One such small business has recently changed ownership, with the new owner shaking up the industry, and leading the way for cleaning services in Launceston.

Frank Strochnetter, the new owner of Quick Fix Cleaning, provides roof and gut-

ter cleaning, pressure & soft washing, and window cleaning to residential and commercial customers in and around Launceston.

“I’m a fully qualified plumber and roofer by trade,” Frank begins, laying the foundation of his transition to Quick Fix Cleaning.

Frank uses his experience as a professional roofer to guide his work, allowing him to offer roof inspections while doing cleaning and maintenance jobs, while also knowing how

to work safely while on a roof.

Tired of the never-ending cycle of hard work with little personal gain, Frank decided to chart a new path.

Even if it’s last minute, a rough plan can save you time and stress. Make a list of the gifts you need to get and work out where you would like to buy them from.

You probably ask yourself each year why you leave your shopping until the last minute due to the utter chaos, and out of frustration, you promise yourself you’ll be more organised next year, but here we are.

City marketing agency, Launceston Central, is calling on the community to shop local this Christmas and says there are plenty of reasons to do so.

“Our city retailers have been busy stocking shelves with plenty of gift options for young and old, we’ve got cafés galore for a mid-shopping pit-stop, and we’ve coordinated a full schedule of holiday-season fun to complete your family day out,” said Launceston Central’s Executive Officer, Amanda McEvoy.

The celebrations kick off on Friday 24 November with City of Launceston’s official lighting of the Christmas tree, carol performances, and plenty of children’s activities. The date coincides with the Black Friday sales event, with select city retailers open late for people to get started on their Christmas shopping.

“From now until Christmas, there’ll be free family entertainment in the Brisbane Street Mall every Saturday between 10am and 3pm, with community groups and school children singing, face painters, colouring-in activities, and the delightful Mrs. Claus making her rounds of the city,” Ms McEvoy said.

“On select Sundays, we’ll also have SuperSillyUs Circus in the mall providing fun activities for the kids.”

Alongside the entertainment program are not one, but two competitions to kindle the festive spirit.

The much-beloved annual hunt for Santa’s lost reindeer takes on an exciting new twist this year, with participants now able to listen to Santa’s clues via a free app, before sleuthing their way around town to find the errant reindeer hidden in shop windows throughout the city centre.

Shoppers are also invited to vote for their favourite Christmas window decorations by posting a photo to social media with the hashtag #LaunnieChristmas2023.

And the magic of Christmas will be alive in the Old Brisbane Arcade with Santa’s Mailbox.

Children are welcomed to drop their letters to Santa and, if they do so before 21 December, they’ll receive a special reply in the mail.

Celebrating Children’s Week In Civic Square

explained.

Cr Garwood explained that he is able to empathise with parents since the birth of his daughter, Billie.

“Since being a father to my daughter, Billie, I’m seeing how a parent could feel a little isolated,” he said.

“So, to find a community of parents going through similar feelings and emotions, it is really encouraging to see so many of them coming together to let each other know that they’re not alone and that they can express their feelings and come together.”

“It’s important as a parent to not lose your sense of identity. Events like this are vital to

validate our sense of belonging and it’s just as important for the parents as well as the kids.”

The event not only brought children and parents together but was a great learning opportunity for children as well.

“The connection to the Launceston Library is really important, especially with children’s literacy,” empathised Graham Lillywhite.

“Having an early connection with that being a safe space and a place of fun is ongoing.”

With the success of this year’s events, it is hopeful that Launceston residents will be able to enjoy events such as this for years to come.

Tips for a pawesome summer in Launceston With temperatures on the rise, the city’s dog owners are hitting trails and off-leash exercise areas across the municipality.

City of Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood said the summer months were a fantastic time of year for Launceston families and their four-legged friends to explore the municipality’s network of dog-friendly trails, parks and reserves.

“Warmer weather means that there are more people out in our parks and reserves, and more fur babies out with their families as well,” Mayor Garwood said.

“So it’s important as dog owners that we’re considerate of others, that we pick up after our pets, and that we are aware of where it’s required to keep our dogs on a lead.”

“There’s a dog for every six people in Launceston and, as a whole, Launceston’s dog owners are responsible and considerate owners, who consider their animals to be a part of their family, and who do the right things.”

“This includes ensuring their pet is microchipped, de-sexed, registered and wearing clear identification tags, as well as ensuring your pet has access to shelter and water at all times, and a secure and safe area to call home.”

“Unfortunately, we also have animal owners that aren’t as considerate, who let their animals wander, who risk the lives of their animals and the animals of others; we’ve seen already this year serious dog attacks on livestock and other pets.”

“In those instances, the City of Launceston will investigate and prosecute owners and the courts may declare a dog dangerous or even order that it be destroyed.”

“So please don’t put our regulations officers in that position this summer; we want this to be a great summer where Launceston residents can enjoy everything our city has to offer, whether they have two legs or four.”

Mayor Garwood said it was a perfect time for pet owners to check their dog’s collar and

identification tags, and to replace them if they show signs of wear and tear.

“We know that during the winter months, pet owners tend to walk their dogs closer to home, but when the weather warms up people really enjoy exploring new areas,” Mayor Garwood said.

“Remember that many parts of Launceston are on the urban fringe where other animals live, including snakes.

“It’s common for us to find more dogs wandering from home in the warmer months, and that’s due to a number of reasons.”

“Another common thing we see is how old timber fencing contracts and expands from winter to summer, and whole planks of it may just fall off, creating escape routes for your pets.”

“While we all want our dogs to enjoy their walks, it’s important to remember that dogs must be on a lead when being walked on a public street and can only be off-lead in designated areas.”

Splish, Splash: First Basin Pool to open in December Unlike the previous year when the pool was delayed from opening due to severe weather that caused flooding, the Cataract Gorge’s popular First Basin Swimming Pool is now open for public use ahead of the busy summer season.

Lifeguards from the City of Launceston Leisure & Aquatic Centre will supervise the First Basin Swimming Pool from December 1, between 11am and 4pm each day.

The Lilydale Swimming Pool will open to the public on Friday, December 1, with lifeguards on duty from 3pm to 6pm on weekdays and from 2pm to 6pm on weekends and

public holidays.

Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood encouraged residents and visitors to take advantage of the pool to cool off this summer.

“There are plenty of options to cool off this summer, whether it’s at the City of Launceston Leisure & Aquatic Centre, the First Basin Swimming Pool or the Lilydale Swimming Pool,” Mayor Garwood said.

“The First Basin and Lilydale Swimming Pools are fantastic free options for swimming, providing a safe aquatic environment which people of all ages can utilise for leisure, recreation, and fitness.”

“No matter where you’re swimming it’s important to be conscious of your safety and the safety of those around you.”

“Remember to keep children six years and under within reach, and actively supervise children under eleven at all times.”

“Please follow any directions from our lifeguards and be considerate of others.”
