My colleague Stef and I decided to take a visit to Milano’s Café in the pretty border town of Oswestry. Tucked away, down Old Chapel Court, in the centre of the town, there is an array of shops and boutiques and nestled amongst them is this delightful café, serving breakfast, lunch, coffee and drinks & snacks. As we entered we felt a warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The café is surprisingly spacious, which make for a comfortable experience and has the capacity to cater for a further 40 people upstairs. We were made to feel very welcome by owners Jonathan and Amanda Roberts and decided to take a seat in the lovely conservatory area.

We both took a good look at the menu which had a good selection and varied choices available, from soup of the day and freshly prepared Panini’s to filling jacket potatoes and pasta dishes; an impressive array of options which made choosing all the more difficult.

After much debate I decided to go for the Pasta Milano; pasta in a cream sauce with chicken, bacon and spinach accompanied with garlic bread and a salad and a Latte. The cake counter was too tempting and the Scone was a must for me to round things off brilliantly. Stef decided to try the Cajun Chicken, Mozzarella and Sweet Chilli Panini, again with a creamy Latte and a Rocky Road – which looked amazing.

Our lattes arrived first, shortly followed by the cakes. We are all coffee lovers and this coffee was fantastic, courtesy of a brand new coffee machine, the quality in my opinion would beat that of any national chain by a country mile! The temptation of getting stuck into our cakes was hard to resist but we managed to wait the short time until our main dishes arrived and wow; it was definitely worth the wait. Quality and value for money was clear to see. Stefs Panini was huge and packed with tasty chicken, and my pasta was fantastic full of flavour and piping hot. The ingredients worked well together and the creamy sauce assured it was the perfect dish which I would be happy to recommend. It was made even better by the chicken, bacon and spinach, finished nicely with the

crunchy garlic bread and salad; one of the best pasta dishes I’ve had in quite some time. Stef was equally impressed with his Panini; the Cajun chicken was cooked perfectly and with the melted mozzarella and sweet chilli made this very enjoyable dish, he was really surprised how big the Panini was, he was very impressed.

We then made a start on our puddings, with a little struggle to fit them in after such amazing main dishes. The scone is a big favourite of mine so I am not easily pleased but this was perfect; nice and soft but crumbly, just how I like it and full of flavour too. It came accompanied by a good helping of butter and jam. Stef really enjoyed his Rocky Road which was bursting with flavour and perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth and Stef does reallt does.

Overall we had a great experience, Jonathan and Amanda and the rest of the team made us feel really welcome and it has that friendly and community feel to it, the prices are very reasonable and the food is fantastic. With more than enough space to accommodate groups or parties and families with children, they even offer a takeaway service. The café is open Monday – Saturday and is a welcome retreat on busy market days.

Jonathan and Amanda have some great plans for the future, including opening for special evenings once a month. We look forward to returning again some time soon, to see how this all turns out, and wish them the very best!

Tiger Woods - speaking with Peter Dawson, Chairman of Falcon Golf, and former Chief Executive of The R&A and former Secretary of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrewsreflects on the injury struggles he has faced over the past 18 months and his comeback.

TW: The Dubai that I know has changed absolutely dramatically.It’s hard to wrap your head around it. It’s like the beginning part of New York city. It has changed so much, so fast. It’s just truly remarkable.

Overall just the experience of coming here and seeing the changes that have evolved over the years. That's what’s been, just how much effort has gone into making this city so great and so expansive so quickly.

PD: Hey man. It must have changed a lot since you were up here last.

TW: It has.

PD: Well it must have been, brought back a few memories being back on that helipad. I think it was back in 04’ you hit that iconic shot that’s been shown around the world so often and here we are what 13 years later.

TW: My main goal was to try and hit the helicopter that was flying around. And I came close a couple of times. It was one of those things where it was a lot of fun doing it.

PD: The leadership here is truly visionary and they encourage change.

TW: They think outside the box and they’re thinking ahead. Very modern thinking.

PD: Yes. Ah. These guys I guess are getting tougher to beat aren’t they?

TW: Now. All these guys can move it. Don't forget now. You have, you can get away with

hitting the ball off centre. You couldn't get away with miss-hitting a ball before. It wasn't important to hit the ball hard, it was more important to hit the ball flush. That ball spun so much and curved off line so much. Now these kids tee up like this. Far forward and just go after it.

PD: You know the last eighteen months must have been really frustrating for you.

The whole world of golf is delighted to see you back competing.

TW: It was tough. I mean, Peter, it was more than brutal. Because there were times when I physically didn't know if I could get out of bed. And then were times when I needed help just to get out of bed. It was hardest things to wrap my head around. I had a lot of great people around me to help me. Help keep my spirits up and two of the most important people in my life kept my spirits up every day they were my kids.

PD: Was there a time when despair took over and you thought I am never going to get back out there again.

TW: Yeah. No, no there have been plenty of times, plenty of times when I thought I would never play the game at the elite level.

You put in the leg work. You gotta get in the gym. You gotta hit balls. You’ve gotta refine your game, not make dumb mistakes out there on the golf course and in order to do that you’ve gotta play a lot and I couldn't play. And, you know playing once every three or four weeks that's not going to cut it. There were a lot of times when I didn't think I was going to make it back.

PD: How do you feel now?

TW: You know I feel good, not great.

Granted, I don't think I’ll ever feel great because it’s three back surgeries, four knee operations.

PD: You must always wonder I guess.

TW: You know I am always going to be a little bit sore. It’s just the way it is. But as long as I can function and function at a good enough level then I’m fine with that.

PD: Looking forward to the season. The Majors I know are very important to you.

The Masters isn’t too far away, early April.

TW: Yeah. The whole plan was to get my body, mind and spirit ready for that first full week in April. You know, I’ve done it four times and I’d love to do it a fifth.

PD: Great occasion The Masters I always think.

TW: It is the best.

PD: There are some new courses coming on stream. I think you’re involved in designing at least one of them aren’t you?

TW: Yes. I am going to be designing one here. A championship type venue. I am talking with them. How much of a championship venue do you want?

Something somewhat member friendly or do you want to actually design it so it’s basically like OakMont, OakMont Winged Foot and have it just tough.

Computer training for a cutting-edge world ...

Communication is a vital skill – and knowing your way around computer hardware and software to get your message across has never been more crucial.

That’s why Telford College of Arts and Technology now offers a wide range of Computing courses, from A Level-equivalent diplomas right up to Degree-level programmes. TCAT’s Foundation Degree in Computing, for example, is equivalent to the first two years of an honours degree. It is a practical, work-related course for those who want to increase or broaden their computing knowledge, and improve employment prospects. The course, delivered by TCAT in partnership with the University of Wolverhampton, can either be taken on a full-time basis over two years, or part-time over a three-year period.

Course leader Thelma Smith says: “In year one, we look at the analysis and design of computer systems, an introduction to programming, and research into how IT impacts on organisations.

“We also look at hardware specifications, comparing operating systems, and give students an introduction to spreadsheet database design.

“And in year two, topics include strategic planning for staff and hardware in an IT environment, systems and methods used to manage large projects, planning network infrastructure, and designing and developing interactive websites.”

TCAT also offers an HND/HNC in Computing and Systems Development, including specialist units covering commercial network design and implementation. The course gives students chance to explore Cisco’s Network Associate qualification (CCNA) for Network students, while software developers will study multimedia, 3D modelling and games design – giving them a solid foundation in the technical skills needed for their careers.

The TCAT prospectus also includes a level two diploma in Computing, Web Design, and Games, giving students hands-in experience across a number of different applications. To qualify for a place on this course, students need four relevant GCSE passes including English or Maths, or a level one diploma including Functional Skills.

Presented by Wellington Town Council, entertainment will include Poems and Pints with Tony Stringfellow, a Spectacular Comedy Night, an interactive and hands-on book-making Workshop, for all ages, with Jonathan Korejko and the return of the ever popular Lesley Smith as “Mary Queen of Scots”.

Classic Ratatouille Ingredients

2 Large Aubergine 4 Small Courgette 2 Red Or Yellow Pepper 4 Large Ripe Tomato 5 Tbsp Olive Oil Small Bunch Basil 1 Medium Onion, Peeled And Thinly Sliced 3 Garlic Clove, Peeled And Crushed 1 Tbsp Red Wine Vinegar 1 Tsp Sugar

Method

Step 1 - Cut the aubergines, peppers and tomatoes into bite sized chunks.

Step 2 -Heat a over medium heat and when hot, pour in 2 tbsp olive oil. Brown the aubergines for 5 mins on each side until the pieces are soft. Set them aside and fry the courgettes in another tbsp oil for 5 mins, until golden on both sides. Repeat with the peppers. Don’t overcook the vegetables at this stage, as they have some more cooking left in the next step.

SIMPLE CHOCOLATE

Mousse Ingredients

170g/6oz dark chocolate, roughly chopped 7 free-range egg whites ¼ tsp lemon juice 40g/1½oz caster sugar

Method

1. Melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of simmering water (do not allow the base of the bowl to touch the water).

2. Whisk the egg whites and lemon juice in a large, clean bowl until they form soft peaks.

3. Add the sugar and continue to whisk until firm peaks form when the whisk is removed. Do not over whisk.

4. Once the chocolate has melted, remove from the heat.

Whisk one-third of the egg whites into the hot chocolate quickly, until thick and well combined - if you add the egg whites in too slowly, you will end up with a lumpy mousse.

5. Fold the remaining egg whites into the chocolate mixture, using a spatula, until all of the egg white has been completely mixed into the chocolate. Don't overmix as you'll lose the air bubbles and the mousse will become too heavy.

6. Spoon the mousse mixture into four glasses and chill in the fridge for 2-3 hours, or until set.

Step 4 - Tear up the basil leaves and set aside. Cook the onion in the pan for 5 mins. Add the garlic and fry for a further min. Stir in the vinegar and sugar, then tip in the tomatoes and half the basil.

Return the vegetables to the pan with some salt and pepper and cook for 5 mins. Serve with basil.

Lemon Chicken

500g New Potato, Thinly Sliced 2 Tbsp Olive Oil 6-8 Chicken Thighs, Skin On 8 Shallots 100g Bacon - Chopped into small pieces 1 Lemon, Sliced Into Wedges 5 Sprigs of Oregano 300ml Chicken Stock

Step 1 - Heat the oven 220C/gas mark 7. Place the potato wedges into a large shallow roasting tin, drizzle with 1 tbsp of oil, season well and toss to coat. Roast for 20 mins until starting to crisp.

Step 2 - Season the chicken thighs and add to the roasting tin along with the shallots, bacon, lemon wedges and oregano.

Drizzle with the remaining oil, then return to the oven for 20 mins. Pour over the stock, and roast for a final 20 mins until the chicken is golden and cooked through.

MILLA JOVOVICH STARS IN ‘THE NIGHT THAT FLOWS’ - THE WORLD’S FIRST DRIVE THROUGH IMMERSIVE THEATRE EXPERIENCE UNIQUE PERFORMANCE STAGED TO CELEBRATE THE LAUNCH OF THE NEW TOYOTA C-HR

Actress and model Milla Jovovich starred alongside a cast of talented faces from across Europe, in the world’s first drive through immersive theatre experience.

The seven-scene interactive production - entitled ‘The Night That Flows’ - was staged within the immense space of The Printworks in London. The experience saw 100 guests immersed in the story of one amazing fictional night as it unfolded across five European cities, including Berlin, Milan, Paris, Barcelona and London.

The story, narrated throughout by Milla Jovovich, centred around guests finding their perfect flow and took inspiration from the ‘flowing’ design of the new Toyota C-HR - created to look like it is always moving, even when at a standstill.

Participants were thrust into the limelight as part of the event, taking centre-stage in the live multi-sensory performance and interacting with a variety of different characters as they made their way through the myriad of scenes.

Each scene brought with it unexpected twists and exciting scenarios, all inspired by key features of the car - from the dynamic drive and stylish diamond design, to the sophisticated interior and JBL concert hall sound system.

The journey began in Berlin, where guests were transported through the streets of the city in the C-HR using innovative projection footage captured at the Berlin International Festival of Light.

From Berlin, guests flowed seamlessly into Milan where they experienced their very own taste of a high fashion catwalk, complete with paparazzi. Following their catwalk moment, guests were led by Fabio Attanasio, Italian fashion designer and founder of ‘The Bespoke Dudes’, and Italian model Giorgia Palmas, into the backstage preparations of an Italian fashion show. Completely enclosed in a mirrored space, the C-HR became the star of the unique fashion show, revolving a full 360 degrees so that every angle of the car’s dynamic design and elegantly integrated detail was exposed.

Propelled into a Parisian casino, guests joined an excitable crowd gathered around a roulette table, as French croupier Etienne Pradier invited them to take part in a game of chance.

No sooner had they placed their bets on the roulette table, they were greeted by French rally driver Guerlain Chicherit, who led them in an exhilarating drive around a giant projected roulette table, showcasing the car’s driving dynamics, fluid motion and controlled responses.

Travelling through to the next city, Barcelona, guests were surrounded by a flash-mob style club scene, with Spanish DJ Cuartero leading the crowd as the soundtrack played out over the C-HR’s JBL sound system.

The event was created by a team comprised of some of the world’s finest theatrical and technical design talent, all brought together under The Department's Creative Directors Jonny Grant and Hamish Jenkinson, with Jessica Rees Middleton as Executive Producer.

Dental Disease in Small Animals:

the wisdom of checking your pet’s mouth

Examining the mouth can tell us a lot about the general health of our pets. As vets we routinely look in and around the mouth every time we examine an animal. The lips, gums, teeth, tongue, and the hard palate can all be quietly brewing some serious problems which may well be related to dental disease. All of these are places that are easily checked in amenable pets, and owners can and should look at them regularly (except in rodents). The most important thing for any of us as pet owners is to be able to safely and gently look in our pet’s mouths whenever we’re handling them. So don’t leave it until you’re concerned about a problem; get into the habit of routinely checking for anything which looks abnormal. The sooner we know about a dental or oral problem, the better. Most of the conditions which affect the mouth are painful and will therefore need swift investigation and treatment.

Smelly breath is not just a sign of old age, and should not be considered normal. The bad breath is just a symptom of a disease process which will progress if it is not dealt with. It is often due to dental disease, but may be due to a tumour in the mouth, a piece of foreign material stuck in the mouth, or ulceration due to a more generalised disease.

Gingivitis (inflamed gums, possibly bleeding), calculus, tooth root abscesses and ultimately tooth loss are all painful conditions, but often do not cause an animal to stop eating. In many instances these are chronic conditions which progress gradually, and so often they are not perceived to be significant factors in our pet’s general health. However, they are genuinely debilitating conditions which we certainly wouldn’t ignore in our own mouths, and we ought to learn to appreciate their significance in our pets. Some factors, such as breed, jaw conformation, tooth trauma and viral/bacterial

infection can predispose our pets to rapid or severe dental disease.

Poor and/or inappropriate diet is a major cause of dental disease in pet rabbits and guinea pigs, who actually only require simple low energy, high fibre food i.e. grass/hay (not concentrated, manufactured pellets). They need to spend long periods of time chewing; otherwise their teeth become too long and irregular in shape. Sharp spurs on the molar teeth dig into the cheeks and tongue, and the abnormally long teeth prevent normal chewing action.

The best advice we can give you is to check your pet’s mouth regularly (i.e. at least weekly, if not daily); look at all the teeth, open the mouth wide and look under the tongue and along the hard palate. Look for swellings, bleeding, plaque, foreign bodies etc. If you see anything abnormal, or which concerns you, get it checked by your vet. Prompt action is always best.

Please be aware that insurance policies will rarely cover the cost of dental treatment, unless it is for an acute condition which could not have been prevented by good care and attention. It is our responsibility to make the effort to maintain good dental hygiene wherever possible, and therefore minimise the need for veterinary dental treatment. Appropriate food, chews, toothpaste and mouth washes should all be considered part of a good dental care regimen. The vast majority of veterinary dental treatment requires general anaesthesia and so pets usually stay at the vets for the day to receive the care and attention they deserve.
