) Include the name of your home club in your signature Proper Grammar & Punctuation Submissions can include but are not limited to: o What was learned and how it was used o Experiences with meeting people o Funny/Happy/Good memories o Location, Theme, and Dates of your first DCLC o If applicable, DCLC experiences that have to do with being on the District Board o Forums that helped you or had an impact on you

Fall Leadership Rallies If you don’t know, Fall Leadership Rallies are like smaller District Convention and Leadership Conferences. New officers are trained, there are service projects, members can learn all about key club, there is a session for the advisors, and the afternoon is packed full of fun workshops! Fall Leadership Rallies are completely free to attend, and take place in the afternoon. If you want more information about your Fall Leadership Rally, reach out to Governor Mast or to your Lieutenant Governor! Below are the times and locations for each! The Northeastern Fall Leadership Rally will be at Hinsdale Central High School, on October 2nd. If you are in the northeastern region, please contact your Lieutenant Governor for more information! The Northwestern Fall Leadership Rally will be at Muscatine High School on October 1st. If you are in the northwestern region, please contact your Lieutenant Governor for more information The Central Fall Leadership Rally will be at Woodland High School on September 25th from 1pm to 4pm. If you are in the central region, please contact your Lieutenant Governor for more information! The Southern Fall Leadership Rally will be at Belleville West High School on September 24th. If you are in the southern region, please contact your Lieutenant Governor for more information! 14

District Convention and Leadership Conference Dates: March 10-12 Location: The DoubleTree in Oakbrook, IL Hi everyone! Club Spotlight Time to honor clubs in our District that have been doing tremendous work in their homes, schools, and communities! Want to know how to get your club in the spotlight? Email an article and pictures of a service project that club has done to editor@iikeyclub.org or use the template in www.iikeyclub.org! We’d love to see! Division 33/36 – In the Murphysboro Key Club there is a service Murphysboro High School project that will forever stand out in the hearts of not only all of the Key Clubbers who participate in it, but also in hundreds of community members. The immense impact this project has made in its community has allowed the Murphysboro Key Club to stand out internationally for years. This famous project is called the Toy/Coat/Food Drive. Each year, Key Clubbers work vigorously to wrap hundreds of gifts for less fortunate children in the area. While some of the gifts are donated by local families, the majority of the presents come from collection boxes in businesses such as Walmart and Walgreens. The club also has money collection boxes in local banks and other businesses. Besides wrapping gifts, students also organize canned foods throughout December. Before the Toy/Coat/Food Drive officially begins, the Murphysboro Key Club hosts a canned food drive in their school and offers incentives for the students who collect the most cans. Other festive food such as ham, macaroni, cake mix, and fruit are bought from the local Kroger and/or Walmart. When the drive actually begins, students can be found putting together food boxes, collecting gifts for the requested age group, finding coats in requested sizes, and delivering the requested items to homes in the community. This project is one that many people in the Murphysboro area highly depend on during the holidays. The influence this project has on members of the Key Club is outstanding.

It provides students with the opportunity to meet new people and engage in new, fun leadership experiences that can change their lives for the better! Keep an eye out for more information about Illinois-Eastern Iowa Key Leader coming in 2017!

Youth Opportunities Fund Want to make a difference with a service project but need more funds to complete it? Apply to the Youth Opportunities Fund! The Youth Opportunities fund (YOF) is an endowed fund for Key Club International that is held within the Kiwanis International Foundation and uses earned interest to help Key Clubs and Key Club members do service to the world by offering grants for service opportunities.
From the Key Club International Website--- The basics you need to know:
YOF grants are given only to Key Clubs and/or club members. There is only one funding cycle for the Youth Opportunities Fund. The application must be received by October 15 at 11:59 PM EST. Clubs may request funding assistance ranging anywhere from US$100 to US$2,000. The committee typically funds those clubs who are asking for a portion of the total cost of the project, and clubs who are working with other organizations to fund and complete the project. There is one funding cycle for YOF grants per year. Applications received by October 15 at 11:59 PM EST are reviewed by the Key Club International YOF committee at their November meeting. Funding notifications are mailed no later than January first each year. Applicants must use the current YOF grant application. Previous years' applications will not be accepted. Guidelines for filing the application are also listed in the Key Club Guidebook under Board Policies 21
