Editor’s Letter Issue 46 - November & December 2020 Edition With a very different kind of Christmas on the cards, bringing to an end a tough year for many, it is going to be a very unusual time. Even though it has been a difficult year for just about everyone, we can still take away some positives from it, from the Thursday evening clapping for our key workers, to volunteers who sprang into action to help the most vulnerable in our communities - it has highlighted the best, and unfortunately, some of the worst things about our society. The pandemic has impacted the more deprived areas of our community harder, and has widened the gap in health and wealth inequalities. At Telford & Wrekin Council we have worked extremely hard along with our Town & Parish Councils, and our partners, to support our residents. I am so proud to have been a part of that, but we are always looking do more and constantly looking to identify any other improvements that can be made. With Christmas in mind, it is more important than ever to try to shop local. We are so lucky to have some wonderful shops and businesses in the area, where we can find everything we could possibly need for a great festive period, locally sourced food and drink, home and garden services and presents galore - even for our pets.

There has always been a fantastic range of shops, not only in Shrewsbury town centre, but in our local towns like Broseley, Much Wenlock, Oswestry, Bridgnorth and Ellesmere. From topclass butchers offering the best pork pies or prime-cuts, to art and jewellery by local artists and fresh baked bread and cakes to flowers and literally everything else too! Shopping local doesn’t just support local businesses - it supports the local economy and helps to keep employment opportunities up. I think for me the main thing to take from a year like 2020, is the message that started off with the sad death of Caroline Flack, back at the beginning of the year - which was BE KIND. In a world where you can be anything, be kind. There are still tough times ahead, but if we work together and support each other through them, we will all help to make the world just a little bit better than it was. I really do hope that you manage to have a nice Christmas, and I am hopeful that 2021 will be a much better year for everyone - Stay Safe and Be Kind X

LOCAL NEWS Olly Murs is Coming to Telford Town Park in 2021! Telford & Wrekin Council are excited to announce that another huge name will be appearing in Telford Town Park in 2021. Orchard Live who are also bringing Sir Tom Jones to Telford on 27 June are pleased to be confirm that top entertainer Olly Murs will play the QEII Arena on June 26 next year as part of an extensive 25 date UK tour. This is news that will put a smile back on the face of many people during a difficult time. Olly Murs will perform some of his biggest hits, including tracks from his recently certified triple platinum album ‘Never Been Better’. Olly said: “To all my Telford fans, I’m so excited to come and perform for you at this beautiful location. See you there!” Olly recently captained England in this year's Soccer Aid, and is looking to retain his crown as winning judge on his third series of The Voice, which has currently been postponed at the semi-final stages. In lockdown, he also managed an impressive body transformation, working closely with personal trainer Rob Solly, and sharing his fitness routine exclusively with Men’s Health. He is also working on new music to be shared next year. The gig is promoted by leading Welsh promoter Orchard Live, whose Director, Pablo Janczur said: “Olly’s one of the UK’s biggest performers and will be a massively popular

attraction for Telford next summer when we can hopefully get back to seeing some great live music.” Cllr Shaun Davies, Leader of Telford & Wrekin Council said ‘We are delighted that working with our partner that another huge star is coming to Telford which will attract visitors from far and wide, bringing money into our town for local businesses. ‘We hope that this gives everyone something to look forward to during these difficult times. The show is many months away and hopefully the country will be in much more positive space where people will once again be able to enjoy outdoor entertainment with family and friends. LOCAL NEWS Coronavirus: Health leaders back ‘Step Up Shropshire’ campaign Shropshire’s health leaders are urging Shropshire residents to ‘Step Up’ in the fight against coronavirus and help avoid another lockdown. Last week saw the launch of ‘Step Up Shropshire’ – a new local public health campaign to encourage the county to play their part in minimising the spread of coronavirus and keep themselves and the community safe. The Shropshire public are already stepping up – by sharing these important messages on social media and spreading the word in our communities. Cases are continuing to rise within Shropshire and, to help reduce the county’s COVID-19 case rate, our local health leaders are reminding residents to protect themselves and others by continuing to wash their hands, cover their faces if in enclosed spaces, and practice social distancing. Dr Arne Rose, Medical Director at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH), said:“During the pandemic all our doctors, nurses and support staff have been moved by the outpouring of support for the NHS. “Although at the Princess Royal and Royal Shrewsbury hospitals we are not yet seeing the same rise in COVID-19 cases that some other hospitals are, we are again seeing patients who have tested positive for COVID-19, and the last thing we want is for the public to get complacent. “Here at the trust everyone is working very hard to continue looking after every patient that comes through our doors, but please help us by following the national guidance and staying safe. “We can all do our bit to help prevent the spread of infection – this includes social distancing, the wearing of face coverings in public areas, and frequent hand washing. This is vital not only to protect yourself, but also to protect family, friends and the public around you. “If you do show symptoms, you should get tested and must self-isolate immediately, to reduce your risk of spreading the virus.” Dr Julian Povey, Joint Chair of NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Groups, said: “As a GP, it’s vitally important that people do not dismiss symptoms of COVID-19, which include a fever, a persistent cough or a change in taste or smell as a common cold. “I am urging people to take this seriously and to follow the guidelines, to keep social distancing, wash your hands regularly and wear a face covering. We have seen the impact this virus has had on the health of all age groups, and you also do not want to be responsible for passing it on to your friends and loved ones. “If you do have coronavirus symptoms book yourself a test and isolate at home. Please do not come into a GP practice.”

Step Up and help us stop the spread of coronavirus: Work from home if you can Limit contact with other people Keep your distance from people not in your household bubble (2 metres apart where possible) Stick to a maximum group of 6 people when meeting socially – indoors or outdoors Wash your hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds If you are unable to wash hands and they are visibly clean, use hand sanitiser with at least 60% alcohol content Do not leave home if you or anyone in your household has symptoms Wear a face covering in indoor settings where social distancing may be difficult, and where you will meet people you do not normally meet. Anyone who has any symptoms should book a test and not leave home for at least 10 days. Those living in households should self-isolate for 14 days if they or any members of the household receive a positive test.

LOCAL NEWS A New Era for Shrewsbury Cathedral Shrewsbury Cathedral works together with local agency to find a new identity within the community. Nestled away along Shrewsbury’s historic Town Walls sits one of the smallest cathedrals in the country. Despite its size, Shrewsbury Cathedral is an imposing structure full of grandeur, and in recent years it has become one of the town’s greatest hidden gems. Working together with The Curious, the Cathedral has found a new identity that will help it enter a new age and make it part of the local community once more. Constructed in 1856, every corner of this historic building is adorned with beautiful details typical of a gothic cathedral. This includes a number of stunning stained glass windows that were produced in between the wars by Margaret Rope, a renowned stained glass artist who was born in Shrewsbury. With improved disabled access and the Orchard Café serving up tasty treats, this historic building is a sanctuary for locals and tourists alike. But despite its stunning architecture and the recent addition of the café, it was clear the Cathedral needed a new identity that would appeal more to the local community. “The Cathedral has recently been ticking along with no real push towards making it a prominent icon,” commented Richard Keddie, their Events & Development Officer. “We want it to be a place that unifies community and culture, welcoming people from all demographics. We knew that in order to garner more interest from visitors and new congregations, the Cathedral needed to create its own vibrant identity with a more welcoming aesthetic.” Over the past year, they have been working together with local branding agency, The Curious, who are known for creating exciting brands that stand out from the crowd.

Inspired by the stained glass windows and gothic details found throughout the Cathedral, their team has taken a sympathetic approach that combines bright colours and modern designs with these more traditional elements. “We now have a vibrant identity that symbolises the different unions taking place within these stone walls,” said Richard. “We were really excited by the final designs, and collaborating with The Curious has been a very easy and pleasant experience. LOCAL NEWS Shropshire Council urges people to respect the countryside in new campaign Shropshire Council is calling for visitors to the county’s beautiful countryside to be respectful so it can be protected for everyone to continue to enjoy. Throughout 2020 Shropshire’s countryside has been a lifeline to many, particularly during lockdown. While the majority of people treat it with respect, there are increasing instances of irresponsible behaviour which threatens to cause damage to the county’s green spaces. With more people choosing staycations and visiting the countryside more often, the number of us turning to Shropshire’s countryside for exercise and a break has increased greatly. For example, in July 2020, more than 35,000 people visited The Mere in Ellesmere. In the same month in 2019, the number was 20,000. To help protect Shropshire’s countryside, people are being urged to behave respectfully. The best way you can do this is by following local coronavirus rules and the Countryside Code. Lezley Picton, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for culture, leisure, waste and communications, said:

“We’re blessed in Shropshire to have such beautiful countryside on our doorstep, and it has been a real lifeline to residents of the county throughout 2020. “As such, it’s important that we all do our part to protect it, and the best way we can do this is by behaving respectfully. On the whole we’re pleased that people are, but there are instances of some shamelessly disrespecting the countryside, causing damage and concern for local communities.

“This is why we are launching this campaign to encourage everyone to be respectful when visiting the countryside, whether you’re a Shropshire resident or visitor to the county. I would urge anyone visiting rural Shropshire to check the Countryside Code, become familiar with local coronavirus rules and plan your visit. “Anyone wishing to help share the message can do so by sharing the graphics that we will make available shortly.”

Familiarising yourself with the Countryside Code will give you all the information you need to be able to behave respectfully when visiting rural locations. When visiting the countryside remember that there are local communities living in the are,a so make sure you don’t park in front of drives and gateways. Plan ahead to find the best places to park and check what facilities are open. Some public paths pass through private land and farmers’

fields, so make sure you leave gates and properties as you find them. Some gates are closed to protect any livestock that may be in the field. We all want to visit clean and tidy outdoor spaces so leave no trace of your visit, take all your litter home, and if you have your dog with you, remember to scoop the poop! Heather Kidd, local Shropshire Councillor for Chirbury and Worthen, said: “I am keen to share our beautiful area, but farmers’ livelihoods and local residents’ enjoyment is also important. Visitors to the countryside just need to be sensitive to country life and follow the Countryside Code.” Ruth Houghton, local Shropshire Councillor for Bishop’s Castle, said: “Our local economy relies on tourism and, as such, visitors are made to feel very welcome in our area, and we really hope that they enjoy our stunning countryside and outdoor activities. All we ask is that anyone visiting south Shropshire follows the Countryside Code and leaves it as they find it for others to enjoy.”

ironworks Climate Crisis Initiative - Call to Towns & Cities to Launch Climate Change Initiatives & Educational Ocean Trails Designed specifically to create further awareness and to better educate school children about the importance of protecting our oceans and marine life, the School’s Ocean Trail Project is now officially open to all local and regional schools in the Telford & Wrekin area. We have been working alongside Telford & Wrekin Council to develop this project since the beginning of the year and we are so excited for it to finally start! Every day, our ocean and marine life are exposed to a number of hardships, many of which are directly impacted by humanity and the way that we live our everyday lives. With eight million metric tons of plastic entering our ocean every year, 80% of marine pollution coming from land-based activity, and our coral reef on the brink of extinction, it really is time that we all step up to better protect our ocean. Whilst hundreds of ocean clean-up and protection initiatives exist across the world, we feel that education lies at the heart of it all. This project features 26 fish sculptures, which have each been primed and readied to be painted/decorated by school students. Each participating school will receive a fish, which they must paint/decorate using their chosen design. Once the project is completed and all decorated fish have been handed to the Telford & Wrekin Council, a sculpture trail will be created spanning across Telford Town Centre. The trail will then allow young people from all across the country to reflect upon the way we interact with our ocean, with every participating and non-participating school benefitting from the educational messages behind each fish design. Councillor Carolyn Healy, Telford & Wrekin Council cabinet member for Climate Change, said: “We are so excited about this new project in partnership with the British Ironwork Centre. This will be a great opportunity for school pupils across the borough to learn about the impact we are all having on our oceans. Even living this far from the sea, our actions still have an impact on marine life and those impacts will affect all of us. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the British Ironwork Centre for providing these fish to us for this project and can’t wait to see what the finish trail looks like next year.”

LET’S EAT. e classic Black Forest gateau, layers of chocolate sponge cake sandwiched with whipped cream and cherries, then decorated with lashings of whipped cream, cherries, and chocolate shavings... For the festive period, you can’t beat a classic cake and they don’t come any more classic than the Black Forest Gateau. For a special boozy twist, add some Amaretto cherries (link provided) which are simply divine, and easy to prepare...

Method... STEP 1

Heat the oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Grease and line the base of 3 x 20cm cake tins. Boil the kettle. Put the butter and 75g chocolate broken into chunks in a small pan and gently heat, stirring, until melted. STEP 2

Next combine the flour, sugar, cocoa and bicarbonate of soda with a pinch of salt in a large bowl. Whisk the eggs and yogurt together. Add the melted chocolate mixture and egg mixture to the dry ingredients, along with 100ml of boiling water and mix together with an electric whisk until it is lump free. STEP 3

Divide the mixture between the tins and bake for 25 minutes. To test they're done, push in a fork and check that it comes out clean.

THE INGREDIENTS Makes enough for 6-8 175g salted butter, plus extra for greasing 2 x 200g bar dark chocolate 300g plain flour 375g golden caster sugar 25g cocoa 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda 2 medium eggs 200g natural yoghurt To assemble 425g tinned pitted cherries - drained but reserve the juice for using later 100g morello cherry jam 4 tbsp kirsch - clear, colorless brandy traditionally made from double distillation of morello cherries 500ml double cream 3 tbsp icing sugar 1 small punnet fresh cherries (for a special boozy treat try soaking cherries in Amaretto - see below)

STEP 4

Prick the cakes a few times with the fork. Mix together the 2 tbsp of the reserved cherry juice and the kirsch and drizzle over the cakes. Cool the cakes. STEP 5

Mix together the remaining drained cherries and jam. Tip 200ml of the cream into a small pan and heat until just below simmering point. Chop the remaining chocolate and put in a heatproof bowl, pour over the hot cream and stir until melted. Set aside until it is spreadable. STEP 6

When the cakes are cool whisk the remaining cream and the icing sugar together until softly whipped. Spread over two of the cakes, then spoon over the jammy cherries. Stack the cakes together. Spread the chocolate cream over the third cake and sit on top of the other cakes. Pile the fresh cherries in and around the cake and serve. Add chocolate shavings to the top and around the sides of the cake to ďŹ nish.

love with tradition? Lockdown has forced people to hit the reset button in more ways than one. Everything from family meals, holidays, trips to the high street, and outings to the cinema have been impacted by the pandemic. Consumer behaviours have changed, with more people eating at home, sitting in front of the TV, and opting for the ‘staycation’ as this year’s holiday choice. Has the pandemic we’re experiencing made the UK fall back in love with tradition when it comes to our eating and drinking habits, going on holiday, and even how businesses are reaching consumers through advertising?

HOME COOKING IS ON THE MENU... During lockdown, our eating and drinking habits changed. The temporary closure of restaurants on 20 March meant that we all had to eat at home without the luxury of being able to say, “Shall we go out for food?”. But the limitations didn’t stop people tapping into their creative side. The demand for flour—to bake bread and cakes with – was so high that supermarket shelves suffered shortages throughout April and May. Furthermore, even though restaurants have been allowed to reopen and have been supported by the government’s ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme, consumers appear to be more comfortable eating at home. A recent research study by Bain & Company showed that 60% of respondents cooked at home before the pandemic. This figure rose to 72% during lockdown. Restaurant demand sits at just 3% now, despite the ability to go out for food now. The latest release of the EY Future Consumer Index also shows that most UK consumers are still uncomfortable with eating out. A poll of more than 1,000 UK consumers showed that only 27% of respondents were comfortable with dining in a restaurant. Some of the key factors behind the hesitation appear to be hygiene and spending concerns, with many people reducing their monthly outgoings as much as possible.

STAYCATION Here for good?... Not only has the global pandemic seen a shift towards home cooking, but it’s also seen the emergence of the ‘staycation’. Fuelled originally by the inability to travel abroad, the appetite for people in the UK to visit other parts of the country for a holiday hasn’t weakened, despite the introduction of travel corridors. The change in behaviour has presented business owners in the UK travel industry with a unique opportunity to offer their accommodation to people who would never usually consider staying on home soil. A luxury lodge park in South Lakeland is an example of this, with Doe Wood Lodges having planning permission approved for a further 50 caravan pitches on site. Many believe the staycation boom will be here to stay, with farmers across the country ramping up plans to get in on the action. From camping and glamping to cottages and lodges, the desire to stay somewhere safe and secluded is high. It’s understandable too, with the UK’s travel corridor list-making new headlines every day.

OPPORTUNITY by Gary Peeling, CEO at UK commercial print company: Where The Trade Buys, currently producing PPE for UK education spaces, workplaces, hospitality venues, retail stores, charity shops, the NHS and more. The company has also been involved in manufacturing face visors for NHS essential workers in the fight against Covid-19.

For traditioal advertising... Lockdown also had a profound impact on traditional advertising spend in the UK. With the public told to stay at home and high streets empty, advertisers saw the need to reduce their budget for TV, newspapers and magazines, radio and cinema. The results of which saw a 48% decline in advertising spend over lockdown, with an overall reduction of approximately £1.1 billion. It’s little surprise to see that the government was the biggest spender on advertising during the lockdown. Messages for social distancing and staying at home dominated every advertising channel. Public Health England spent £44 million in total—a 5,000% year-on-year increase. The reduction in traditional advertising has seen a new-found focus for companies to implement digital strategies. Both paid search and paid social are seen as ways to capitalise on the fact people are on the internet and their phones more often. But with ever-growing saturation in the market and Google’s recent decision to pass on their 2% digital tax to advertisers, the opportunity to cut through the digital noise with printing materials presents itself. If you’ve been inside a pub or restaurant recently, you will have seen effective examples of pull up banners to inform customers about COVID-19 measures. They often include information for how to order food and drink on apps too. Also, the signs put up in front windows in support of the NHS, including artistic murals plastered on walls and billboards, means physical signage like flyers and posters may well be used for much more than social distancing and hygiene messaging over the next year or so. Choosing your tree – quality Healthy trees will have a shiny, glossy green coating on the needles which feels slightly waxy to touch. First things first, decide what style to go for. At Dobbies, there are two main types, Nordmann Fir and Fraser Fir - both available as cut or pot grown. Each year, Christmas trees seem to go up earlier and earlier, but to keep your tree looking its best through to the 25th, the best time to buy is the first or second weekend of December. HOW TO keep your real tree looking it’s best

Treat your tree with TLC. Leave it to stand for 24-hours before decorating. Opt for a stand with a water reservoir to prevent your tree from drying out. Next thing to consider, making sure your real tree gets enough water - Your tree will need approximately 1-2 litres a day, depending on the temperature of the room. Don’tplace it next to radiators. If you find that your tree is too wide for the space you planned it for, you can clip some of the larger branches lower down to make it fit. There have been reports of children and teenagers whose reality and perception of themselves has been distorted through Snapchat filters, which changes their physical appearance. This combined with viewing what their friends are up to is causing youngsters to feel unhappy about their lives. The good news, however, is that research is covering the effects and we can start to combat them through awareness and compassion. Some young people are even starting to notice the harmful effects of social media. A survey carried out in 2017 by the Royal Society for Public Health found that British 14–24-yearolds agree that their wellbeing is being damaged by social media. Platforms including Snapchat, Twitter, and Instagram invoke anxiety, depression, and sleep deprivation. Snapchat was cited in particular for making young people feel negatively, creating feelings of worry over feeling left out. With the digital world constantly advancing, there will be no slowing down in terms of how integrated our lives are with technology. With careers advancing and software evolving constantly, technology is certainly a force to be reckoned with. But how do we help our children to lead happy and fulfilling lives and learn when to put their phones down?

TEENAGE Clicks... Likes, views, followers, infinite posts, notifications, messages—social media has been designed to be addictive and consuming. This is certainly illustrated in Netflix’s new documentary, The Social Dilemma. To keep up with the contemporary and everchanging world, there is growing research looking into the use of social media and how they impact us. According to Addiction Center, teenage users become addicted to social networking sites and engage in excessive or compulsive use, displaying signs of addictive behaviour such as mood modification, withdrawal symptoms, salience, and becoming panicked or upset if they’re denied constant access. This has been linked to other problems including stress, depression, reduced achievement in school, less curiosity, and a lack of sleep. According to Nicola Kalk, a researcher at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Neuroscience at King's College London, said: “Smartphones are here to stay and there is a need to understand the prevalence of problematic smartphone usage.”

Young Wellbeing... Saturday 10th October was World Mental Health Day. It arrived during the strangest time we’ll ever likely face in our lives due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Each year’s theme is set by the World Federation for Mental Health, and this year’s was 'mental health for all'. is encouraged us to think of different demographics and communities of people and how they are faced with issues and problems in their lives. There have been multiple reports over the years of rising levels of anxiety and depression in teenagers and children. What social media and COVID-19 have in common is how rapidly they spread, with a dangerous impact for humanity ranging from rising depression levels to polarisation and even loss of life. Increases in depression and suicide appeared among teens when social media exploded in popularity and became the norm. Youngsters are facing more pressures at school and in their personal lives. They are worried about money problems, using more alcohol and drugs, and are exposed to social media constantly. Of course, not all technology is bad. Here, we’ll look at the impact social media has on our young ones, and how technology can be used to remedy the effects.

A GUIDE TO HELPING CHILDREN OFF SOCIAL MEDIA Of course, nobody wants to take their children’s phones away—that would cause a lot of arguments and tantrums. Here’s a guide to what you can do.

Be informed. Make sure you’re aware what social media your child is using so you can understand what sort of content they are viewing. They are more likely to heed your advice if you know what you’re talking about.

Make sure they’re aware. Encourage your child to think critically about social media and to understand that their friends are only posting the highlights of their life. Nobody posts about their low points—make sure they’re aware that social media isn’t an accurate representation of reality.

Minimise face time and encourage hobbies and activities. Research discussed previously found that children’s curiosity and interest to learn new things drops after spending even a small amount of time on social media. Try to set a limit of how much they can use this technology and encourage them to step away and take up a hobby or learn something new. Try to keep their minds stimulated.

Acknowledge their feelings and encourage dialogue. As stated, children experience more stress than they once did—exams, friends, school commitments, personal worries. These can be overwhelming when younger and sometimes it’s easier for them to cope by shutting off and scrolling through social media to detach and escape. Encourage dialogue and let your child know that they should be open about how they’re feeling and that they can trust you for emotional support and comfort free from judgement and scolding.

WALK your way to a healthy heart... Not only is regular physical activity good for our heart health, but it can also alleviate stress. It is recommended that adults get 150 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity each week, such as brisk walking. When we feel stressed, we may tell ourselves we are too busy to exercise. However, physical activity does not have to be a time-consuming chore. Incorporating small changes to increase our daily steps can improve our overall mental and physical health. You could start by making small changes, such as parking at the furthest point away from the shop entrance in the car park, getting off the bus a stop early, or leaving your office during your lunch break to take a walk.

BREATHING and meditation... Just breathe. Despite the growing attention that meditation and breathing exercises is getting, it is still one of the most underrated things you can do to ease your stress levels and lower your blood pressure. To do this all you need is 10 minutes of your day to sit and do absolutely nothing but concentrate on your breathing. Meditation is one of the simplest and cheapest ways of reducing your stress levels and blood pressure, and there are many free guided meditation resources online to teach you how to do it.

There are many things that can lead to us feeling stressed. It can come from the news, our jobs, financial insecurity, health issues and personal problems. Feeling constantly stressed and overwhelmed can lead to a rise in blood pressure and resting heart rate, both of which increase our risk of having a heart attack. We have some tips to help you avoid unnecessary stress and deal with existing stress in a healthy way.

What is stress? Stress is essentially when we feel threatened or under pressure and our bodies are preparing to either fight or run away from our current situation. This so-called ‘fight or flight’ response should only occur on rare occasions and it is useful for getting us out of dangerous situations. For many people stress can be more long term and persistent and this can have a negative impact on our mental and physical health.

Avoid consuming too much news Whilst it may be important for us to stay up to date with current affairs, a constant stream of negative news reports can be a source of stress and anxiety. The World Health Organization recommends that we watch, read or listen to the news to just once or twice a day for short periods. Why not schedule a daily timeslot when you will allow yourself to check the news (e.g. 7:00 pm – 7:30 pm).

ASK for help... Sometimes stress can feel overwhelming and you may need a little help to manage it. Try speaking to a friend, family member or a work colleague about how you feel. With Jenna’s help, Flawless can reveal how to adapt our workouts for each body type, as well as love the skin we’re in! ... "Our bodies come in all different shapes and sizes, and it’s important to understand our own individual type in order to highlight our best bits. Remember that the purpose of exercise is to burn fat and build muscle. Exercising will enhance your body shape and, in some way, change its appearance, but it’s possible your body shape won’t change. Listed below are my recommended exercises for each body type, to enhance those curves and fall in love with your body once more. 1. RECTANGLE (A.K.A. BANANA) A rectangle is a straight up and down body type where your measurements are usually the same in all areas. Women with this body type often strive to create curves that don’t naturally occur. The Best Exercises: “To enhance and create curves, dedicate particular days of exercise to the specific body parts you want to enhance. For example, to build a booty you need to focus on building muscle through Glute exercises such as squats. When muscle needs to be created, weighted exercises such as deadlifts and weighted lunges will help you build those areas quicker.” 2. TRIANGLE (A.K.A. PEAR) Triangle is one of the most common body types, your shoulders and bust are narrower than your hips and you tend to have slim arms. The Best Exercises: “To begin with, focus on fat burn around the stubborn areas - this can be achieved through HIIT-style workouts which keep you in the fat burning zone the longest. Keep each workout varied and focused on exercising the whole body evenly. And don’t forget those beautiful arms! They’re already slim so perfect to get toned up quickly and look good in those sleeveless dresses.”

3. INVERTED Triangle (a.k.a. Apple)

If your shoulders and bust are larger than your relatively narrow hips, you have what’s known as an inverted triangle and are often seen as 'top heavy'. The Best Exercises: “Posture is key in enhancing this body type. Try pairing up chest and back day to provide strength in these areas and help to elevate your posture. My favourite chest exercise has to be pressups, and lateral pulldown and hyper back extension are great for the back.”

4. DIAMOND Broad hips/waist - narrow shoulders/bust If you have broader hips than shoulders, a narrow bust, and a fuller waistline, you have what’s called a diamond body shape. With this, you may carry a little more weight in your upper legs. The Best Exercises: “Start by defining your legs running and uphill walking will help create that definition. This body type also often has a naturally flat stomach so HIIT training works well to maximise fat-burn in this area and show off your best features. My favourite stomach burners have to be bicycles and lying leg raises.”

5.HOURGLASS Buttocks & Bust even, defined waist... Often the most desired body type, your buttocks and bust are well-balanced, and the waist is also defined. Your body is generally in proportion throughout.

6. ATHLETIC Straight up and down... If you’re naturally muscular but not particularly curvy, you have an athletic body type - your shoulder and hip measurements are about the same. Your waist is narrower than your shoulder and hips, but it isn’t overly defined and looks more straight up and down. The Best Exercises: “This body type is perfect for weight training and muscle definition can easily be achieved to create curves in all the right places. Weighted Squats and Deadlifts compound exercises will help build the lower body curves and supersets on the biceps and triceps (bicep curls and tricep pull-downs) will provide arms envied by many.” To conclude, Jenna says: "It’s important to remember with any body type, cardio and fat-burning activities will always help enhance your figure and get your body type looking its best. For sure, one brand will never need - er - rebranding. e name Jeep when attached to a Jeep will ever mean Jeep and never another name. Even though Jeep is now owned by Fiat, this is no spaghetti western. e best other motor manufacturing rustlers can do is to try hard to rope a good copy of the original. But guess what. If it has horns, if it 'moos' and treks up to the rail head in company with scores of other dust raisers, you can be certain you're talking about a longhorn cow. In the same way if a car looks like a hunk of beefsteak, packed with plenty protein and with toughness stamped indelibly over every part and stands on four road wheels, with accessories including a horn and most importantly a Jeep badge - guess what: it's what you think it is. So when I caught my neighbour Roderick Rawhide (A Western re-enactor of considerable standing and one time Captain of The Arizona Rangers) peering over the picket fence with an inquisitive look on his face I followed his gaze and my eyes alighted on the gleaming new Jeep Wrangler Overland that graced my driveway. "Howdy neighbour" I said cheerily. "How's it goin'?" He blinked, cleared his throat and in a tentative Texan drawl, asked the question "That's a Jeep isn't it?" I looked at him; I looked at the Jeep once more just to confirm the fact and then said "Sure is, my fine buckaroo." He remained pensively stroking his chin. "A Jeep eh?" He said. "They don't come cheap. If I'd picked up the right scratch card I'd 'ave one of them." His interest awakened my charitable impulses. “Come on over and take a looksee" I said. The Jeep in question was a new Wrangler Overland Multi Jet 200bhp 4x4 4 door. Wranglers come as 2 door or 4 door - and are the toughest of the Jeep models, built on hugely substantial chassis with solid front and rear axles and locking diffs. They are mega strong and make some of the offerings from rival makers seem delicate. An angular body, with door hinges on the outside and carrying design cues like the seven slat grille and oversize wings, remind you of the heritage: Jeeps served from Omaha beach to Okinawa. Rugged as General Paton, history just screams out from a Wrangler - reminding you of the ones those GIs drove way back in wartime but it's almost twice the size. It's big - very big - and commands respect from other road users. Flabby-gutted lager louts dreaming that they're Steve McQueen on the town are simply blown away. Powered by a splendid 200bhp 4 cylinder 2.2 diesel driving through an eight speed auto. box and transfer case with low off-road gears, it even has a proper double gear stick arrangement for putting it into low range. It's well set to tackle more than you will probably ever be able to throw at it. We're talking here of the 'King of the off-road'. And on-road too it's a joy to drive. You just settle to a more relaxed and unhurried pace by letting the auto box do all the work for you. Ride and handling are good for the size and you have a surprisingly relaxing motorway cruiser. Should you wish, you can take it to 112mph. Never once did it feel stressed or stressful on any journey. You might think that such a heavyweight would guzzle fuel. You'd be wrong. If ever a manufacturer was accurate in their claims, this is it. A claimed 37 mpg was precisely what was achieved over a week of road use. My neighbour asked to sit in the driver's seat. "Shucks! It's much more comfy than I thought it would be. I can

just see myself in one of these. It must cost a packet." he said "A vehicle like this looks a million dollars as you would expect from such a legendary manufacturer" I replied. "And at ÂŁ48,365, it's more than a corner shop scratch card - but that's not surprising. Frankly, in an ever changing world I have a penchant for the traditional - and you can't get more traditional than Jeep - a manufacturers label that resonates most evocatively even in these post modern times." I could tell that I had lost him with that last remark. To make amends I offered to give him a run in the passenger seat to prove that the Wrangler Overland can ride the rugged trail with the best of them whilst at the same time ooze the charisma of the trailblazing hero. I started up and messages of untapped reserves of power suggested a stimulating overture to a satisfying driving experience. We pulled smoothly out of the drive and headed down the Cul-De-Sac trail the right way - out to that evocative frontier of urban roads and

convenience stores. My passenger declared he felt like a king. I smiled, remarking that behind the wheel of a Wrangler Overland one is, indeed, also 'King of the metalled highway'. No-one dare challenge you as the message is unequivocally clear: 'I don't boast, but I'm the best'. You sit up high with a wide view and that unflappable feeling one gets when everything is in place is absolutely confidence inspiring - from the safe and secure handling to the convenient ergonomics of this trailblazer. It seems to have captured something that rivals lack. And with space and all the creature comfort and safety features you'll ever need - and walloping performance too it stands alone. You can even remove the Freedom Roof, take off the doors and fold the windscreen flat should you wish to enjoy the California sunshine and you are still protected should the worst happen, by a massive rollover bar. LOCAL NEWS Coronavirus: Marches Growth Hub helps thousands of businesses during lockdown Thousands of businesses have been given vital help during the coronavirus crisis by the Marches Growth Hub, new figures show. The hub – the expert one-stop business advice and support service for Shropshire, Herefordshire and Telford & Wrekin – handled a huge rise in enquiries from worried companies and business people during the lockdown. Its three bases in Shrewsbury, Hereford and Telford were at the forefront of the drive to keep businesses informed about the fast-changing situation throughout the spring and early summer and help them survive the crisis. New figures released today by the hub covering April to July 2020 reveal: Staff dealt with nearly 5,000 telephone calls asking for advice Hub staff received more than 9,500 emails from businesses The hubs have supported nearly 90 virtual events to help business recover from the crisis More than 1,600 took advantage of the hub’s virtual events More than 450 calls were also received by the Business Support Helpline. Yasmin Sulaman, Marches Growth Hub Business Support Lead, said the figures reflected the hub’s position as the region’s foremost business support service. “These figures are a testament to the incredibly hard work off all our business support staff during a very difficult period.

“They show that the growth hub – whether in virtual form or through our three physical bases – is a valued and trusted point of contact for all types of business looking for help and support.

“The number of phone enquiries shows a huge increase on previous years, enquiries to the virtual hub are also up on the same period last year,and despite the restrictions we have been able to stage a comparable number of events to help the business community, albeit virtually.

“Our satisfaction surveys also showed that businesses across the region were very impressed with the way we dealt with their inquiries and the help we were able to offer.” The Marches Growth Hub brings together all national and local business support in one place for the first time and is fully aligned to the Government’s ‘Business is GREAT’ campaign. Children needing adoption should be able to find a long-term solution more quickly, thanks to an innovative project.

LOCAL NEWS New collaboration helps children find long-term stability... Children needing adoption should be able to find a long-term solution more quickly, thanks to an innovative project. Telford & Wrekin is joining forces with Shropshire Council, Staffordshire County Council and Stoke-on-Trent City Council to create the Together4Children adoption agency.

The initial partnership will be for two years, with the option for a further three until September 2025. The Partnership’s aim is to progress to long-term fostering and guardianship.

Backed by the Department for Education, which has invested more than £600,000 in developing the project, Together4Children will focus on achieving permanent placements for adoption faster than before.

At present, the four authorities have 35 children in need of adoption.

Previously there could be a situation where a single authority had older siblings who didn’t want to separate and parents looking for a single baby, or children with a specific cultural background and no prospective parents available – so children stayed in short term placements and the adults were frustrated. Now, the four authorities will share information on children and the prospective parents available to increase the opportunities of keeping family groups together, finding loving homes for older children, and those who have other specific needs. The Together4Children partnership, which launched this week (28th Sept) is one of the first of its type in the country and builds on central government’s goal of creating regional adoption services by joining forces to improve services for all children who need long-term and permanent care. The four authorities will maintain current levels of investment in the service that fall within the partnership arrangements and each council will retain responsibility for children from its area.

Cllr Shirley Reynolds, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet member for Children, Young People, Education and Lifelong Learning, said “The new partnership between the four authorities will help us match children and the right carers more quickly, providing greater stability for children and offering more support for parents.” “Increasing the number and diversity of potential families across the region widens the choice of potential adopters, which helps us achieve the best outcomes for children by helping to keep siblings together, find loving homes for older children, and for children who have other specific needs.” “The great thing about this partnership is that it increases children’s chances of finding long-term stability faster than before and we know that children who are more settled get a better start in life: their health and wellbeing, academic performance and long-term employment prospects are all improved.” “Not only do we support our children in finding long-term stability, but this partnership allows us to invest in our carers too, so they feel better trained and able to provide the loving homes these youngsters need.”
