Mayor Kieser and Councilor Parkes being sworn into office in July George Town residents have elected a new Mayor and Councillor after the by-election forced by departure of Bridget Archer from council after being successfuly elected as the Federal Member for Bass. Greg Kieser was succesfully elected as the towns new mayor with Peter Parkes elected for the position as councilor. 5,551 electors in total are enrolled in the George Town muncipal

area, 2,862 votes were returned with a total ballot response rate of 51.56%. Three candidates put themselves forward for the postion of Mayor being Chris Barraclough (853 votes), Tim Harris (877 votes) and Greg Kieser (1,071). Eleven people were candidates the councilor postion Trudi Cross (467 votes), Dean Gibbons (345 votes), Wendy Harrap (104 votes), Kirsten McCreghan (202 votes),

Jason Orr (278 votes), Tim Parish (479 vores), Peter Parkes (479 votes), Bob Pooley (252 votes), Nicole Scott (136 votes), Sean Tiernan (67 votes) and Sven Wiener (47 votes). The campaign period was very sort was only a handful of candidates making use of signage and letter box drops. Succesful candidates will remain in their positions until Tasmanian statewide local government elections in 2022.
